there's a 2 tone armor dying system.    There's all sorts of colors but no official list of course on what colors.  The shots we see are Beta shots..they're not testing out all the armor and all the colors...since its not needed.

Funcom has never had a good reputation when it comes to customer service, launching, etc.  Plus they flat out said the game was designed for the Xbox which explains the issues people have with certain aspects of the game.

Mythic on the other hand has a long standing reputation despite 1 bad expansion.  The game is much further along and its been in development less time than Age of Conan.  They've never backpedaled on any promises unlike Funcom which promised DX10 at launch and there was none, that promised tons of classes then cut out several, that promised Drinking Capes only to veteran subscribers of their newsletter but put it into the CE, etc etc on the backpedalling.   Age of Conan is not a bad game the Dev's just made some really bad decisions due to investor worries.

This is not me saying everything will be super perfect 100 percent no patches needed and nothing is broken at launch.  All MMOs have issues, there are just some things that dont get taken care of in time or aren't caught until a server is fully loaded with players doing things at willy nilly.   But due to their very open policy towards things unlike the cloud of mystery that some companies have upheld WAR will not have the massive negative issues that AoC has had.  Thats just MY opinion of course.

The game is several months away (its launch estimate is Fall there is no official release date yet) so its really to early to be debating this particular subject.

btw i've not heard the same beta complaints you have....especially since to discuss so is a violation of NDA unless its officially discussed public information.    WAR's Closed beta ends the moment Open Beta hits.

Youre actually turned into a chicken if you gank lowbies? Any other penalties?

Nah, if you enter an RvR Tier that you have out-leveled  if you enter it, 10 sec later you get turned into a chicken with 1 hp  & 1 atk power!

This is to prevent high level players from coming down to lower tiers and disrupting the lower level players during their RvR.

Tiers are:

Tier 1 = Levels 1-10

Tier 2 = Levels 11-20

Tier 3 = Levels 21-30

Tier 4 = Levels 31-40

So if you are lvl 11 and try to enter a tier one area you get turned into a chicken!  If you leave the tier u get turned back into yourself!

I think this system is brilliant so as stated higher level players are basically forced to stay in their areas besides coming down and pecking at your ankles for humor!

Let me just add that recent info is that the chicken rule DOES NOT apply to tier 3....

This makes sense since it also seems that it won't be exactly 10 levels per tier. A recent interview on keep sieges says they'll be guarded with NPCs of max level for that tier - and that is lvl 12 for tier 1 and lvl 23 for tier 2.

http://war.warcry.com/news/view/81871-Keeps-and-Sieges

So I suppose tier 3 is going to be integrated into the endgame as a kind of an intro for tier 4 play but still directly contributing. According to this info tier 3  guards will be lvl 40, just like tier 4 ones. I imagine tier 3 is going to be 23-35 while tier 4 is the true "endgame" from say 36-40 when your advancement really begins.

Imo the game is made with endgame in mind. I suspect that leveling is going to be quite fast and the first 2 tiers are going to be more like an introduction - just some time to get acquainted with your class before the real game starts.

Once you reach max level your "apprenticeship" ends and you can begin advancing your character in earnest through whopping 80 levels of renown, guild levels, tome unlocks... This is quite logical if you consider that tier 4 zones take at least as much area as tiers 1, 2 and 3 put together.

I believe it really cool since leveling has become a right chore in most MMORPGs. Players are habitually rushing through levels asap so they can begin playing and really enjoying the game at max level.  "The Game begins at endgame" - most of the time playing a mmorpg you spend at the max level. Mythic obviously decided to shorten the "chore" and blow up the max level content. It is almost a kind of a hidden level-less system, or at least a step in that direction.

The Chicken rule applies to All Tiers but Tier 4, it'd make no sense to leave the Tier 3 people unprotected from Tier 4 people.  There are NO keeps in Tier 1.  If you watch the videos it explains keeps don't arrive until Tier 2.

well the Australians have it better than the Europeans they can play on their region servers or the US region servers since they'll all be run by EA......its unfortante but EA wasn't in the picture yet when they made the deal with GOA so......and since European law states that you have to run servers in Europe for Europeans Mythic went to GOA again (because they dont have offices in Europe...but EA does and well they weren't in the picture yet).  Depending on the length of the contract I wouldn't put it past them to not resign with GOA when it its up.

This said yes I think WAR will be the closest thing to a WOW and that will bring many players. Killer? maybe in time, but then WOW2 might appear? Who knows.

