How are the populations?
General Discussion « Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted 11/07/09 10:20:09 PM
Shall see what happens myself very soon! Downloaded the client and installed everything over the weekend and actually remembered my username! Will sub for a month and see what my old characters are like. Will probably level a dragon though to try out the lower level content first and then wander around with my Battlemage. Cannot remember what server i was on though... Many people might be on ventrilo and such - I know when I play WoW (when i can be bothered) I miss a lot of ingame chatter. Maybe this was the case but its hard to tell. Hopefully you will still have some fun over the remaining 30 days. I wonder what server most people are on? Hope to see people in game!

Hmmm - I received an email as well about my account being fixed. I will have to check once I get home and take a closer look and see what it exactly said! I played Horizons at launch and enjoyed it to a point. Crafting got boring and seemed way too much of a grind, but then so did levelling as mobs were few and far between. It is great that the devs are rebuilding the areas from the ground up as this was what I always though the game needed. There were so many possibilities... it is nice to see the game still going. I loved the Battlemage class and changed to it as soon as i have the pre-reqs (plusa bunch of other classes already levelled!), but felt the class lacked something and appeared weak, especially against the Pally. In the end I levelled to about 70 in battlemage and went back and levelled Mage to about 74. That helped a lot! Though the dragon character is the games best feature! i might have to give this game another look, though not for the crafting! |

Poll:LotR the 3rd Failure of Turbine ?
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 7/06/07 4:40:58 PM
I played Asherons Call and it was a fun game - needs a complete makeover now but for what it is, its fun. AC2... looked great but was missing something. I have a founders membership to LOTR Online and it is a great game and cannot see this game failing. But to each their own. Oh and I also have an active WoW account and play it for fun. Everyone gets something out of a game otherwise they would not play it! |

Oh, what a difference a sound card makes
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 3/07/07 12:51:52 AM
I've heard of similar issues being resolved with the sound correctly chosen or a sound card installed. I personally have not been getting the issue a lot of people talk about and find the game runs great. The only thing I do on loggin in is stand in place and spin so that everything loads as far as I can see with my character. I have little if no issues after that. I get almost no lag, apart from chunk lines and few seconds lag on opening something like the Broker but this does not always happen. True I did wait a month before starting Vanguard but the improvements are there and I am enjoying it.
Did a grouping in the spider lair west of Veskals Exchange - 6 players and (unfortunately 6 creatures - talk about bad pulls...) but no lag in combat at all. I was really surprised but also Very happy that it ran so well. My PC is 12 months old but I did buy with Vanguard in mind at the time. 2 GB of RAM is a must for this game, and personally a min 256MB graphics card. A new 8800 would be 'nice' but they are expensive still but I do want to get one. |

The frozen wastes to the north sounds about right with a whole new set of areas - maybe 7 - where we hopefully get access to Hero Classes (though that does sound like a big job if you had a special hero class for each of the talent trees, but is something I feel they need to do). Maybe add in joint Horde \ Alliance mission to defeat the scourge in these areas. Of course this would have worked better before paladin and shaman became avaiable to both factions but you never know. Opens up a new segment but again might be too hard and not WoW. Thats my 2 cents...

How long did you play horizons?
General Discussion « Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted 2/12/07 11:26:07 PM
I played a Human Mage to start with called Pyrus. I added in some cleric levels, some warrior levels until I decided to play a Battlemage. I loved the idea of this class though it was lacking something. I played that class up to 68 and decided I need more firepower so started leveling Mage again. Got to 72 with the Mage class on Dawn Server which became Order. Played over a 13 month period from release - liked the game a lot but it needed more creatures \ mobs in the wilderness but the best thing was the way we could impact on the world. I liked Horizons and it is a pity it has ended up the way it has.

Actually SIGIL have always talked about going to the Unreal 3 engine for they already have the ground work in their current code and with Vista coming it only makes sense to make sure the game will run on it. Also, of course the game will be better three months after release - all games are. Look at WoW. It was better three months after release (as in less server downtime).

