Thanks for the information folks, very helpful.

I would have to start up a new character. About the time of the large changes my character became a bit of mess (something that happened to a lot of players) and to be totally honest, I wouldn't know where to start with him again. I think starting off a fresh faced character would probably help me in more ways then one, especially when one considers roleplaying. I would love to try out some harvesting and maybe even crafting if the market is worth it, I remember reading about a year back that the market was a bust and not worth the investment like it was back in the day.

I'm interested, but not solely keen on doing every quest or so. As for the starter planet, I have been told different things. Some folks have told me to simply do it, while others have actually informed me to ignore it totally. So not to sure about that, doesn't exactly sound to interesting though. I think it would be a better bet to find a city that's solidly populated and try to play my part. I was told that the starter missions can actually provide some neat little early items, one being an harvester so maybe I'll still do the early tutorial stages.

I use to play on Ahazi, which I believe is an North American server. For some reason I ignored the European servers (being European and all) so hopefully I shan't make that mistake again. As for the actual game and expansions, you can get the SWG: Complete Collection cheap now. Infact I know I could get it for around £10 now, with all expansions included.

Also, what of that other expansion I heard of. The one based in Cloud City, maybe I dreamt it. I believe it's was rumoured around the time they officially announced Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Well I'll see if I do officially try a return. Worth a go I guess! Thanks again! :)

Hey Folks,

Not sure if other people are having the same problems, but just went to log into my SW:TOR account to discuss on forums the new class and I needed to agree to the updated Terms of Service, I accepted it and pressed OK but for some reason it keeps taking me back to the same page to accept and OK it again! repeating itself.

Anyone know of this problem, can't access any other parts of the site?

Thanks!

 Hello folks,

Been many many years since I was part of SWG, the best MMO I ever had the pleasure of playing. But a lot as changed and most veterans have accepted that now. But I've been hearing some praise towards the new Development team working on SWG and have been considering another visit. Trouble is, it's been so long that I'd fully expect to get lost the minute I jump in. So I'm looking for some advice.

If I'm honest, most of the pleasure I obtained from SWG back in the day came from Guilds and player cities. Now I know a lot as changed and if I can recall correctly, 'ghost town' cities were gotten rid of by the developers. But I sense that being part of a social and possibly even roleplaying guild might actually help me gel into SWG again. They were the aspects I enjoyed most in SWG. I would love to be able to create my own special character again and be part of a thriving, social and interesting guild. I'm not totally sure on how many people still play SWG, a mate of mine checked it out about 2 months back and informed me that cities and servers were mostly dead to my disappointment.

So I'm not sure about that, but I would like some advice on if I did return. I'd most probably return as a human character, never could roleplay any of the other races to well and I'm not the best roleplayer about (as in I'm not a Star Wars Super Fan, I'm simply a fan). But I would like to hear what SWG is like at the moment, I was told that the market is a bust. I use to spend so much of my time harvesting and selling in SWG and absolutely loved every minute of it, I spent so much time that I never really developed my character to any massive degree. He was never one class, he was just a human harvester who could handle himself if danger came calling and I liked it that way.

If anyone as any good advice, maybe even returning veterans themselves then that would be brilliant.
Thanks!

Hello There,

I apologise if this isn't in the right area, but I need some help. I know I'll probably end up having to contact support but if I need to then I won't until the rush as carmed down. Basically I wanted to access my old account but the password I use to have doesn't work. Now the last time I played WoW was a year ago so I believe I've probably forgot it. I've tried again and again and I can't log in. So I tried password recovery but for some weird reason the email I used with the account isn't being reconised by Blizzard. It states that the information is wrong.

Now I'm not sure if this is down to me, but I have tried other email accounts and none of them work. So it's a little odd, I'm wondering if something as happened to it. Thankfully I use to pay through time cards so I don't need to worry about card or money issues. It's just a really weird bug or something. I only need to access my account that is all.

Does anyone know a solution?
Thanks!

Again, thanks for all the advice

I guess it all comes down to knowing what you want to do in EVE, something I still haven't decide on. I have never been very good at making decisions. When I'm creating a character part of me wants to do mining so I o down the mining path of creation but then theres part of me keen on Manufactuer and corporations. EVE gives you a lot to learn and often you need to learn it quick!

