EVE Online: Inferno Launch Interview
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/24/12 3:39:28 PM
Originally posted by Jakuza Always good to keep an eye on the forums while sifting through all the crap posts. As I stated above "Is everything rosy? Not in the least, but for me it has always been about trust." the unified inventory issue will be a good test to see if CCP is listening or not. It appears that they are judging by recent posts from the devs. I decided to create a trial account and chat with old corp mates before resubbing and I have got to tell you that I did not hear any complimentary words coming from my old mates concerning the new unified inventory. =P Over all though they seemed to be more that supportive of the expansion. Time will tell. |

EVE Online: Inferno Launch Interview
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/23/12 12:14:51 PM
As one of those old accounts that voted with my "pocket book" during Monacle Gate, the leak of the internal company newsletter, along with the amazingly pigheaded response by the ceo about how to read the player base, I have got to say current events in Eve look promising. It looks to me they are making good on recent promises. Is everything rosy? Not in the least, but for me it has always been about trust. In a game like Eve, and after you invest literally years of subscription fees, not to mention time, having faith in the direction the game is being steered is all important. Yep it looks promising. May just have to take a closer look here soon and see how the old crew is doing. Or instead of getting caught up in all the old crap, have some fun while testing out the faction warfare for the first time :) Nice interview...thank you

Wow man…just wow.
What is with all the incivility? State your case with reason as best you can while continuing the debate. I have concerns, and I will state my case and move on. In retrospect I wish I had not posted in this public forum at all. Frustration got the best of me pure and simple. But we were pushed off into this venue so here we are.
Now with some of the content in this thread in mind I want to address the game play itself. Putting aside some communication improvements that are drastically needed from my perspective, the playability of the game is not a 1 out of 10, it is not terrible by a long shot. It is an awesome game in which I have enjoyed many hours. I lasted two months in a recent AAA game before being bored to tears. The story, the story! Well when you finish a good book you put it down and move on. This game however, along with the overall community, has been an amazing adventure. Does it need improvements? Absolutely! Can it better serve its player base? Without a doubt! But so can every other game in the market. Having said that Trion with Rift is about the best I have ever seen. But I understand our game does not have that kind of staff NOR the restrictive nature of investors to squelch the creativity potential of the game. In this instance, and in my opinion, the response was just not adequate so I called it as I see it and hope for the best.

Folks it pains me to say this but:
Up to this point I have been appreciative of the laid back easy going nature of Wurm. I love the game, and for the most part, the development approach used to create it. But at this point I feel the "no worries be happy" approach has not served the player base very well at this juncture. It was hours, and I mean hours after the threat was identified and action was taken. Hundreds, if not thousands, of players needlessly exposed to the threat embedded in the support system of our game. I am disheartened at the lack of a timely response, and in my opinion a very weak and "laid back" response by the developer. No proactive nature to it. Deal with it is all I have heard with a great big smile on his face. The most, and best, information we have received has been by volunteer GMs that seem to care more for the player base than apparently the developer does. May be harsh but I am left with this feeling based on what I have observed so far.
This morning I can not sign into the game. My hard drive went nuts when I tried to log in. This is the first time I have had this amount of seeking and searching with the hard drive sounding like an elephant stampede. I have deleted the files as instructed once and was able to get into the game last night. I am reluctant to so again with my limited understanding of how this Blackhole Virus works. As a matter of fact, even after scanning repeatedly with BitDefender 2012 with the results being no infected files, I am reluctant to do anything of import with my PC. As it currently stands the launcher will not update. The launcher has taken in excess of 3 minutes of run time before the Wurm startup panel even displays. Not normal from my experience with the game.
Bottom line for me, after having my game access severely limited over the last couple of days, along with NO comprehensive informational support coming from the developer, I am not even going to attempt it until I know things are resolved. Should we use the Java console to log into the game? Would it be best to only launch from the web page? Would it be better to delete the entire game and start over? What was the threat really, how was it delivered, and to whom, and under what circumstances? Was everyone that connected actually infected? What is the most current version of the game we should expect to see? I did delete the graphics Jar and used the Java tool to down load the new files. After that I used the “new” web link “Play Now” button to be sure and two more files were changed. May be normal for more files to be changed but I really have never used a Java based game until now so I am unsure and concerned. The lack of information, direction, and support leave me feeling very vulnerable and more than a little upset.
To be clear also I am sure as hell not willing to wait patiently “as things get sorted over the next couple of weeks.” My attitude would change if I had at least a little inkling that the developer was as concerned as we are about this issue. Shutting down the forums, wiki, and web site in general was too little too late to qualify as a competent, customer centric response.
If anyone has a link to a comprehensive article that addresses our gaming environment, or several articles to be taken in conjunction with each other please post it or PM me on this forum. I will be glad to do more research and make an informed decision on how to proceed.
Here is hoping things get resolved in an acceptable fashion within a respectable time frame.

