In archeage you get 1-50 content, you can buy patron with in game money, so I'm not sure what you really want? I mean they have to make money some how. If they dont make money they shut down and nobody plays.

He is just mad like some gamers, because they want what we have for free, to many free loaders think, it does not cost money to work or make a game these games, so they throw a fit.

sick of seeing this crap on this forum, to many free loaders these days.. I wish F2P would go away..

I can see people think consoles are like the old days.. The fact is the new consoles are like a PC now a days... I do not understand plus why wait for PC version  most people do not play MMO's together anymore, they would rather solo..

So I like the fact  on my console, way less cheating... The graphics are damn good with next gen, I pre  ordered months ago for my  xbox one. can't wait.. 9 more days/

And to this article, I give you this.

Seems.... rather fitting.

Yeah I don't let myself get over hyped anymore, I tend to keep a reasonable outlook on new games to come. Destiny is the most over hyped game of the decade, and even though I enjoyed it, and had fun I'm not foaming out the mouth hyped about it. The last game I got so hyped over and ruined everything else for me was guild wars 2 cause of the amazing manifesto video. Even though I played it for months, and still have fun with it... it tought me not to overhype myself.

I agree nor do I , and I'm in the industry.. lol.  I have seen to many games hype them up and most are never that good. Destiny I was looking forward and thought it was going to be amazing, I played the beta and was slightly happy. I'm still buying it, but that's because I hope there is more to it than I seen.

Lol, F2P, Gamers who want F2P will never pay a dime, and just be free loaders, people who sub most of the time actually care about the game.

F2P is never fully free, it has been proven time and time again that you end up paying more than 15 a month to play the game the way you want it. So again, the only reason I see some gamers begging for F2P so they can play part of a game and pay nothing.

F2P hurts communitys and I see way more trolling and trash talk with games with F2P, I have ran a guild for 15 years, I tend to stay away to F2P games. Games like ESO if they go free will only make some guilds who actually like these games leave ...

This is why WOW is one of the bigger games  in my community because of its sub..

1) The business model is outdated. Subscription-based MMORPG's typically can't produce enough content that is both meaningful enough, challenging enough, and interesting enough at a pace that will last most MMORPG players, and Free-to-play games become so paralyzed by the reliance on cash-shops and pay-to-win, nickel-and-diming mechanics that they are often completely unplayable.

2) No MMO in the last decade has effectively countered RMT, cheating, botting, duping, hacking, etc with any semblance of effectiveness. Because of this, games are brutally and mercilessly saturated with rampant, flagrant cheating. If you never experienced FFXIV, then you haven't seen how an in-game community can be absolutely eviscerated by literally endless RMT spam, cheating, botting, etc. Players literally had to disable regional/zone/say chats just to even see their chat log because it was so toxic and endless. When people can't talk, they can't interact, which means that there isn't a community developing at all.

3) The total lack of evolution in gameplay. We're still using and seeing the same combat systems, the same quest-types, the same class-archetypes, the same principle functions, the same faction-grind-oriented gameplay, the same raid-for-phat-lewt mechanics. I can confidently say that there has been 0 evolution here in 10 years. If anything, games have become easier, faster, more roller-coaster oriented and less exploratory. There's no real player-related content beyond Eve Online, there's minimal interaction between devs and players, and there's nothing separating today's MMO's from each other at all.

4) The death of challenge. Challenge doesn't mean grinding out dailies and farming mobs for loot only. Challenge doesn't mean raiding. Challenge should be ever-present throughout. When's the last time you played an MMO that presented any challenge at all, barring the last 1% of the content that involves raiding?

5) The emphasis on the "here and now" and the lack of emphasis on "Prolonged involvement". Everything in games these days is about the now now now now now, what-have-you-done-for-me-lately, and instant gratification crowd. What staying power does your modern MMO have? There are no rewards for commitments to guilds, for playing a game continuously, for being involved on the forums, etc. As such, there's no community involvement, really, because it's not about finding a guild and sticking with them, it's about "Who can help me right now, this second, with what I want?" instead of "Let's grow and develop together".

