Would I like this?

I ask because from the few vids I've seen, there seem to be a couple things that cause me to reconsider.

1. No healers. The one part of the trinity I enjoy most. I suppose strategy later in the game will push certain players into more support roles as opposed to zerging encounters each doing their own thing, so this might be ok.

2. No raids. Getting a guild together for a planned event with a group is a big part of any MMO for me. Is there anything like this in the game?

3. Twitch gaming. From the few bits of gameplay I've seen, this seems to be a big thing. I'd never roll a thief in any RPG and don't like PvP in most games.

Bonus question: If I am going to get the game, what class would be best suited based on the above?

Going by what you have put here I can honestly say No GW2 is not for you.

Wow it's amazing how fast they are putting new items in the station cash shop but what's even more amazing is how old bugs still languish on after 5 years.....fail

Seriously don't even think about spending cash on this game it's still very broken...

with the market they broke crafting.  Social server keeps going down, still falling through

the world, cant trade, etc etc....

just leave it alone guys and maybe finally this horror will go away....this is Sony's truly last

chance to try to ressurect this monstrosity....too bad they did it during the month when

GW2 will be released (idiots).

A lot of misinformation here.   They have said almost all quest rewards can be used by f2p no matter the quality and I leveled from 1-30 and almost every blue item i seen was useable by f2p.

Blue items have been lifted I have started doing the banisher's questline for crafters and so far I have received like 12 "gold" "orange" items that I can't use atleast they can give us options   this or that............this game needs a middle ground F2P matrix or it's gonna die...this is just one big experiment for SONY....right around the corner is

GUILD WARS 2 massive mmo that offers all content with a ONE box purchase which is like

100 times better than Vanguard.   I dont' know what they were thinking or they didn't realize that ANET was going to release Guild Wars 2 in August thats like David and GOliath....okay most people probably can afford a pay and a not pay mmo but which MMO are most players going to play come August 25th....yah I thought so.

I for one am glad GW2 has no raiding and like I said in a post on here couple weeks ago...if

GW2 isn't for everyone and if it isn't then DON't get it, it just isn't for you...and probably never will be.

And I suspect most will. Enjoy your continuing low pop

This Just move on attitude is why Vanguard has languished for so long as a subpar MMO

who barely retains any players and the long time veterans who keep paying these 15 per month sub fees

but like you say "enjoy your continuing low pop" I logged on yesterday and it's still very unpopulated last

I heard on Telon the count was close to 1000 players sure didn't feel like it while I was online and I was

teleporting all over the place.  This is truly Vanguard's last hurrah we are probably witnessing here the end

of Vanguard SOE needs to change their pricing model a bit to attract more players.   What's going to happen

when F2P players refuse to do dungeons because the loot wont be accessible to them?  F2P players are

in the game to spend little cash and populate the servers SOE thats basic F2P protocol ....who the hell is

making the calls overthere????????????????

SoE F2P is not free enough. Unless they move to a model like GW2 I wont try it. 15 bucks a month for all content is still a rip off in today market.

Maybe when you lack content like GW2 does :)  Vanguard is HUGE easily 30 dungeons in the game between level 8 and 55 maybe more.   Vanguard was truly the last MMO made that tried to make an epic world of this scale rift, swtor, gw2, tsw, tera all of them lack even a fraction of the size vanguard had at launch.

Also the F2P isn't very restrictive you can wear almost all blue items and any quest reward you get.   If you decide to sub its only 7.50 a month if you pay yearly which is the best option in my opinion or its 14.99 a year if you get station access and have access to all SOE games.  Also with any sub you get 500 station cash free per month.

GW2 has 8 dungeons with 3 different paths you can take, so its really 24 at launch and the promis of much more to come. I am not worried about a lack of content. I only play 1 MMO at a time so 15 bucks a month is still a rip off. If it was a flat fee of 4-7 bucks a month I would jump at playing Vanguard as I love the world and the classes but I refuse to play 15 bucks a month and I wont shell out for a year for any MMO, even one I am enjoying curently. To many quality MMOs coming out that have a much more appealing price point. GW2, NWN. People using a game like GW2 with a cash shop spend on average about 4-7 bucks a month. For me thats a fair price.

Meh, 50 cents a day is not a  ripoff. Don't drink a Mountain Dew or skip a candy bar. If you start subbing several games at one time like that guy with 40 WoW accounts multiboxing,  then I can see it being a problem! :)

Vanguard is a true mmorpg in my mind. It is clunky, but it has some superior features that not even EQ2 has. Now, if they can shake the blankets and get rid of some of the bugs it has a chance! Yay!

