...but why not just play ESO instead?....lmao, that was a joke. ESO feels nothing like the Elder Scrolls games.

i really don't understand why, instead of making that shit game ESO, couldn't they just work on something like this instead. even if you have to cap servers at 50 or 100 players it would still be better than the current option (ESO). heck! cap it at 10 people per server and i would still enjoy it more than ESO.

Don't get me wrong, ESO is a nice mmo as far as generic mmos go, it just blows as an Elder Scrolls mmo. it feels nothing like any of the elder scrolls games, and plays nothing like them either.

co-op Elder Scrolls world, with a que system to join a "Cyrodiil like" battle ground, would work just fine for me.

not surprised really.

MOBAs have more challenging group play  than 90% of all mmos released in the last 5 years. of course they are gaining in popularity. it's not that MOBAS have become better, mmorpgs have become way worse. bunch of single player, spoon feed,  mindlessly repetitive grind mills they have become.

oh, do you don't know who to talk to? let me put a giant question mark on said guy, so you can see him from a mile off.

oh, you don't know where to go? let me put an arrow on your mini map with an X right where you need to go.

oh, you don't know how to find your mini map on the top right of you screen? let me just highlight the path for you so all you have to do is follow the giant yellow line on the floor just like if you were in a mental hospital.

oh, you don't know how to follow a giant yellow line on the floor in front of you? let me just level you up while you stand still right there for absolutely no reason except to avoid you getting frustrated and leaving this game for the next fotm mmo....

.......absolutely no challenge, absolutely no skill required, absolutely no interaction needed.....PEOPLE WANT A CHALLENGE. and no challenge is as fun as one you can complete with friends. meh, back to Dota 2 i guess....

Still the only mmo that feels like a medieval UO with elder scrolls first person combat. yea the game has it's flaws and still has bugs, but it's come a long way. community is small but very dedicated. i'll be going back to see the new stuff, a lot of old players are also coming back. the land will

Until they figure out how to eliminate headache + nausea I get with DK2 after about 15min of use - no go for me. Oh and yes I know that not everyone experiences this - but a significant % of users do experience it, so it's a valid concern *to me*

i doubt they will ever be able to completely remove that for absolutely everyone. some people are just really sensitive to it and will always be uncomfortable.

of course high fps, low latency, proper IPD setting, and the game having native support for the OR makes a huge difference. it is also true that you build up resistance to it, much like you build up resistance to sea sickness, but some people will always be more sensitive to it.

then again we have only been using hardware prototypes until now, and mostly on games not designed for VR, with bad support, and little knowledge on exactly what triggers the nausea. things are only going to get better.

i have a dk2

i'm only getting this if it's significantly higher resolution. don't care about comp spec, if need i will upgrade, but right now the DK2 is still too low rez to be played with for long periods of time. small text is hard to read and anything far away is hard to see.

As it is the DK2 it's still is an incredible experience, nothing even comes close to actually walking inside Skyrim or watching asteroids in Elite Dangerous. however it needs higher resolution. bigger FoV would also be nice, but i'll settle for optimal resolution.

more doesn't always translates into better.

this is one of my pet peeves in GW2, too many damn spell/ability effects. you just get to a point where it becomes a complete chaos of bright colors and explody, glittery, spiky, bubbly cant even see the friken characters anymore, just a complete cluster fuck of effects.

it might as well be looking at a box of firecrackers going off....

DF1 was hardly a great game, that's why it was only played by a handful of hard core fan boys.

the stat/skill grind which required months and months of afk macroing was awful. the fact that people could use magic to run and leap faster than horses, and rendering pretty much any wall useless was stupid. the huge gap in strength between vets and new players. the horrible UI. the ridiculous mana/stam/hp transfer mini game you had to constantly spam....many thing were pretty bad with the original DF.

no point bringing back the old DF. just scrap DFUW, and start a brand new full loot mmo like DF, but on a different engine which allows free structure placement and some degree of terraforming.

these are hardly the major issues with the game.

yes, there is a bit of a learning curve (flagging system), and yes reds have stat loss (killing blue players indiscriminately should have consequences), and the game could have more explanations, but truly this i not why most players leave this game.

the core issues are:

1) bugs. once you play this game a while you start to notice a lot of bugs. from UI bugs, to AI bugs, to world bugs, the list is almost endless. some of them quite major pvp breaking bugs. the combat it'self is quite wonky with prediction and all, ad some lag, some node lines and it can become unplayable at times. you lose a lot of shit simply because of bugs.

2) cheaters and exploiters. SV just doesn't have the will or resources to deal harshly with cheaters. they just dont want to lose the vital subscription money, so they often turn a blind eye unless it's a major cheater or dupe and A LOT of other players make a big stink about it. players are constantly lag switching, and simply hacking. questionable use of broken mechanics is also quite rampant.

3) server instability. this one has been incredibly apparent lately with some random dude getting pissed off enough to DOS the serve, making it unplayable for days on end. SV does not have the money to buy DOS protection, and they are simply not able to counter it. every new day there is a thread from players requesting compensation for time lost due to server crashing for hours on end. this is completely rediculous for a subscription mmo that's been out for 5 years already.

bring back Grindfall?!

no thanks.

yes, the original game was way funner, but if they bring it back they have got to remove that endless grind. nothing wrong with having to spend a couple of months statting up your character, but endless macroing required for skill grinding was beyond retarded. a full loot pvp mmo should be about just that: full loot pvp, not afk macroing for months just so you dont become gimp vs everyone else that is macroing non stop.

if there are any grinds, they should be fore the best gear in the game.

they also have to add free structure placement, local banking, and make a new map altogether. old map is old and tired. never going to happen by the way.