Such as the market, I have no idea whatsoever how it works hehe! As I said previously EVE Online is a game I could really see myself getting into. Despite me saying I want freedom and such I think I could do with support and help so I'll try and join a good corp willing to take on a newbie fool!  In SWG I was helped out by some amazing players who didn't need to help me but they did! spent months advicing me and helping me out in the world! I guess I'm looking for some help in the same area and I'll see about joining the chat for EVE University.

Despite me wanting to get into the EVE Community I can find it hard to get on with people! especially people who are very forward (if you know what I'm on about) and hyper! I know that if I did join a corp it wouid be a more mature corp (I've had my fill of kids in WoW thank you very much). I really want to get into EVE, hopefully I'll find a way!

Thanks again!

Thanks guys for the advice, I have tried to join corporations in the past but never had the greattest experience with my fellow corp mates. Nothing serious I've just never felt confortable or had to much fun playing with them. But maybe your right, maybe I need to keep searching for one that suits me. I've always been a SOLOer in MMO's so maybe thats also playing its part! as I said I love the social aspects of MMO's but I've often enjoyed doing my own thing (such as harvesting in SWG which I did for myself). But maybe in EVE that needs to change,

I guess I'm waiting for that sudden moment when all things in EVE will make sense  but that will never come!

Eve is truely less of following a path and more like hacking your way through the jungle

A very nice way to put it, seems that way! I'm a tough customer when it comes to MMO's. I know a lot of former SWG players who are the same.... not exactly sure why tho! but I know there are many Ex-SWG players in EVE. I'll try again I guess!

Thanks for all the help and advice, greatly appriate it.

What is it?

Now I've tried many times to get into EVE Online and ended up falling flat on my face. In all honesty the game should suit me, then how come I feel so lost and unconnected with the Universe. I know I'm a weird type of MMO Gamer, I hate being told how I should play or how I should advance a character but I also hate not having my own path... I always found it tough to see any type of path on EVE. Ok some of you will say 'but you can be a miner, fighter and Pirate' but I always feel so lost in those paths. For instance Mining, now I'm a Ex-SWG player and I use to love mining (harvesting) in that game and then selling my wears to customers but mining and then just selling the resources on market is... well amazing dull! or am I missing something. I really want to be part of EVE online! the whole political scene but I think one of my biggest problems is that I've often found myself disjointed from any of it.

Now if there is one great thing EVE does offer is its playerbase! its mostly a friendly and helpful community yet I still feel lost after playin it for a few weeks. Maybe I have the wrong image when I think of the game. I have always like the social aspects of MMO's and maybe thats something that I find is missing from EVE I dunno! but it frustrates me because EVE truelly is an amazing game and theres always part of me that thinks that you need to find that special secret to EVE to truelly fall in love with the universe! I guess I also don't have the patience or time to play a MMO for 5+ hours a day and from my own experience it is something that is useful in EVE.

Maybe I'll never truelly understand EVE, but theres always that interest when I first play that eventually dies out and I feel lost and frustrated! I seek freedom but I also seek some sort of path! and for me old SWG did that perfectly!

Is there a secret to truelly enjoying EVE?

Thanks if you reply!

Hey,

I want to start playing but I've been told that theres been a HUGE bug in the newest client (Trinity) that is causing Computers to Pack up! I currently have no clients of Eve Online on my computer and was wondering if it's safe to download the client from the site?

I'll wait if not, this is a huge issue it seems and a lot of people have been affected!

Anyone know if it's safe or not?

I'm running Windows Vista 32bit Ultimate Edition btw!

It's possible that you could find last years Complete pack in the shops still, but they seem to be sold out in most places now.  The Digital download version is apparantly in the process of being made available from the UK version of Direct2drive, so it's not a permanent thing.

However, you don't need that pack to get into the game.  Simply start a trial account and then once the trial finishes, choose to pay the sub fee of $15.  This will get you the main game (which now includes JTL) and I think RoTW too.  The only expansion you'll be missing is ToOW.  Since ToOW is high level content, by the time you need it, hopefully that Digital download version of the Complete pack will be available in the UK.

If I wanted to return it would be easy, I've bought the Complete Collection a few months back so still have it connected to an account. All I need to do is resub. But as I also said, my mate hasn't played SWG since he left a few months after changes so he doesn't have any of the other expansion packs.

