Actually ..  there is NO content. Have run out of quests at lv. 18 with my highest alt. None avaiable anywhere. Oh, yes, I could go to other cities doing low level quests. :-) But anyway it is not my concern anymore, stopped to play faster then any other game. Even TR have been playing for at least 2 weeks. Will follow still from time to time forums ... but FF ARR is for me thing of past. Totally unfun to play. Sure, music and environment made me very happy at start, I again felt that great FF feeling ... but I'm not playing game where this is all about.

LOL...really? I'm 22 right now and there are so many quests to do I don't know where to start. The main quest line is still going strong.....perhaps you should ask for some help :)

Crafting is optional and not compulsory. For someone who claims to be playing MMOS for years you haven't learned a simple fact that not all players are the same. Some like  crafting, others prefer gathering while others just enjoy the combat. Only because they gave no interest in leveling crafting class doesn't mean they are not playing it right.

So for players who have no interest in other actvities and want to enjoy combat and leveling they are left twidling their thumbs at lvl 50. Don't be surprised if population is in sharp decline after free month is over.

I doubt that seriously - not everyone rushes to 50 and stands around with the thumbs up there arses. I've been playing video games since Pong came out so I have some mileage and this game has A LOT going for it and will be around for some time to come. Combat only players will cycle through and go to something else leaving behind a good community of well-rounded players.

Personal estates and instanced neighboorhoods are coming next update which will further ensure this games long term success. This is the best MMO I've played since the early days of MMO's - period.

I'm sure they'll do something about the gold spamming soon (and it IS awful) and while I originally joined a U.S. server (Ultros) SE was nice enough to transfer me to a Japanese server. So now...along with the gold spammers I get to look at cool Japanese writing I can'y understand.

I keep getting the urge to say konnichiwa to everyone :)

What exactly are you thinking about?  is it so complicated that you need time to think about your next move.  And another question,  some say that the combat speeds up later on in the game.  So does that mean you need less time to think about it the higher you level up?

 

So many conflicting replies in this thread.

My thoughts exactly, no need to repeat what has already been well said.

Again im having fun but the challenge and the speed of leveling is a blemish to me . Anyone else feel the same?

It's like this in every MMO that comes out - players race to level cap by skipping all the content and in this case grinding "Fates" to level quickly. If SE made it so it would take hard core levelers more than a week to hit end cap they'd be complaining it was a grind.

How about actually PLAYING the game...enjoying the story..do all the quests...hell maybe even *gasp* craft! The really bright point of FF ARR is the crafting system. I feel sorry for those players who only do combat and skip the rest of the game.

You like to rent your minions monthly. There is  no way in hell I would pay a box fee and then a monthly rental to collect minions I get to pay rent on monthly.  I don't like to rent my games or the minions therein.

Long live you renting your games and long live me not renting the games I play.

I'm with the OP on this one. I would much rather pay rent for an apartment on Park Ave than live for free at the homeless shelter.

Combat is fun and is not a button mashing fest like some games. The global cooldown actually makes you "think" before just randomly hitting buttons. The slower style appeals to me but some may not like it.

Quality and scope of the games never got better over the last 10 years. These Developers almost pushed the adults (w/money) out of the marketplace, as they pursue the easy cheap games for whales.

I am quite sure that a Developer will come along and charge $50 for a Premium MMORPG, with real GM's and give a premium experience. And these kids will still beat their heads, screaming they shouldn't make one, because they can't afford it.

 

There is nothing correct in what you wrote.

Pushing adults out? If you look at any statistics at all, from any possible source, and there are many independent sources that done the research, you will see, that adults dominate in todays mmo's demography even more than ever in the last 10 years. So where did you pull out your facts from?

Quality never got better over last 10 years? I won't even comment on that.

