Glad you like the game man.

Never EVER use MMORPG.com forums to decide if you should try a game or not....if the posters here had any say, we would all be bitter trolls with nothing to play.

Totally agree.

Just a shame everytime anyone has a valid and informed opinion on here (from over fifteen years of playing mmos from UO onwards) they get called a Troll.

And that's exacty your problem - the old style of gaming is GONE. I do believe UO is still up and running though and it's calling your bitter troll name :)

Proof?

Sounds like you make as many assumptions as the haters.

This is just one poll - there are tons with similar results:

Errr.... what?

I've played for several hours today, and except from the very first area with zillions of players, I've had no problem with lags whatsoever. BUT: chat has been filled with complaints about lags, so calling it "practically non-existent" is a huge lie.

And for your first post:

Don't state self-made "facts" about who's in the minority. And don't attack others for their opinions, especially when your mindless fanboyism isn't any better.

On topic:

Sure, the starting planet was a lot of fun. But on the capitol planet, the game suddenly turns into a huge grind, and got incredibly boring for me. The game took a huge dive there, at least for me. It actually made me uninstall the whole shit.

I would accept the whining about the game if Bioware had marketed it as one thing and then - surprise - they released a totally different game. SWTOR was advertised accurately and is loads of fun.

And I do believe the negatives are in a minority based on what I've read and the comments in game. I'm not having lag issues so I'm not sure what people are in chat are talking about. Practically non-existent doesn't mean non-existent just like red-eye reduction doesn't mean NO red eye.

No one game will please everyone and all the whining in the world won't change that fact. Will millions of people play SWTOR? Yep! Will those millions love playing? Yep. Just because you don't like it won't change that fact either.

After all of the disaapointments that have been released over the past few years - it's really nice to see a game developer take the time to produce a game ready to play at launch with so much future ahead of it.

Another self-made fact. Zero credability left, I'd say.

Btw, no one cares what you would "accept". Your opinions isn't more worth than others'.

And I'm supposed to care....why?

A major problem is that too few games take consideration that there are actually people out there who didn't sleep through their high school education.

By no means would I ask for a MMORPG to require a Ph.D. in order to be enjoyable, but I do wish there were more out there that assumed that its players are at least college material in intelligence and maturity.

I suppose EVE Online is the only current MMO that could be considered to qualify.

I wish that SWTOR had contained a more well-written and mature story, even seen through single player RPG standards.

It's Star Wars - when has Star Wars EVER been mature? The same franchise that brought us Ewoks? Jar Jar Binks?

It's Star Wars - not freaking Shakespeare lol

Eve Online has 300K subs for a reason - it's for hardcore gamers. There's something for everyone :)

Games hold your hand now...  Take almost no skill or learning.  They point you in the direction of every quest, explain every detail about everything, even read out your stats and tell you how much you "need" to do things.   Bla bla bla

Darkfall ----> that way

Absolutely! I played DFO for 3 months - if you're looking for a game that doesn't hold your hand and is brutal - that's the one :)

Oh yeah - because it's so much more fun taking days trying to figure out how to get started. Video games are actually a helluva lot more complex than they used to be. Asteroids...Defender...Pac Man...all super complex. Then came along that real brain teaser: Donkey Kong.

The days of super complex game designs are gone because not enough people play them or want to. The sub numbers don't lie. Games are supposed to be fun and engaging - not require a freaking Phd in gaming to play.

SWTOR is as advertised so there really shouldn't be any shocked people out there thinking it was going to be something else.

It runs smoothly - lag and bugs are practically non-existent and will thrill millions of people while a few thousand sit in the corner sucking their thumbs.

I started beta for the 1st time today and found exactly what I expected: Lots of fun and NO - it's not super complex...as I knew it wouldn't be. It's a freaking blast with tons of future potential. If you're looking to jump into a game and hit the ground running and have a good time in the Star Wars universe - this is it.

The whining that has begun is incredible. The game was NEVER touted as being a sandbox - super complex grind fest. This is not UO or AO or any of the older games that never made it financially but rather an engaging - almost like playing a video book - game. The voice acting cut screens really draw you into the story and I love how you can get tempted by the dark side (if your good of course) and have to be careful how you respond to certain quests or you lose light/dark points.

Games now are so much more than they were when I was 15. You had to drive to an arcade to play your favorite game and then sometimes wait in line to play the new ones. I would spend $15-20 per day easy and all I hear from people now is whining about sub fees. I mean - you can play from the comfort of your home 24/7 for $15 a month - .50 cents per day.

So to conclude: SWTOR exceeded my expectations and is exactly what I thought it would be: pure fun. If you were expecting a highly complex game (at least at launch) then it's really your problem - and you're in the minority.

Hi all im 27 years old and i play games since 1997 i was waiting for this game 2 f years and to tell the truth im very dissapointed.

