Thats just plain B.S.
Making everyone walk for 20 minutes to get everywhere is just a cop out by lazy developers. If you really want more immersive and meaningful MMOs then add more content not travel time.

I agree.......
I would like to see games make player mounts like horses cheap and easy to get early on in the game. It really doesnt make sense to have to wait until you are high level before you are able to own a mount and travel at a decent speed.

are developers afraid or just out of ideas?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 2/04/08 5:18:42 PM
I have to agree with the OP.
The point is that nobody since SWG early on has had the balls to step outside of the safe zone and allow players to be whatever they want. To do away with cookie cutter classes and let us choose the skills which suit our play style. The huge success of that MMO on training wheels that is WOW has handicapped he genre as a whole making developers afraid to step outside those formulaic boundaries.

I have never been a fan of voice chat in an MMO. After dealing with it in FPS games on the consoles and finding it to be less than ideal I would much rather they implemented some form of Dragonspeak speech to text functionality to MMOs where the person could say what they wanted and the text would appear in the chat box.
Immersion dies quickly when it becomes obvious that the female high elf you are grouped with is actually a 14 yr old male.

Hmm......
It would be nice for a change to have enough slots to have one of each class wouldn't it?

curious.........
Isnt it odd how everyone seems to feel the same way about what has become of this once great game? It seems to me that most folks lament the loss of the original sense of community that surrounded the game before there was a bazaar or instant travel. A time when grouping was an everyday occurrence and considered the rule as opposed to the exception. If this doesnt scream out to the developers the need for an actual "classic" server if the game is to have any future or hope of a decent player base then I dont know what would. Its quite obvious to me that players miss the EQ that was and will never be satisfied with what it has turned into I dont care how many expansions they release. They are merely stretching out the inevitable demise of EQ like someone haphazardly slapping bad patches onto a rapidly sinking ship. This will not do.....

No stealth period.....
Becoming invisible is something a wizard could do and thats about as far as I am willing to tolerate it. If you want to be sneaky then you should have to sneak. Hide behind a tree or some bushes. If you are walking around right in front of me then I should be able to see you period.
The decision to get rid of stealth is a good one and i applaud WAR devs for making it.

thats easy........
Basically Im looking for what SWG started out as. It doesnt have to be Star wars but it should have the same style and systems in place.
Thats just a few of the things that would get me interested in an MMO again long term.

|
That settles it for me.......
As far as im concerned no classic server means no game. I feel the same way about this issue that I do about SWG. If this company cant see the forest for the trees and revert these games back to the condition in which they were their most successful then i have no time and more importantly no money for them.

won people's choice award, but will it beat out WAR?
General Discussion « Age of Conan 1/06/08 10:57:14 AM
Lets put it in terms the layman can understand shall we?
McDonalds is by no means gourmet food however they do appeal to the masses. Sushi IS gourmet food and while there are literally hundreds of thousands of people who love sushi it will never compare in relative popularity with Mcdonalds. Funcom makes good games. They dont necessarily appeal to the masses but they appeal to more than enough people to warrant their existence and even prosperity.

Let's See What Players Really Want
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 1/06/08 10:49:06 AM
I have made my position on this clear on these forums for many years.....
I would prefer the sandbox style of SWG classic (ie release til about 8 months later) Over the linear style of WOW, EQ, LOTRO etc.. ad nauseum. Any day of the week.

TR is not worthy even to untie AO's sandals Im afraid.....
The difference between these two games is immeasurable. TR is shallow twitxhy and very limited as far as character diversity. AO even now has a more open feel to it than 99 percent of current MMOs. Its about choices and gameplay. AO was on the right path. TR couldnt find the path with a search party and mobile GPS.

Well....... If the trailer is any indication. The graphics dont look too bad.. It doesnt really give any indication of what the gameplay will be like though. They really should be further along in this process if they intend to release the game this year.

Here is how it goes down......
I wait for release day and go into my local EB games or Gamestop and ask for a copy. They tell me they are sorry but they only got 10 copies and they were all pre ordered. So I walk across the parking lot to Best buy and get one of the 50 copies they have out on the shelves......
I dont know why I bother with EB or Gaestop anymore. They never have the popular games in stock. I always end up getting them at Best Buy. If it werent for trade in sales they would go right out of business.

The Feeling about Stealth out of WAR Poll
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 12/25/07 7:11:49 PM
I love that there is no stealth......
Invisibility is just a cheapening of the PVP experience in my opinion. If you want to be sneaky then you should have to actually sneak. The exclusion of stealth is just another reason why this game will be great.

Will Mythic use the nerf bat anymore?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 12/24/07 9:25:56 AM
They absolutely will.
Honestly the nerf bat is really the only weapon that developers have. They must use it to combat imbalance in the game. It really is for the best. i dont understand why everyone cries about it. It is for the betterment of our game. If it reduces your characters effectiveness in combat than perhaps he was too effective.

check out the video podcasts on youtube......
According to them there will be both and they will count equally towards the final goals. I like that they are giving us the option. I enjoy a fair fight with even teams in an instanced BG as much as the next guy but thats not really war is it. War is fought in the open world and the odds are sometimes stacked against me. i like that too.
|
|
|
I sincerely hope so.....
Maybe WAR will break up the monotony better than the current batch does. I have high hopes for the PVP in that game to make the difference since it will not just be repetitive instanced battlegrounds but actual sieges and open land warfare as well. All I have ever wanted in a game was a reason to fight as opposed to just because we are on different sides. I still say the only game that ever broke free of the standard MMO stigma was SWG in its earliest form. Removing cookie cutter classes and making spawns and content random and dynamic as well as instituting a completely player crafted item based economy was sheer brilliance and up until they started making changes that altered the game (Doc buffs, Jedi hologrind,) It was an amazing game with no limits other than your imagination.
