I'm not saying that the dev's should copy-paste MobA's. I'm saying that this genre has a lot of things that could be implemented in MMORPG's. ArenaNet tried to implement some things from MobA's with Guild Wars 2. For example in DotA you have just 1 hero from 105 that can taunt. The holy trinty doesn't exist in Moba's. You have at least 5 or six different roles. I simply say that I want this things in MMORPG's. I cannot understand users that are crying after the holy trinity. Why should we have 3 roles to fufill: DPS, Tanker and Healer when we could have 10 or 15? Why should be one shot by another player just because he plays 10 hours per day and I'm playing 10 hours per week? If you will ever play a MobA you will see that it has a greater complexity then the PVP of a MMORPG. |

MMORPG's should be more of "how I play it" and less of "what gear/level I have". I understand very well that RPG means progression, but DotA and all the games made after this mode, proved that you can have progression without: end game content, grind and 100 useless skills. And a lot of gamers will say: and where is the purpose / finality in a game where you play the same map, with the same heroes, with only 4 skills, over and over again. Paradoxically less is more. It's harder to learn how to play a MobA then a MMORPG. That the true progression: what I learned and what I know. And interesting is the fact that MobA's have a bigger fan base then MMORPG's. In DotA 2 at 21:00 - 22:00 UTC+2 usualy are 200.000 concurent users playing. I presume that LoL and DotA have at least the same number of users.
On-topic: If you want a f2p that is not p2w you could try DotA 2. It has an awful community and a high learning curbe but I think that it's funny. If you need a beta-key for it, PM me. |

Maybe you could check Age of Conan. It has one of the best graphics , interesting melee combat, it's F2P and it has the quality of an AAA title. Of course you have to subscribe to have the full benefits but I think that you could use this Fremium option as an extend trial. |

I didn't used nothing from CS in Aika but the publisher it's gpotato so I presume that you must invest some money into it to be competitive in PvP. |

I think you can change the settings for WASD movement. Another interesting mmo could be for you Aika, where you can fiind RvR with 5 factions. |

Lineage 2? It has an open world and you can easily PVP. If you can stand the grind it's a good game. |

Nothing to choose between germanic and asian mithology

Originally posted by Neanderthal This is exactly what I'm trying to say. All the beings in the currently mmo's look like they were "nerfed" by the nature. Nothing new. I'm hoping that World of Darkness from CCP will bring something new to the genre, but I'm sure that they will preserve some of the stereotypes to appeal to the masses. Maybe what I am asking for is a niche game? Yes, orcs came from Tolkiens books. |

Nothing to choose between germanic and asian mithology
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 5/12/10 7:52:11 PM
I'm reading this forum since 2008 or 2009. I created this account for a beta key and I never posted because I use this site only to get informations about my new games. I'm not a veteran of mmorpg's and I didn't played UO or Everquest, or AC but I play PC games since I was 10 years old(now I'm 21). But I noticed on this forum that many users experience the same thing like me. They are burn out by the currently games. I saw a lot of threads where this fact was discussed. Many say that WoW destroyed this genre of games, others that the mass of gamers recently entered on the market made the genre how it is, others that the devs have on imagination and so on.... But I never saw one opinion: the lore is permanently the same. We have 2 types of lores: the asian mmo, witth kung-fu, tao, ying-yang... and the mmo based on the germanic mithology with elfs, dwarfs, gnomes and dragons. I saw 2 threads that made me to thing on something(I'm not talking about Sci-fi mmo's, only about the fantasy). The first one was about the fact the elfs are present on all the AAA mmo's and that maybe we don't want them anymore. The second one, I saw it on the LFG section and it was about a game with Norse mithology. So I thinked myself: Ok all of us know this type of lore, orcs and the golbins are the bad guy and the humans and the elfs are the good guy. We all know that elfs have long ears and that gnomes are small. Nobody can use a different type of lore? Maybe I'm just subjective but I would enjoy a mmo that is inspired from the thracian mithology, or from the indian one(I'm from Romania). The thracians were one of the biggest barbaric tribes, bigger than the germans. The vampiers, the werwolfs, the iele(some kind of faires) come from the thracian mithology. Also the indians with their caste system, and their deites would create a very good lore. Also I think that many more cultures could be integrated in games. The fact that the mass of gamers comes from Asia, USA, Canada and West Europe makes the devs to simply prefer the germanic mithology and the asian themes? There is nobody that wants a new type of lore? And if you tell me: DAoC for me it's not the answer. It's a good game but, the norse mthology it's practicly the same thing with the germanic one.
Sorry for my bad english... but I'm not an english native speaker. |
