Beat that!

That isn't bad at all. In Ether Saga Online your second job change quest requires you to kill a total of 1000 mobs. The bad thing is, they are all different types so you have to travel around all over finding them and killing.

Worst quests ever though have to be the Epic 1.0 quests in EQ. Hours/Days/Weeks of camping certain mobs for the chance for it to spawn, drop your item. Raids where you had to wait forever to get them. People ninja looting. Just an overall terrible line of quests.

It makes me laugh that people get their panties in such a bind about free to play games. 9 of 10 games that claim they are free to play are indeed free to play. There is nothing that forces you to buy anything out of the cash shop for real money. Most of the items are able to be traded which makes for a game that is completely 100% free to play for the person who wants to put the time into the game to get the gold to buy the cash shop items.

With all of the trash AAA games out now F2P gives me the ability to plink around trying to find a game that suits me. Heck, I even consider Eve Online F2P now as I make more than enough isk per week ( I can make enough in a day if I play long enough) from missions to buy PLEX or a 60 day GTC.

F2P will be the saving grace for MMO's.

What are the official minimum specs for running the game?  I see many people with issues getting the game to run and the common response on the forums is that their system is too low or they have too little memory etc.

These are the only ones I could find:

http://www.mortalonline.com/news/july-13-07-09

https://account.mortalonline.com/content.php?name=information

Minimum configuration (1024x768, detail reduced)

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz or equivalent
RAM: 1GB
Video card: ATI Radeon 9800/nVidia GeForce 6600
Video memory 256MB
Hard drive space: 5-25GB

Recommended configuration (1680x1050)

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or equivalent
RAM: 2048MB Dual Channel DDR2
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT or equivalent
Video memory: 512MB
Hard drive space: 30GB

Can this game really run with 1 GB of RAm and a GeForce 6600?  Is that even possible?

Is it realistic that 2GB RAM is Recommended?  That seems very low to me...

Have the specs changed since this was posted?  If so can anyone link?  I find it odd that those specs would still be listed on the website...

If you were thinking of playing this game, don't.

It is still in very very bad shape at the moment. Riddled with bugs/exploits/etc. Best to wait a few more months to see if it can stay afloat/get fixed.

Could I get NA buddy/trial key? thanks in advance.

thanks..I will buy it then

I just checked and buying the House of Thule expansion does indeed give you all of the previous expansions as well as a ton of other goodies so you should be set to play the prog or live servers to your hearts content.

I was there at the start and two weeks later some players were already max level. I soon realized that this was not even close to classic and we will never see classic EQ again. :( I give Sony credit though for trying.

From my understanding the only thing they did was get rid of the hell levels (thank god). And you and I both know that Evercrack can keep you glued to your screen for hours and hours and hours. Reaching lvl 50 in that time doesn't sound too unreasonable to me without hell levels. Especially if marcro's are in as you can set them up to have a healer friend heal/buff you while you kill things as long as you have an auto clicker.

which download version should i buy then?...

If you plan on playing the game long term I would suggest buying the house of thule. I am 99% sure It will give you all of the expansions from the beginning til then. This will keep you from having to purchase them as they become unlocked through the prog server.

You can also hop on the regular server if you want to start a character with all of the new bells and whistles and what not.

I actually just resubed to EQ for the prog server. It has only been out a month or so if I recall. They don't start voting for progression until 3 months out (if I remember correctly). So you will have plenty of time to get to level 50 if you want until the next expansion comes out.

It takes a lot for me to get hyped up about a game, but from the little info we have actually gotten I am pretty excited. 500 individual skills, faction pvp (If I recall correctly 3 faction pvp). Modern world with sci-fi/high fantasy mixture.

Yes please.

I am also excited for World of Darkness, but that is just because it is CCP making it.

I am actually about to get the station pass and start playing between EQ prog server, Vanguard, and Pirates of the Burning Sea. If I am feeling frisky I may pick up DCU but that may be a few too many games for me.

On a side note, are the vanguard forums down or turned off? I just tried to look through them and nothing would come up.

They are up for me, mostly dead mind you aside from the newbie yard, but they are accessible.

Ah I am completely unable to see anything on them. Kind of strange...