Just curious what you guys think is the best (non-instanced/Battleground) PvP game currently playable.  I used to love running rifts in Aion, and still would to this day if they had not nerfed it into the ground.  I'm curious, what is you guys current go to game for PvP?

Not counting instanced / battleground style PvP games. (ie. WIldstar, WoW, GW2 SPvP, Rift BG's etc)

it's weird that you ask for non instanced pvp games, and then refer to Aion as your favorite......Aion is full of instances.

Arc Age is really the closest thing you will get to Aion. prepare to sub.

as far as open world PVP games go, there is nothing as thrilling (and yes, also frustrating) as full loot drop.

it has the highest highs, and the lowest lows.

i find the idea of dropping only what you have in your bag (keeping all your equipped armor/weapons) alluring. however, while it probably would be fun, it would never be as adrenaline fueled as full loot drop kind of would be hard to balance the fact that this would be a ganker's paradise, as they would be able to wear the best gear/weapons without risking anything with an empty inventory. Still, if well done and thought out, it could be very interesting. this type of game would only work without fast travel, and would require a significant logout timer.

endless, small player capped, private servers was quite a letdown.

i mean, what is the point of fighting over anything when you can just make your own server, and build there? i understand that they are still sort of dreaming of an official single world server down the road, but i doubt they will ever get there now that the game has gone down the private servers road.

it works for Dayz because it's supposed to feel desolate, and the point of the game is simply survival, but in a game where you have to spend time and effort building things you want to know that it will matter somewhat. the more you dilute the player base the less it really matters to anyone what is done on any particular server.

games that focus on retaining subscriptions and player count more than creating the most amazing fantasy adventure possible.

we originally started playing these games to have the opportunity to band together with some like minded individuals, and set forth on a fantastic adventure in a world unlike our own. the thrill of adventure and magic of discovery, mixed with the excitement of danger lurking around every corner.

instead, most games have turned into mindless treadmill grinds designed to stimulate your selfish competitive ego, and keep you masticating the same slightly altered content as long as absolutely possible, in order for you to keep up with the "virtual Jones next door".

great adventure is what we seek, mindless spoon fed dopamine manipulation is what we get.

i have no idea what it is about this game, but i just can't force myself to play it for more than 15 minutes before getting bored out of my mind. it completely baffles me.

it's very pretty, it runs smoothly, good music, it's got ES lores....and yet i just cant get myself to log on. last time i did, i litteraly spawned in the world, ran around for 2 minutes and logged off.

...hug, one more ship that looks like a fighter jet. so sick of all these fighter jet ships in SC. i want friken SPACE ships damnit!

There are no addictive games - addiction is a state, not a property.

i disagree with this statement. that's like saying there are no addictive drugs, only people prone to addiction. there are definitely things that are way more addictive than others. you don't hear much of anyone ever getting addicted to eating apples....

WoW was friken addictive. i distinctly remember dreaming about different arena pairings or even raid strategies. No other game has ever quite struck such a deep cord with me, and i know this is the same for many others. i literally fell asleep hands on the keyboard right in the middle of a dungeon i was so exhausted, but unwilling to stop playing. No other game to date has ever captured my interest like that. thank goodness i didn't go as far as losing my job...good old 2005....

As to what WoW had (doesn't really have it anymore) that so many other very good games don't have, i really couldn't say. it just struck a perfect balance between effort and reward, fantasy and goofiness, easy to learn hard to master, solo gameplay and group gameplay, story telling and action.....everything was just spot on.

But it's the same question as what makes a particular pop song a smashing success, when there are thousands of other almost identical songs that don't.....nobody knows, some things just have a life of their own....

so they thought that RTS and MOBAS were not hard enough on their own, so why  not combine them into the mother load of micromanaging difficulty?....

Incredible complexity rarely translates into widespread popularity, mostly because the grand majority of the population is not overly smart, ALSO most people don't want to spend a butt load of time just figuring out how to have some fun.

the best games have always been those that are really easy to learn, but very hard to master.

i do hope it works out for them, but at first glance this seems to cater to a very small, super hard core, elitist type of player. i may be wrong.

All forms, just let me decide the WHEN.  That's all.  If I'm not ready to be ganked, don't force me to be.  Let me choose when I flag or don't.  The type of PVP doesn't matter if one is aware of the dangers instead of popping into a game hoping for a relaxing session of just PVE and then getting ganked by nasty people who proceed to camp your corpse without being able to just say, no, I'm not attackable, go away.

the best balance i have found out of any game so far is still EVE. Their high sec/low/sec/null sec is absolutely brilliant. danger IS present everywhere but there is a large part of map where you can play in 90% safety, and the consequences for attacking players are severe. you decide when you are ready to try less and less safety, and more pvp.

i don't like game that force you to be all pvp all the time, or all pve all the time. there needs defined areas for both, and harsh consequences for pvpers that want to greef non-pvpers in pve zones.

i've tried 3 time to play this game.

what i rember was:

mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to man, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana......

rez, run back to my body....

mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to man, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana, mana to stamina, stamina to health, health to mana......

somehow it never quite stuck with me....

Elite is definitely a gem of game.

Sure it has it's flaws, and i would have done the whole "solo/multiplayer" thing differently, but it's still an awesome, awesome game. i have an Oculus Rift and this quickly become the single best experience in the last 5 years. there is no space game out right now that even compares.