Its called market value, I am willing to spend 50cents on a candy bar or a can of pop as thats what its worth. My point is the market value for monthly subs is changing.  DDO and GW1 has proved they can make lots of money and make enough content to make customers happy with a average of 4-7 bucks a month from customers.

I have been playing GW2 and its as quality as an MMO can get. I am having bucks of fun in PvE and WvW. So why would I jump ship to play an older game and pay more? Market value of Vanguard is F2P but not as SoE has it set up. Make it really free to play or charge 4-6 bucks a month.

I really enjoyed Vanguard in its day and I am not here trying to turn people from this game to go play GW2. My point is this. If ANet can make money on their game with an average of 4-7 bucks a month with a cash shop. Then why is SoE giving Vanguard a 7 year old game a bad make over. Their F2P model for Vanguard is so restrictive IMO its not worth playing. In the end if you love the game you will be paying 15 bucks a month. Is that a bad thing? IMO yes. Why? Because quality games are coming out that are really F2P.

Lets put it this way. Since you said I should not buy Mountain Dew because its 50cents. What if Mountain Dew is your fav pop but a company came out with a drink that tasted just like Mountain Dew but costs 25 cents and gave you PvP? Its not that 50cents costs a lot but its no longer the market value. Many are seeing 15 bucks a month as a rip off because we have been playing beta weekend events with GW2. After the box price it really is F2P. I leave you with this question. Whats a 7 year old game worth in this market? For me? I would resub to Vanguard for 4-6 bucks a month. I think thats fair.

You saved me some typing because you typed exactly what I wanted to say....What Vanguard needs is a Silver Membership that cuts the 15.00 in half or lower....even with all the content Vanguard is not worth 15.00 of my money per month no way no how....sorry Hardcore Vanguard players it's just NOT.

7.00 per month to Vanguard is fair...netflix is 7.99 per month and it has 1000% more value than Vanguard does to me and my family....SOE at it again..in all honestly this is an experiment for them and we are the lab rats...well this rat isn't going to bite.'

Wrong you can't loot all quest rewards you get they have to be under the F2P model or you have to unlock them for a price of 250 sony station cash per unlock....

Wrong,

And so is Guild Wars 2

Despite removing every ounce of anything resembling a war from Warcraft, Blizz has made it very clear they are willing to get into a war with GW2.

WOW knows there days are numbered when it comes to GW2 but

WOW will always have a fanbase....always

yes I know SOE needs to make money and its a business I have no problem with that....

raise some the restrictions and I'll jump in and buy a mount for 10 dollars or so....even a bank slot.

But restricting "high end items?"  Okay so you can level all the way to 55 and your in a dungeon and you can't loot a goldl?

Like I said F2P players will not keep Vanguard alive..it's the subscribers that will keep it alive but there aren't enough of them that's where the F2P players come in what keeps VETS away from the game is the low population.....I was in Leth Nurae last nite for 2 hours I only saw 1 other player and this is A MAJOR city in the game....Leth Nurae in peak times in it's first year was busy with crafters and players all over the place....this is on the first F2P day....

What this tells me is that old players are still staying away from the game atleast most of them, yes I know some came back because I was chatting with them last nite and we were all discussing the F2P plan and all we see is GREED because SOE has no confidence that Vanguard has what it takes to bring in players....it does.  If Guild Wars 1 can afford to keep servers open for 6 years for FREE with thousands of players still playing it, you can log in to Guild Wars 1 right now and find thousands of players in there right now WHY because Guild Wars 1 is a GREAT game with GREAT support.  Vanguard has been neglected for years and now they just want to FLIP the switch and watch the magic happen??? doesn't work that way.

Vanguard is dear and very memorable to some of us players that were there day 1 and helped SIgil with Bugs and what not, but in the two years I played it they ignored some of the biggest problems and some are still there.

I see this as Vanguard's last breathe and honestly I don't think it's gonna make it....competition is tough this summer..

GW2-Completely Free2Play after box purchase.

SWTOR- Free2Play

Secret World

Planetside

Sony is fighting an uphill battle...this is a very stubborn company with a track record of doing things 100% there way and not listening to their audience and it's gonna cost them.....servers will get congested and support tickets will ramp up and subscribers will rise then fall like always....I wish Vanguard the best but if you read here and on other forums people are just not happy with the F2P model ony the hardcore players I wish them luck really but I am moving on to better games....to new players let me give you some advice....don't waste your itme.

I forgot to mention the high end item restrictions....yes you can now level to 55 as a F2P but you won't be able to claim the high end loot as a F2P player again a slap to the face.