Good OP and I agree with most of it.
The game is coming along nicely. I have been in beta for 6 days now and you can tell performance is getting better all the time. I have a druid and the class is a lot of fuin to play. Yes, there are some places that give a bad FPS but I turned off the volumetric clouds and ding 15 FPS improvement! I have only done harvesting, adventuring and started the diplomancy but is fun. The only real issue is performance but i believe they will be going across to new servers shortly with a lot of grunt so things are looking up. That and lots of fixes each day! People have to remember we are stress testing and we are trying to break things! Once the game is upgraded to the Unreal 3 engine and is Vista compatible you knows where we will go! I expect the game to be different 3 months after relase, but in a good way. We have to remember, when WoW launched it was laggy, oh so laggy, we server downtime and problems and Blizzard also did not have all their content 'in' for release. I felt it took them 12 months to get it right but i stopped playing as it did not grab me anymore. I have been playing again lately with friends and two years after release it is very smooth. I also do not compare the graphics between the two games. WoW is cartoony in look while Vanguard has a real world feel. It is like comparing apples and oranges. You either love them or hate them. |

I have only been playing COH \ COV for the last few months, but it has been fun. Once you are in the 20's there is PvP and it works well as you get to fight the villians or heroes depending on what character you logon with (as long as you own both games). I bought both so I have the choice! You get your travel power at lvl 14 if you choose the powers correctly but I do not know about the account \ subs bit. If it is like WoW, then your characters are still there as long as you remember your account details!

Vanguard LOVES Hardcore & Casual Players!!!
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 9/06/06 10:51:23 PM
Only 20% unavailable IF you do not want to Raid? Fine by me!
I would rather explore than power level anyday. Also - how can people play 10 hours a day and raid at night!!! What about work (or school) and then RL committments? That leads to the question - Do Hardcore players have no life? Now that should get the thread moving! |

Why So Much Criticism Against Vanguard?
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 9/06/06 5:40:11 AM
A lack of understanding is the problem. That or a personal hatred of SOE! I known they screwed SWG into the ground (that was a really big disappoinment) but people should not tarnish SIGIL's name because of their association with SOE. I know I will not. The more I read on Vanguard the more I like - I have even found a guild before release. First itme I have ever down that! |

General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 9/06/06 5:28:02 AM
Good post - I expect the trolls to be out in force soon! I am looking forward to this game - maybe I am lucky having never played EQ at all. I also think that people should give a game a minimum of 3 months. WoW had a lot of technical issues on release and was a lot better after 3 months (though I do not play it anymore - lost interest in it). |

Not to mention that the Druid sounds like a great class overall! Sailing was one of the reasons for me chossing Druid first as well. |
|
|
I am thinking a Druid as the class interests me a lot. After that my choices would be a Cleric (as I never play one and it might be a nice change) or a Paladin. I play a lot of Mages and it is time for something different!

I shall check out your website for more details. All about fun in a game is my motto as well!

Actually, a game should not be causal or Hardcore. Any game developed should aim at both groups because there are many people that fit between both extremes. I think I am one of them!
I just think sitting around for 12 hours straight is rather stupid. One of the reasons WoW has been successfully is that there are a lot of both types of player (and those inbetween!! Vanguard should aim for a larger audience and reap the benefits. |

I am a casual player but I have done raiding in WoW - the problem with raiding (and the reason I stopped playing WoW) is because I do not have the time to waste on 40 person raids. Hours and hours to do the MC or Onx or Black Wing Lair are boring after the first few times! Or worse, waiting around to get 40 people together is ridiculous. I can see the reason behind 'why' good gear should only be from these types of raids but I also think is is a design flaw in a game.
Epic quests can do the same thing and be more fun! Of course having said that any new instance I come across I will always try it at least once - The 5-15 smaller raid groups are a lot easier and personally more enjoyable as they can be completed in only a few hours! If Vanguard has something along these lines then I will gladly play Vanguard. I still have high hopes for this game... Maybe I will get in beta 3! |

Hardcore means something different to every person that reads these forums. I personally like corpse runs as they can be fun and challenging! I loved this aspect of Asherson's Call 1. The GRIND part I did not enjoy as there were certain areas people camped and it was not as much fun soloing, though getting in a group was usually easy.
Quests Quests Quests! I like questing, but not just pickup and deliver or kill X of this monster, though at lower levels this can help a person understand the game and let them get a feel for combat etc. I found that playing WoW, while I had fun, was too easy. I also disliked the amount of time i had to put in to run with 40 other people for hours upon hours. Some of us do not have the time between work and the wife. I really want to Beta test Vanguard but not living in North America will probably mean I will not get in... This was something Blizzard did get right. The whole world was able to beta (or closed beta like I was for sometime) the game and I was able to talk friends and family into playing the game on release. They joined up, though like me, not all of them play now due to time restrictions. At the moment I plan on playing D&D Online as most of the adventures\quests are available as solo content and therefore I can play at my own pace for a bit. Then I will join others for group runs once I understand the system! Still looking forward to Vanguard though. |
