I have mixed opinions of WoW it's a good game but I just can't seem to get into it and stay into it. the graphics kill it for me and make it pretty unbearable. I've been playing since vanilla WoW on and off. I usually see a new expansion and end up buying it, play it for awhile and then cancel sub.

You, me and about 2 or 3 million other's

It's not just the journal. It's all the entire lore dabase that needs to be downloaded. The extra UI code, etc.

Tho, if they can just make Grimoire accessible ingame from Bungie.net, it won't take up extra Space, as you are online anyway.

But who knows. Maybe they already have this in the pipeline.

I think this is what People completely forgetting. This is just the start. They going to treat this game as an MMO, with frequent and contineous updates.

People just think it's another console game like CoD, BF or Halo, where a couple DLC's get released and that's it. Then we wait for Version 2 and start over again. Etc.

And that is the main problem with these reviewers and how they don't understand the game at all.

Insane isn't it.

These reviewer's they all need to be indoctrinated.

LOL!!!

Ok, ok, ok. I'll settle for something in-game. Don't be all like *bleep bleep, you've got a Grimoire, please go to bungie.net!"

Ooooooooo, here's an idea, Bungie! How about creating a companion app that allows me to read all my Grimoires on my tablet? You know, cuz let's be honest, I'm not going to stop playing so I can hop onto Bungie and read. That's ridiculous, I just killed some big massive monster and now, for some downtime I'm going to go do some light reading? Hell no! I'm gonna /dance!

At least with games like Mass Effect, I had the in-game journal thingie. that would work too, but a companion app would be real nice.

The tablet version is coming. Tho Bungie.net Works great on tablet too. Or just install the phone Version for the time being.

That you don't have an ingame journal, keeps the game install light. Destiny is only 21GB this way. Otherwise you could have added another 10-20GB on extra data to be downloaded / installed. Now they can use all that free space to add actual content, without having the hardrive filling up like crazy.

Not to mention that it increases load on CPU/RAM and increases the amount of bugs and issues.

And be honest. How many People actually spend time ingame reading lore? I never did. I usually did it after a play session when I'm done playing. Then I can just as well do it on my PC, phone or tablet.

The Destiny Companion App is fantastic! Hands down the best Companion App for a game at the moment.

WOW! 10-21gb just for a journal.... Crazy!  Must be the biggest game ever made. Not to mention it will load my CPU... double Crazy!

If professional game reviewer's are all paid off by the game publisher's... I wonder how bad the game really is

And that my friend, is the business model.

Sensible consumer would take the console business model any day when compared to the garbage the PC MMO industry is doing -

????

I'm not rushing to any kind of a judgment, The playtime-per-dollar will tell the tale.

What the heck does it have to do with PC-vs Console? A bad business model is a bad business model, and by bad I'm talking for the consumer.

So, a Console game charges to expand content beyond the orginal release, and that is seen as bad. PC MMOs charge a monthly fee and charge for expansions, and that is seen as the good part of the genre?

Like putting words in peoples mouths much?

I stand by my statement.

What the hell does PC vs Console have to do with it?

ps I like my games be they PC, Console or Table Top... except for Head Games of course

You are claiming it is a bad business model. When compared to other business models in the gaming business, I don't see a downside. I play MTG. I can't get new cards without paying for them.

Reading comprehension 101

Please highlight where I claimed it was a bad business model.

There ya go

You think that just maybe... that was a response to BadSpock's highlighted statement and my retort was that gaming device has no bearing on whether the business model is bad (or good for that matter)

I don't have a problem with the business model either. It's my favorite to be honest, but it looks spendy to me. Note that the business model doesn't change when it goes on sale, just the price and the value of the playtime.

I see full price games for either the impatient or for those game releases where you've been waiting for this very thing and it's pretty much your personal best game ever. Maybe this is the best game ever for some people like the guy I quoted in my first post who doesn't have a lot of time to invest in games and wants something easy and simple to jump into. That still won't get me paying full price for it. Hahaha

I agree:

It can be a good business model and it also can be a bad one, It depends on what your being delivered (quantity and/or quality)

Milage may vary

Activision being the publisher with Destiny, leaves me skeptical in the quantity department.

It's funny how some people will get their panties in a bunch and start a stupid, dumb, useless Console vs PC debate.  The most important processor is the one that's between our ears.

I found this review on Ars Technica, Destiny: It's a Small World, to be informative. It sounds like the game is trying to be a lot to a diverse crowd and not providing a sound experience for any of them. It also appears to be small and short for what they're charging and a constant stream of DLC flesh out the game sounds expensive.

One upvoted comment summarizes it like this, "It's an MMOFPS for adults who don't have 30-40hrs a week to pour into a game." Personally, I think both Firefall and Defiance, not to mention Planetside 2 which I haven't played, have a lot to offer and don't require a 30 hour plus commitment.

If it comes to PC a year or two from now and has a good Steam sale, then maybe. I think Borderlands 2 is more my speed though.

"Reviews" like that give me zero faith in the gaming community at large.

Total garbage!

Some of their points are flat out wrong and show they only skimmed the surface and rushed to print in order to get the page clicks.

For example, the class/sub-class variety is incredibly deep.

I've almost fully fleshed out my first sub class (Striker) and am only about 1/2 way through the other (Defender) and the differences in abilities and how they then relate to play style and solo versus group co-op support etc. is astounding.