Oh well, will see how everything is once I get everything downloaded for all the games and start playing again.

To anyone currently playing, how is the population at 50+? I have a 5x necro at the moment, will probably want to start getting back into raiding and what not once I get back in.

Probably because the people holding the IP don't want a game company to bastardize their franchise.

Shouldn't you post this in their official forums?

I honestly and truely feel bad for Indie companies. In today's game market there is really no room for something semi-unique to pop up. There will never be another "Eve" situation happen again (in my opinion at least). Release was terrible, game looked horrid, but people stuck with it and gave it the time it needed to become what it is today. This mainly was because there was nothing else out there that could compare. Now it is one of the strongest subscription games out there even if it still is a niche game. 40k or so people logged into it right now.

Today's market is flooded with 20000030385782972637 copies of the same exact game design. Indie companies that try to make something unique fail hard because they can't get the funds to keep development going for long enough to get the game in a releasable state. They are forced to push out early, have a terrible launch, piss off the people who had hope and then the word of mouth from those people kills any chance the game has to get back on its feet.

I would feel bad for this Indie company, however they were very fortunate in getting hundreds of subscriptions for their unfinished product and so far it doesn't seem as if they're using the money to make their product whole.  If that is the case, the only ones I'll feel bad for are the subscribers who "invested" in this project, not the subscribers who payed to play an inferior product just because its a sandbox.

Most of the time they have to pay initial investors x% of their sales revenue. Then paying all the other costs they have severely limits what they can actually do.

Lord British need to make UO 2

RPG freaks miss him so much.

He invented the MMORPG, we need him now to reinvent the industry (let's pretend Tabula Rasa never existed)

This minus the TR thing. It was the dev company that mucked up tabula. They pretty much made him change every aspect of the game that he designed and it was completely different from the way he wanted the game to be. That is why it crashed and burned.

I am also not happy with the way that game companies are trying to steer into browser based social site gaming. I did not spend hundreds of dollars on a vid card to play some POS game out of a browser. Stop being lazy asses and make a real game.

That being said, yes, we need UO2. I still can't believe that no one has been able to make a sandbox that even comes close to comparing to UO. Not speaking about the nostalgia of the game. I am speaking purely of how many skills worked together without breaking game balance. Yes there were flavor of the months but they were countered after someone was able to put a different skill system together. The game system allowed for the players to govern themselves, not letting the rules restrict the game play.

Also, I can not believe that AAA MMO's today do not launch with player housing. A game that was made in '99 had player made housing, how can games now not do this?

Maybe one day they will release a "Fable" or an "Elder Scrolls" MMO. Here's to hoping.

The whole thing that comes down to how much it costs to actually play a F2P is the person.

F2P games are absolutely spectacular in my mind because there are absolutely no restrictions for entry into the game. In most games you can also get to end game without having to spend a single dime on it. This all comes down to a person's ability to have a little self restraint.

F2P games are focused on impulse purchasing. Human's in general are all about instant gratification. When a person hits a wall in a f2p game they are usually able to spend a little bit of money to get a ladder to go over that wall. Deco items as well are geared towards getting people to purchase things without really thinking about it. They get the "oh that is nice, I need it now." factor going and someone will splurge. Now, when they have numerous releases in the item shop per month, someone can rack up some pretty high spending on f2p. I know a friend that was in my guild in Ether Saga Online who literally spent 600-1000$ USD a month for 5-6 months on the game.

If you have the time and self retraint, f2p is the way to go. If you are an impulse buyer who can't put the plastic down, just say no :-)

They should have made it a freemium. Had deco items for your costume in shop. Unlock certain areas for SC. Would have made them more money in the long run.

Champions Online mostly, with a bit of time in Guild Wars here and there.  Once I've had enough of CO, I'll pick up Uncharted Waters Online, and then Guild Wars 2.  And yes, Guild Wars 2 will be out by the time I'm ready for it.

I have been playing UWO for a while now, just started a break from the game since it is a perma grind. Still pretty fun though imo.

I think I am breaking until the Suez Canal is opened up since travel from Europe -> India is horrific at the moment.

League of Legends/Eve Online.

Just sold one of my characters in Eve and bought 2x60 day game time cards with the isk. Yay for free play for 4 months.
