Even if there were housing in 2.1, its to little.. to late..

Most people have moved on. The die hard FF players and the bored are the only ones left. By Bored, I mean those who have absolutely nothing else to play so FFXIV becomes the lesser of the evils.

FFXIV had so much of an opportunity to be a great game. Low expectations of population, by the devs led to a horrible launch. Poor vision of end game led to zero replayablity.

FFXIV has a great engine. Its a stunning game graphically and the crafting system will change the future of MMO Genre. That's it though. The Combat system was more than clunky, it was downright painful. There was zero mob AI to speak of.

I could go on, but there isn't really a point in continuing to kick a dead horse.

Those of you still playing I wish you the best, but as for myself I think Im going to try to learn to speak Korean =)
Archeage Korea.. Here I come.

I like how you present this as fact. >.>

lol - I agree...I was in a queue this evening to get in.

Instanced pvp? :( I was reading about the game to see if I may want to buy it. Seeing that for pvp is sad though. I don't like being crammed into an instanced pvp area like the arenas/bgs in WoW. Open pvp is best for me.

Still reading a bit more about the game before deciding.

The game is obviously slanted toward PVE and crafting but there will be larger scale PVP coming up:

Frontlines

Frontlines is designed for large scale PvP battles and will feature epic battles between the three city-states of Gridania, Limsa Lominsa and Ul'dah as they battle for control over some newly discovered ancient ruins and the secrets within. Unlike The Wolves' Den you will be open to attack as long as you are in the zone; if you are in it then you are part of the battle.

So, back on topic, yes 5 50's and soon another(non legacy player) Some may say i've burnt myself out but that isn't my fault, it's the games for not offering enough content. Running AK 8 times a week and doing coil once a week get's old. Don't  even want to get started on the 1-2-3 crafting.

At least the graphics are nice

If you have that many 50's then there aren't that many MMO's out there that will satisfy you long term....start on the next one :)

SE should stay focused on PvE content, it's what most FF fans are primarily interested in and will be the game's best chance for long term success.

Unless you can offer a PvP experience that's at least on par with games like GW2 and WoW (both of which are still far from amazing), don't waste the development resources on it.

I'm not expecting much from them in the PVP dept but I guess they wanted to throw some kind of PVP at us - not much different from Wow's Arena as far as I can tell. Battlegrounds with PVE objectives would be welcome.....

Stand in the ring and kill each other lol - it's a start :)

It is a fine game for what it is. But not something that will attract and keep people who want more complex. lasting or difficult gameplay.

by that I guess you are saying it is not for players who want to do the same raids repeatedly hoping to win the roll for a piece of uber gear that will be outdated when the next raid is released. An lets face \the average MMO raid consists of  tank does this, healer stands there and DD stand over in this spot is not terribly complex gameplay.

Right on the money  +1

Go fuck yourself, SWTOR.

I posted http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=204881 because I loved the PvP game and I wanted to see it get better and more rewarding.

Now it's worse.

In what world is it a good idea to keep new blood out of PvP?  What in the ever-loving fuck could possibly be wrong with the designer who made this decision?

The whole Free-To-Play thing is a lie....it should be called Free-To-Try with restrictions but then no one would try it because they feel everything in life is owed them. Where did this attitude come from that you shouldn't have to pay anything to play a game? How do you think these companies are going to stick around offering free gameplay?

Already have :)

I know to some people, crafting the best gear in the game is all that matters. Speaking for myself, as a gamer who almost exclusively crafts in most mmos, it doesnt matter. Crafting bis is a cherry on top but thats about it. There are so many other facets to a great crafting system and FFXIV has most of them.

I love how people argue if you can't make bis then crafting is useless. So what if raid drops the best gear? So 10% of the population wont buy gear from you? Gee, what ever shall I do with a 90% market share hehe. Not to mention that 10% will be buying melds from you still. And also that 10% goes through way more consumables than the other 90%.

But anyway, forest through the tress and all that.