6) The communication breakdown between developers, forum moderators, and players. The place where companies can get a feel for the game's problems, what people want, what they need, what they like/dislike, what bugs are present, etc, is the forums. When's the last time you went to a game's forums that weren't completely toxic? It's either saturated with extreme whiners and ragers and liars and trolls who would do anything to wish failure on the game, or overloaded with whiteknights and apologists and propaganda artists who would assure you that the game is perfect. The medium for civilized, thoughtful, insightful conversations is further ruined by militant moderation practices (If you even tried to say anything about a bug on FFXIV's forum, you could be perma-banned; it was that serious) that filter out the real news more often than not.

But, more importantly of all....

7) The total death of the community; the thing that gives games long-lasting appeal. With no emphasis on game modes, cooperative mechanics, party mechanics, teamwork, group incentive, and even fun activities, these games all feel like single-player games with an online function. This is the biggest complaint, to me, because without a community, there's no immersion, and without immersion, there's no passion or interest. Without that, I can't delve into a game nightly and be excited... and I haven't seen a true community since FFXI some 8 years ago. That's just sad :(

You may feel this way, not bashing you stating a fact, I went from gamer to dev to see the other side as I blamed some things on devs, but what you want, others will not, and there are so many people who all want some different. I been part of a team who made a game with more multi player, then you have people screaming I want solo play!!!!

Look  at arche age they are pushing for group play, with crafting and people are like I want to solo it all!!11 So this is a small example of why MMO's are messed up, over 10 years back, we had more people liking similar things.

We have the ability to advance, heck I advance AI, UI all day on my own stuff, but I can't use it with any company I work for because they say the player base would have a heart attack if we changed a lot. The publishers turn it down.. Because the feed back for change , is so bad!! So again this is the gamers and publishers fault.

This is why I'm going on my own, and no longer working or a big company, and work for myself. I also will NOT make MMO's anymore, to many trolls and whiners. I also ran a guild for 15 years, and see all the changes I do not like. People do not want to group like they did 10 years ago.

Heck in ESO, we had over 300 people, only 10 would come on TS, and only 3 would group... So again, I see it in other guilds as well, 10 years ago, 90% of us played as a guild... So you tell me the problem again.. I see it... Being a gamer, a Dev and a guild leader, I have seen a lot, I also been gaming over 30 years..

Streamlined leveling. I am tired of running around like an errandboy from hub to hub, area to area, zone to zone playing the same style of content as the other 5 MMO's that I played before, following an arrow, where everyone plays solo.

Start playing sandbox's then, there are plenty  with out this!!

Honestly, I hate to say it but, the players.

I am so sick of people being stuck on this linear, quest grindy, reward driven, level-based progression model.

We have the ability to play these games differently, yet we chose not to and complain that they aren't different. I would love to see a change in mentality that would actually allow for different types of MMOs to exist. I would love to see more sandboxy games that don't rely heavily on quests or pvp. But I would love to see them actually thrive, instead of being really small, clunky, niche genres.

I'd love to see more RPGs using the zelda model of progression. Obtain tools to allow you to traverse more of the gameworld, over simply getting a high enough lvl to survive.

I'd love to see more interactive combat (I miss the skillchain system FFXI had, for example).

I'm not huge on crafting, but it would also be nice to see more interesting crafting systems in these games. Though again, if it's too intricate, people don't seem to bother using them.

- Though, I will also say that I've met a lot of really great people through these games. So it really has been a mixed bag. I just wish the status quo was a bit different. Maybe in a few years.

Being a gamer who turned Dev, you one of few that actually nailed the problem.. They always blame the devs, when in fact devs have little to no say in what is released in  a game this is why a lot are going indie... Plus the issue is the players, look at the thread even look how many think so differently , there is no way to please everyone, this thread is a small example of what we devs see, so there you go!!

Lost faith in them, they ask guilds to test for them, and then turn around and invite other guilds. THEY do not stand behide there word. ... They even admitted this on one of there twitters...  So already showing me and to others, we were hardcore fans, and are no longer hard core  fans due to them lieing to some of the playerbase about testing.

They seem very inexperienced which I know its there first game but being in the industry you should never ever make a MMO your first game bad choice!!! I'm sorry but this game will fall hard, watch and see. Also tab target and another style?  PVP is going to be messed up having  types of combat.