Wurm Online: The Official Wurm Review
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/31/12 4:31:02 PM
My wife and I were chomping at the bit for the recent release of a big AAA but for various reasons became disenchanted and shut our computers off with disgust this last weekend. On a whim I decided to visit Wurmonline and check it out. Ya know to be honest, I just to not understand why….but my wife and I have just spent the last weekend “literally” immersed in Wurm. This game is about as far from “polish” as you can get. For all the reasons mentioned in this fine article that I see no reason to repeat. But we have been sucked right past the “unfinished” and infuriating parts of the game, deep into the undeniable beauty of the game. Maybe we were lucky, but we have found a great village to be part of right off the forums. And now we are off and running loving the game, enjoying the community, and looking right past the clunky animations while we are being sucked into the world waiting to be explored. Exploration, survival, independence, and yanking that “themepark” ring out of my nose have been an amazing treat this weekend. Will it last? To be honest I do not know. But for now, after this weekends experience, we have canceled our sub to the AAA game, and jumped unashamedly into the adventure called Wurm with the modest premium fee. The only reason we put up the fee was in a show of support for the Wurm team. We will see what we can create. :) |

Pathfinder online (sandbox game): First dev blog.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 12/09/11 1:26:33 AM
I think they are being extremely intelligent in their approach. Are they going to try to be all things to all people? Hell no! Are they going to limit themselves like letting someone like EA take the reins and demand certain concepts and design steps in the game? I sure as hell hope not! Are they going to build this game under a mountain of debt that would require them to take “the safe road” in game design? Apparently not!
I wish them the best of luck in this endeavor. We all know they will need it, and will need some support in the process. Or we just settle for another themepark/big publisher MMO.

General: The No Elves Manifesto
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 12/07/11 5:35:15 PM
As I look at new games I must confess, if Elves/Orcs/Magic/Run of the mill dominant storyline, are the foundation for the game...I can not stomach to the thought of it. Not to say I am negative about my LoTRO account, although I do not play it currently. Nor any other game I have delved into. But there is NO draw when looking at any game I have not played yet containing the above items. To be more precise, as eluded to above, any inclusion of said items/storyline focus causes me to shutdown immediately. I will not/can not download the game and even give it a try. |

EVE Online: Kristoffer "CCP Soundwave" Touborg Interview
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/15/11 1:52:14 PM
I understand you thoughts and feelings on this one mate. It is underwhelming to be sure. CCP created the expectation and has not delivered. I just do not put as much "value" on this idea as you do is all. Although I was a "Founder" in Earth and Beyond and I have got to say I loved the station environment :) And as far as "that after all these years of development time, this is all they could deliver"? From my perspective? I am convinced that their "purpose" in investing this development time into EVE was to support their other projects, as much if not more so, than upgrading EVE. Their right to do so, and in the end may prove to be a very sound decision. But it has more to do, I think, with creating a platform CCP can use in other games. Like their vampire game for one, what ever it is called, as much as it is giving EVE a needed face lift. Once again companies decide to ignore important improvements on existing games to maximize profits by creating new products to sell instead of delivering "promised" quality in the existing game. I could be all wet on this but it sure seems to hold water given what I have observed. But who really knows besides CCP. |

EVE Online: Kristoffer "CCP Soundwave" Touborg Interview
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 7/15/11 12:22:35 PM
From my perspective: Incarna? A waste of time and energy when things this like ship balancing should be front and center. What is there to like about this post? Well I for one have canceled all my accounts. One has been in place since late 2004 approx. My wife and I both play with two account each because we like to do it all in a VERY competitive universe :) Or to be more precise, we used to do it all. Now we have not biomassed our characters, and our assets are still intact so we are going to watch the game to see if direction changes or becomes more solidified. However I am not holding my breath, I am cutting my losses and moving on at this point. Look I find this article to actually be a very, very good piece. It represents a side of CCP Soundwave I guess I have not payed attention to, or just did not appreciate. The bottom line is this guy, as the first poster said, HAS said exactly what I want to hear "I would have loved to just copy paste “GOLD AMMMO GETS INTO EVE WHEN IT’S TAKEN FROM MY COLD, DEAD HANDS” everywhere." Only problem is, and this is supported by the fact he was not allowed to say this, is that I do NOT believe CCP Soundwaves opinion represents the upper management of EVE. Competitive game?? Damn right it is and many of us have invested YEARS of monthly fees, not to mention the hours of effort to get ahead in this sandbox. The rules were placed by CCP from the start and gold ammo, ships, aka: balance disrupting items, would be a game changing move that I WILL not pay to be part of. Nor will I keep paying to just have them implement "gold ammo" in the future to make a buck and shoot the majority of the pilots in the perverbial foot while doing so! Once again...just my opinion. One other note about "balancing" they should look at. The whole three zone thing is a complete joke! High Security space?? BS! I say! Only thing high securtiy about it is that it gives large corps a chance to gank thousands of pilots that do not want anything to do with null sec. And they can do so without having to worry about getting ganked by other pilots while they are busy "ganking" new players that are defensless. How? By using CCP's mechanics that is how. Want to give new pilots a chance to enjoy the game and get a foot hold in EVE universe? Get those "null sec wanabes" off the new players backs. To easy to make money? BS again! unless you are a major null sec entity that can farm tech moons. Sheesh if it is high security space make it HIGH SECURITY SPACE! If you have to much high security then make the amount of high security space more limited...a total joke...and once again...just my opinion. |
