Timesink. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I went with somewhat important because if crafting is in-game, and is fun, I'll do it. However, I don't think not having crafting is a gamebreaker.

Example: STO has crafting, but it's not fun so I don't partake. DCUO doesn't have crafting and I'm good with that as well.

If someone were to make me a good G.I. Joe mmo, I could see how crafting could enhance that game, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if it wasn't include.

Before any of ya try to claim that they zerged to the top and surely didn't stop to smell the roses, tell me what the roses are?  Feats, as the OP suggested?  What is the content that grants you those?

Yes, the game is content-lite, but not in the same way STO was at launch. In STO, to hit cap you would have seen every storyline mission in the game. In DCUO, once you hit cap there are still a bunch of missions that you won't have completed or maybe even had access to. Not to mention another faction with different content to level through.

In beta, I tried to make it a point to reach cap without leaving my starting city and it is possible (admittedly, it does take some work). That leaves one whole city to level through with that faction.

It's called "fairness". It used to be a concept people actually cared about in-game.

Why should MY hour in the game bring me any less progress than the hour of someone who can afford to pay for an XP boost?

My argument basically ran like this:

Assume the total number of hours required to reach top level is 200.

If I play 8 hours a day, I'll get there 25 days. If someone else plays for 16 hours a day, they'll get there in 12.5 days. If someone ELSE only plays for 2 hours a day, they'll get there in 100 days. However, the actual playing time to reach that level is the same for everyone. This is the way most things work. If you play tennis for 10 hours a day, I can't reasonably expect to keep to the same level as you if I only play for 2 hours.

You say it doesn't matter because "it's only PvE" but why should I have to invest more hours to reach the same goal than someone who has money, just because I don't? Is my time worth less than theirs? We both pay the same monthly fee after all. What if I happen to have an extremely busy life and can only play for an hour a day, but can't afford to buy these boosts? Do I have to consign myself to being treated like a second-class citizen by the actual game engine, just because I have no extra money to pump into it?

I guess that's the difference between the way I see things and the way the narcissistic generation see them. I would never expect to achieve parity with someone without putting equal effort into it. I'll never be as good a racing driver because I don't drive as often as them. I don't envy them because of it. I don't expect people to make allowances for me because I can't spare the time to drive as often as they do.

And before you say "it's only levelling, it's not like it's a skill" I would argue that being able to level efficiently IS a skill, it has to be learned and trained just like any other. My metric is in-game level, your metric is skill level. They're both equally valid metrics, but apparently it's ok to pay to get ahead on mine because it doesn't necessarily involve competing with other people?

So you don't mind the fact that the person playing 2 hours a day will pay 2 more months sub fees than a person who plays 16 hours a day to get to the same level, but you don't think they should be able to spend more money to level faster?

Is this one of those "F'em if they can't put in the time" arguments?

Yeah, have to agree. The action brawler style combat fits the super hero theme so much better and CO tried to utilize it but just couldn't cut it. DCUO has the combat I've been craving in a super hero MMO for a good while now lol. 

 

Some like it some don't, just how it goes.

just wait till you get higher lvl/combos and you are doing clickX9 clickXhold for a single move....insane crappy combos.

 

There aren't any 9 click combos... 5 clicks tops.

At the end of beta, I was testing a dual wield character. One of the first combos I could train was a 9 click and hold combo. I didn't run that character past level 6.

Just from listening to the devs and reading between the lines, I get the feeling that the first couple of month's additional content may already be complete. At some point, a monthly release schedule will catch up to them and they will fall behind. At that point, the community will cry foul, so it is in their best interest to have content stored up ready for release.

The only weapon I remember from beta having a 9-strike combo was dual wield, and it was actally a natural-feeling combo. Are there others as well?

As a kid, I was completely facinated by the RotJ speederbikes, and I would love to have something like that in-game. WIth a game set in a technologically-advanced galaxy, the inclusion of ground "mounts" for players seems like a no-brainer. But, in the end, if the questing areas aren't big enough to warrant the inclusion of mounts, then I hope they don't get shoehorned in just because every other game has them.

Really? A seven year old MMO has more content than a game that launced yesterday?

It's interesting to note that he says it will take roughly 5 hours to earn a piece of T1 gear. In beta, the last calculations were that it would take upwards of 12 hours to earn each piece.

With the exception  of the servers  being available  about an hour late,  things went  very  smoothly  for me,  only had one issue during my few hours of creation and gameplay.

For me after every instance cutscene,  my sound would disappear,  would have to relog  to get it back

Otherwise  very smooth  launch  for me personally

Glad to hear you had a good time. I decided not to take the day off because I was worried about server instability and the possibility of not being able to play much. Nice to hear my fears were unfounded.

I did see on the official forums that one of the servers did crash for a few minutes, but other than that it seems to have been smooth so far.

Awesome mate, so what can we expect from the trinket slot?

Not totally sure. Early in beta there were some teleportation trinkets, I think a few of those are still in-game. The main ones I used were heal trinkets with restoration bonus.

Honestly? You should be reporting this on the official board and trying to get dev help over there. Not sure you're going to find what you seek here.

Yes, if you want to tank, you'll have to choose Fire or Ice power set.

The devs made it very clear on the beta forums that the beta client and the retail client were NOT THE SAME.

Ya, I'm hoping 13G is not the launch-day-patch, but rather the digital download. My initial beta download was 15G though with several large patches later, so who knows.