Also one of the main devs has no dev experience at all, that person is just a gamer, by seeing some of the stuff I seen so far it shows.  Super hero armor?? Really, this is a SCI-FI I thought...

AS I said I was a hardcore fan, I'm not as of a few months ago, due to the choices they been making with development.  They also seem to cater to people who kiss about to them...

Not really and here is why ....

PC games = FREE or massively reduced in price (yes there are cash shops and some games you still pay full price for, however cash shops are a choice you make)

Console games = $60/game

Huh, I didn't realize that all those F2P games and indie (reduced cost) games in the PS store were figments of my imagination.

Man, look at all these brand new AAA PC games that totally aren't $60.

So.... $400 is upfront yes, but might as well call it $460 so you can have a game to play, but then if you want online add $50

and you're up to $510 so you can play one game online.

two games - $520 add $50 if you want to play online $570

three games - $580 add $50 if you want to play online $630

four games - $640 add $50 if you want to play online $690

and so on.....

Or, you could just do what you can do on PC and play F2P games, or wait for B2P games to go on sale.

With PC - Steam has a mega sale - you can get 10 or more games for $50

PlayStation is about to have their big summer sale, and GameStop has had theirs going for a while now. Shockingly enough you can get great deals on games during these too.

10 console games and a console = $1000

If you just have to buy 10 brand new games at the time of the console purchase... then yes.

$1000 - 10 pc games = $950 ,

And, your talking about the exact same 10 games that were bought for the console here too, right? Because, if so, nope... total bullshit. Your $950 PC comes out to $1550 with 10 brand new games.

for $950 you can build an

8bg, i7 4790k, msi z97, 750watt gold, gtx660 pc that blows new consoles out of the water. Processor power overload with this setup

or

You can drop the i7 and pick up an i5 and swap the gtx 660 for a gtx 770 or r9280x and totally dominate new consoles from a  graphical standpoint

And the rest of all this is pointless. Of course a higher powered, and higher priced, PC will dominate a console. Don't know what that has to do with your point about PC gaming being cheaper that console gaming.

They cost pretty much the same. If your only willing to put the same amount of money into PC gaming as you would console gaming, then your going to get about the same experience, at first anyways. But, if your willing to spend more, then you get get a better experience, at least in the graphics department.

Lol console games have games for free and sales to, so what are you talking about, were are you getting these numbers?? I can buy games for 5 bucks on console as well like steam, so I'm confused by these comments , another user who knows anothing about a console. Stop hating because you can't afford one..

Consoles are way cheaper than a PC, I have a PC that costs me over 3k.. I also have every console made... I also have hundreds of games, and I bet a spent less with my consoles.. So again insert foot into mouth and do proper research next time please.  Thanks.

ROFL, console costs less and looks way better than any  AVG PC... Try playing one and see for your self...    This is why they are called the next Gen for a reason, PC needs to get there butt in gear..

They either bring it to pc or go to @uck Off

That sounds really stupid when you consider Consoles are just gaming computers with different operating systems. I play MMORPGs but I dont limit myself to a keyboard, plug in a controller and you have got a console. By thinking your being better than others by not playing on Consoles your just limiting your gaming experience to what is on PC, I love Madden, Halo, and after this past weekend Destiny, so thank god for consoles and your loss =)

I been playing MMO's since they started, I also love consoles. Funny how the new consoles are actually computers now, so I agree, I love how people who do not have the new consoles try and bash something they know nothing about and sound jealous they do not have one.

I personally love Destiny and played it for about 5 days now.. Some of those claiming its easy, well of course the low levels are suppose to be like any game...  The game gets harder... I also got good gear, so try looking and exploring for once to find good gear I DID and found great gear...  The game has exploring and found like any game, people do not do it.

Thanks more gear for me!!!

The only real F2P money makers are MOBAs, specifically LoL. The problem is, what is implemented in MOBAs is not very possible in MMOs, mainly with skins as the selling point. In MMOs, gamers expect costumes to be free...

That's not my experience.  I have played a lot of video games free, sub, or some mixture of the two and with only a few exceptions costumes and vanity items are the most active items in the cash shop.  If a company is releasing new costumes every week for a game in the cash shop you can be sure it's because those kinds of items are selling and worth the effort to develop and publish.