I'm the same as Foom - I mostly craft in games and one aspect of crafting that seems to be ignored is the crafted items for crafters themselves. I sell more HQ Crafting gear than combat hands down. Also - not everyone will be insane and level most of the crafting classes up at the same time like myself - I'm hovering at about level 30 for all crafting classes as well as gathering except for cooking...fishing and Alchemy (which I'll complete at a later time)

I don't buy any mats except the few needed from the professions I haven't mastered yet. My point is - crafting in itself is a huge part of the game...perhaps more so than the combat side....some of us craft just for the sake of crafting. If I decided to buy the mats I needed I would be at 50 across the board by now - but I LIKE to gather my own mats and really don't care about getting to level cap asap. I also have a White Mage at 31 and and Arcanist at 15.

My question to you Op is: Why do you feel your opinion outweigh's both the MMORPG editors and a large majority of players?

Whether or not the game is to your liking has no bearing on how good a game is. It just so happens that a majority of people DO like the game despite your opinion.

Where does the OP state that their opinion outweights anyone else's, including the editors, a majority of players, or anyone else for that matter?

They are voicing an opinion and quite clearly speaking for themselves in their posts. At no point are they saying anything to indicate that they think others should agree with them, or that their opinion carries more weight.

They concede that perhaps they didn't get far enough into the game, and ask people to give info one what they might be missing out on. They show particular interest in the crafting system.

Like someone else I addressed earlier in the thread, you do the game, nor the community no good by attacking people whose posts you clearly didn't read very closely. You do no better by projecting some "agenda" on to them for which there is clearly no evidence.

It would do ARR, and this community, a great deal of good if people would stop being so thin-skinned about the game, stop attacking anyone who voices a negative opinion and, more importantly, actually read and respond to what is actually said, rather than attacking the poster for things that weren't.

I don't think you people appreciate how badly posts like yours, and others, reflect on this game/community. People can spot someone who's cleary a troll, just out to bash/attack something they don't like. They can be dismissed as such without it even being pointed out. But when people who are apparently fans of the game are attacking anyone with a negative opinion, even when no trolling is present, nor even "evident" (such as the OP), that impression sticks. It makes the community of fans seem very intolerant, overly-defensive and rather hostile.

You can't blame FANs for being defensive.  Look at these forums on this website.  All you see these days are toxic haters.  You want FANs to stop being defensive, tell the haters to stop being so offensive.

Bingo!

When they're treating any criticism of the game exactly the same, no matter how it's presented - by attacking the poster - I absolutely can blame them.

It's a matter of actually reading what people are saying, in proper context and responding on the merits of the post. Being immediately hostile toward someone because of "what others have done" is just dishonest and lazy.

And let's not kid ourselves. I've followed and been in this community going back to Alpha (actually, going back to Alpha of 1.0, but that's irrelevant at this point). There have been people quick to rip anyone with a negative opinion to shreds since day 1.

When most threads start with a line like this "Extremely overrated game that brings nothing new to the genre." They are quick to hate on it. Much like people who are "hating" on FFXIV, who in a sense read the first line and are quick to disprove the game as being good.

If people want to be critical then they can present themselves better. Starting off with where you're coming from is a better way to start than being immediately negative. However if people come to defend their position because this is a forum for such things, then he op or any other "opposition" shouldn't belittle the fans.

There are two people that will defend a game, fans and fire starters.

Thank you, couldnt have said it better.

In the title of the post - it's basically saying: "I don't like the game - how can it be rated this high?"

Don't be so thin-skinned and hostile about fans being thin-skinned and hostile :)

I also read many posts about FF ARR not bringing anything "new" to the genre - like this is a prerequisite for a game to be excellent and fun? Wow never brought anything new to the genre - they stole ideas from multiple games and perhaps improved upon those ideas...but they weren't "new".

Play EQ2 (with free new Heroic characters come October 1st you can jump right into endgame and skip most of the boring solo content), Rift, WoW, even AoC, TSW, or SWTOR all games that I personally feel have better and certainly more content than FFXIV.  Definitely not something you'll likely burn through in a month (with maybe the exception of TSW if you play through it quickly).  Wait for Wildstar to come out and hope that succeeds in holding your interest.  If you aren't interested in playing those games there are always plenty of single or smaller multiplayer games to play.

I wouldn't count on new patches in FFXIV to provide a lot of content.  Probably a new dungeon or so that will still require you to farm other dungeons over and over till you can even attempt it (or require you to farm it to attempt another dungeon).  SE's rate of new content in patches is no where near the level of say Arenanet's with Guild Wars 2.  Considering the state of the game now I wouldn't expect housing to be stellar either, especially considering it can't possibly compete with games who devoted more than a "patch" to housing like Rift and EQ2.

