EQNext will be cancelled, Landmark will be canceled. H1Z1 will be their bread and butter.

You have read it here first. Just wait and see...

I definitely agree with this, EQN I feel is never going to see the light of day. I think they will take what they can toward another project but I doubt we will see anything remotely close to what it was originally promising. H1Z1 is looking to be their main focus for now and while I think its utter trash as a game it seems to have built itself a decent player base on Steam. It has been consistently in the top 20 most played games for weeks now no doubt thanks to streamers plugging it like its the next DayZ.

  2. You sell these items for credits ingame
  3. You buy high-end crafted items (armor etc) with in-game credits
  4. You have gained an advantage over your fellow players with your RL money...
Yea, thats Pay2Win to me.

You can buy at best three tiers behind the BIS gear and not every slot. I know plenty of people who spend big in the cash shop, they do it for the cosmetics and mounts. Bragging rights, because they're all already top tier raiders, so they don't need to buy gear.

The point is that if you are willing to spend RL money, you can get better gear without actualy do the ops-grinds.

It the items would have been no-trade, it would have been another story.

No, you can't get competitive raid level or pvp gear through the cartel market.

Using phrases like "better gear" is nothing but a semantic trick, "better" is relative, depending on who you are better can be a hood instead of headgear or a different color, the proper word is competitive. The gear itself is not going to give you any kind of edge or will it be better then what is dropped from current endgame Ops or pvp.

Loot was never really that important a factor for me when I was knee deep in WoW raiding, what I enjoyed was the team work and strategy that went into downing bosses that kept me coming back. The loot was never an issue for me because it came and went like the setting sun with each new raid, loot was a byproduct of just putting in the time and so I never put much value in it.

If it wasn't for Kotor I wouldn't even care about Star Wars at all. The prequel movies were absolutely garbage and the originals were ok until I became a teenager and realized just how tame and uninteresting they were.  Kotor and the timeline created by Bioware will always be the real canon for me because they at least made something out of the universe that was stagnating under Lucas; once the Old Republic goes I am pretty much done with SW.
Wow this is turning out to be more then I thought. If Planetside 2 is seeing layoffs as well the future of this company looks like it might be looking to turn to a whole new direction.

EQ next will still go on. I knew someone would make a topic like this. Is it a big loss? yes but there is no way EQ NEXT is going to be cancelled.

I hope you are correct. I don't share your optimism though, not at this point.

Not optimism but common sense? Cancel EQNEXT and then do what? make apps for android? makes no sense to cancel the most anticipated title.

You forget the company wasn't bought by a gaming company, but by an investment firm. They DO NOT care about games, they saw something worth something they can exploit (probably SoEmote or something) and will salvage the tech they need for their other projects and leave the rest to rot.

Or worse, they simply bought the company to make their own stocks go up and have no plans to do anything with SoE lol...

I'm going to have to concur with this, if anything SOE may have been more desperate then they had led people to believe and did what any company would do to survive. We have no idea the real current state of EQ Next but if Landmark is anything to go by the game probably isn't even close to the beta stage and is just eating up funding at this point. Of course this is all speculation on my part but come on, this is pretty typical in the business world sometimes you bat a home run and other times you just don't make it to home plate.

Definitely sad news but honestly I was never that excited with what they have shown with Landmark and EQ Next. Both games reek of nothing but "ideas" and with a questionable ability to execute on those ideas. Voxels, dynamic questing and destructibility in online games has always had issues that I have little confidence they can pull off. The engine Landmark uses is an absolute mess right now even with only 5-10 people on the shard, this game would be unplayable with hundreds of players and dynamic AI running around fighting. I think they have bitten off more then they can chew at this point and I don't think this game is going to even come close to its original vision.

I'm personally having a great time with this game, made it to 50 in about 90 hours and already 2 world bosses away from finishing my Genetic Archives attunement. I really love the content they have created thus far and have no doubt that what they are bringing with the upcoming patch will be just as good.