It may be this case, especially if the costumes are really attractive, and seasonal. But seemingly companies are getting lazy lately. Most of the fashion stuff are recolored or copy-and-paste.

LoL now goes beyond just costumes and skins, with additional graphics, voiceovers, and even animation. I like to use Forecast Janna as an example, being released as a legendary skin, costing $20-$30 (depending on region), It is not just her weapon turning into an umbrella. She has new voiceovers, jokes, and even her ultimate has a different animation. Most interesting is her Forecast personality is totally different from the original Janna, which may be the biggest selling point. Perhaps Riot knows legendary skins sell, so are willing to pay top dollar to R&D an attractive skin, yet does not offer any form of advantage against gamers with no game skins.

I'm a gamer who turned DEV , I seen both sides, once you have done this, you will understand more. People think because they are gamers they know the business side to things, well, you don't. I thought so as well, until I worked in the field. People need to understand they do not know...

Moba and MMO's are like apple and oranges, things that work in MOBA's does not work in MMO's.  The issue today is people, everyone likes different things and gamers think each person believes it should be done a way to there liking.. People are selfish, greedy and anti social this is the problem with MMO's not the DEVS.   If you don't believe me go in the field... I did not to see what the problems were before, I see them now....

Also some gamers want it all for free, and do not want to pay for even  good games. I hear about people torrent a game all the time, they are ruining the industry and ripping people off... Great job with that, how would you like it if people ripped off your hard work!!!.. This is what is ruining games, people  who want it all there way and for nothing!!

I have studied this when I got my BA in Game Production, and I see this is what people are acting like, not all but more then you think. Look at this forum, I read all the time, if the game goes free I will play!!!  Really the company can survive by making a game for free?? I would love any company to do totally free..

FTP is not free , it actually costs more than a sub, that is what I find  funny when I see people throwing a fit  over a sub base game!!

I'm not looking for a game to replace my life or have my wildest fantasy fulfilled. I play a game to have fun. It doesn't have to be a totally unique experience with every new game.

I think a better question would be why do some gamers have totally unrealistic expectations when it comes to mmos. If every mmo "fails" to live up to what you think it could be....do you really think it's them and not you ?

Here is what I would like to see in an MMO:

1) open game world, no lobbies, arenas, BG's, instances.  NONE.

2) no limits to who I can guild, party, chat with.  Allow for game design and mechanics to determine how players align, by the players own choosing.

3) difficult, game play.  not over the top hardcore mode crazy, but if I die, make it HURT... just not to the point where I want to quit.  some of us have lives, families or tv shows to watch too.

4) difficult gameplay = PvP.  WELL done, thought out PvP...also allow servers for the carebears.  that way they can STFU and all hold hands and be friends in candyland together.

5) decent PvP and decent PvE all in one game....YES it can be done.  it aint hard.  L2 had decent pve and pvp.

6) themepark elemts are ok, as long as sandpark elements exist as well.

7) piss off with the hand holding.

This has been done before Asheron call 1...  Some indies are close to this.... I'm a gamer who turned Dev because I got tired of some of the games I seen. Now that I see the other side. its not always the devs, but the feed back from players is so bad..

I see stuff from players, you get a ticket, it says your game sucks.. What  is the problem sir... Well it crashes, what is your specs, your game just sucks. Mind you this is during Alpha phase even....

I also love the ones, were I get its Alpha but why so many bugs ??? Really you get its Alpha, but expect the game to not have bugs?? If that was the case it would be Open beta or release..

I have seen people on chat , say , tell the devs there is no bugs so they hurry and release, I have seen this many times.. So who's fault is it here???  The devs or the gamers??

I have played games since Atari, games have changed so darn much, its sick..... MMO's same thing, we have so much hand holding, its nearly completes the quest it self..   I personally would like to see older games come back like Asheron call

My wife bugs me to make a Modern AC3, something like it, but with better graphics, and better combat, but the same style with no hand holding, the patron , vassels, she loved that...

Lol, I love gamers today.. They keep saying if it goes F2P.!!!   I love being in this industry/.... Do you people realize when a game goesF2P, your paying more for the game!!!!! Look at LOTR and SWTOR, they are making a ton more..... This also ruins the communitys, most are full of people that ruin community's...

