Yah I am talking about being on the main bar at the left of the screen. You know how most people are, they will not search too hard for something. |

If you look at the front page of the forums you will find this link.

Basicly it will answer all of your questions. Since MMORPG.com doesnt have Dark Solstice listed in its in developement section, you should go to their site to post questions and concerns. They need our involvement. |

I never said I was selected :) We all have to wait for the beta's etc to be done to see what this game has to offer. I cant speak for others though.
so again we shall wait. check the website, post on those forums and see if overlord or chicken hawk have anything to say about it. Only way I can see to get any sort of update. |

Have you checked the message boards on solsticerserver.com Beta tests rarely conform to any schedule. You will receive an email from them when it is time. So we all have to wait.. and wait.... and wait. |

Definately looking forward to more details. Just hope they dont try to do what SoE did with EQ and re make something that already was working for the most part. That is my opinion of course.
I may be mistaken, but didnt shadowbane have a large problem with cheating? I never did play the game so please correct me if I am wrong. I personaly feel the cheating is one thing that can bring a game down, along with currency farmers like we had in Lineage 2. I am sure SBG will take a dash of this and a dash of that and build off of the positive things from each game and such that they have researched. If developers keep that mind set, then MMO's should only get better and better. I look forward to seeing what happens here. |

I cant seem to find the game in any stores. Does anyone have ideas where one would purchase? What does the first day of a PE noob go like? Obviously if you put your real dollars into it, you shouldnt expect any back or need any back for that matter, so a ten dollar drop wouldnt be made if I didnt have ten bucks to spare. Are their different zones or servers? You mentioned mining, and I cant help but relate it to other MMORPG games where you can mine products to craft better ones etc. Is there fighting or pvp or territory type battles?
All the information here is a great help, and I truly appreciate it.

So for a casual gamer, would people who PLAY the game currently or recently be able to say it is a good idea or not?? It is a very very valid point that you must be responsible. Just like you dont take your rent to the black jack table, or take your down payment for a new house and drop it on a stock you know nothing about. I think I may have the number wrong, but I do know that the person spent alot of money (it might have been a currency conversion from AUS to US dollars also). It seems that if a person only spends their liquid assets, comes up with a way to make money from the player base, they can turn hundreds in to thousands. And like the point I made before Entropia makes it safe to do so. I am not sure if scammers have found a way around it, but it seems like it would be something stomped on so fast that it wouldnt be worth a scammers time.
Thanks for all the informative posts. |

I think we have a winner here folks.
The point of this forum topic is about the Asian MMO style. Other posters have noted that they intentionaly call it an MMO because there is no RPG aspect. FTP is not the only place the grind fest takes place. In other games, you may max out level, but their is sometimes more content beyond the grind. Alot of people game for the social atmosphere, and they play with their friends. Alot of people dislike the same thing over and over and want content. In personal experience I have found games like Lineage 2 to have very little in the lines of content, but they have made many efforts to westernize their style. They just have alot of hard work for no reward in my opionion. |

My first introduction to the game came from a story on MSN about someone who paid (forgive me if I am wrong on the amount) 25,000 dollars for an in game island, which he can now charge people to hunt at. That story came out a long time ago, and since then I have been looking at the game from a distance. I dont believe in spending real life money inside the virtual world (no more than the P2P fee) but for those that do, and if I ever did, I would think the set up for Entropia is the safest way to do it.
SO many people in MMORPG's have been ripped off from buying virtual items and characters. If the gaming world made it safe, beyond saying dont do that, it would probably make alot more money. If you spend money in Entropia, doesnt it go through their accounts first onto the debit card? Every dollar that is in there I am sure makes interest. It is good to hear all of the feed back on this. |

Casual gamers enjoy being able to socialize as well as hard core gamers. In games like L2 your too busy grinding for XP and money to be able to be social. There is not a story line and there is no RPG aspect at all. Leveling your character is the way to level your skills, so the second to last comment in your thread is redundant. We are customers, and most of us do not have a desire to develop a game. Once again the more casual gamer probably has more things to do than develop his/her own game. You have stated your opinion, which means you enjoy the challenge that Asian MMO's offer in the grind fest. To answer your question on what else there is to do in a game, you have to open your mind and know that other people have their own play styles that differ from yours. In games you can socialize and role play, craft and creat items for your self and others, PvP, adventure and explore, and the list goes on. Please open your mind up and realize that not everyone plays for your reasons. |

I agree with Castro, and think that even the 1 billion dollar figure is conservitive. You have many companies selling adena on L2. Every one in my clan was talking about the best deals they got for items. Add in the charge for power leveling services, and then add the L2 servers. Spread that out across the MMO world, and 1 bil is not a hard figure to come up with. I think L2 does millions a year alone.
As Castro said, L2 probably wont survive the new games coming out. If you go to any starter town you will only see a few farmers, and no real new players. I played EQ when the shiny brass halbred and serp bracers were awesome items. I have played EQ2, Eve, WoW, L2, AO, DAoC and even Earth and Beyond (Beta only) and I have seen currency trading in all of them except E&B. |

Those facts I did not know, as I have never played. They make it sound like it is a nice economy mixed with real world funds. Doesnt sound like the case if what was said about spending more in game to hunt than the rewards. Thanks for the tips.

