I've only just hit 30 on my Conjuror and am now working on my job class of Arcanist...I'm at level 9. There is so much to do with crafting I don't know where to even begin.

I do play about 8 hours a day but I choose to sleep also :)

What is all this stuff to do? When I keep hearing that by your third job grind you have little option but to grind fates, I have a hard time believing a game has a decent amount of content in place.

So many mixed messages one side saying there's tons to do, while another says there is not, not to mention the double standard that's showing up in regard to this game compared to others that were mentioned by the OP. As this game does share a lot in common with those titles in terms of launch content, world size,  or lack there of, invisible walls, WOWification, gear grinds etc.... These "issues" were exactly what earned those games the reputation they got at their launch. Yet in this case all of that stuff is just fine and dandy.

I gave the game a shot and stated it's enjoyable in my impressions of it, but my concern has always been, what sets it apart enough that will allow it to overcome the dreaded three month exodus all others like it have seen since around 06-07.

There needs to be a game where it takes a freaking year to level cap for those "hardcore we never sleep" players. Oh..but then it would be too much of a grind game. Fates are not the ONLY things to do in FF ARR...combat is not the only thing to do in this game - and a LOT of us players like doing stuff other than combat.

There is NO FREAKING WAY that anyone can say they've "finished the game" if all you did was fate grind a character up to 50 and if that's all you did there's no way any MMO coming out today will satisfy you. I have yet to see anyone on this forum name ANY MMO that is perfect and everything they've ever wanted.

The game is fun...polished and has a very strong foundation for the future. I think all of these "experts" need to pool their resources together and show everyone how it's done - make your own MMO.

Very thoughtful argument.

In case of P2P MMOS i don' think one needs a crystal ball because history is proof enough. And FFXIV's problems are exactly same of that of SWTOR..a very weak end game with promises of 'more to come in future' while expecting that players will keep paying the sub.

Think of the warnings by the hardcore players as sort of a prophecy for the rest of you. Sooner or later you'll come to the same conclusions about the game, will just take you longer to appreciate it's shortcomings.

If I remember correctly...the hardcore players also said GW2 was the 2nd..3rd and 4th coming. I'm not an "elitist" player but I'm a long time vet of MMO's and I think the doom and gloom crowd are jumping the gun just a bit.

Please excuse my language, but you hardcore players are annoying as hell.

There is more than enough content in the f*cking game, if you didn't play the game 24/7 you could easily see that. You race to end game and exploit any thing you can find ( in this game, "Fates") then you b*tch when you get to end game. F*ck, take time out and enjoy the game. Don't come to the forums and whine because you been playing the game 24/7 since release! Your messing up the game for normal players.

Reading all these negative comments about the game, I almost didn't even give it a chance. I went out on a limb and bought the game anyways, and to my surprise ITS GREAT. Don't let these hardcore gamers with and negative people stray you from a great game,

He's right...don't listen to all the doomsayers....check out the game for MMO in years!

Being a vet of SWG I can safely say that FF ARR has the best crafting system since SWG and with housing coming up and future updates it will only get better.

Don't pay any attention to all the troll doomsayers - this game is fun...alive and will be around for quite a while.

I agree the world right now doesn't feel massive, but It's very detailed, beautiful and smooth.  In exchange we have a nice night/day cycle and awesome weather system :)

I am guessing the first expansion will expand the world quite a bit.

Anyways I think it's better this way than huge lifeless mass lands empty and bland.

You didn't have to play 1.0, your post is exactly how fans used to post during 1.0. So it gave me a deja vu feeling and we know how things went after couple of months. When people start wishing for people to leave and how it will make community lot better it just raises all kind of red flags. Seen it happening so many times.

I didn't say I "wish" players would leave - I said that we don't need players like that. There are other games out there for the hardcore gamer elitists - the rest of us are thrilled with what SE has done and are looking forward to the upcoming content.

It's going to take me at least another month to finish leveling my crafting profs alone...maybe. I take my time and am enjoying the ride.

The game is a lot of fun, and really well made - sure there are obviously problems, but for me - I have become perfectly 100% comfortable with the idea of not-subbing after my free month is up and waiting until I can try the game on PS4 early next year.

It just... I was so hooked and had that constant drive to log in and play... but then it was gone. Just "poof" vanish.

I have long way left to get to that point XD.