I don't get gamers today they want a game to do F2P and they end up paying more than 15 bucks a month to play the way they want to.. Any F2P game I have played, I end up spending more, so I sub anyways if they have it, as I have heard watch so many people pay more . I hear some people pay 50 bucks a month for LOTR.. To funny....  People really think FTP is cheaper than a 15 dollar a month sub..

the devs laugh at you all the way to the bank......  I don't understand any of you and your free to play, only way you can play for free, if you play the bare min of a game... That is not really playing the game....... If gamers are happy with that, I feel sorry for you, because that is not what an MMO is....

F2P is trash, and had ruined communitys and the meaning of friendship and guilds, and good communitys....  Give it a few years I will be back to say I told you so...

It's just a new trend that companies are using to make more cash under the guise of it is helping support the company or some other bla bla excuse and of course it works because wizard's first rule applies.

NOTE: this isn't an insult towards anyone just my humble opinion!

Please go look up the cost of the software to make a game, if you feel this way, please research the cost of making a game. If you need to pay good programmers expect to pay 70k - 150k, each person for a good one.  that's FOR one programmer. Imagine when you have about 50 of them...

Now the software, lets start 3DS Max, or Maya, or both 5k each... Photoshop, we will be cheap and use the cloud 20 bucks per month , per user, yes I know there is a team license .  A little cheaper, I have one.    The game engine, per seat. Server costs. Each program, you need to use, or have someone make.. They nickel and dime you.. Terrain sculpting tools, Zbrush 800 bucks per user, Mudbox 800 per user...   Over head and rent for a building...  These are some basic needs to run a company to make a game...  You have to license your company... You have taxes to pay, so again, were do you think they are pocketing money here???

I went from a big company to now, running my own game development company, I can tell you the costs rack up... Some games, you don't get your return, I already had that happen with one of our games... We lost money.... So please research before you assume this./

/cheers.

I think the reason for the $150 up front is because of the large amount of interest in the game.  The community has been watching the development of the game, waiting for it to be released in NA and constantly asking when and for more information.  So the cost is definitely based on demand for this particular game.  Whether it is right or not is up for debate, but I doubt few other games could do this and be successful, and from what I've read those who have paid for this are not unhappy with their investment.

This is untrue, there are plenty that are happy, we just don't post about it, I wish people would stop saying this.  .This is a fact that most people who are happy are busy playing and a lot I know for a fact hate this forum because of the lies and posts like this...  You guys love to troll and complain..  I also get sick of people saying money grabs.... They are to support the cost in making a game, get that through your heads... I do not understand why people keep saying this , it is annoying..

I hate to be mean here, but its just annoying that people act like this.. I mean, who is making you pay the 150 bucks??? No one, people want in beta for free, well, devs have realized when people pay , you have more of a chance people will report bugs and make a better game. You know why?? Because its your investment. I have sat there through atleast 40 games in early betas and watch people complain and say, say the game is good, so we can play!!!!

Really!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People think that companies can do all there own testing.. Its impossible to do all of your own testing, its best to allow the crowds in... So again, sorry if I came off so harsh, but I want people to see the other side of the story as well.

PS: I'm  a gamer who turned DEV, I also have a BA in game production and study games, and develop a lot.. So I don't know it all, but I study games to make them better, its hard when you see comments like this, and assume they know thr truth and this every MMO is scamming them....   Read some of my other posts, I won't repeat me self but when there are no more MMO's being made, you will understand why... The day is coming, I'm telling you...

Not to sound rude, but try making a game, when you have to deal with so many people, who all want different things that will happen. MMO's are getting harder to make because now a days, no one wants the same thing. I mean look at this game, a lot of the PVEers are coming here and trying to change the game because they are scared of PVP.. or ganking.

I made a guild 15 years ago, and defend  people who don't like being ganked. We also gank the gankers... So not all PVP fans are gankers.  We do not gank people are are alone unless they attack first or run there mouth.