You have your opinion Dam, and I have mine. Judging by the begining of your post, you have got an odd sense of being. There are no "wrong" responses to any article. In your opinion it may be wrong, but in someone elses opinion your not correct. If you have played Lineage 2 for any length of time, and have a char in the high 60's or 70's you would know that if you did not purchase virtual currency, you would have almost an impossible time getting items like the A grade helmet. The nightmare helmet, if you bought it from a player around chronicle 4 would cost about 150 + MILLION adena. The average mob drops for that level is about 1000 or so adena, assuming you dont have a team to split it with. The recipe alone prices from about 80-100 MILLION adena, and you need two of them or need to have a dwarf that has one in his book. (by the way, that 1 clicks to craft it in a shop cost about 1-3 million adena just for the afk warsmith to combine those items) My character is a lvl 68 warsmith and I know the game economy because that is how I make my money. There are not enough high dollar item drops, so lets say you make on a full good hunting day 100k adena for yourself, after selling off the things you dont want or need. If you dont use soul shots, heal pots, haste pots, arrows or any other consumables, you would be fine. You would have your your nice new helmet in about 6 months, if you never spent anything. Or if you try and craft and it fails (all A grade and up recipes are 60% chance of success) your back to square one.
If you place an item like this in your sell shop, a window pops up to let you know that you are trying to sell an item way above what the game thinks market price is. Now when you try and sell anything at the price of the economy, you will have the window come up warning you and making sure you know the price is to high or to low.
As far as farmers wanting to be left alone and leaving you alone. I would like you to ask any veteran of L2 from probably any server if they tried to do any of the raid bosses, or Baium, or Orfen etc to get the rings and do class change quests you had to make a deal with the farmers, and you had make sure you didnt even appear to loot the corpse because they would PK you. You had to ask permission to have them allow you to come and do a quest you need to get your end game. Heaven forbid another farming agency came to the same boss at the same time, as then everyone dies. |

If it failed, back to square one. In Lineage, if you dont buy adena, you cant succeed. That is why they dont get my 3 accounts worth of subscriptions anymore. In the Asian MMO's 10 levels of farming at high levels takes a very very long time. |

True, if it costs 15 bucks for a bottle of whatever, that means people are paying for it. It is up to you to be the one selling or buying. It is a choice. If it isnt for you then dont so to speak. The point being made is that people can make that choice, and the environment is safe for them to do that. |

This is a game I have been watching for a while, and I think these guys have it right. Instead of making it against the EULA to purchase the virtual for the real, why not make it safe? I have not played the game, so I dont know if it is a necessity to use real money for virtual, but at least here your protected and are not as likely to be scammed.
Like I said I have not played it and have only been following the game for a while. |

Nice article.
I played Lineage 2 where the farmers own the economy. It is not only Korean, but alot of other asian and european companies. People will always buy and sell the in game currency, If it is shut down one place, another opens. Some people even think games like Lineage 2 make money from the people farming for protection from the mighty Ban hammer. if the farmers are banned, they will get new key codes and start over.
I dont personaly feel that the virtual currency sellers would be hurt by this at all. Customers might though.
At the end of the article, I think the whole paragraph is right on point. The games that make money off of it are not taxed, and this law could hurt them. The farmer companies wouldnt be to hard hit by it. But give them an excuse to raise the price, and you will see prices go up like the US Gas prices. |

You forgot to mention Lineage 2. Grind fest galore. Same stuff different level. RP?? lol not a chance. Casual gamers will quickly fall behind, and at that point your friends that are not hard core will leave the game. Lineage fits your points to a T. To sell you either NPC it for nothing, or you sit AFK in a shop. Lineage does have crafting and it is limited to Dwarves. The dwarf can set up a shop and charge whatever he wishes to for the clicks. Adena farmers are rampant (in game currency). but they also farm crafting materials, boss mobs, and other dungeon goods to the point they will PK you if you come and try to raid it yourself. (Lineage is open PvP) I dont believe in FTP games, as they always attract immature players, so no advice on that. |

If anyone is beta testing, can you post something here to let the rest of us know? Maybe bring some interest to the game from this site? Of course obey the NDA, but constructive comments are always usefull. Thanks |

I agree, the hype for the game is so low, but maybe they are hoping their fans bring some Hype in. I am waiting for the second beta opening for my spot to check it out. |
