Human nature is killing WoW, people interested have been there done that. It doesn't make WoW bad or in a position of failng to thrive. And I don't know if the saying "everything old is new again" applies to game expansions. Right now, I don't feel I can go back.

So which race and class will you jump into PvP with?
General Discussion « Guild Wars 2 8/14/12 3:08:41 PM
Under two weeks - maybe making two characters. I cant decide! Norn Necromancer and Human or Sylvari Elementalist. Sylvari Necro? Norn Ele? Oh but then the Thief, and oh man! The Guardian - totally an unexpected rockin interesting class, Ack! I don't know, I don't know. Cannot succumb to Alt-itus this time. *goes off to blather at desk about no time, too many (good) choices, responsibilities... damn Anet, ok ok, I take it back* |

GW2 looks to harshly crack down on gold sellers.

I think this will help the economy settle more naturally, than it would otherwise. By affecting this critical point in launch they are handicapping RMT, while the rest of us settle in and acquire wealth through in-game mechanisms.

Had to retrain myself to use WASD as a left handed (mouse) gamer, for years (pre-Daggerfall) I used arrow keys. Was a terrible Melee in AoC. Tera was basically unplayable for me with arrow keys. I had to adapt. Really just since TSW have I gotten it down. Still unintentionally press ~, F, R, E, or CAPS LO...ck when playing. :( It was a challenge and I hated it, feeling awkward, which led to being frustrated, and soon after to /camp. Like any habit though, you can break it and change it. Just push through the hard times, your mind will get over it. I feel pretty good in GW2 now. |

Music is an aspiring, powerful, fierce, reflective, majestic, loving instrument of creation. We all have ears - yet our experience is distinctive. Jeremy Soule knows emotion in music. He stays true to his core of music - telling "your" adventure. One thing I note from personal experience is that I know when I am listening to Jeremy Soule. Like I know when I am listening to Inon Zur, Hans Zimmer, or John Williams. Same for some classical too, Mozart most of the time, Bach, Bruckner... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxwCsV2nzTw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rizoXniHsmo Not trying to say that it "tastes like chicken", but perhaps akin to an English cut and a Porterhouse steak. Their personality makes itself known. It seeps and pours through the tones. Inon does this as well as Jeremy. Listen to Crysis 2 and then put on some Baldur’s Gate 2, Tera, or Icewind Dale II. |

I am watching for Class 4 - http://undeadlabs.com/
Class 3 (code name only) is going to be their "test bed" so to speak on smaller scale, for Xbox/PC. Class 4 will be MMO. |

One thing I didn't like, and perhaps it was just beta related? Even when out of range it would let me use the skill. Putting it on cool down. Skill would fire I would see "out of range" and then 19, 18, 17... ugh. Could have been lag too I guess? I saw red/white on icons today for things in and out of range. Would really prefer the icons dim when out of range instead, as other games have done. Tera's range feedback system was nice, if a bit immersion breaking. |

Camera delay swing, momentum and performance

Originally posted by Meowhead I agree Meowhead, my brother has this problem with a lot of games. Hopeful to see what approach Arena takes. I personally feel it is a result of adding jump to their GW1 engine... .. . half joke half serious. ;) |

I do hope the camera motion, zoom and its weird "floaty-ness" has been changed. Along with the motion sickness inducing map zoom when you press M. Other than that I am ok with UI and playabilty. Might be a tough call for me if camera isn't normalized like every other AAA game. :( Haven't noticed anything that bothers me game engine performace wise... |

Originally posted by Sorrow You're gonna have to cite your source here - far as I know TSW was always one server, not one faction per server. I also don't know how having a character of each faction on the same server breaks anything... so might ellaborate that opinion as well. unless uh err you are trolling? Might have to call that out too, some of us haven't had our cuppa joe yet. :) EDIT: Ok found this it was under consideration. :) http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/404/feature/5606/Faction-Pride.html |

On Arcadia - it seems (feels) time related. Yes - through the morning hours (pacific time) I see a lot of red, afterwards I see lots of blue. Dragons, well aren't dragons reclusive by nature? :) Those greenies come out of nowhere and strike the whole map from time to time. It's a weird and interesting dynamic. I think 3 faction is working as intended. I would like to see more areas like Fusang, but that might dillute things. Maybe a zone that goes across dimensions? I also like the quest based objectives, I never see one red and one blue standing next to each other recapping a well... how stupid of a game mechanic would that be? And I don't know if I agree with the "zerg" comments, blues and green do it, so what is the difference? Reds have no monopoly on zerging. If there are 50 lumies running around, they are not coordinated in packs of 10. They zerg with stragglers here and there. Just like everyone else. |