I really was skeptical about this game until I hit around level 25, once I starting getting deeper into the ability points and started to see what the combat system is capable of I can't see myself playing a different MMO anytime soon. I really feel Carbine should be commended for what they have done even with the faults, its an amazing overall package that its a shame to see it have such a negative following in the industry.

I have faith that this game will turn around with proper care but if there is one thing they desperately need to look into is way more solo/casual content for people at level 50 and hopefully with this patch they will do just that.

Having just started playing this game (just hit lvl 41) I think if this game was to fail at this point I will probably call it quits on MMOs for good. The decisions being made by developers and publishers these days are so brainless and mind boggling its amazing they even made it through development. Its almost a crime that so many amazing artists will literally watch their canvases collapse into rubble.

Even with all its problems there is so much to like about Wildstar and there is so much potential for the future but at this point it almost looks like a self-fulfilling prophecy is in the making with developers leaving and fixes well over a month away. I really adore the lore and think it has some of the most beautiful art ever put into a game but it looks like its just dug too deep a hole to climb out of.

Really sad to hear about Wildstar, I still want to experience what the game has to offer but hearing the population problems are getting worse I just have a hard time convincing myself that it will be worth the 60 bucks. Unlike others I actually love the art style of this game, the animatons on the Chua are pretty amazing and overall the world looks really worth exploring. Hopefully Carbine gets their act together and comes up with solutions quick because I really want to see this game work out and not become another MMO casualty.

ME2 is easily my favorite game of all time, best RPG of its generation? definitely not. I think Witcher 2 and Dragon Age were better RPGs but ME2 definitely delivers the best set of characters and story combination I have played to date.

I've definitely tried to love GW2 but I have many of the same issues with it that others have discussed, I just don't feel immersed in this game, the world itself just feels like a big playground. While I do have some issues with the combat (I feel its way too floaty and lacks impact) it works and makes the fights at least more mobile giving you a little more freedom then your typical tab target mmo.

I think the magic was lost for me when I discovered that people would just grind the exact same events over and over again to level and that these "dynamic" events aren't really so dynamic at all. For a large majority of the events I came across people knew to the second when it would repeat, kill everything in seconds, move to phase 2-3 etc... and wouldn't do anything else leaving the rest of the map vacant because its more efficient to stay there and grind. The highest level I have reached is in the 60s so my experience with the game is limited but every time I sit down to take a serious shot at GW2 I find myself hitting the same wall.

Really can't believe the author thought the space combat wasn't up to par as it is the one thing that brought many to the game from the start. This isn't space invaders where you one shot things lol.  There is stragety needed to make the most of your attacks and just pounding the fire button isn't it.  Your ship build and Duty officers placement can make a big difference also, odd nothing was said about the whole Duty officer missions and play.

Basically nothing was said about most of the game such as PvP, the many and varied story line missions, Duty Officers, the many and varied ways you can advance (including just doing Duty Officer missions), that it makes me wonder if the author really actually played the game or just did the few things for a review.  A 74 rating for this game is beyond unfair in my opinion and I don't think the crowds that play the game would agree to that either or the many Fleets(guilds)  throughout the galaxy with their holdings of Starbases, mining and other fleet holdings...odd that wasn't mentioned either.  One has to wonder if the author ever grouped or talked to any who were playing this game.

This review really is seriously lacking for people that actually understand this game from top to bottom and understand all the systems. Not a single instance talking about the PvP, how on earth is traveling problematic in this game when you can transwarp everywhere with the little icon to the right of the missions description and can even lower the cooldown on your Spacedock/Qonos transwarp with duty officers.

"As always, there was one uber-ship that seemed to take forever to finally kill…and my fingers told the tale. Ed. Note: Yes, I utilized auto-fire but that didn't help either. There always had to be at least one or two fingers on the keyboard or the mouse."

Lol what? are you telling me you play MMOs with a controller or something because every single MMO ever required using at least 1 or 2 fingers on the keyboard or mouse just to move (WASD to move ring a bell?). The reason the Uber-ship takes forever to kill is probably the way you set up your bridge officer skills or your captain skills and talents, did you get any feedback from other players or ask for help on how to build your particular role?