SOE's last ditch effort to ressurect this montrosity from the grave fails to bring in VETS from hibernation....I'll tell you why.

#1 First 2 Plat on coin....really 2 plat? I can sell precious metals and make easily 10PLALT in one day if I wanted too.

#2 25 bank slots?

#3 restricting classes and races for F2P players....

SOE fails to realize that the F2P players are in Vanguard as a commodity to support to other hardcore players....to POPULATE the servers.  Instead their restrictive pricing plans are keeping us away.   There is a reason why we don't want to pay 15.00 a month anymore IT"S JUST NOT WORTH IT.  But, spending some cash on a mount, XP potions, cosmetics, and some armor might be alright but if you look at their pricing plans it's way too aggressive and all VET players and some new players see is GREED....a Pay2WIIN system will not work SOE....EVER.

Cant really make the statement that GW2's pvp is what WAR should have been.

Lets not forget that when WAR was in the same launch state as GW2 is now, fresh of an open beta, every single praise that is being said about WAR and what effect it will have on the mmo industry is being said for GW2.

Its the exact same setup.

People didnt start to dislike WAR untill later on in the game, and the 1-10 experience proved to be the most entertaining for most. This is a part of GW2 that hasnt been publicly tested.

I get the sneaking suspicion that GW2 complaints are going to be rolling in heavy once their PQ's get old, their population spreads out making some of them pointless in attempting, and people start to realize that "endgame at level 1" means an actual endgame thats the same old.

Hard to tell at this point.

What some people seem to forget is all the GW1 players waiting to play GW2 millions of them.  GW1 is over 8 years old I  just logged in yesterday to update my hall of monuments and it's packed in there.  GW2 won't get old and by the time it gets old there will be another game out.  WAR got old because their END GAME sucks.  GW2 endgamem doesn't center on one event like WAR their is a multitude fo things too do.  GW1's highest level was 20 and even at 20 there were lots of things too do.  GW2 has 80 levels that alone should tell you that GW2 has enough content to keep players happy for a long time to come.

Lets not forget WAR has amazing character design and Guild Wars 2 sucks...

That alone is why I wont play.

WAR HAS AMAZING  character design????   what.....are you kidding me...

The lackluster order characters is one reason for the huge imbalance when the game first launched...

Yes the chaos side looked nice  too good, players flocked to chaos side because of the looks of their

characters, but order was owning after everyone figured it out too late by then....I can't believe you guys are

still discussing this game really...go play GW2 when it comes out.  Everything WAR should of been GW2 is.

They really think people are going to believe that?  No sane person would believe that spin.

Over 1 million people purchased the battlefield membership thing that gives you all the DLC for the game, that costs £40, the least amount of money they made just from that was something like £40,000,000 so it's not hard to believe at all that helped to mask some of the financial hit taken by SWTOR.

Exactly.

Plus Battlefield 3 has sold almost 14 million copies. The profit from Battlefield 3 when all is said and done will be enough  to fund another SWTOR.

Ehmm  some of that money will also fund FAILED projects  which EA has many  which means  just like SWTOR

I don't think Bioware has the now how to keep a F2P game alive.  They barely knew how to keep the pay model alive all they know was that EA wanted to make money and off they go.....

F2P  sorry SWTOR but my hard drive has GW2 waiting for AUG 25th and on...goodbye

#1 Guild Wars sold out on digital sales prompting them to suspend temporarily the sale of DS

#2 Pre-orders of Guild Wars have surpassed 1 mil passing Aion for pre orders and we still have one month

     to go.

#3 Anet predicts Guild Wars 2 will sell 3.1 Mil by August 2012

#4 (and probably the main reason why Guild Wars 2 doesn't need you)

Guild Wars 1 sold 6.5 mil copies as of 2010 therefore the fanbase for GW is already

healthy and thriving and most will carry over to GW2.

On all three forums here, GuildWarsguru, and Guild Wars 2 official forums there seems to be alot

of whining about certain things that can't seem to entice certain players go play GW2.  Mainly it's elitists that

don't like the downed state because boohoo they didn't get the kill because they survived and got rezzed by a zerg

or wow and SWTOR players that just cant stomach the fact that GW2 has no raiding.   To tell you the truth a GW1 player

will tell you that they probably don't want you around anyways and that maybe you should just stick to your other MMO.  It seems too me that the only people that are on the fence about this game are the ones who did not like GW1 or did not play GW1 and are just not sold on GW2 so my advice to you is dont buy it..it's not for you.