I play a HoX, tho I use a 2h sword.  No glitching issues I've found so far.

I've found the terrain you can't just run across and have to jump is the uneven terrain.  This makes sense from a realism standpoint as you would have to hope through uneven ground sometimes.  Though sticking to roads I've never had to jump to keep moving.

AoC is a pretty smooth launch all things considering.  WoW had the terrible problems of stuck while looting, your toons at character select being nekked, servers crashing, etc during their launch.  When EQ1 upgraded its graphics engine for Luclin they were doing daily patches for weeks to try and get things working.  Though I haven't had any of the problems you've had, I probably would be bitter too if I had the trouble you had.

700k is the total number of Units Produced and shipped to retailers.   AoC's actual sales to customers is about 400k  thats still impressive but not 700k.    Its also no excuse for deleting and or ignoring people's customer service requests for more than 1 day.

I'm not sure what game you've been playing or reading about but it has not been a smooth launch at all for AoC.  While its not Vanguard proportions of bad its not smooth sailing on the scale of WoW or even Lord of the Rings online (which had the smoothest launch in mmo history even better than WoW).   There are just some issues that should be fixed long before launch...things like imbalanced classes, minor bugs that don't completely ruin a player's experience, & lag are however a given for any launch.  AoC has had far worse problems than this many of which are related to issues they should of had addressed a long time ago since they had been claiming for months they were 'just polishing'.  Seems more like glossing over to me.

I won't call AoC some epic failure because I dont think it is...but I wish fanbois would stop glossing over things and calling anyone who disagrees with their opinion a liar.

anyway uh sorry to hear the downer Bladin I know you were looking forward to the game.

1. EA wasn't in the picture when Mythic Began work on WAR.

2.  Games Workshop Picked / Offered Mythic the Fantasy branch after the previous company with the rights to make the MMO fell through.

3.  The company responsible for the Warhammer 40k PC games has the rights to the Warhammer 40k MMO so Mythic couldn't do the sci fi one even if they wanted.

4.  Research before you bitch n moan...your getting your Warhammer 40k stop taking a crap pile on a game the rest of us are excited for.

No they don't take your spawn points...an area of the city or just outside becomes like a refugee point..its where all the spawn poitns and black market vendors will be waiting.   They dont' believe in Ganking...period.  When they take an area that has your spawn point its effectively shut off and becomes their spawn point...Yours gets moved.

I've always considered forced grouping of any kind ... well rather lame.  Thats not to say I dont like to group because I do enjoy it when I'm in the mood for some social interaction.  I always loved EQ1.  I didn't see it as 'forced' grouping in that game.  You could easily find something to do without a group, but the urge to group was strong because of the incentive to group.   WoW has incentives to group but its only at end game these days and only for players who want to spend X hours & Days repeating that area until they get some gear.

When EQ2 came out I thought this is going to be awsome...but it wasn't...the game was forced grouping..you couldn't hardly do anything without a group.   I'd spend way more time LFGing for a group than actually doing anything.   It broke my heart a bit...and ultimately I went to WoW...of  course when I realized their direction for end game I becamse horribly disenchanted and pretty much temporarily retired from MMOs.

MMORPGs should be all about choice...do I want to group today and go into dungeons or siege on an enemy keep?   Or do I want to solo today and just poke around at some crafting or minor quests.    You can't force people to group...its to alienating to those that are trying to get into a game.   If Dev's could find better incentives or methods to get people to group without even thinking about it...MMOs would contiue to feel like MMOs.   I think RvR games are possibly the closest atleast for Me anyway of a group game that doesn't force you to group..it just helps too group.

No way WAR is released this year !!!

The current beta client don't even have lightmaps and shaders yet.  And when it does, there will be months of graphical tweaking.

AOC has made a minor/major/huge (you decide) success. WAR has more pressure then ever if they are going to steal players from both WOW and AOC.

I beg Mythic and EA NOT to rush the release.

I've watch all the podcast, and on paper WAR seems to add tons of amazing, innovative stuff that I really love. But if Mythic rush, I'm pretty sure all the features there are talking about will just
be "on paper".

The MMO market needs WAR to complement what WOW and AOC lack. DONT RUSH !!!

Ok.. new lightmaps, textures, effects, shaders etc will probably in open beta.. Why? Because there is no reason to increase size of beta client by 4-5 giga to have only some pretty graphics settings in the game.. and I am not even talking problems what this higher settings may cause.

