The majority of the quest NPCs are pretty bad, although not the worse I have heard. Mark Hamill as the Joker is amazing though. I've played this game is beta and he is the reason why I chose the Joker as my mentor.

Edit: now that I think about it, the quality of the voiceovers is more noticable when you have a people like Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy doing voice overs for two characters, and then you hear the rest and they aren't even on the same level.

thats what i meant :) i didnt pick it up post beta, wasnt my type of game, but the quest npcs compared to the main characters voice are what made me notice how bad those quest character voices were.

Underlined: You reallize that up until the last patch in beta, a large portion of dialog was still placeholder voices, right? Some of those were quite bad because the devs =/= voice actors.

Personally, I like the voices, for the most part. I'm not totally sold on Adam Baldwin for Superman, but it's not terrible. Gina Torres voices WonderWoman, btw, and I find that her portrayal of WW fits rather fine with the portrayals of the character that I'm familiar with (comic, jlu, animated movie). Summer Glau's Supergirl feels right as does James Marsters' Lex. The dude voicing Calculator is also superb. Throw in Wil Wheaton as Robin, Arleen Sorkin as Harley and Dwight Shultz as Flash.......

Honestly, I'm really suprised to hear people complain about the voice work in this game. Of all the shortcommings that can be hammered on, this certainly isn't one of them. But I guess to each their own.

Healers?

The game does have healers,  you'd be able to go either nature or sorcery.  Sorcery has some awesome abilities at the higher levels,  Nature is pretty awesome too,  and i prefer it,  but I've seen some sorcery healers really lay down some extended heals and they can get help from pets by going in the summoning tree.

Its really a matter of preference though,  I played a sorcery healer for a bit in beta, and just wasn't very good,  but I can keep teams alive as a nature healer.   With others, they may not play nature very well.  You'll only truly know after you've had the chance to try them both.

I also saw some really good sorcery healers, but I could never get the hang of it. I will, however, be making a nature character because I found it to be quite fun in beta.

As I've only played from the villian side, I'll lay it out from that perspective.

The mission is given by a Sinestro Corps member outside the midtown nightclub by Centennial Park. There are yellow and green power batteries strung out around Lex Corp tower. For the villians, there is a manhunter robot lying broken on the road. As a villian, I can pick up yellow batteries and place them around the Manhunter to revive it. If the Manhunter is revived before the heroes do their thing, the villians win. I can also disrupt the heroes by clicking on the green batteries to make them go away.

Even on a PvE server, you have to be flagged to participate. The winning side will have a special vendor show up with unique weapons and such for purchase (requireing PvP influence/marks).

There is a mission to participate in the battle and to kill 5(?) opponents no less than 5 levels below yours. This mission grants the PvP mark like arenas.

hmm, I never saw this robot, I only founded the green lantern...

It still dont change the fact that is a gankfest tho...

What PvP event is not?

I've been on both sides of the fight (winner and loser). It all depends on who feels like slugging it out at the time.

Timesink. Nothing more. Nothing less.

I went with somewhat important because if crafting is in-game, and is fun, I'll do it. However, I don't think not having crafting is a gamebreaker.

Example: STO has crafting, but it's not fun so I don't partake. DCUO doesn't have crafting and I'm good with that as well.

If someone were to make me a good G.I. Joe mmo, I could see how crafting could enhance that game, but I wouldn't be heartbroken if it wasn't include.

What's disturbing is that this game already has people embarking on the endgame only one day after release.  Most casual players will be hitting level cap in less than 2 weeks playing time.  Leveling quickly in DCUO almost cannot be avoided - the only way to avoid it is not to play, which defeats the purpose.

The pacing of DCUO, in my opinion, is absurd with regard to long-term playability as a themepark game, unless there is a massive amount of diverse and deep activities at endgame.  What remains to be seen is how deep that endgame experience actually is out of the gate, because people have already started it, and the rest won't be far behind.

Yep, to me that's the 862,000 pound Gorrilla in the room.  While they've surely been probably playing nonstop since launch, compare that to STO.  STO is content-lite at 80 hours, here we have... 20-ish???

Before any of ya try to claim that they zerged to the top and surely didn't stop to smell the roses, tell me what the roses are?  Feats, as the OP suggested?  What is the content that grants you those?

Yes, the game is content-lite, but not in the same way STO was at launch. In STO, to hit cap you would have seen every storyline mission in the game. In DCUO, once you hit cap there are still a bunch of missions that you won't have completed or maybe even had access to. Not to mention another faction with different content to level through.

In beta, I tried to make it a point to reach cap without leaving my starting city and it is possible (admittedly, it does take some work). That leaves one whole city to level through with that faction.

Do you really put value on your time in game? If so it is really sad and I dont understand why you play. IMO it should be one of two: You enjoy the game and play. You only grind/dont enjoy the game and you quit.