Destiny has more MMO in it than any of these so called reviews are giving it credit for - because the reviewers aren't there yet in the game - respectable sites DELAY the release of their review on MMOs because it does take so much time to delve deep into them.

Kudos to MMORPG.com for doing a staged, lengthy review process.

So it opens up after level 30 lol? No need to get all defensive. I just found the article informative.

Modern arpgs have procedurally generated maps and dungeons. They have ways to make repeating the content interesting. That is the single biggest key for an argp. Most arpgs take longer than 8 - 12 hours to complete and have more than 4 maps too. How is replay value going to work? Are they going to rely on continually selling DLC? The game already costs a premium.

How are the classes diverse and lend to differing game play? Do the three classes play radically different and how so?

And that my friend, is the business model.

It's possible he is a hypocrite.

Then again, it's possible that he just learned a valuable lesson.

Like when you are young and you claim that you will always do this ... and never do that .... (fill in the blanks) and then you grow up and you find yourself not doing this and always doing that.

When faced with such a large sum of money that can enable you to do so many things. Some good things I imagine (not just for yourself) suddenly the perspective changes.

Then again, he might very well be a hypocrite.

In what way is Destiny not "massive".

"Content"? It is still opening up.

People? The old interaction thing? Outside of hubs you see more people than you do in many "mmos". And as far as hub areas go in WoW people mostly only interact with a) their guild b) semi-interact with people they are put with to complete a scenario / dungeon / raid.

There is a discussion that could be had about how easy Bungie have made said interaction. Different issue though.

Massive budget perhaps

When we look back in history, I believe the spirit of the term "massive" was in defining the amount of concurrent players you interact with in real time during regular gameplay.

Now some might like to twist the term to include lobbies, amount of content, map size (zone size) and such, but these type's of dynamic's existed at the time the term was coined and to the best of my knowledge were not included in the definition.

When I played my first MMO, many moons ago the term definitely meant that you could and would be playing with hundred's of people in a single game world at the same time. Your FPS was definitely wanting.

Feel free to disagree

Not surprising as they advertised the heck out of this game on national TV over the last month or so.

In response to an earlier post about MMOs being popular on consoles, I want to say that I highly doubt anyone on this site really believes or believed that this wasn't the case, but the question I have to pose is whether this justifies leaving PC gaming behind altogether as a result.  Frankly, I never saw consoles as competition for the PC platform and vice versa.  I see no reason to drop PCs as a viable MMO platform just because you can get greater numbers on consoles.  There is every reason to appeal to both simultaneously.

Think it has more to do with focusing all resources on the uniformed console hardware to get the best out of the consoles and make a smooth optimized game that wont have problems like most mmos that have come out on PC.  Age of Conan, ESO, Vanguard, heck even WoW had big problems when it was released.

You know what the biggest piece of bullshit is when it comes to consoles? Its all the proprietary crap, totally wasting resources making different versions of the same game for different operating systems, when those resources could be spent on making a better game.

These systems are all physically the same, It's the operating systems that are different.

The money for all these games comes from us, the consumer.  I want to pay for a bloody game, not exclusivity rights. And that is what is fail on all the consoles.

I hope the Steam box might change this... run the operating system and games on anything except your PS, XB and Wii

If this is a subliminal dig at the fact that Destiny is not on PC, lets not all spontaniously forget that the majority of those gamers are playing farmville type browser games or solitare. There is no disputing that "PC gaming" on the whole is huge.....the audiance for a Destiny type game compared to consoles, not so much.

Look at Call of Duty MW2 for instance:

Consoles: 23.65 Million Sold

PC: 0.83 Million Sold

Borderlands 2

Consoles: 4.66 Million

PC: 0.72 Million.

(Some extra food for thought, the PS Vita version of borderlands 2 sold as many copies as Defiance on PC)

Compare the platform sales for pretty much every multi plat shooter in the last 5-6 years, the numbers speak for themselves.

Those games are ported over to PC, they're made for Consoles.  Over 100 million have played WoW, it's PC only. over 34 million have GTA5, which was console only.

If you want to go by numbers, 4 of the top 5 best selling games of all time are by Nintendo (Minecraft being the only one not Nintendo, and most play Minecraft on PC).  So the Wii is the best console ever.

PC has a much much much larger potential market, simply because there are more PC's than consoles, and most console owners also have a PC.  There was a post a few months back with an article about that, but I'm too lazy and lunch is almost over for me to go find it lol.

Stop trying to turn this into something stupid like "derp, that means you must think Wii is the best console ever".....

All I am saying (and have proven), is multi plat shooters (ie: games like Destiny....), sell butt loads more on console than they do on PC now-a-days...that is all, nothting more, nothing less......do you really blame bungie for putting those extra resources to getting the console versions to the best state they coule possibly be, as opposed to porting to PC?

By your own words

People complain that Bungie not porting Destiny to PC is a bad move....I show proof that it was worth their while to spend resources improving the console versions instead of spending resources on a PC port, seeing as that is prob where the VAST majority of copies would have been sold.....I am then responded with "you must think the Wii is the best thing ever"....yet IM the one talking stupid?

Got it.

What in the world does the topic have to do with Destiny?

The topic is is about 37% of the U.S. population playing PC games of one sort or another. If my 87 year old Mother were American and not Canadian  she would be counted as she bought her first PC and started PC gaming 2 years ago. The only reason she bought a PC was for games and the only type of games she plays are single player Slot Machine games.
