You know, I think its kind of funny that with each new game that comes out the system specs continue to increase and increase, and some players... myself included, that have these aging computers will have to upgrade some things just to stay current,  yet the second someone says the word Console and MMO together, people throw a complete fit.

If more MMOs were created for one single type of system the developers would be able to optimize the game much better, so as not to have to guess if you're running a processor from 2005 or a video card just under specs.  They would know what everyone is running and players wouldn't really be able to complain about performance issues on a machine that can't handle it.

Just a thought.

specs go up as technology increases. years ago we were limited to 1D/2D games.

Name a single 1D game and I will say sorry!

Yeah, this has hit my eye too.... 1D is a line, nothing more :D

Damn it is difficult. I know a dot game , you watch a dot blink.... just kidding.

Thats a great news.

An item shop during a closed beta , pretty desperate if i could say so , though it doesnt surprise me.

I am actually pissed about MMORPG.com "review" of the game because that is what made me go fork out 50 euro to try it just to find out that the game is just as it is described by Ed Zitron.

For example MMMORPG.com claims the gfx are average. In which world is that crappy, severly outdated gfx engine with horrible animations average in the year 2009?

Also the borky controls are not so much mentioned in the "reviews". Nor the crappy way that your backpack organises your stuff (in a clutter of icons). Also the horrible sound that hurt my ears are not mentioned either. I can go on but I think Ed Zitron pretty much describes what is wrong with this game.

The only two good choices , Tetris and Pacman online, were rejected. But seriously you cant turn a good crpg game into an mmorpg, itll just thumb it down and destroy it ,making another generic "fields of monsters" mmorpg game.

There's been no news of the Darkfall US release date. Speculation sets it around the beginning of '09 but no news have come out of the mouths of any developers or staffs. Sure, it's doing fine in Asia on their servers but who says it has to be released at all in the U.S.? They are fine with the profits in Korea and China   Greece alone, so delaying the release for the U.S. for an indefinite time is not that farfetched.

Please look for an alternative now and not be dissapointed when one, two, four, eight months pass by with no news of Aion    Darkfall's release. It is U.S. vaporware.

While no longer technically accurate, still closer to being true than the original post...

PVE Servers would go against the entire main ethos of the game, and so are very very unlikely indeed.

I also treat 'professional' reviews with a grain of salt since it's been proven many times over the last twenty or thirty years that good reviews are less earned and more purchased.  User reviews on the other hand are usually pretty good, though with some titles you have to weed out the fanboys / haters to get actual, good info (this goes with more than just games too).

Mind showing us your "proof"?  I'm pretty sure that's an opinion.  In fact the last time that something along these lines was suggested, just the opposite was true, the review was not what the game developer thought it should be and supposedly put some pressure on the company to get rid of the game reviewer.  I think that's proof that game reviewer's are NOT bought.  At least not all of them.  And this was only a rumor, the company who released the reviewer said the decision had nothing to do with the review he gave.

I'd be willing to bet that professional reviewers are a lot less biased than your average player is.

An exception only confirms the principle.

Voted Atlantica Online , by far the most innovative game of this year, nothing really compers amongst the generic gender.

Haha! You are actually planning to give out awards this year ?

I would just say "2008 MMO awards are canceled due to lack of quality contestans"

But anyway

* Council of Stellar Management (EVE)

I dont know how much "revolutionary" this is. Still EVE is pretty much the only game of quality on the list.

* Combo Combat (Age of Conan)

Are you kidding me? Combo combat in AOC is one of most poorly designed gameplay elements i seen in PC gaming in general , and i am talking last 10 years included. Whoever designed it obviously has no touch with gaming in practical sense. Only potential benefit i would see as some kind of bridge to XBOX version. But we know that will never happen

* Public Quests (Warhammer Online)

Good idea on paper. But never actually play tested. It just doesnt work in practice.
Other quality companies come up with such ideas, playtest them and junk the ones that doesnt work , by dosens.

* Ship Combat (Pirates of the Burning Sea)

When you rip off and steal gameplay mechanic of other game (Sid Meiers Pirates) and actually manage to destroy it and make it 10X times more boring than the original - that amazing feat does indeed deserve award , just not this kind of award.

Perhaps you should rename the contest into : 08 Most failed feature

QFT And yeah "Most failed feature" would be a better choice of words.
The only game with some good story , good quests and d&d which is way better then any mmorpg except the skill based ones like UO and rip wish online. Yeah stay away from this game if you like brainless repetitive games that most of the other mmorpgs are. But if you like good storyline and meaningful quests and something that is deeper then the usual primitive mmorpg gender go right ahead. The game has its drawbacks , its short but its much better being short then being one of the do 12k quests of type "Bring me 12 pristine boar tusks".DDO is a very good exception amongst the primitive gender which relies on either grinding or poor mans pseudo questing amongst vast fields of clueless wondering monsters , big maps unlogical filled with monsters with few nods for quest gathering. And people wonder why every new mmorpg is a failure .
Gimme a break , are you some kind of low lifes locked in their basements to whine about a 300 hours limit.Seriously that's playing 10 hours a day for 30 days in a row.Even if you are a kiddie with on life you shouldn't be playing that long , its bad for your health
Looks interesting.
Personally i don't buy games that don't offer a "true" open beta or a trial.I didn't buy vanguard and AoC because of that and that was a good choice.Nowadays every new over hyped mmorpg that's supposed to be a revolution /new quality turns out to be the same old fried again cutlet , its not really worth buying those things blindly.
You know this stuff is under NDA.
Close to 2 years. Im really expcting it to be the first tactical space sim after darkspace.

Got mine , thanks Mirage.

Edit:Same message here but i can login into the webpage and the account status is active so you shouldnt worry.

BT might have a semi usless skill but her standart attack is great. She is way better then a viking. Viking becomes useless at 50+
Thanks mmorpg and gratz to all the other winners.