Thanks for mentioning the trial though, I always thought that once the trial was over you needed to buy the game from store or online. So theres a start for him! I believe hes downloading the trial right now to give ago!..... I'm slightly worried what he'll think because he hasn't played for ages.

To be fair he stayed after the changes for a good few months, he left after being unable to find a good guild again. We had spent all our time in the same guild, plus most of his mates left... same as myself!

I'll never understand why people cheat in MMORPG's. I understand why people may cheat in an average game such as The Sims 2 where cheating can often be a fun factor but the enjoyment of MMO's is the challenge to be the best and create a character you love playing. You won't do this cheating will you!

Cheating in MMO would be boring, it's like (as mentioned) walkin through a wall..... yet the whole challenge in that game would be how to reach that next room. Theres no fun in having a cheat that would allow u to just walk through the wall...... thats not a challenge.

I don't really understand why they exsist. Same with Gold farming or seling of ingame currency! the fun in MMO's is getting the cash to get that new speeder or new weapon, or armour!

It's weird why it happens.

Nice to hear that, I agree that it probably might have taken a bit of time to get all the right evidence. They don't want to be going around kicking inocent players, better knowing the right villians before taking action!

(Can't believe I'm saying this) But well done SOE.... and thats coming from a former SWG player

You don't waste the money putting boxed sets in stores of a game that isn't going to be around in 6 months.

It's not available on the UK direct2drive basically because LEC doesn't care enough to do it.

lol your probably right!

I was speaking with a former SWG player like myself and he was speaking about the avaliablilty of Star Wars Galaxies: The Complete Collection. Basically he said the game as become hard to find in the UK. Apparently the US as the game now on Direct 2 Drive but UK does not.

Basically hes been looking for the game for sometime now but without any luck, he doesn't want to pay over the odds. Some places are selling it for more then it was worth. I know places like Amazon and Play.com were selling it pretty cheaply but they have sold out now. I'm quite surprised  I'm guessing it's not because the game is popular but because SOE have stopped dispatching copies of the game. Still  a little surprised by that. Especially from SOE who usually will get every penny out of a game they can!

Mate hasn't played the game since leaving before the changes so was looking for it.

Any ideas where they can find a copy for a good price?

You could always colour armour & clothing, but recolouring furniture was never possible.  Until 6.8 :)

There we go then  As I said I remember recolouring cloths and armour and such but never did build any furniture.

Isn't the situation simply RP just isn't fashionable anymore?

When MMO's first appeared I think they had immediate appeal to folks with a background in traditional pen and paper games where RP was a lot more acceptable, even expected.

Modern games are marketed to a much larger audience though. There are far more folks playing than ever before from more market segments. Kids that in the past would've regarded MMO's with disdain now see them as valid pursuit. They play Madden XX, Halo X, and Bioshock, as well as WoW and SWG. And so they mock RP'ers.

Its not just SWG. I foloowed some friends to Wow and was surprised to see they had chosen a RP server. I wondered how to do it and whether I could RP. Turns out I needn't have worried - noone RP's there. In a year of playing, only one person ever spoke to me in character and when she did I was a little confused as to how to proceed.

I only RP in SWG when I play my ent alt. She's female so I flirt, wink, and blush with the customers. They all flirt back. Seems the only time people want to RP in SWG is when sex is involved...

Maybe someone should petition SOE to start an RP server when the inevitable merge happens.

I have to give off a little slack to WoW, I did have some good RP times in that game. Dispite the fact that I didn't like the game that much the RP community was pretty good. I did tho have some bad experiences. It's true that when I finished SWG was being filled with more Halo X and WoW type players who spoke L33T. I remember a bad occasion in Anchorhead (I think the place was called, forgot it;s name on Tatooine) where a RPer was being heavily harassed by three players. Both myself and a number others reported them and they were later kicked frrom the game, they were saying some pretty.... well hurtful stuff to the chap! I noticed a few occasions of harrrasment towards RPers near the end of my time in SWG. I stoppedd RPing to be honest after ALL my good friends left the game and dispite trying to live on I eventually got sick of what SWG was turning into so left.