I'm amazed at how much you know about FF ARR - especially the part how you know how much content SE releases in patches...considering that this NEW dev team hasn't released one yet. Housing hasn't been released yet and you "wouldn't expect it to be stellar either".

Just amazing.

Unfortunately the dungeons were tier T1 and T2  ,  so it was 5 dungeons I guess .

I wish they considered a similar idea with this game because I really enjoyed running some of the dungeons in FF14  , it would be nice to get a harder mode that had a few extra bosses and harder mechanics .

Did the Devs actually consider that people would get to 50 so fast and become totally bored brain dead of running 1 dungeon 50+ times ?

Did they even want people to sub after the month ?  Im assuming almost everyone has lvl 50 by now .  I guess the real casual players would be reaching 50 soon too .

2 hard modes are already coming in 2.1 (along with a new dungeon).

The game has no recycled dungeons but actual unique dungeons. You simply need to pick your poison because I'm sure there was no bitching about recycled dungeons at lvl50 in Rift ever.

We have also hard data showing that only 15% of the playerbase has hit lvl50 since about a week. Most people have reached somewhere around mid 20's to low 30's.

If only 15-20% of the playerbase has hit L50 so far, then things are not as bad as one would believe if you only ever read these forums.

I'd almost be inclined to mutter about 'the usual suspects', as there always seems to be this crowd who are not here to play the actual MMORPG's, they're just here to 'beat the game' in the shortest possible time after launch, then move on. If that means they can do it in a sub-based game before the sub kicks in, they get bonus points or something...

I know you were kind of joking with this comment but I believe it to be true...

Looks awesome! Hope there will be lots of stuff to load up your house with :)

The exterior customization is a welcome surprise and the interiors look very similar to EQ2's - here's hoping the decorating is as easy.

Back to the grind....needs to make mucho gil!

[mod edit]

Based on the number of hours I've played and I have "most" of the crafting classes at 30+....you already have a job and it's called "Crafting in FF ARR" lol

Also do people really believe they will put out a DX11 patch?  I can't see that happening.

Do I have a reason not to believe? So far everything they've promised has happened. They are not a small devhouse that goes under if investors get stingy.

http://archive.is/JXbe

Tanaka-san:Up until now the problem has been that the graphics parts of it have been published in DirectX 8 but now that we’ve been able to upgrade it to DirectX 9, which is what we are doing right now, this will become available for all of the cards. We hope to have it in by the release of Wings of the Goddess. We think it will be ready.

This was promised in 2007 for ffxi, guess when they added it?  Never.  They promised a DX upgrade and never added it, sound familiar?

I actually played ffxi and waited for this, I remember the anger when they failed to deliver it.

Here is a link to the latest expansion pack that came out in 2013 for ffxi on the official store, scroll down to specs if you want to see that they never did what they said they would with DX upgrade.

FINAL FANTASY XI: SEEKERS OF ADOULIN

Uhh, talking about FFXIV:A Realm Reborn here but oookaaay...

Company promises DX upgrade and more features on a FF MMO and never adds it, they simply state it was too expensive and never mentions it again.

Same company promises a DX upgrade on a new FF MMO and you don't see how what they did in the past is relevent?

Whole new Dev team - there's a reason the other team was FIRED. DX11 would be nice but I think that's a bit nitpicking don't ya think?

Queue was gone around 1 week ago, so population certainly dropped.

Just that there were some new players came in recently after digital sale restart, so log in queue was back again.

We should wait until Nov, that's about time when everyone's free month expires and done with story.

I still get queued logging into my server at primetime.

I'm in a queue right now while reading this....

Longevity a 10?

Take one combat based job to 50, then see how many quest's you have left to level a second combat based job, then, once you have finished grinding fates over and over again, see how much you really feel like levelling a third combat job, never mind all of them.

Even if you pay the sub fee that allows 8 character slots, knowing what grind lays ahead will put many people off making alts.

I figured it wouldn't take many posts until someone had a "cow" over the Longevity score hehe. Every one of these people do NOT mention crafting...at all...like it doesn't exist. There are a LOT of crafters that will have tons to do in preparation for the next patch. The overall score is accurate.