My system rig 980x watercooled 580 sli latest drivers 12 gigs of ram alienware optx 2310 monitor ssd drive

One word for those who are willing to buy the game "try it before u buy it.It may save u some money especially if u have preordered the collectors just like me.

The only reason i tried the beta was to see if those150 euro really worth it.

I played 2 characters a smuggler and a bounty hunter

What i didnt like about the game:

Character movement animations are awful

graphics are not very good even on ultra

Gameplay is not fun u shoot with guns but it doesnt play like 3rd person shooter it plays like meh...it's not fun

Smugglers cover system is not fun and it doesnt work  well.Furthermore it looks out of action.

it didnt give me the feeling that i was advancing in lvls

Performance of the game is very very very poor even on my system i had 35 fps outdoors.Indoors was better but im not playing the game only for indoors. They may improve that but i dont think there will be much of improvement.

////////////////////////////////////////

The only thing they managed to do right is the dialogs but im not playing a game only for dialogs but for it's gameplay.

I conclussion the gameplay of the game was not fun and it didnt gave me the feeling so as to want to play more.It seemed that there were a lot of things missing.

Now ill have to cancel my collectors preorder cause 150 euro for this game doesnt worth it nor my 15 per month.

Back to saints row 3 and waiting for diablo 3

Ps Try the game for your self if u get the chance. You may like it.For me im a very demanding player and if i see some things missing i just abandon it from the beggining. Some things may change but i think i gave them a lot of time to bring it on.This game should have been released by march. Now it releases december and it  still looks like crap.

Peace

The game is still in beta and you're drawing conclusions? Well - I think you're just about alone in your negative opinion of SWTOR. Have fun with your wittle FPS's :)

It was purely a financial decision on SOE's part and probably because LA was asking way too much for IP rights this go-round. Add that to the low sub rates and SWTOR coming out that was most likely the reason.

Now - that said - I'm a huge fan of SWG and if SOE had even changed it's sub rates or more importantly allowed players to have more than 2 characters per account I would have stayed. There will never be another game like SWG - with it's fantastic crafting system and sandbox style of play. There are so many facets of the game that were amazing and so many that really sucked.

I was hoping that SOE would have made the game FTP once SWTOR came out but none of that matters now - the game will die come December and most subs left will probably drag themselves over to SWTOR, but won't be happy about it.

the problem with DF and any game like it is that its design confuses it purpose.

open pvp gankfests need to be more like shooters. take away the pointless skill progression. give all players equal points to make their toons at creation. boom, perfect game with no complainers. people can craft, kill, do whatever, without the fear of infinitely stronger hordes coming along and wiping them out without any hope of survival let alone victory.

if ALL players were on a complete equal field at all times, all this whining would cease, and all players would know exactly what they were in for. the grinding and skill developement adds NOTHING but stupid lazy pretend pve content.

no one plays call of duty to level up hit points or increasing their toons innate aim. they play to kill people.  give gear and honorary titles for ranking up, but stay away from the pvp mechanics.

Words spoken from someone whos never played DF yet has an opinion on its mechanics.

DF isnt a gankfest.

lolwat? No, of course it isn't - I get hugs from everyone I pass :)

Play it before you give opinions on its core mechanics and how they work please

I have and you are living in a fantasy world....oh wait

I'm a fairly hard core player and PVPer but I refuse to play DFO for the length of the time it would take me to become competitive. I'm not going to subject myself to becoming someone's PVP plaything everytime I move from place to place or even right in town from my own faction.

All 50 of you hardcore players can continue to afk grind your toons in the water against the bridge for all I care but you will continue to do so in smaller and smaller numbers as time goes by.

It's a shame because DFO has lots of promise but I guess the one positive thing for me is that at least 50 deviants are playing DFO and not another game I'm in :)

So theres like what, 5 games out with full lott ffa pvp?

So lets go to those games and ask for them to remove the one feature that makes them unique.

Then we all complain how mmorpgs are cookie cutters of eachother and beg for something diffrent.

Did i get that process right?

DF wasnt built to be a pve safe game.  What makes the DF pve experience so fun is the resk vs reward that comes with the chance you could lose everything youve aquired.  This aspect makes clan holdings near "good" mobs valuable and fought over.  This makes things like going out of your way to an area less frequented to pve in peace something viable.

What your asking in a sense is to please change DF to be like all the other games out there so that more people who are unable to adept to a diffrent type of game can enjoy it.  You dont want full loot pvp (despite everything you lose is so easily replaceable) and you dont want FFA pvp...why are you here on this games forums here then?  This is what makes DF diffrent.  Go back to whatever themepark or crafting sim game you come from and start complaining there that its not easy/hard enough rather than trying to kill the soul of one of the few full loot games alive.

So if I'm out mining for say - an hour and you come along - gank me and take all my stuff - that one hour of work is "easily" replaceable? It's obvious you don't spend much time doing anything but ganking and griefing which is why you like DFO the way it is.