SWG could have been a superb RPing game. I also wrote for the Alliance Herald in WoW which was great fun. Though I eventually left the group due to not being able to spend enough time in the game and the fact that some members seem to hate me for some reason! I think it was because I didn't know the lore in great detail... though unlike SWG where I found the lore fasinating I found the WoW lore boing as hell!

Couldn't you recolour items years ago. I remember colouring cloths when I was a player. Although now thinking about it that was cloths... I don't really remember creating furniture!

I do remember that you could recolour them before tho! maybe recolouring furniture is new then

I knew a lot of people who roleplayed part-time back in the day! though I only met one or two full time Roleplayers. SWG was my first MMORPG and it was my first experience of RPing. It was actually a good place to start roleplaying as I knew some of the lore and no one took themselves that seriously.... not like WoW where if you didn't know the name of some sword that this King Dude used to kill this monster frog or something they would go mad and kick you out of the guild (yes it did happen).

RPing in SWG was great fun, I also wrote fanfic for my character in the SWG world. But it's true that the changes restricted aspects of Roleplay.

your post was good until you came with the GET OVER IT part, which made it annoying to read.

As for the strong City communities, i haven't seen any in my almost 2 years of playing. I think that since 11-15-2005 its difficult to find any. I thought i found one (thanks to a friend) when i just started playing but it fell apart in less than a few months..  lets say it was the aftermath of the NGE...

I apologise if that kind of got you reved up! I just am sick of seeing Veterans moan about the game endlessly! I wasn't happy but I got over it. I just don't think it's fair for every thread to have a '$OE sucks' comment or 'SWG can go and die comment' simple fact is that doesn't help current players of the game. It's unfair on them that some upset former playing hasn't gotten over it.

It's just everytime I check the forums out to see SWG happenings theres comments like that!

Hello,

First off all this isn't home to hundreds of former SWG vets (I'm one myself, get over it and stop moaning) so please no endless bashing of the game here. I'm here to ask a question concerning SWG's current condition.

I came to ask if SWG still as strong city communities on servers, For me playing SWG back in the day was all about the city communities and feeling part of that world. I played on Ahazi and spent most of my time living on Tatooine in the city of Sentinel Hill. Now the community was key to my experience and made many friends and even some enemies (which I won't go into now).

I've tried to get back into SWG again in the past but in my experience with other MMORPG's out there I've come to realise that I need to be part of something for me to trully enjoy a world. SWG back in the day was an odd experience for me, my first MMO and I didn't no what to do but the world fascinated me..... it still does to be fair. it's odd, I left the game yet I still find SWG three times more interesting as WoW ever was. I wasn't much of a leveler in someways, what I mean is that I never really concentrated on fighting skills of such and spent most of my time Harvesting and enjoying life, I guess Roleplaying played a large part of that.

I enjoyed Roleplaying, in fact it was my first experience, though I never really felt SWG had such a strong RP community (though I did meet some great RPers). I was never.... and I guess still am not that keen on combat which is disapointing as it now seems SWG is totally only combat.

But I ask, are there still strong City Communties on SWG? As I said, I'm a vet, well I say vet but veteran name only is given for people who played before changes. I don't really feel I'm a vet, though I played SWG the longest then any other MMIORPG. I come on these forums and read all the comments about SOE and SWG, I admit I was angry with what happened, logging on to have 40 emails all about people leaving really smegs you off, almost all 20 good friends left in three days . SWG is a great game, it offered an experience I've yet to have matched. Changes happened, I was Smeged off but I didn't endlessly moan as some seem to. I'm a little surprised that some ''vets'' seem to like upsetting the experience of other new and older gamers of the game. Just because they are upset with what happened......

GET OVER IT AND LEAVE THE PLAYERS ALONE!!

SWG was a game YOU make? there was and still is so much you can do. Don't read a comment by a so called vet saying endlessly bad things about the game an decide not to play the game... you make the SWG experience, thats why it was so good back in the day! it through you into a world with hardly any sort of tutorials and simply said 'THIS IS YOUR WORLD, DO WHAT YOU WANT' and we all did. We all have different experiences. Did I really think I would spend almost a year just working on Harvesters selling my wears.... cause not! but I loved it. There was so much I didn't experience in SWG, Space I never fully experienced (I still always wanted to go on one of the larger mining ships with mates) and there were many great planets.

Finally, as much as I loved SWG. Please Bioware don't make Kotor Online! I want Kotor 3
