General: Player Perspectives: The Magic Number
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/31/10 6:38:07 AM
I have never been a fan of large raids (20 people or more). At least not in a PvE scenario. I played LOTRO for a month and hit just 12 levels short of the max level of 65. A fellowship (group) had 6 spots and many quests you needed a full group. There was a lot of solo fun to please players like myself and only a few forced groupings for storyline advancement. Things to turn me off from larger raids. Graphical clusterf%#k - How can you see what's going on with that many people running around in the same space. Not just the players, monsters... this is all assuming you turned off spell effects and some graphics, but I like to keep mine on. Difficulty finding valuable players - I'm up at odd hours playing games all the time. I like to be entertained at off-peak hours. It seems like most games that offer raiding only have just that as their end-game staple. Sorry but when you need even 10 people and start getting class specific, there is just too much time between action. Too involved in the end-game - I don't like large raids to be too involved in the end-game making it nearly forced just so you can keep up in the games' other aspects. Don't get me wrong, I'll try bigger raids and they are fun but a game solely based on that is not my cup of tea. |

Tibia: Rule enforcement & cheaters. Help required.
General Discussion « Tibia 1/28/10 10:55:39 PM
Hello, Unfortunately, the majority of the MMORPG.com community loathes Tibia. I myself am a veteran player. I was first introduced to the game about 8 years ago, didn't start really playing until 2006, then retired for 2 years from the game. Late in 2008 I came back to find many of my friends still playing. I started playing again with my Sorcerer at level 45. I kept dying and getting frustrated from losing levels so I started playing my paladin which was level 29. Long story short, I crushed it for an entire year reaching level 200. My character name is Meritshoota if you want to look me up. Now I felt like I've overplayed the game and went exploring into other MMO's. I'm glad I did, I'm finding some cool games out there that fit my taste. I still log in to see my friends and I'm still a vice leader of the most powerful neutral guild on our server of Keltera. I'm now writing about my adventures, reviewing other games, and living my dream as a gamer. Now the matter at hand, cheaters. I will admit to you I've used a bot before, not your typical afk cave bot. I used it to loot bodies because dragging each item, holding control for stacks of items, and looting each corpse was archaic. I still mashed my hotkeys, healed myself, and selected monsters to attack on my own. However, on my own free will I decided to stop using the bot for a few reasons. My guild mates frowned upon it and I thought the game was more challenging and exciting without the bot at all. The reason Cipsoft cannot get rid of all botters at once. They took action too late, simply. By the time their automatic system was implemented, I estimate about 80% of people currently were cheating or had cheated in the last 2 months. P.S. The highest level in Tibia, Lord'Paulistinha was deleted in the last mass ban. |

Runescape: Runescape Re-Review
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/28/10 5:03:25 AM
I originally started playing Runescape back when RS classic was the only Runescape out there. I stuck with it, got some skills pretty high up there. I think my best was my Ranged skill at level 83. I mostly played around 2003/2004. To the person who said Runescapes has the most immersive quests in the MMORPG market must have an odd perception of the word immersive. Have you played Lord of the Rings Online? Now that is quest immersion (when you aren't doing the average collect/bounty quests). I might have been out a few years but it couldn't have changed that much. |

General: List: The Top Five PvP MMOs
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 1/27/10 2:01:10 AM
Yes, yes, and yes. I still haven't met anything that comes close to DAoC's PvP system. Apparently they call the style Realm Vs. Realm now I guess. Regardless I haven't played in about 6 years, I hope I can get my account back hahaha. I had 6 max level 50's and quit right before they did their whole PvP system revamp. I want to go back, the 3 realms fighting is where it's at. |

Guild Wars is lateral in a sense. You can raise a character from level 1 as a roleplaying character, completing quests, and being your typical MMORPG. However, if you are only interested in PvP only you can create a character at level 20 and be nearly equal as the others in battle. Playing the PvE side only helps slightly in the PvP elements, unlocking things you normally might not have access to. I got completely ridiculed as a noob going straight into PvP though. |