Anyway, for feature, most feature are already in beta and new comming with each major build.. so :) I am sure you are wrong.

So Mythic just has to attach the nice graphics to the game client ?. I didn't know it was a simple add-on

textures, shaders, & etc are just add ons..they're completely seperate from an Engine...its 'art content' not 'engine' content.

I got bored and watched all the podcasts today (seen some earlier ones before). Got some questions I would love answered, sorry if you've answered them before. thanks

  • if anyone can help capture a keep, what decides whose guild gets to claim it?
  • if your capital is captured (sacked). what the heck do you do? I mean I know systems are implace to give it back, but what do we do until that happens. if they've caputred your capital how will you spawn and play the game? do you just sit and wait and twiddle your thumbs?
  • when you do get your capital back from being sacked does it go back to being lvl 1 (poor) again?
  • where is the voice acting used? all quests or just some of the more important quests with cutscenes?
  • why no ladders in a keep?

1.   Not sure..but I assume its who ever gets there first.   It shouldn't matter in the end though since it benefits your entire realm.  Its just a nice extra perk to really put guild effort behind taking one.

2. If you get sacked your locked out..you still ahve other things to do and places to go but you really should be recooping your losses, replenishing potions & making repairs because you'll need to mount a fresh attack to take the city.  Its not just 'handed' back to you...You have to actually try and take it back.

3.  Depending on how much damage they did to your city and how long they maintain control of it yes you could end back up at lvl 1.   Hopefully they're working on ways to make recovery worthwhile.

4.  No idea...we'll have to wait for launch to find out.   I don't think they're going to be real detailed here...the bandwidth needs to be free to go to other things.

5.  Keep Seige ladders...never know they could be added later on..however I don't see them being useful since the enemy players would be able kick them over..not to mention they can poor Oil on you and you'd be completely un protected.   In essence they'd lose you more troops than give you any benefit.  The initial goal anyway is to take the door down..you can't techincally enter until the door is down.

I wouldn't pay attention to the September crap, I mean, come on, September is in the end of Q3. If they already KNEW that they were going to be pushing it back that far, I doubt they wouldn't have told us by now. I mean, as if they're going to wait till June 30th to be like, "Oh, ya, btw, we're not releasing it today, it's being pushed back till Q3.

...Now I have an ominous feeling...haha

Uhhh they said Q4 / Push back in March dude

If a person doesnt like a game they dont' like a game Waky you can't just say his opinion is crap because you don't agree...if he doesnt like it nothing you say or try to say will change his mind.   AoC isn't for everyone just like WAR isn't for everyone..its the nature of the beast.

Personally I think Funcom fubar'd itself...but its to soon to see what the final damage of their PR disaster will lead too.   It won't be some million subscriber game but atleast its not a crash and burn disaster from hades like Vanguard.

*has no personal problem with AoC just hates its Fanbois that unrealistically fight to the death over the game despite its obviously Glaring & Glowing in Neon Signs issues*

Sure, but WAR is practically a WoW clone. Not in a bad sense, but it's graphics are a little better than WoW, and AoC offers something with more of High-end graphics. Sure, there is no such thing as a Perfect launch MMO, and I'm sure that WAR will have it's problems also. You just have to give it a little time to perfect itself. Eventually, in a few years, WAR and AoC will knock WoW off its feet. I guarentee it.

For example..this is a Fanbois troll that has no idea what he's talking about..he's looked at pictures and gone onto auto assume mode...sad really...because WAR is not a WoW Clone...at all.

it may have some issues like any game that launches but hopefully it won't have the Harassive, easy to exploit, get banned for nothing issues that AoC is having...i mean they have this great game and Funcom is fubaring it......

WAR's by far in better condition atleast time line wise..they've added more to the game while Funcom took away a ton from the game....its just hard you can't compare AoC & WAR ...and I don't remember WoW being that buggy or content less.   PvP promises were made late in the game it was pretty much expected not to have any major pvp stuff until after launch everyone knew that, infact they said flat out that PvP stuff wouldnt' be in the game until after launch...it wasn't on the original timeline ... meaning..it wasn't a Launch Issue.   The lag in WoW was due to sheer overwhelming numbers of people logging on and nothing else (well ok and from people doing things they didn't think people would).  Even though it had its share of strange bugs its nothing compared to the ones that AoC is having.

Lets not forget that WAR's been incredibly open and instead of running their own forums they're letting players do it..meaning they have alot of confidence in their game...because if it has the Funcom issues .. Everyone's going to know and right away and it won't be third hand information since Funcom is playing damage control by blocking their forums from non subscribers.

