This is not a bash, just curious as I admit I have not been following this game very closely.

After the pile of... crap .. ya.. (I can say that right?).. that was STO. I kind of was MMO'd out.

So now I am thinking about getitng into this game but I am wondering if there is going to be more brought to the table later on.

Examples.

Travel powers- Flight, Speed, and Acrobotics..

Thats it? what about Teleportation or Jumping..ect..

Powers-Fire, Ice, Magic, mental, sorcery, gadgets..

What if I do not want any of that?

What if I Wanted some guy who does earth based attacks (rocks, earthquakes..ect..)

Or even simpler..

What if I Wanted my hero/villian to be super strong, can take hits, strength attacks..

Again not bashing, I am just curious if this is in it or if it has been suggested that more will be added later on?

Yep, you might want to sit out for a while if you're not happy with the things you've listed. Earth may make a comeback later, as will light. There has been no hint that travel powers would be expanded upon, but it's possible I suppose.

Early access? Not unless you count downloading now and being in as soon as the servers go live. And that is only if you pre-order from an online service. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I think the main draw here is that pre-ordering is the only way to play Batman in the legends pvp matches.

News right on the main site.  7am Pacific.

I'm really debating how to respond to this. I'm killing time right now waiting for something's to finish downloading. My following choices are:

1. Start flaunting and post pictures, but the last time I did that the thread died probably because my ego scared the shit out of everyone. I don't look like a nerd, I have the pecks and abs to prove it.

2. If you live near by, call you out and post videos. I've kicked one person's ass who thought I was bullshitting, most of the other times ended up with the person pussying out and still talking shit; after all talking shit on the internet is easy.

3. Ignore it. This option is automatically invalid because I'm posting this.

Lets try something new: why don't YOU list what you're proud of? I've got 6 digits worth of shit I could liquidate, a Lotus Elise, a damn hot gf that I've been steady with for 2 years (surprisingly) and a well paying job with shit tons of free time. Your turn.

It's the internet, be creative if you have to lie.

And now we will have a bunch of people viewing this thread simply to see an e-scrap occur.

So...you're a video-gamer, that is also a white-collar professional, with a model girlfriend, that has money to burn, and apparently the UFC fighters can't hold a candle to you.

Where have I heard this story before?  Oh yeah...I remember: On every gamer forum I've ever visited.

Now, the next step should be you grabbing some pics of a random muscular guy off the internet and trying to convince everyone that it is you.  Don't disappoint me.

Pshh.. you think that guy is impressive imanorc?

I'm a Triceratops.  Don't make me post pics to prove it.

Waitaminit......I thought they decided Triceratops didn't really exist. You pulling my leg sir?

Oh no friend, we do exist, there was just a little naming snafu, but we settled it out of court.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. Here I was, afraid you were trying to pass yourself off as something you're not on the internet.  Whew.

I told myself I'd get this if I got hired before it was released and I just got hired so now I'm trying to figure out what the differences are between PC and console versions. Both of my devices can fully run the game and honestly I'd rather get it off steam, instead of put it on my pS3.

Are there any major differences?

There are no major differences between the two platforms.

Interestingly, in one of the closed beta thread in which someone was complaining that PS3 and PC players would be server-segregated, one of the devs mentioned that this segregation would allow them to tailor each version separately as need be and as the players dictated. Now, I hate to read too much into that statement, but it tells me that they are possibly open to the idea of making UI and other such changes for the PC crowd in the future. I understand that they didn't for launch because it saved dev time by making them the same.  May never happen, but that is how I interpretted the comment.

I love the game. I just enjoy playing it. The combat is very skill based with lots of subtle moves and counters that make the PvP in the game a true challange. It's not rock paper scissors or he who has the best gear wins either, though gear and levels do give you an advantage with enough skill it would be possible for a level 10 to beat a less skilled level 30.

That said though I can see that it's not a game for everybody. Some people won't like the twichy fast paced combat and those who can't get used to the combo system will find the game to be too hard. Others will find the limitation of only having a 6 power bar to be disappointing.

What content there is, is very cool. The voice over work is awesome, the story is interesting and the end of arc missions can be a lot of fun. The regular missions.. meh.. a little repetitive. The sad thing is that there just doesn't seem to be enough content. I'm still going to buy the game and play it, but I might cancel after my free month and give them a while to add some stuff before coming back.

All in all I figure the game will start pretty strong, probably 600,000 or so box sales with numbers tapering down to about 250,000 to 300,000 by the end of the first month with a slow decline to a steady base of around 100,000 to 150,000.

