Let me think here...Hmmm Should I go back to elf, dwarf and orc themepark mmo's I think I am going to consume myself in SWtOR, the Secret World and possibly revisit STO this entire year. I definitely need a change, I have burnt out on all fantasy mmo's. |

Getting ripped apart on Metacritic

The haters can keep on hating while the fans keep on playing, you will never be able satisfy everyones needs in a mmo today. I used to be one of them players that needed to reach level cap so I didn't miss anything, however nowadays, I just simply enjoy the game for what it is and pace myself. If I get 3 to 6 months of enjoyment out of any game (pc or console), I consider it money well spent. However some people don't have the luxury ok dropping 50+ dollars on any game, but they do anyways because they are impatient. If I was on the fence about any game, I would just wait till they released a 3 to 7 day buddy pass (easy as that). |

Played a total of 30 minutes of the game and got the hell out quickly. I didn't want to get bit by the bug yet, so I will wait till release. Am I a great BETA tester or what?! |

The one thing I tell myself is.. Will I enjoy this game for 1 month or 1 year? Today the way mmorpg's are structured are for the players to get to level cap and grind faction, gear and do PvP Battle Arenas. And we all have done many of these mmo types games. I just hope the game has more innovation than the mmorpg's we have had for the last 5 years. However to me it looks like another themepark arcade action mmo with a Star Wars setting. I am going to play it, however at this point I see myself only playing it for a few months. I hope I am wrong about this. |

It's been a good eleven years but I'm just not liking the direction MMOs are going in.

@ OP Totally Agree! My favorites were AO, EQ, DAoC and SWG. Welcome to the age of cash shops, solo playing and lobby ques for dungeon running in our mmorpg's today. |

Are we losing the social aspect in MMORPGs?

Originally posted by Roche7 Well said Roche7. As stated, us older vets that been around since Meridian 59, Ultima Online, EQ and AO have seen a lot of changes in MMO's. The classics like above games as well as AC, DAoC, SWG and even Eve set fourth the MMORPG craze, however most of these NEW MMO's dont even come close to what we had back then when it came to a great community of players. Whether you like WoW or not, it has changed a way a player views MMO's today, however WoW before BC was a excellent game. |

Originally posted by vanderghast Then why play a MMORPG? Just turn on your Xbox or PS3 and have fun with single player gaming. There are many games out there that dont need social interaction, The Witcher, Dragon Age series and Fallout. Why even play online is my point.

Are we losing the social aspect in MMORPGs?

Just venting... Are the social aspect of MMORPGs gone. Now what I am getting at is this. Growing up with Evercrack, Anarchy Online and SWG, it seems like todays MMO's are made for Single Players to get to level crap with a very linear line to end game. Back in my days of MMORPG's you helped your common player, whether they were looking for a SOW buff on EQ a Fixer Buff to help ya out in AO or better yet a 10k buff from your local Doc sitting at the shuttleport in SWG. Today every MMO player is self sufficient and they don't need BUFF's to do missions in the open world. I remember in SWG I would hang out in the cantina to get a Muscian Buff and as I waited, I got to chat with the locals in the cantina and made some good friends that I still talk to today. I miss the day when I would be standing on the Qeynos stone and screamed, selling SOW. Players would come by and wave, tip ya some coin, then you throw them a buff. This was good stuff. Yeah, I still believe MMOs should have social interaction and not this single player lobbies where we que up for a dungeon and meet a fellow new player for about 30 minutes, get the buffs in the dungeon, kill the boss and say adios to a fellow player on another server. It seems like when we stop depending on other players in MMORPG's to get us by, everyone has now become anti-social unless your in a social guild. To me, simplicty is killing the traditional MMORPGs, but if you like single players games, welcome to the new age of MMOs.

League of Legends is simply my favorite out of all the MOBA's aka MMORTS. If you just want to kill a hour or two, you will find out that these BG's take time to complete (30 minutes to 1 hour). I usually qued up for the 5 players vs computer scenario till I got the hang of the game, then I went into 3 vs 3 and 5 vs 5. You thought the AI was tough, wait till you try agaist other players. (However when I was a noob and still am, I made my own game and it was me and my 4 NPCs troops agaist the 5 other NPCs). The game to me is very competitve and find out my right hand starts to hurt after a few games, but other than that, it is a unique game with many characters to choose from, skills trees, leveling system, runes for extra attributes and lots of back and fourth action. The game is not for everyone that likes the traditional MMORPGs, however if you like the BG's in MMORPGS on a 2D scale with WoW type graphics, you might just like it. And one last thing, its free, but Riot Games does intends to make the Cash Shop enticing. I am level 12 now and have avoided the cash shop to buy XP, IP boosts and characters. All characters can be unlocked the old fashion way by leveling and getting IP, but it will take sometime to collect all the characters this way, but hey, I am in no rush to level cap 30.

I always love playing the so called bad guys in every mmorpg, I feel less restricted and love playing the part. It has no bearing that their more OP, which I just think is a crock when players say this. I am a good person in RL |

The put your money where your mouth is thread on SWTOR success [POLL]
General Discussion « Star Wars: The Old Republic 10/03/11 8:38:25 AM
First of all, WoW is on a decline since it's former self, however to be considered a WoW killer, I don't think so. WoW is a fantasy based MMO while SWToR is a SciFi MMO. Both games have it's unique player base, but there are more fantasy base players that like the traditional Wizards, Elves and Dwarves as their character. Now you should be asking will GW2 be the WoW killer? That I don't know. However SWToR will be a success, it already is if you look at the cost vs the player base that will be picking this game up. As for it going to F2P, I seriously doubt it. I went for moderate success since the game looks like the same formula with every other mmo out there now. |

If you got to choose the "Theme / Setting" for the next big MMO, what would it be?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 9/30/11 9:58:16 AM
Originally posted by proponent Since Disney owns the license, this one would be tough, cause we all know what type of games Disney makes If TRON was made for a more of a mature audience of mmo players and not kiddies 5+ and up, then I can see this happening. Look what happened to SWG when they Kiddfied that mmorpg. |

Star Wars: The Old Republic: The End of an Era and Beginning Anew
News Discussion « General Discussion 9/28/11 10:21:36 AM
I gotta admit.. Star Wars Galaxies to me felt like a mmorpg for a more mature player base, but just like the New Star Wars Episodes and on cartoon network, they gotta cater to the younger audience, because thats where the moneys at. SWTOR does cater to the mass player base (young and old), the reason they went the theme park route. You damn kids, get off my lawn! LOL! |
