LotRO is similar to WoW with it's interface and even some of the questing but it's storyline heavy gameplay really sets it apart. The time slicing mechanism allows for some great quests. One of the early ones for man has you defending your town from invading bandits. If you are successful you are able to drive them back but the damage to the town and people of the town doesn't go back to normal. The town is burned and quests begin to center on helping to rebuild the town. WoW's quests are not focused on storyline very much and the world never changes. It is similar to Guild Wars in this way I guess. I've only played the first part of Guild Wars though so I don't know. The achievement system and trait system are other ways to improve and customize your character through storyline based goals. Everything is focused around the storyline. I've played both games and I wouldn't consider them the same. I think if you've only played the newbie levels and area you might be mislead into thinking it is a WoW clone. |

Yeah it just depends on where you do the pre-order at. I'm probably going to put the full price down right away then play starting March 30th until late May all for free before deciding on lifetime or $9.99 a month. |

"24 hour downtime! Ha! That's why -INSERT- is better than EVE!"
Jita (General) « EVE Online 1/04/07 3:56:19 PM
The OP was joking of course but I do like that my character's skills continue to increase even during downtime :)

Open Beta - What we know, what we don't know...
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 1/04/07 8:10:16 AM
I am still under NDA, open beta has not started and the beta servers are not down. I don't know where the OP got his information but a lot of what he posted is incorrect.

I only have one account and one character. Can't see myself wanting another one. If I was going to pay another monthly fee I'd just make it for a second MMORPG, not the same one.
Though, as a dedicated miner, it would be nice to have a second account do all my hauling for me. |

Second Life is amazingly varied in it's activities. Education, support groups, bible studies, all manner of discussion groups, live music, literature events, art galleries, libraries, muesums, amusement parks, films, exploration/sight seeing and so on and so on. It isn't made for people that want to "game". It is for socialization. Anyone who can't find the maturity to get past the fact that there are "naughty things" like sex and gambling in the game should not bother with Second Life. But if you want a place with a mature community and unlimited freedom then it is a fantastic experience.