Got lv27 lancer(main), lv27 archer, lv27 puglist. Got five crafting professions at lv30, three at lv25-27, got botanist at lv26, miner at lv26.

I think I would honestly dislike backtracking, that's why I level all "together" so to speak. Hardest to level are definitely the botanist and miner; so those are the ones "slowing" me down XD.

I don't think I would like rushing a crafting class to 50, while the rest are far behind. I am done for today, but my goal tomorrow is to get the three remaining crafting classes to lv30; need to collect bomb ash trough lv26 miner to get those mats and simultaneously get some exp on my miner. Of course I calculate so that I collect just enough bomb ash to get my armorer and blacksmith to lv30 through crafting steel ingots (steel ingot = 2 x iron ore + 1 x bomb ash); after that I need to use leves to level my gathering classes:/. I do not like selling gathering materials on the AH.

I think my playstyle is very enjoyable. This way, I am never feeling that I "outlevel" stuff. I practically always play in full HQ gear. I refuse to use any gear that isn't crafted by me.

I notice that I run out of quest on my main rather easily; so I intend to let my Lancer gain exp from all quests while my archer and puglist are mainly leveled through dungeons and leves. Which reminds me that I need to get my lancer to 28 through questing so that my archer and puglist can get the 50% exp bonus from mobs and fates.

If I skipped the gathering classes, I would be so much higher level on remaining classes XD.

That's how I am also.

It's funny because there is this "rush to max level guys!", and clearly people do that and clearly they will complain about it. But if the game was a time sink and the grind was hard then people would make a post about the grind. In the end, there really is a smaller group of hardcore players that grind out the content and complain. But if they made it so that those hardcore players took months to get to 50, the average player would take damn near a year to get to max level. And considering their main player base will be the casual players, they are focusing on pleasing them.

My main issue with the game, and I thought I could look past it, is the lack of competition and intensity when questing. I really do miss some open world pvp competition.

Agreed. I play very often - everyday for at least 6-8 hours and my character is only combat level 27 and I have each of the crafting and gathering profs up to 20-24 with the exception of Alchemy, Fishing and Culinarian. If you got to 50 with one tradeskill done - you HAVE NOT done all the content the game has to offer...period.

Issue #1: Crafting is utterly useless

As I got my LTW to 50, I had a sense of relief. "Alright, I'm done with THAT part of the game..." I thought to myself. I figured with my newfound craft, I'd be able to start making money almost immediately in the game. There is just one small problem; there is no demand for hardly anything. Gear, which should be utilized to a degree by all classes, isn't necessary. Because of the incredible ease of the game, it hasn't been uncommon to see people wearing severely outdated gear throughout the game. I've seen level 40's rocking level 18 armor, and to no real penalty. Since there's no reason for combat classes to buy gear, there's no reason to craft combat gear. Furthermore, combat classes can get gear cheaper/free, and easier simply by doing quests and dungeons. Furthermore, due to Issue#2, people are leveling so fast and efficiently that there's no reason to EVER buy gear! In fact, the irony of crafting +gathering and +crafting gear is that the only people who buy it is fellow crafters and gatherers. Essentially, you're creating gear for crafting because it's mandatory, but crafting has no purpose other than to build more crafting gear...and, of course, materia melding. I basically spent all my gil buying crystals and ingredients to level a craft which is now essentially worthless. Also, since no one needs to buy anything... there is no economy. Gil is essentially used to skilling up a craft, or repairing your end game gear. That's it. And once you lose it, it's 10x harder to make it back, because there is ample supply, and meager demand. This is probably related to the fact that...

At level 26 Armorer I have doubled my gil roughly every 4 days of playing (20k > 40k > 80k > 160k.....) by a couple of hours per day of actually trying to make gil. This is at level 26, not even level 50.

Issue #1: Players create imaginary issues to make it seem like the problem is not on their end.

Interesting. Your reply had anything to with what he was trying to say. He gave some solid points regarding crafting being nothing more than a time and gil sink and all you did was show how much gil you are making everyday.

Issue #1 ; People on these forum do selective reading.

Posts like these give me such a  deja vu feeling from 1.0. Sigh..some people just never learn even though history keeps repeating itself over and over again.