So I wish people would understand making MMO's in my eyes are going to come to an end in the next 5 years, I been saying this. I hope this does not happen as I'm in the industry, but I see what is going on and a lot of the information given to us by players.  its disgusting.. gamers need to give developers more respect, they don't. They  just complain, when is the last time on this forum have you seen someone say, great job devs...Never they would rather rip there head off..

If you made a game, you will never make everyone happy ever... Period... I have realized this after making many games. I was a gamer that turned dev and thought it was there fault..

Its not always there fault, its the trolling, and the people throwing fits and it confuses devs, when you have 10 people saying one thing, and another 10, saying something else and so on. I have seen this and it makes there job harder.

Heck when I ran my guild, we lasted 7 years in AC1 and in WOW 5 years, now we are lucky to last 30 days!!!

Sad... so sad..

The point I'm trying to make , if you want a game to do well, make comments and helpful ones with out  yelling and throwing a fit, also report all bugs and do it properly!!!.. This can help the devs.. I been in so many beta and been a dev of some MMO and listen to chat, its horrible.. People need to grow up.. So we all can have fun games and last for many years instead of throwing fits.

Making MMO's are not easy at all, heck even small scale games are hard to make...

Will the finished product of the DayZ Standalone be the Fallen Earth we never got? In my opinion the Alpha is going extremely well, and I am now up to 600 hours of gameplay. Through those 600 hours I have seen nothing but improvements in this game.

I know hopes are high for this game, but so far I am thoroughly impressed with the Alpha. Soon we will have 64 bit servers and I am hoping these guys can build a game that can support several hundred players on this map. I don't think anyone can disagree that this game has the most potential of any game currently on the market.

I can't even imagine when an economy arises, vehicles are added, and crafting structures comes into play.

LOL, your trolling  I hope, FE, has way better crafting, and nothing like DAY SA.. Nothing, are you sure your playing the right game!!!  People like this make me laugh when they try and compare a game like FE to DAYZ SA..nothing like it , not even close!!

Good bye

With the new patch they have effectively destroyed the game for the PVE crowd.......No reason for us to stay here....

Why would any PVE'er hang around with the current scheme?

And who will the wolves now have to gank?

Grats to the PVP crowd.....You now have YOUR game.......

Enjoy!

This is why MMO's are dieing so fast, gamers today do not get there way and they act like this.If you hate the game why did you feel the need to post?? People whine to damn much..

Sounds like they are aiming to make the game challenging which to me equals fun.  Everyone should not be able to achieve everything and especially not by themselves.  This is one of the reasons MMORPG's today are failing.  Lack of challenge.  Everyone being able to "achieve" by crafting/building/beating everything is the definition of a single player game.  In an MMO skill and ability should separate the best from the rest.  This in turn will encourage the average to strive to achieve what the best have accomplished.  It should not be so easy to the point that everyone accomplishes every feat with average effort.  That's just boring.  Accept and relish the challenge and strive to become the best.  Only when you have achieved that status, will you truly feel rewarded.  Effort and skill should have its just rewards.  More importantly is the question of time.  Your time is your most precious resource.  If you are going to spend it playing a game, make it worth your while.

This is the reason, people like to play alone and they don't want to depend on others. We need more MMO's they you need to rely on others, I don't get why people have such a problem with it.. If they can't solo everything, then the game sucks.!!

Go play Skyrim if you want to play alone , its called a MMO for a reason .!!! If I made AA, I would allow one character per account and force group play more...

I applaud Ikonoclastia for posting about his experience in EVE, and his list of incident after incident of degenerate behavior that is taking place in EVE. He beat me to it in fact. But I wanted to make a new thread because I believe this warrants one.

I just left EVE this week after 10 months, completely fed up and tired of the harrassment that goes on day after day. If it isn't me, it's always someone else I know. And I kid you not... DAILY... and REGULARLY. It has gotten to the point where players literally log on for the sole reason to go grieve players.

I too have submitted a report of harrassment where a player targeted me and only logged onto his main to check out where i was and to see if I was vulnerable. He would go as much as 15 jumps to find me. Five weeks straight! And I'm a new player. And if he was contacted by EVE about the issue, clearly he didn't get the message.