And another assumption that expensive game automatically equals mature community, which is wrong on many levels. Since kids are minority in mmorpgs now, and most of the bad behaviour you see in games is actually made by adult people that are far away from being mature, but like to claim they are, and put themselves higher than everyone else. While I know many kids that play games, that are more civilized, smart and mature than many adults. Thinking in stereotypes is for old people, that refuse to learn and develop themselves, because they already think they know it all. I would even argue how much influence on bad social aspect of game have grumpy old men that play those games and keep complaining and demanding, and having the mentality "I want what I paid for damn you".

People that love to craft and create their own cities in SWG loved the game (like me) and those who were mostly combat hated it...but like it or now SWG was a brilliant game that had some flaws and I wish it were still around. It was simply the most fun I ever had in an MMO.


Yet the game failed, and while you can keep saying anything you want about why it failed and that it wasn't fault of the original mechanics etc. it is only an opinion and there is no possible way to prove why the game really failed and if it would fail or not if it kept it's original form. No one will know that, and the only certain thing is that it failed.

The game 's reputation was damaged by SOE's NGE fiasco but the main reason it's plug was pulled was SOE didn't want to renew it's IP contract with LucasArts which was probably too much. There would still be people playing if it wasn't for that...myself included.

Ummm, no, not even close. ToR tried to do what was probably the most controlled rolling start in MMO history, and the playerbase shit bricks and tried to eat them alive over it.

 

Early access was staggered exactly to try and avoid some of the problems FFXIV ARR had, and and guilds were assigned servers in an effort to try and keep server populations balanced. It didn't work, and, given the nature of the MMO playing population, probably couldn't work, but it was a decent effort and pretty much the opposite of a "money grab".

 

 

Bioware/EA made their $$ up front - plain and simple. The game was mega hyped to be the 2nd coming and people lapped it up. After the 1st month subs dropped DRAMATICALLY and never recovered which is why it went F2P. On top of that...they charged almost twice as much than FF did. 

I can forgive a rough launch if the game is really good and SWTOR ain't...plain and simple. I still want my $$ back for that garbage - 2 Deluxe Editions worth!

You think 53 full servers at launch is a joke?

 

Name another game that had 53 completely full servers at launch and had to suspend sales until they could get the capacity to handle them all.  I can think of two games.

I didn't count them. Probably more than 53 servers. They weren't all full, but many of them were. They didn't have to suspend sales because they could roll out new servers fast enough to keep up with demand (a novel idea, I know).

GW2 had close to 50 servers at launch (I think they have 51 now), and they have this nifty overflow ability so that if your server is full, you can still log in and play on a non-full server.

There were 88 US servers, with additional EU/OC servers available. no additional servers were added until several months later - although some of the more popular servers were full right after launch. WoW I don't think had digital sales when it first released.

Now with all of that linked above, I hesitate to say it, but look where they all are now - it's all over the place. WoW is probably the only one to grow beyond that, GW2 has held steady (but it's only been out for a year), while Rift and SWTOR are both down to nearly single-digit servers.

SWTOR rolled out all those new servers and then had at least 2 server merges, with more than 2 servers being pushed together.  It's for that reason, I can understand SE not wanting to just drop 10 new servers and open up sales.  They probably are missing some sales and permanently losing some customers, but it shows that they are not going for the initial money grab and are thinking more long term.

That's exactly right - EA/Bioware went with the initial money grab with little thought for long term (IMO) which is why the game is mostly dead now. FF won't lose money...these same people that are whining right now who say they'll NEVER play this game will the 1st ones to run out and get the game when it's back on the shelves...physical as well as digital.

Why? The game is awesome...that's why and I was initially unhappy about not being able to play last weekend but rather than totally pissing off EVERYONE they opted to halt sales and fix the problem. It's the mark of a company thinking of it's players and not the $$$$.

No..FF ARR is really different than SWTOR - it's FUN...it RUNS SMOOTHLY...graphics are gorgeous...crafting is complex...deep...fun...and matters. Did I mention it's fun and runs really well?