You're one to talk when all you care about is combat and FATE leveling lol. That's about the most shallow and average part of the game so at least I agree with you there. If that's all you care about and how easy it is then you will never be satisfied in any of the upcoming games. You will just endlessly and hopelessly complain. If that was all that matters to you in an MMO then I agree - you shouldn't have bought the game. Stop thinking you're special and immune to the "honeymoon phase" - some people unlike you look beyond the combat and loot. You're just the average gamer seeking a pinata that doesn't exist.

What you're looking for isn't an MMO. Unless you call a gear tread mill an MMO, then maybe you're right. The problem with that attitude is that kind of game comes to a complete stop once you're done with all the challenges. You completely dismiss how the game's emphasis in crafting makes it a cut above the rest of the more recent MMOs. You disregard how that same emphasis thrives on player activity trading that aids in building the community.

Not to mention personal housing and Free Company Housing that comes With Patch 2.1 , which will give the community even more Tools to build upon.

Housing will be a big boom to the game and something most "content locusts" don't take part in - mostly because there's nothing to speed level and it doesn't involve killing something.

With all due respect, this prediction is a bit too early and only applies to content locusts such as yourself. I understand where you are coming from where you are asking for more content NOW. However, you have to consider that not everyone plays the way you do. Some like myself are patiently awaiting the patches to come - Arenas, Golden Saucer, 3-way PVP, housing.

Those changes are bound to come and we accept that it will take time. I respect your opinion and your incessant reminder that "you're a big fan who loves the game with rainbows and butterflies", but that doesn't invalidate that which you are saying is something coming out of lack of patience.

LOL..."content locusts" - I like that :)

I have no sympathy for all of these Fates grinders who skip the story and content to get to 50 and then whine. And the crafting DOES matter - Materia makes the crafted gear the best in game but people are too lazy to figure that out as well.

I'm no FF ARR fanboy - this is the 1st time I've played a FF title but it's the best MMO I've played in years. All of the "content locusts" will run off leaving a decent community of great players and quite frankly...we don't need or want that kind of player.

Great Read OP, So glad I am sitting on the bench on this one and waiting to see how it looks a few months down the road before I commit, although it is not looking good.

The game has just started and will just get better - this is NOT a game that will fail in the long term. I've played enough MMO's to know when I'm playing a gem - and this one is.

Housing coming up and much more stuff planned will keep players subbed and the game community thriving. All the rush to end cap one dimensional players will go to the next thing - it's always been that way.

When you can play a game like it's your job then yeah you might go through the content much faster than the rest of us. Theres always that small elite group in every game that essentially beats the game in 1 month. You can't design your game around these folks because no matter how hard you think you've made the game someone will always beat it in astosinling speed.

This ^

They could just add more loot chests around the world for people to find. I'm hoping they're working on something else besides dailies also - already have that with Leves.

Despite some interesting twists, at the end of the day it's pretty much a standard theme park MMO that follows the designs of the past 8 years or so.

Which is why I won't be playing it, regardless how well it might be made, I'm personally burned out on this model. (reading through the gear score thread really drove it home for me)

So ask yourself what you are looking for, if it's a largely different gaming experience this will not be the title you want.

But if you want a newer version of WOW based around the FF IP this is probably a great choice.

This is a very inaccurate statement. Wow's crafting is boring and FF ARR's  graphics are FAR superior while still performing as well as Wow. The game will soon have housing which Wow has never implemented.

Also - the community this far has been a HUGE improvement over Wow's infantile player base. While some of the components of the game (dungeons, raids quests etc) are similar to Wow - the overall game is not.

LOL yep - we Americans tend to think the world revolves around our schedule.

The only REAL problem for anyone wanting to play right now is actually "buying" the game - it's off the market until SE thinks the servers can handle it. I have NO problems with the server performance problems...just smooth!

If you want a fast paced game this is not for you. If you want an older style MMO which actually has something else to do than kill kill kill - this is for you.

Crafting is a BIG part of this game as will be housing when it's released next patch. Not everyone wants to just do dungeons and raids. IMO that's why so many MMO's fail - not enough variety of non-combat activities.

I have already registered the game for 6 month subscription.

I love the crafting.

I love the gathering.

I love the music.

I love the dungeon design and unlike other games, I don't mind doing them repeatedly.

I am waiting for Housing where I can make furniture or get furniture by beating content.

I am waiting for the PvP.

Golden Saucher sounds a lot of fun, ESPECIALLY if they can give us a deep and satisfying card game.

I can't wait for more specializations to be added to the classes I already have at 50.

Yep...this ^