The problem CCP refuses to deal with is that games need to evolve, and stubbornly hanging on to old ways of managing the game is killing it.  The "open sandbox" view may have once worked when the playing field was more leveled and the diversity of players was greater. But just as they "had hoped", the game has evolved by player participation. Unfortunately it has gone awry in a horrible way.  The bullies who have fun griefing players are staying, and the new gamers (to EVE, or even just to the world of gaming) give EVE a matter of a few months (even if that) before they leave in disgust at the cruelty and anti-social behavior displayed in front of their faces day after day.

What is ironic is that it is clear CCP is panicking over a shrinking player base. Look at the promotions. In addition to the extension of the 14-day trial to 21 days if you sign up through a buddy (thinking that a friend will help them through the game), there are rewards for those who bring back reactivated accounts, and a 6-month promotion for players who create a second account (the idea of double clienting was only recently approved by CCP-- no surprised there why they did that). They have initiatives having a GM personally contact every new player within the first day or two -- a real live responding GM. Talk about dedicating resources to trying to keep new players interested -- personal contact is expensive. I know. I worked for a big company at the highest level. There are workshops they offer to new players. There are links galore to places where new players can get information on how to get used to the game.

But CCP is barking up the wrong tree. New players -- the kind who will invest in a game like this -- will very quickly get over the steep learning curve of EVE. The challenge of manuevering through the UI and discovering the various kinds of roles EVE allows you to play is enough to keep them engaged. The complexity is an encouragement to stay, not a deterrent. And once in a real corp, they will settle in fast. So in my opinion CCP has got it all wrong. It's not that new players are not coming because of the complexity of the game. They are not STAYING because of the community experience.

The newest griefing trend is this ridiculous Alliance called CODE who is trying to take over high sec by ganking defenseless miners and forcing them into some sick kind of ideology where they are forced to not only comply to an individual's style of gameplay, but they are actually "commanded" not to complain when they get their ship blown up, looted, and then podded. If you want to take a look at some of the most twisted degenerate kinds of people who are enjoying EVE right now, go take a look at their website. minerbumping.com. (I'm sure they will love the press here). Calling players cancer and degenerates in public is not cool -- nor is it appropriate in any setting, including gaming. And since high sec is the home to EVERY new player in EVE, every single one (and I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE) will come into contact with this alliance within the first month or two. This alliance is literally holding "fun" as hostage and trying to force players to only play the kind of EVE game that gives them fun. The message: "play EVE how we want or get the hell out of the game." They claim they are making the game better, but in real fact, they are destroying the game -- and CCP is letting them do it.

If you want to make a program to see how fast you can get rid of new players in the game, this is EXACTLY HOW TO DO IT. The young players of EVE have no chance to even enjoy the game because they are bumped up again these bullies (no pun intended) and told "you are not welcome here unless you do things our way." Really CCP? You want to relinquish that kind of control? Because you are basically letting the game dig its own grave. When unsupervised, this is where the human mind degrades into. Or do you not study the history of the world AT ALL?

CCP has got to wake up. When a problem interferes with societal growth and development, like gangs or hate-generating ideologies, something needs to do something about it at the authority level. Unfortunately, gamers don't campaign for a game they only play for a few months -- or even just a year. They simply leave, and never tell anyone why. After all, who wants to admit they are being vicitimized for fear of looking weak and pathetic.

I wish they would just take their Terms of Service and actually follow it for once. They are letting way to many people get away with things that are hurting the game.

If you still don't understand the effects of how this alliance represents the EVE players who are destroying the new player base, take a look at the Stanford Prison Experiment by Zimbardo. It's a famous experiment which demonstrates how role-playing can have serious psychological effects on its participants. Unlike the experiment, players in EVE who are griefed just leave  the sandbox. So its not loss to those players. The consequences of this fall entirely on CCP. And unless they sit up and pay attention, they can kiss their great game good-bye.

I been gaming and running guild since MMO'S have been around, its not just EVE, the behavior from gamers has gotten worse and worse each game and each year. I entered the industry and further my education to make better MMO's as well, but after seeing how people act this has made me not care about it anymore.

Gamers ruin MMO and the media, so its getting worse and its funny how some people do not want to believe it, they are killing this industry , the average MMO was 5 years for a lot of people to play, now is like 30-90 days... Which is sad... The industry will not change unless people stop acting this way...
