You'd be surprised to know then that Turbine specifically admit their mistake in making a sequel to an existing game, as it only competed with their own player base.

Turbine's argument holds no merit.  EQ,EQ2...Lineage,Lineage2  etc...

Turbine should launch 2 AC2 servers, pvp and pve, offering a station pass for both games, if not a pass for all their games.

"fetich fellow 4/9 PST if you wanna hunt"

one of my favorite quests when rolling alts :D

I'd go for that; so long as, at least a few people were assigned to keep AC2 occasionally updated and stamp out bugs.

I second  that :D

If they had released AC2 10months later around time when heropatch sept-2003 was launch you would have had a complete different story prolly chat would have been np people would not have stand in east-gevoth outpost complaining whole day there is nothing to do, people would have quests quest grind to lvl, after hero patch there was alot more to do ingame then before lvl 50 cap.

And in mean while turbine working on legions that would have come more quickly then, game would have prolly survived beyond 2005, people by then would have had better pc's and would see the true potential of what ac2 realy looked like with full hi res.

Hi-res files made the game look awesome if you had the machine to run it. The game also supported stereo view and looked even better in 3D. I would love to play this game again with the newest hardware :D

I can't believe Turbine made DDO F2P hoping to increase revenues instead of offering a station pass to all their games and include AC2 servers. Turbine has AC2 fans begging to give them money and they won't take it!!

If Turbine offered a special, and I mean special, (like the rainbow eep) in-game item for previous AC2 players for returning and a second item for new accounts you bring with you, AC2 would be in the green in the first 90 days. I mean the game is already done. Ya, like most games it could use a few more tweaks, but the millions in developement is already done and paid for!!

millions of dollars in IP collecting dust instead of dollars.  It's hard to believe their CFO is ok with that.

There is no reason why Turbine can't do what they did for DDO for AC2.

DDO was obviously losing players and had low subs.

Relaunch AC2 as a Free to Play game, update the engine, which is an earlier version of the Lotro/DDO engine and put it out there as a digital download. Include the expansion as well. Start it clean.

TBH, I would pay to play AC2 again, but regardless, I would definitely play a F2P AC2. DDO is now going F2P and I didn't even bother because it doesn't interest me.

The game was pretty polished and had all class and crafting revamps already. It was a "working" MMO that just had a low player base and an engine that was probably too ahead of it's time for 2002.

There is a fanbase that exists, there are other message boards with activity and people wanting this game revived. It may not be millions but I would say if they opened 2 servers, PvE and a PvP, they would be filled.

There are lots of F2P games and even SOE has one, Free Realms. AC2 blows that game away.

COME ON TURBINE!

You hit the nail right on the Head!  This is exactally what I would do.  One PvE and one PVP server and F2P.

COME ON TURBINE!!

Where do I sign up?  :D

I miss this game terribly !

Maybe they shouldn't of put all that money into sponsoring a raceteam. Hmmm that would of been a great money saver there. But I think if it comes down to it MGM would step in take control of CM and finish the game. MGM is very protective of the Stargate Franchise.

At this point it would probably be to little to late.

R.I.P Laura

My condolences to her family,  friends,  and everyone who loved her.

CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP..........UMM GOOD.......

Trolls have to eat too...

I remember flying using gurog air services. King of the Mountain would hit you soo hard it would take 5 minutes just to swim back to land!   Now that was fun :D

I remember reading that  Eric Heimburg ,former producer of Asheron's Call 2 (CITAN), had left Turbine to work on this project. If that is the case,my expectations are lowered!!

I would assume that  James J. Crowley's association with Highland Capital Partners (Turbines investors) and now president of Turbine will lead to an I.P.O. or corporate buyout.

turbines'  front page now has an anouncement . Crowly is new president.

This is sweet news for AC2 players. Maybe now Turbine will plug the servers back in! ....woot!!

Turbine is done with AC. They would rather cash in on brand name concepts with cookie cutter game mechanics than take a chance on an off the wall, original concept.  I think the game is amazing, the quests are wild and challenging, the PK poltics on Darktide are like nothing I have ever experienced,  the lore was much more engaging than anything i have played since, and the community is the best I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of.  However, Turbine is just not commited to making the game successful.

At this point, they should combine all the servers onto one and allow all characters to rename themselves.  They should bring thier graphics up to date.  They should release a new expansion and actually market it.  They should open a new pve and pvp server and allow players to choose between established servers and fresh ones.  Asheron's Call probably won't break any subscription records, but they could become a profitable franchise.  That's my two pyreals anyhow

Sounds like dreams of AC3 to me. :D

I played AC2 for 3 tears and loved it.  To this day AC2 is still the most fun I have ever had in an mmo.  Even Turbine's DnD and LOTRO beta 2,which are good games, fall short of that AC series addiction.  AC series has an appeal that is outside of what is now the "cookie cutter"  mmo. The skills/combat system,multi-factional pvp,portal/travel system, lifestones instead of gravestones,patron/vassel swearing, fellowships (class dependencies),solo content, community, repeatable quests,vaults,etc... are just a few that set AC series apart from other MMO's.  Graphics,IMO, in AC1 are just to out dated  from other MMO's to be a good contender any longer.  AC2 suffered with to many problems early on to keep a sizeable client base needed (so we've been told), though it was a good game. Especially after Legions Xpack,AC2 was a great game!        (yah,Tumeroks are cool too)

So,where does that leave Asheron's fans?     Only Turbine can tell us.   But, I'm ready to answer another   "Call"   :D

That download is a very old video and was never meant for release !!  There are much better videos at http://lotro.turbine.com/index.php?page_id=53 check them out :D
PLZ, not another game that feels like your in a neverending Disney movie :P

o.O... how can the failure of a retail product be blamed on the customer DOH!!!

I really wish LOTRO could have been licensed to a reputable company in this industry, that is one to say, provides for thier customer's needs/desires. IMO,the complete lack, disreguard, and disconcern of what thier customers were paying for was the reason for failure and the rest is trivial.

On the positive side, Turbine has a great game engine. Thier grafics are superior and realtime combat is the best I've played.

I can only hope that lessons have been learned at Turbine and whoever operates the helm in that company, has learned how to steer :P

Botom line: AC2 just got out of BETA at legions launch and never recovered