Wish I got into the beta, so far I know nothing about the game. Too lazy to do research cause I know i won't listen to others anyway lol

So you started this thread to, what, ignore everyone?

I think launch will see quite a few box sales based on the IP alone; with subs tapering off after the first month like almost every other game. After six months, i predict that the game will have a sub base of about 300k and that is where they will stay. If content amount improves and we see some nice, larger expansions (coast city, star city, more mentors, more powers, ect) then I can easily see this game going over 1M subs. But not real soon.

End-game content was not heavily featured in the beta... they only let you level to 20 (out of a max of 30).  I forget but there was Area 51 and some Ape island added during the beta to test out some of the content.  Believe it or not, there is a LOT to do between trying to find that perfect setup of gear and whatnot.  PvP is a blast.

This was true of the pre-order servers. The invite servers had full access to all of the game.

Some great info there :) Since I haven't had the chance to play the beta, I will have to wait and decide it based on how the gameplay feels.

Is there any end-game content?

I played Champions but I found the game to be very dull for some reason... The endgame was also pretty dissapointing as for pvp...I won't even go there lol.

Endgame:

2-man instances

4-man instances

8-man instances

Hard-mode single player instances for soloers

PvP (legends and arena)

Yeah, the all-knowing arrow.  You didn't notice it?  Did you play?

When you have a quest active, an arrow appears on the mini-map that points you toward the quest area, which is shaded on the mini-map to let you know you're in the right place.

The same dumbed-down quest aids that you find in many other current games.

So you're disappointed that this game contains questing features that other modern MMOs have? Did you expect them to not include modern questing features so that you could feel more leet? Really? Let me ask you something? Do you insist on using land lines so that you can feel legit and old school?

Dude, get a real complaint.

Agreed. Some people seem to think that games should be modeled after the Amish lifestyle to be worth playing. Kinda like the guy that complained that it was wrong to be able to complete your mission through the communicator rather than travelling all the way back across the city to the mission giver.

I voted villian for my first toon. Dual pistols (with rifle at 10), gadgets, still flip-flopping on Lex or Joker. I ran Lex in beta so I may switch to Joker for live. Or not.

In regards to the lack of downtime stuff argument, I'll agree that there is not much, but what is there is rather time-consuming and rewarding.

There is a fun little diversion in-game dealing with collecting various bits of information. As you are doing missions, you'll come across green "!" floating here and there. When you examine these, you'll get a little bit of story information to go along with the current mission arc that you are on. Once you have collected all 6 (usually), you get a new piece of gear in the mail. Most of these are easy to spot while doing the missions and thus, they are easy to complete.

Also, while running around the world, you will find blue "!". The blue "!" are extraneous story elements that add some depth to the overall lore of the DCUO universe. These range in size from 4 to 6 to complete the story and earn a reward. There are even additional rewards for completing multiple blue story sets in a larger set.

But wait, there's more. Also scattered throughout the cities are yellow "?" collectibles. Completing a set of these also grants a new style or piece of equipment. These are usually quite large, ranging from 6-10 pieces to complete the set. And, like the blue "!", there are sometimes sets within sets to award even more styles. These are randomly generated when you examine them, so it takes some time to get a full set.

I wish I could figure out how to post screenshots here, because I have completed a few of the collections and got some nice gear. I earned a nice set of "divine" wings for one collection, an "Arkham Riot" pouch belt, "Jester" shoulders and backpack (which looks like a jack-in-the-box box) and some other stuff that I personally didn't want for my character.

There is also the vault which can be run daily for new styles including "streetwear" like hoodies and ball caps with hero/villian logos on them. Also in the vault are some nice trinkets which turn you into other things like a Toyman doll or a Manhunter robot. I managed to get a pair of speed boots and a Joker's Jetpack that allowed my speedster to fly while it was equipped.

This question is really stupid....but I got to level 12 or so without actually realizing how to change a "role".  So, how do you change roles?  Is it in the "Loadout" menu?  I know that the little skull next to my character HUD would mean I'm in a regular damage mode right?  Thanks guys.

Hehe  took me  till 10  as well,  to change roles it is in the Loadout,  for example  tank/damage  or whatever

as for that little skull  that means pvp

Don't worry about not knowing the role swap, you can't do it until level 10.

The flame icon next to your name means damage mode. In controller role, it will be a lasso-ish looking thing. But I can't for the life of me remember what the tank and healer icons are. Also, when you switch roles, the appropriate icon will flash above your characters head for a few seconds.