Like I mentioned in my previous post - all DFO would have to do is provide inventory insurance against full corpse looting so you don't lose everything to some moron who's been playing longer.

My theory on that scenario is that you deserved it.  Why on earth would you mine for an hr straight without banking?

Its entirely possible to have all the resources you want mining in smaller runs, say 2-3 nodes per run.  Even more so is the fact that you can EASILY mine then bank every node in most spots.

Ill say that your failure to adapt to a ffa full loot enviroment isnt the games fault.  Think about what your doing a bit and the full loot part of DF only matters in certain occasions.

Perhaps - but since I'm not playing the game any longer and the sub numbers for DFO are not stellar - maybe you should be open to some changes. Are you against having some sort of inventory insurance to protect players from losing everything or is that something you get off on?

The only people who go out farming for long periods of time between banking are the ones who are good enough to do so and live.  Obviously that isnt the case for you, or me either, so most regular players learn to bank OFTEN, or they quit and blame the game mechanics like you chose to do.

Oh and one small oversight you made...you only lose the ore...the stats and skills gained from that hr of mining are yours to keep.

No oversight - I do realize that since I played the game for 3 months, but losing anything I've worked hard for in game to some deviant who's been playing longer (someone playing regularly for a year can beat someone who's been playing for 3 months while totally naked) just isn't fun for me and for many others.

DFO could easily triple it's subs just with providing that one change: inventory insurance, but the outcry from the hardcore full loot crowd that get their kicks stealing from lowbies would be deafening.

I played Darkfall for about 3 months and finally quit because of 2 things: The grind and full corpse looting. The last straw for me was when a member of my own faction put a debuff on me while I was fighting a group of mobs and then cleaned me dry after I was dead and laughed at me to boot.

The fact is - full corpse loot games attract the lowest form for gamer - the kind of person who kicks the neighbors cat for fun and used to knock down kids for their lunch money. I love PVP and respect that DFO wants to keep this aspect of their game but it's the main reason why many people will either avoid the game or quit soon after.

I would come back to Darkfall in a second if perhaps they just provided some sort of inventory insurance against corpse looting - a fee paid to protect all of the items on your character so that you don't lose everything if killed. This wouldn't change the game except for the fact that more people would play and maybe the more sick players wouldn't derive as much pleasure out of stealing other players stuff.

Well I try not to draw conclusions about games until I've actually played them. Unlike you.

Now you're making assumptions.

Bioware have never described their game as anything like SWG, they have in fact done the complete opposite. Other than being set in the same universe that is where the comparisons do and should end.

 ??   "and should end"   ??

When I read the OP it seems to me his point was clear, he did not want TOR to be SWG he wanted TOR to be as orginal and creative and as deep as SWG, something different then the temepark style MMO's of today.

Perhaps you can explain why we need less originality and innovation and more themepark MMO's with a splash of dialogue?  We have all read enough about this game to know Bioware did their best to take their single player model and combine it into a themepartk MMO.  Neither of those experiences are new or grounbreaking. Its just like taking ice cream which is good and a banana which is good and making banana icecream which is not much different than strawberry icecream.  Bioware hasnt presented one concept yet that hasnt already been done somewhere else.  Im not knocking the game, it will sell well be fun to play but its nothing new, its an existing single player RPG experience that you can play with your friends,  And when the story and dialogue are over your gonna be grinding faction doing dailies and running  the same dungeons over and over for gear just like todays games

Im just amazed at the last part of your comment that seems to miss the orginal posters point,  Its that SWG brought something new to the table TOR does not and if it does they are holding out on us.   So by stating the only thing that should be the same is the universe and nothing else your telling the  OP that TOR doesnt have to be orginal or innovative which were all attibutes associated with the original SWG.

If thats not what you were implying than what did you mean by "and should end"?

MMO's are a business and the one MMO that has succeeded BIG TIME is Wow. SWTOR will be based on this design along with adding Biowares own bits - just as Wow took what made Everquest great and added their own parts to it.

SWG will always be one of the most innovative and best MMO's EVER but the target audience that gaming companies are shooting for are more like the general population from the movie Idiocracy:

SWG wasn't challenging. It was just tedious and boring. That was why most people left the game along with the fact it was broken and didn't stay true to the IP it was based on. It had some nice features, but it was hardly the best MMO ever. People aren't going to pay a monthly sub for a game that isn't fun. In the end that's all these things are. Games. Not life simulators.

tedious and boring = Complex and Involved. The crafting system was a fantastic game in itself. I'm not saying the game was perfect but it kept me interested longer than any other MMO out there - even after the NGE hit.

And you're wrong - I had 6 accounts at one time and my own city. SWG could have done extremely well if SOE and Lucas hadn't opted for "dumbing" down the game for people like you.

Well I try not to draw conclusions about games until I've actually played them. Unlike you.

Now you're making assumptions.

Bioware have never described their game as anything like SWG, they have in fact done the complete opposite. Other than being set in the same universe that is where the comparisons do and should end.