It's called "fairness". It used to be a concept people actually cared about in-game.

Why should MY hour in the game bring me any less progress than the hour of someone who can afford to pay for an XP boost?

My argument basically ran like this:

Assume the total number of hours required to reach top level is 200.

If I play 8 hours a day, I'll get there 25 days. If someone else plays for 16 hours a day, they'll get there in 12.5 days. If someone ELSE only plays for 2 hours a day, they'll get there in 100 days. However, the actual playing time to reach that level is the same for everyone. This is the way most things work. If you play tennis for 10 hours a day, I can't reasonably expect to keep to the same level as you if I only play for 2 hours.

You say it doesn't matter because "it's only PvE" but why should I have to invest more hours to reach the same goal than someone who has money, just because I don't? Is my time worth less than theirs? We both pay the same monthly fee after all. What if I happen to have an extremely busy life and can only play for an hour a day, but can't afford to buy these boosts? Do I have to consign myself to being treated like a second-class citizen by the actual game engine, just because I have no extra money to pump into it?

I guess that's the difference between the way I see things and the way the narcissistic generation see them. I would never expect to achieve parity with someone without putting equal effort into it. I'll never be as good a racing driver because I don't drive as often as them. I don't envy them because of it. I don't expect people to make allowances for me because I can't spare the time to drive as often as they do.

And before you say "it's only levelling, it's not like it's a skill" I would argue that being able to level efficiently IS a skill, it has to be learned and trained just like any other. My metric is in-game level, your metric is skill level. They're both equally valid metrics, but apparently it's ok to pay to get ahead on mine because it doesn't necessarily involve competing with other people?

So you don't mind the fact that the person playing 2 hours a day will pay 2 more months sub fees than a person who plays 16 hours a day to get to the same level, but you don't think they should be able to spend more money to level faster?

Is this one of those "F'em if they can't put in the time" arguments?

I honestly cant understand people that like CO and CoH that dont like this game. I guess its the twitch combat itself cuz thats really the only difference.

The graphics are better, the use of powers is much better because the combat system is far better (in my opinion of course).

Im playing CO right now because Target sucks fat nads and didnt get our DCUO pre-orders.

CoH and CO are very cool, but the combat alone drives me nuts, i want to play a super power game, not world of warcraft with super hero characters.

DCUO combat knocks these other 2 games out of the park. :p

Yeah, have to agree. The action brawler style combat fits the super hero theme so much better and CO tried to utilize it but just couldn't cut it. DCUO has the combat I've been craving in a super hero MMO for a good while now lol.

Some like it some don't, just how it goes.

DCUO for me > COX and CO, others may feel different though.

just wait till you get higher lvl/combos and you are doing clickX9 clickXhold for a single move....insane crappy combos.

There aren't any 9 click combos... 5 clicks tops.

At the end of beta, I was testing a dual wield character. One of the first combos I could train was a 9 click and hold combo. I didn't run that character past level 6.

Just from listening to the devs and reading between the lines, I get the feeling that the first couple of month's additional content may already be complete. At some point, a monthly release schedule will catch up to them and they will fall behind. At that point, the community will cry foul, so it is in their best interest to have content stored up ready for release.

Umm huh

The only weapon I remember from beta having a 9-strike combo was dual wield, and it was actally a natural-feeling combo. Are there others as well?

As a kid, I was completely facinated by the RotJ speederbikes, and I would love to have something like that in-game. WIth a game set in a technologically-advanced galaxy, the inclusion of ground "mounts" for players seems like a no-brainer. But, in the end, if the questing areas aren't big enough to warrant the inclusion of mounts, then I hope they don't get shoehorned in just because every other game has them.

Really? A seven year old MMO has more content than a game that launced yesterday?

It's interesting to note that he says it will take roughly 5 hours to earn a piece of T1 gear. In beta, the last calculations were that it would take upwards of 12 hours to earn each piece.

Mine was pretty freakin good i gotta say,  Ordered  from D2D  was preloaded  and ready to go

With the exception  of the servers  being available  about an hour late,  things went  very  smoothly  for me,  only had one issue during my few hours of creation and gameplay.

For me after every instance cutscene,  my sound would disappear,  would have to relog  to get it back

Otherwise  very smooth  launch  for me personally

Glad to hear you had a good time. I decided not to take the day off because I was worried about server instability and the possibility of not being able to play much. Nice to hear my fears were unfounded.

I did see on the official forums that one of the servers did crash for a few minutes, but other than that it seems to have been smooth so far.

Awesome mate, so what can we expect from the trinket slot?

Not totally sure. Early in beta there were some teleportation trinkets, I think a few of those are still in-game. The main ones I used were heal trinkets with restoration bonus.

Honestly? You should be reporting this on the official board and trying to get dev help over there. Not sure you're going to find what you seek here.