I read a few of the threads here, and I am wondering if people here actually tested different builds and roles... Here is the deal with roles.

First: Roles shift your characters focus. One may increase defense but reduce damage... one may reduce damage but increase defense. They can change the amount of power that is regened by your skills.... etc...

Second: They modify or even completely change your powers(many powers say something like "tank role: x controller role: y" in addition to normal effect).

Third: They are not determined by your skills on your hotbar. You have to set a "loadout" for each role, and when you switch to that role, your bar automatically updates to that role. For example, a level 20 ice/dual pistols with points in cryogenics(to get the ice elemental form) will have 3 roles: tank, dps, and ice elemental. In dps I will have the AoE pull, the AoE knockback, damage reflection shield, damage debuff, ice elemental form, and snow devil. In Tank I would have AoE freeze, damage reflection shield, damage debuff, targetted freeze, ice elemental form, and snow devil. I can hit the hotkey to change roles and my character will shift focus AND my hotbar will switch to the appropriate loadout. This also means that (contrary to people who say you only have 6 effective powers) I can configure my powers situationally and switch between them on the fly.

Fourth: Controllers role sucks? wow... I watched a lvl 29 controller solo booster gold in the duo after the patch(when the thing was crazy)... I've watched controllers solo the final battle in hive moon base when we all got locked out of the room cause of a wipe... we thought he would go down and it would reset... and we got to stand at the force-field and watch him solo queen bee and ALL THE ADDS. And before you ask, no I do not know his build, though he was using a big ass 2h hammer.

You don't NEED to use roles, but used effectively they can make your char much more interesting... Most of my chars I had my primary loadout on the role I used the most(i.e. damage role on a dps), and just used the other roles to store loadouts of powers that I might need situationally but didn't want on my main bar... Some of them, however, actually swapped roles for the effects they got from the roles...

I underlined the most important parts of this post. They sum up nicely the roles in DCUO. My controller was the only character that I tried out group content with and I can assure you, the fights went quite differently when I was in damage role compared to when I was in controller role. Also, I noticed that when my group's tank and healer didn't switch to their off-damage role, the fights were a lot tougher.

Also, each power has a tooltip that tells you what it does in damage or off-damage role.

1st  for me will be Gadget - Dual Pistols or Rifle - acrobatic  and Villan ( joker )

This is almost exactly what I'm doing first. The only difference is that I will eventually be dual pistols and rifle.

I used a 360 controller for a couple of play sessions and it worked great for the combat side and world interaction / navigation. Menu navigation was bearable, but not as straightforward as a kb/mouse. I didn't test out the ability to use the controller for combat and the kb for regular menuing, but I suppose that would be the way to go.

In the end, I'm sticking with my Belkin N52 and Logitech trackball.

"While CCP, the company behind EVE Online, continues to push the boundaries of MMO technology with its single server game, their hardware isn’t what impressed MMO fans this year, rather it was the addition in the Tyrannis expansion of planetary interaction, expanding the scope of the game by allowing space-based players to interact with the planets that up until now have simply been window dressing to the space only game."

Ok, I don't play Eve, so maybe I'm missing something here. But according to the article, it is innovative because it finally, after seven years, is allowing players to interact with the environment?!?

I agree that nothing this year stood out in the way of innovation, but something tells me that "most innovative" was a misnomer this year.

I was planning on playing a trooper from the get-go, but when they announced the Vangaurd (ranged tank), I was truly sold.

But yeah, the blast cannon...........

So the fact that Blizz makes fun of the cow level in Diablo would be completely inappropriate too huh?  Blizz ALWAYS takes jabs.  To say that it started with Wrath would be a HUGE understatement.  For example, the entire Nessingwary line of quests.  You REALLY think Blizz came up with some of that stuff on their own?  No.  And THAT's been there since Vanilla.  And for that matter WHY can't their be a Harrison Jones or the like exist in the game world?  If stupid/silly/funny people exist in this world, it is completely accurate and plausible that similar things could exist in another world.

People will find ANYTHING possible to complain about.

This.

If running into a character named Harisson Jones or Haris Pilton breaks your immersion, it's because you allowed/wanted it to.

Tomorrow is the end of beta and the "Battle of the Legends" event.  I have to admit, I expected one more patch for us to test, but it ain't gonna happen. I also hoped the "event" would last more than a day, but oh well; hopefully I'll get to see at least a portion of it.

Hoping for the best and waiting for launch day.

Trooper first. Agent second. Then BH and Jedi at some point.
