i have no idea what it is about this game, but i just can't force myself to play it for more than 15 minutes before getting bored out of my mind. it completely baffles me.

it's very pretty, it runs smoothly, good music, it's got ES lores....and yet i just cant get myself to log on. last time i did, i litteraly spawned in the world, ran around for 2 minutes and logged off.

...hug, one more ship that looks like a fighter jet. so sick of all these fighter jet ships in SC. i want friken SPACE ships damnit!

There are no addictive games - addiction is a state, not a property.

i disagree with this statement. that's like saying there are no addictive drugs, only people prone to addiction. there are definitely things that are way more addictive than others. you don't hear much of anyone ever getting addicted to eating apples....

WoW was friken addictive. i distinctly remember dreaming about different arena pairings or even raid strategies. No other game has ever quite struck such a deep cord with me, and i know this is the same for many others. i literally fell asleep hands on the keyboard right in the middle of a dungeon i was so exhausted, but unwilling to stop playing. No other game to date has ever captured my interest like that. thank goodness i didn't go as far as losing my job...good old 2005....

As to what WoW had (doesn't really have it anymore) that so many other very good games don't have, i really couldn't say. it just struck a perfect balance between effort and reward, fantasy and goofiness, easy to learn hard to master, solo gameplay and group gameplay, story telling and action.....everything was just spot on.

But it's the same question as what makes a particular pop song a smashing success, when there are thousands of other almost identical songs that don't.....nobody knows, some things just have a life of their own....

so they thought that RTS and MOBAS were not hard enough on their own, so why  not combine them into the mother load of micromanaging difficulty?....

Incredible complexity rarely translates into widespread popularity, mostly because the grand majority of the population is not overly smart, ALSO most people don't want to spend a butt load of time just figuring out how to have some fun.

the best games have always been those that are really easy to learn, but very hard to master.

i do hope it works out for them, but at first glance this seems to cater to a very small, super hard core, elitist type of player. i may be wrong.

All forms, just let me decide the WHEN.  That's all.  If I'm not ready to be ganked, don't force me to be.  Let me choose when I flag or don't.  The type of PVP doesn't matter if one is aware of the dangers instead of popping into a game hoping for a relaxing session of just PVE and then getting ganked by nasty people who proceed to camp your corpse without being able to just say, no, I'm not attackable, go away.

the best balance i have found out of any game so far is still EVE. Their high sec/low/sec/null sec is absolutely brilliant. danger IS present everywhere but there is a large part of map where you can play in 90% safety, and the consequences for attacking players are severe. you decide when you are ready to try less and less safety, and more pvp.

i don't like game that force you to be all pvp all the time, or all pve all the time. there needs defined areas for both, and harsh consequences for pvpers that want to greef non-pvpers in pve zones.

i've tried 3 time to play this game.

what i rember was:

mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to man, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana......

rez, run back to my body....

mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to man, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana......

somehow it never quite stuck with me....

Elite is definitely a gem of game.

Sure it has it's flaws, and i would have done the whole "solo/multiplayer" thing differently, but it's still an awesome, awesome game. i have an Oculus Rift and this quickly become the single best experience in the last 5 years. there is no space game out right now that even compares.

Is it worth going back to MO, what have changed the good and the bad?

it depends when was the last time you played.

there have been improvements in the last couple of years, and they have added a lot of structures (keeps/walls/towers/gates/mines/farms/etc) that players can build. you even get your own npc guards and lictors to defend your town. walls can now be built almost anywhere....and yea, people do just that. all in all, if you like building your own village/strong hold you have a lot more freedom than before.

Pve is pretty much exactly like it used to be. there are a couple of different mobs like demons and centaurs...but they are all just as stupid as wisents. in short, pve is still pretty much just a time sink for resources, and making gold.

the point of this game is pvp.

PvP is much like it was, heavely in favor of large groups. everyone runs around in groups of 10 or more. Mounted combat is currently the fotm. otherwise everyone runs around in heavy steel armor and large weapons. if you live close to the server (europe), and have reasonable ping, combat can be fun. otherwise prediction is horrible, and you are basically permanently handicapped, as blocking will be impossible.

having said all that, the game still has a lot of bugs. for example lately mounted archery has been completely broken, to the point that nobody even uses it, weapons still go invisible in your inventory over node lines, and many other bugs. also the GMs are too underpaid & involved with the community to be totally impartial and consistently professional. many long time players/guilds get special treatment behind the curtain.

imo it's a very unique mmo, and it can be fun if you love hard core pvp, but still not worth monthly subscription.

i have to agree that FE was pretty much this.

however, i found FE too busy for an apocalyptic mmo. too many people crowding the spawns, too many people at the quest hubs. just too many people to actually make me feel like i am a survivor. i was just one other pipe wielding hobo running around a large junkyard.