Essential skills for just about every captain: Tactical Teams, Attack Patterns (if your going for damage), Hazard Emitters for clearing plasma and damaging debuffs. Emergency Power to Shields and Weapons, Transfer Shield Strength and Auxiliary to Structural which can repair your ship and other players. There are so many essential things that go into combat that you will never experience until you hit the endgame where using the wrong build is essentially suicide against tactical cubes or bastion voth ships.

Don't even get me started on the part where you said you didn't feel like a captain, there is a system in the game which literally lets you issue orders to hundreds of your officers. The system itself is beyond complex and there are so many things you would never understand about its importance without actually researching it or asking players about. For people that play they will know these right away:

nadorc, fed and kdf support missions for very rare duty officers, resettle colonists so you can start the fortifying colony missions for very rare doffs, trafficking contraband missions and inspect civilian freighters so you can stack the contraband. flight deck officer missions, asylum missions for refugees, devonite and shapeshifting locket missions for nadorc so that you can get the alien artifacts which can be used for mk 12 consoles.

It is absolutely painful how much this review misses and I haven't even scratched the surface yet with what is needed to truly understand the complexity and fun you can get from this game. This game gives trekkies everything they could ask for. There is so much fan service and lore that I am still finding things years into playing it that pay homage to even the most obscure episodes of every series.

They have literally made entire enemy races out of aliens that showed up in only 1 or 2 episodes or movies (Hirogen, Voth, Elachi, Solanae, Species 8472 and Remans).
Ignore, my post pretty much mirrored other responses.

The animations are closer to a game made in the early 2000s then a game made in the last 3 years and that says it all. I felt like I was transported back in time to 1999 Everquest days, while the game itself is looking decent in most other departments the animations are definitely lacking. The running and bow animations being the biggest offenders in my book, there needs to be some variety in the running at the very least, look to GW2 for inspiration because if that game has anything its great animation quality.
To be honest 150 hours is actually pretty common by MMO standards, last time I leveled a character in a game (Swtor) it took about 6 days 7 hours and 23 minutes of play time to hit 50. In WoW I hit cap much quicker coming out at about 3 days and change, leveling in that game is so quick you out level almost every zone especially in heirloom gear. So all in all the amount of leveling content is looking to be pretty much on par for a typical MMO these days.

I seriously can't understand why people would want to go back to a system like this at all, It was completely inefficient and an absolute waste of time. To me this is the equivalent of saying "To hell with cell phones because its just too damn convenient, lets all go back to land lines... no wait! lets go even further because it takes the face to face contact out of communicating, we should get rid of phones all together so we can force people to talk to one another" lol.

Why would you get rid of a system that works and is a direct evolution of that kind of tired, tedious system? There was a reason that global AHs were created in the first place because people wanted to actually play the game and not stand around for hours spamming chat channels or going to websites to sell the most basic crap. I don't have time for that kind of nonsense, even in games with this system (Eve Online) you at least have a legitimate reason for it because about 90% of all items are created by players and cannot be found from drops from killing enemies.

Yes, the game begins at endgame. The reason why because that is where you are going to spend the majority of your time unless your one of those Alt-itis people who just can't get one character to max. At most you will spend probably 50-75 hours leveling to max level which is pretty much standard at this point with modern MMOs. You will spend thousands of hours in endgame, thousands.... Why on earth should those 50-75 hours leveling be anything more then just story/lore filler and learning the fundamental mechanics of the game for the challenge that comes with endgame? I don't understand the mentality at all when people want everything midgame and it screams to me just how lazy that player is when they try to make that argument. They don't want to work for the good stuff, they don't want to dedicate the time it takes to master the game they just want everything now and with zero effort.

The true challenge with MMOs comes with overcoming the main villians in epic battles and most MMOs are correct in leaving the most dangerous enemies and greatest rewards for the endgame, how stupid would it be if you get to kill the main enemy in the middle of your leveling journey or get the best gear? its just nonsensical.