They're showing us way more gamplay than Age of Conan ever did..all we ever saw of their videos were Tech Videos.   To be honest the Podcasts are not about showing 'gameplay' they're about 'discussing' gameplay and careers.   If you want gameplay videos that are official you look at the Video of the Month..they've not had one in two months.    Mythic's marketing has been carefully planned and while I'd like to see more gameplay videos ... to be honest what game has ever shown us a ton of game play videos before release?   Lord of the Rings didn't, WoW didn't, EQ2 didn't, etc.    Its just the name of the marketing game.

Hopefuly we'll see some screen shots of the white lion soon but like they've done with all the other classes I wouldn't count on seeing it for atleast two months now that its been officially announced.

btw crusher welcome back we missed your incestant trolling...did your game of choice burn you so you came here to grief us instead or are did you figure it'd be safe to slip back in?   Q4 is the perfect time for release its right before the holidays...you know big shopping season and all...WoW & EQ2 both launched in Q4 and did just fine..More than fine in WoW's case.  Most Consoles are even released around Q4.

They mean its not 100 percent Gear Based....like someone in uber rific gear doesn't just automatically own everyone..he has a 'slight' advantage but if he's a poor player someone in slightly more standard gear could probably take him.     The game is based around group mechanics..there won't be any 100 percent uber pwns all classes unless its heavily unbalanced.

See games that are 'gear based' are usually 100 percent about gear at all times...they've already stated numerous times that Gear is not the overwhelming factor to a win...skill, how you set up your tactical & morale abilites, and of course strategic thought will have an over whelming factor to a win in a battle for their side.

Lets see, you can have one gathering skill and one crafting skill max... where did I see this.. oh yes WOW, only they allow you to have two gathering or two crafting, so they were even ahead of WAR 4 years ago!

Limiting the player to one of each is good for the game economy because it forces the player to trade for the resources that cannot be harvested. Regardless, the idea of crafting and gathering was in no way created by WoW.

Then.. i can extract magic from items and get magical essence! My god this is brillilant! Yes like in WOW. But, really, what can be better than extracting magic from the items. I'm sure I can't think of a better way. Oh yes I can, if I spend a couple of days thinking about it, but hey, if WOW has it and it works, why should I???

What makes you think Blizzard thought up the idea of magic items being dechanted into essences and shards?

But wait.. they don't have recepies, this is so great, you will get everything from the trainers. So it's a simplification of WOW system. This is so INNOVATIVE. These guys really earn they money, they are awsome thinkers!

You seem to have misunderstood, you get things such as basic seeds and tools from the trainers (most likely not a trainer but a merchant). More important ingredients are obtained through killing, looting, and scavenging. (Edit: aka. Gathering)

Now it's very clear WAR = WOW2

Watching the video - Take 2  *click*

Well I didn't say the idea of crafting and gathering was created by WOW.  I also didn't say Blizzard thought up the idea of disenchanting, I said it is in WOW. They are doing something almost exactly as WOW. I knew they wanted to do the nex WOW but I thought they'd be more talented to create something innovative. So far we have BG with steroids and a simplified WOW crafting system. Great.

ROFL! ...... ROFL Your idiocy astounds me most of the time but today you cracked me up...Who the mother flip cares what game had disenchant the hell first.  It makes sense to have it in order to make magical items ... Your skimming along the surface grabbing lil bits and peices and goinG OMG WOW when in actuality its nothing the hell like WoW.  You can't make an MMO without seeing something reminiscent of another game..when I look at AoC I see tons of Shadowbane & WoW elements..when I see WoW i see tons of EQ1 elements.    When i look at WAR I see elements all across the board from EQ1, to DAoC, to yes even WoW.   Thats how games work..thats how they've always worked.   There is no such thing as a game that has every single element 100 percent unique and new...not since the days of Pong have we seen that.

The last line of your post alone in red proves how much of a Troll or just a spitiful lil trouble maker you are I haven't decided yet.  WoW crafting is all about patterns if you have a pattern you can make an item just fill int he slots...you can't do that in WAR..in war you have no idea what your going to get period.   You can't get anymore simple than WoW...WoW's crafting is the epitome of simple crafting its why most hard core crafters went to EQ2 in the beginning.  Theidea that WAR is even a BG on steroisd is even funnier...please...just stop posting Altair...your wasting your time and ours.