SWTOR also was hyped to the max while FF ARR has taken the MMO community by storm because of word of mouth - which will make or break a game. And I'm a big Star Wars fan...I wish SWTOR would have been 1/2 of what FF ARR turned out to be.

FFXIV reminds me a lot of SWTOR in terms of NPC and over all life. GW2 did much better job at giving life to world and cities.

FFXIV does have very beautiful music and background sounds. If i clsoe my eyes i feel immersed but it fails visually because NPC are like as if cut out of cardboard and glued to one spot.

I find FFXIV to be the least immersive MMO. For me personally a lot more goes into making the world alive than just background sounds.

The game world is not small...especially for a newly launched game. Everyone is entitled to their opinion of the game but saying that the npcs are static or that the world is like SWTOR is FALSE.

Game engine rocks and is smooth and the environment is one of the most beautiful I've seen - weather...lighting you name it. The detail is spectacular across the board - from avatars to animals to landscape to buildings...etc.

Here however I agree fully with you. No matter how many players in same location lag is very minimal or none at all. We have real night/day feeling, weather conditions, .... Best part of game for sure. Imo of course.

One big surprise to me (I'm new to FF) is the story...I find myself really getting into the story. Some cut scenes even have vocals and the voice acting is very well done. Some of the stuff is cutesy but not overdone.

To me ... one of the worst. Silly bubble sistem instead being presented with whole text, one must click and click ... and click ... just to get over boring text (in garbage english normal people do not understand, so i do not even bother to read many times that garbage). And what is also bad idea ... impossible to cancel in middle of dialog to start over ... must again click and click and click ... to get to bottom. Boring as hell and kills any wish to read. As i can see others they do nearly same as me .. just skip all to end.

About voices ... after played swtor any other is just bad, plainly bad. Here all npc's are obviously mute. It feels terible. I'm missing at least some "Hi, friend". But no, just mute.

Now...it's still early on but after playing so many MMO's - and I swore up and down after Star Wars The Old Republic that I was NOT going to buy another game at launch - but I'm glad I did) I can safely give this one a BIG thumbs up!

 

Swtor is my no1, followed by wow. Then ... void for long time.

I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan (no I'm not fat - just a "big fan" hehe) I  really wanted to like SWTOR...I really did. I was in beta...bought 2 Deluxe Editions (one for my wife) but the lifeless terrain...poor server performance issues, combat imbalance and lack of any meaningful crafting made it impossible. The cut scenes were well done but the rest of the game was a "void" in my opinion. 

FF AAB has renewed that "can't wait to wake up and play" feeling...something I haven't had since SWG - my void has lasted way too long. I mean...I'm literally overwhelmed at what to do 1st - the crafting alone will take a LONG time to master. And - the next patch will feature personal estates and instanced neighborhoods - something a lot of people are really looking forward to.

For anyone interested in playing - don't rush to 50 and miss out on the excellent class story...despite not being voiced for every scene - the story is engaging and makes you feel more like a part of the wonderful world they've created.

I like alts...

I like them too...just all on one character :)

The way the game is laid out having the ability to switch jobs/profs is a must. If I'm out mining in a certain place and I realize that I also needed to get some stuff for my Botanist - I don't have to log out...log in with my Botanist and then travel to that spot. Also - if I wish to switch to combat mode while I'm out gathering it just takes a second.

It's one of things that drove me crazy about SWG and you could only have 2 characters per account - which meant you also had to pay for additional accounts if you wanted to add or try a profession. FF AAB got it right and for once a company listened to what the majority of players want. 

Now...if I could just log in...grrrrrr lol

In a month I'll still be working on my crafting profs - endgame means different things to different people.

The next patch introduces neighborhoods and I read that you can have your own estate...decorate it and even have a market outside your front door to sell your wares. 

So it's going to take me quite a while if ever to reach endgame - espoecially when they start adding more stuff..and they will.