Dayz did it right as far as the feeling of being alone against the world. then again Dayz had a huge map and a cap of 50 players per server.

that for me would be the biggest challenge for such an mmo: making actually feel like one of the few remaining people on earth....a lawless, unforgiving and lonely earth like Mad Max.

i also disagree somewhat.

walking in stations alone will note make EvE grow. sure, for a few months you would see some growth as people return to check out the new feature, and maybe a few more players join. however, eventually walking into station would become quite boring, much like the captains quarters  is.

just walking that is.

the first time i saw the captain's quarters i was like " oh man, this looks awesome. i'm finally out of my ship. i'm a person!". that lasted a bout 1 week, and then i even stopped using it. it's eye candy, but not really useful, or in any way practical. the same would happen with walking inside stations. you would do it once or twice, but then, once you've seen that station a few times, you would get bored.

there needs purpose to "walking inside a station", and there needs to be a way to show off your ship/and or status when inside the station. only then will people never get bored.

Giant screens maybe, that show the current ships docked inside your station. or holograms that alternate between all the ships docked. or just a bar overviewing the hangar full of ships.

as far as purpose, you need to be able to interact directly with players at a "human to human" level (as opposed ship to ship). people need to be able to get into fights, or be able to physically arrest someone (that has a bounty), or just attempt to kill war decked enemies, and maybe even get into it with local authorities, all inside those stations. just walking around talking to people gets boring fast no matter how pretty everyone looks.

No surprise here, really.

however, i might download it again now that it's F2P. the game was never bad, it was more disappointing because it wasn't great (like all the Elder Scrolls games).

Bernie Madoff disagrees with this line of thought.

think it could be an issue on your end

10 million people can't be wrong

Taco bell serves 38million people each week - think bout that for a second

well if we are going by numbers than LoL is the best game on the planet.......27 million players on a daily basis can't be wrong.

....just saying.

i would say that it's the best working, most successful  mmorpg on the planet.....but for me it's just ....yawn.....

when i first heard this i thought they were getting rid of the "solo" option, and thought it was a very bad move. however, now i understand that's not the case. they are just removing the option to play the game without having an internet connection.

....are there still people that play games without an internet connection?

the only haters this game can have is people that haven't played it.

get hotas, get Oculus Rift and this game will blow your mind. i know because i'm getting blown right now...

Just get PS4.

As someone that has the Rift i have to say that while it can be a very cool experience, you will not be using it not nearly as much as a brand new console.

the rift is pretty amazing, but it's not nearly ready for the general public. even the newest version is far from optimal. the resolution still needs to be improved, and hopefully the field of view will be increased a bit. getting it to work can also be kind of pain, and you can only truly have fun playing just a handfull of games on it right now. it's still a dev kit for a reason, and it's definitely not "plug and play".

it also takes a pretty good computer to run the Oculus Rift at high enough frames so that it doesn't nauseates you (i'm talking about an i5 or i7, and at least a Nvidia 700 or 800 series video card). there is also the possibility that you might be one of those people very susceptible to motion sickness, and would never really get much enjoyment from it.

if you have to choose one or the other i would just go with PS4 and wait for the consumer version of the Rift (or even project morpheous by sony).  If you already have a very good computer and do most of your gaming on it anyways (rarely use consoles) then the Rift might be ok for you.

1) anything that requires a long time to achieve and requires a combination of careful planning, deep knowledge, prolonged intense concentration and skill, and generally has a very large failure rate with substantial loss incurred with failure.

2) obsessive. borderline compulsive

3) sieging in MO (it's ok if you don't know what MO is).  after a month of planning and logistical preparation we spent a whole 3 day weekend sieging a keep. i slept about 8 hours in the 3 days, the other 64 hours were pretty much spent sieging....with the odd eating/bathroom break.. we were pushed back countless times. the keep was rebuilt almost 3 times. most of the server was involved at one point or other. but eventually we manged to destroy the keep spending probably more gold that it takes to build 2 keeps......that was pretty hard core by my standards.

by the way i don't consider myself a hardcore player. i'm sure EvE players have some stories to tell

1) WoW: druid (back when it was the only class with HoT). best kiting healer ever.

2) AoC: bear shaman . funnest offensive melee healer i've ever played.

3) War: Shaman. so much WAAGGG! fun