A handful of good skills in an ocean of meh skills
General Discussion « The Secret World 7/19/12 3:07:35 PM
Some people's fat is another person's Bacon! :) I think people frankly dismiss the complexity. They say - "hey this sounds like that or hey this does more damage for no reason, and it even costs less points to unlock... well thats just dumb" Using Corrupted status on vampires - just for one example, makes a big difference. There are a lot of mobs that seem harder because folks miss what they can do. In game chat, someone was complaining how come a tier one skill did more damage than a tier two. They didn't recognize the tier one has no trigger or subtype. So maybe bigger bang but no bells or whistles. I won't argue that there may be some redundancy in the wheel - but I also think it's intentional to a point, and not for lack of vision. Such as there being multiple ways to get Crit Rating buff. Having 500+ abilities lessens redundancy impact. We also have no idea what AA paths Ragnar is thinking of, and I believe they are thinking of them. I like being able to consider different approachs using the same character, do I go strike, chain, or burst? Do I want affliction or hindered? What can be boosted by using any one of those? Can I go cookie cutter? Sure, but is it necessary or fun in this system? I don't think so. With the number of skills as time goes by I hope to see more interesting attempts by players. Instead of generally spamming Escalation or Bamboo Cutter because those "work". Think outside the skill tree a bit and explore the wheel. |

Is the game too short or are your expectations short of what the developer intended? I am just now getting into Blue Mountain. TSW doesn't want you to see everything from a Jet airliner, take a walk, get lost, execute some Wendigos. Play the game don't beat it. Not trying to puff up and defend TSW per say. The game is genuinely good - take your time if you haven't blown through everything yet. How long will it be good? I guess that is what is happening, not long enough for some players. ugh... I am not saying anything different around here. Two sides of the fence, some sit on it and the rest talk about our grass as though we don't know what makes it greener... fertilizer.

Increasingly wary of this game due to its community
General Discussion « The Secret World 7/11/12 5:41:23 PM
I wouldn't worry about the posters on MMORPG, a couple weeks and things will die down, and oh yeah GW2 will come out and they will pounce on it because bashing a new MMO for being a letdown is much much much more fun than playing something you like. :) No negative ingame experiences - some folks earned a /ignore definitely but I think that comes with the territory. Dungeons have been amiable, most people are in the learning process. Some occasional RTFM (I.E. read the mission or check google) responses, which I disagree with. Not in purpose but in tone. Afterall what is the point of having a Help channel if you get scolded for using it? Templar chat heats up and cools off now and then, nothing that makes me too nuts, except the random spoiler in chat! Damn them! Always F*ing up my play experience.. Damnit! I hope they get their face chewed off by a heroin addicted zombie on Elm st.! Bastards! Anyhow, nah I wouldn't worry about the MMORPG.com community in TSW.

Is TSW's questing the best for a MMO to date?
General Discussion « The Secret World 7/11/12 5:25:12 PM
Secret World may or may not be the best questing MMO to date. I will say questing in The Secret World stands on its own. It is and is not like other MMO titles. Many of the quests are well thought, have depth, interest, and feel compelling. The NPC’s have character to them. Consider Andy, John Wolf, Sheriff Bannerman or the Black House. What happens if you go out on a date and you start secretly comparing this date to your ex? First, I believe you will sabotage your experience and the outcome for better or worse. Let alone if they discover you are doing it. Second, you won’t really give this date an even chance (unless of course they are some closet psycho going on about loving to eat peanut butter with chicken liver.) Third, I… I don’t really know where the chicken liver thing came from but, digressing. I know it is easy to do, but does everything have to be compared to everything else for you to simply enjoy it? Like it or don’t, why does it have to be better or worse? |

I think people are cursed with endgamitis. Yes - cursed or infected. Just login and play a game you like, and when you stop liking it. Stop playing. What about the journey over destination? Do you dully sit all the way through a movie just to watch the end credits and listen to the tertiary soundtrack? Asking about the endgame before playing, dismisses any heart the developers put into something for however many years they worked on it. I can see where maybe you don't want to spend 100+ hours to have it come to an end, but everything ends. Or maybe people just want a reason to play devil's advocate? Oh that game don't play that game, it sucks. That store it sucks, that movie - sucks. Your car - sucks I don't know about end game in TSW - if it's same, better, or even worse than any other MMO that is fine to me. I am in it for the path, not the fabled pot of gold under a unicorn rainbow. I do know getting all of your decks will initially take a lot of time, and speed up as you complete due to associations between them. The few people who can say they finished everything in a MMO will be the few. Consider that recent stat on new Hitman game, they (developer) only expect 20% of purchases to even complete it. That is pretty sad. :p
