I truely see it the opposite of OP. I play EVE way more casually then i ever played a themepark and still feel like im progressing at a really good pace. Sandboxes get a really bad rap for being time wasters where themeparks are just as bad or EVEN worse in my case.

If I was busy with a family EVE would be the game I would still be playing while all themepark games would get uninstalled due to there addictiveness.

Anyways good article and I hope alot of people try Earthrise and support it as we need more scifi sandboxes to play in.

I agree that this game is extremly unoriginal. But i believe it will do well b/c it has that addictive feel that WoW has. That ultra easy relaxed casual grind for blue and purple carrots that I feel no game has captured as well as WoW until now.

Unfortunantly this is the LAST thing I want in a game so after getting a character to level 20 i uninstalled and will not be coming back.

I bought this game for 10 bucks and only taking in account play hours per dollar value i have no doubt this is top on the list for me. Sure I have played games for more time then GA but none of them have been as good a value as GA. I look foward to giving them more money when the paid expansion comes out.

O yeah and I agree about the community it is awful however there are some great agencies to join like OTG which have nice friendly communities.

WoW: Server stability issues abound, broken quest, broken AI, Broken raids, crashes, severs down for weeks

AoC: Fall through the world bug, game crash, broken quest, broken AI, Broken territory control mechanics, and a host of exploits

EvE:  Did not play at launch

WAR: Stability issues abound espeically with more than 20 people on the screen. But the game as a whole just sucked

Even though it was not launch i would like to point out that an EVE patch literally BROKE peoples computers. That is by far the biggest fail in mmorpg history and no one will pass it.....games could only hope to match the fail.

I wish i could try this game but it took 3 days to download and now my verified account name and password wont work :(

Good list. No complaints here. I am a big fan of a robust crafting system. If there is nothing really to learn though i usually just skip it in a game unless it is a necessary evil like in DDO.

O yeah and worst crafting system ever.....DDO

Last point- I think perpetuum should be number 8 on this list.

This might not last but at least for now, there's a bit of camaraderie between the players.  I've been in numerous raids where  we just rode across the zone saving little quest hubs, closing rifts, destroying footholds, etc.  All the while, absorbing new raids into the fold until we ultimately finished what we set out to do. 

gear didn't matter, dps didn't matter, achievements don't matter, loot didn't matter. 

like i said before, it might wear off but for now it is miles ahead of wow mainly because of the community.

Its funny how you say it MIGHT wear off. Of coarse its going to wear off. I have been part of the MMO community for to long to have faith that one day people would work together for more then just a chance at a purple or blue carrot.

If you think Aion is "hardcore" then maybe try to get a beta key and give Rift a shot.

People in global agenda told me this game was awful. Thats when i knew i had to try it.

Unfortunently the torrent is so slow that after 2 days its still not downloaded.

Most people don't say rift is bad and it certainly is unoriginal. But if you enjoy it then have fun man.

A lot of people don't like EVE online but i love it....but you don't see me making threads like these.

I dont know....this f2p just doesn't seem....right.

DDO got me to play and i spent about 50 bucks on the game after it went f2p. It just felt right and I felt like i was getting my monies worth...paying 50 bucks and playing the game for a year seemed like a bargain.

The CO f2p model just seems off to me and I wont be playing it.

I read a couple of replys where they said it was "to different". Isnt that what everybody is crying for, something different?

Some people complained it was to group forced and they couldn't solo, then another says it was solo and they couldn't group.

People wants something new and different but if they get it they'll still run back to their old mmo's and faceroll the keyboard while they chat about how awesome a game player they are. Bottom line is there was too much work and not enough people to show off their wares.

First off AoC is ultra easy.

Secondly the game was unplayable at launch and Funcom did not come through on a lot of promises (ie player housing was suppose to be there from the start...but there still is not player housing). It  is perfectly reasonable for a customer not to want to partake in a product that is built on lies and broken content

Thirdly this game is cookie cutter as hell when it comes to mmo's.

Aoc is not new or different. And you are right AoC has way to much WORK and that is the problem. RotGS is pure grind hell.

I stopped playing because RotGS is just not constructed to be fun imo. They decided not to mask the grind at all and put it on the surface, And i think this was the wrong move as I never wanted to log on and play. However the content before RotGS was fine and i had fun playing it.

I thought the same thing as you OP when i first got into the game, but after a month i was bored out of my mind and left.....and I have played EVE for years now so it takes a lot for me to get bored.

And yes I was in a big corp that was very active in pvp, mining, manufacturing and pve. So I experienced it all and quickly got bored.

I look at the companies behind the big games coming out and I am a little more optimistic then 2010.

Bioware and Arena-net are great companies...and while probably not being for everyone these games i think will at least be fairly stable when they are released.
