This early on not many understand the need for tactics in the game. they have all come from games where it didnt matter. Its hard to break that mindset and teach them that we can only win as a team and all this lone ranger BS will simply not work here. I have been constantly starting off each Scenario by telling everyone to stick together and which flags are worth holding and which to let fall as well as the importance of killing the healers before engaging the tanks. unfortunately at this stage very few are willing to listen and they charge off by themselves into a group of enemies to die all the while screaming heal and then telling everyone else that they are the ones who suck because we lost.

Anyone else waiting for the new classes?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 10/06/08 2:09:56 PM
I think the classes that are available now are decent however the choice of tanks on the order side just arent visually appealing. This is evidenced by the obvious lack of tanks vs the opposition which seems to be almost exclusively made up of tanks and healers. There is an obvious imbalance due mostly to the fact that there is very little to attract people to playing the most needed classes on the order side. The reason there are so many chosen and marauders as well as zealots is that they look awesome where their order counterparts look boring at best and awful at worst.

Is your first MMORPG still your favourite? (Poll)
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/04/08 5:31:22 PM
EQ was my first and while it was great alas it was not my favorite.
SWG for the first several moths after its release was my absolute favorite MMO. For the first time there was a game with no boundaries. It was innovative well beyond its contemporaries and there has never since been a MMO that can deliver the virtual world experience that SWG made possible. When the whiners started getting their way and they added Doc buffs and holocrons and such the end was obviously near but those glorious months prior to that were pure bliss.

Originally posted by bodypass PvP balance of classes in Wow is - for an MMORPG - superb. You want proof? Look at the top rated 500 arena players (from a posssible 10.000.000 btw) and you'll see that EVERY class is represented in that category. IF the classes were unbalanced, only 2 or 3 classes would be in that top 500 list. Every class is represented in that absolute top. For SOME classes SOME arena setups are more difficult, but all classes shine if you take the combined 2vs2, 3vs3 or 5 vs 5 arena plays. And these millions of fights show that you'll find all classes in that 2100+ rating category. So these facts show clearly you're wrong. As a matter of fact tx to arena we get excellent facts and stats how the classes interact with each other. A heaven to analyse. Players who say "arena sucks" btw are clearly saying "I suck in arena". Players like to think they are Carl Lewis but in reality they just don't play very well their class. I am glad you can see that all classes can get very high ratings in the combined arena settings. Adding world PvP in WotlK now and tuning it is far easier with balancing techniques the arena system delivers than having ' a wet thumb in the air".
Nobody here cares about WOW man. We all left that game because we were sick of its stale old repetitive garbage and you coming onto this board to sing its praises for putting new lipstick on an old worn out pig just reeks of desperate fanboism. If its so fabulous go play it instead of trying to convince people who have moved on that they were mistaken or will regret it because of some future ploy by Blizzard to prolong WOW's market viability.

I will admit that WAR has its problems right now however In my opinion its still the most entertaining PVP MMO out on the market. Its very casual friendly which is great for a lot of people. I for one am not big on quests as I was spoiled by classic SWG's make your own adventure style and I find linear quests to be extremely boring since most of them are predictable, formulaic and poorly written. I like the fact that I pretty much dont have to do them at all and I can pick and choose while still getting decent xp and gear from PVP and PQs.
WOW doesnt fit my playstyle unfortunately. I played it for over a year and it never felt as free and open as WAR does while neither of them can compare at all to original SWG.

I am so pissed at my poor Rune Priest
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 10/04/08 3:08:18 PM
If you have ever played the engi then you would know that the barbed wire is nigh unto useless. Its duration is short and it breaks as soon as the person caught in it takes any damage. I have saved the ass of many a healer by dying in their place which is me doing my job. Its not a flaw in the RP class its a flaw in the tactics of the team around them that makes your chosen class less fun to play. maybe if the que system for scenarios would pull in more balanced teams then your experience would be less of a buzzkill. I am utterly disheartened when we are all waiting for the timer to tell us we can go and all I see around me is a bunch of one class or another. Either there are no tanks or no healers or its all dpsers which most of the time unless the other side has suffered the same misfortune means you are going to lose and badly. I will concede that compared to the zealot the rune priest simply doesnt measure up however its hardly a broken class either. I have seen several RPs who survived nearly the entire scenario without dying so there are a lot of variables at work here. its not a simple matter of saying that RP is better or worse than any other class. they all seem to have their flaws. some are just more obvious than others.

The difference being of course that if you are getting killed constantly as a healer then your team isnt doing their job. If you get killed constantly as an engineer its just business as usual.

For real. look at engineer. They often do the most overall damage in the scenario but they also die the most and rarely ever actually kill anyone. Its just not their MO. If you are going to play a support class then get used to this being your lot in life.

|
|
Well if you are looking for a career with a lot to do I suggest Engineer. They are underpowered right now but I think they will address that soon. Lots of options though. have a bar and a half of hot keys already and im only lvl 11.

For the player who misses the original MMORPG design.
MMORPG Game Concepts « Developers Corner 10/04/08 11:10:33 AM
That would be great.
A "classic" server on each game would be just excellent especially for games that have really strayed far from their original state. If EQ or SWG had one of these I would likely have never left. |

Im not saying that GW wasnt an ok game. I mentioned it because it has that same detached from society feeling that WAR has. its hardly a community. If you are not in a guild you have very little interaction with the rest of the populace with the exception of the pvp arena.

I have to give the OP credit. When you're right you're right.
WAR feels way more Guild Wars than it does EQ. Even WOW had more community interaction than this does. I cant really blame the players for this either since all the mechanics of the game are centered around PUGs and really dont promote any socializing amongst non guildies.
As much as I enjoy the occasional instance I think this game may truly have been better off without these scenarios. They are far from balanced anyway. It only limits the amount of players per side not taking into consideration the levels or classes ending up with severely lopsided battles. If they had simply made more static areas of the game open PVP and left the scenarios out I believe it would be a better player experience overall. If none of this changes I will probably dump WAR when the new KOTOR MMO releases.

Not that im aware of. I have a lvl 8 swordmaster and I dont have anything like that. either there was a healer about or someone dumped a nice HOT on him. OR he had some good potions.

PVP glitchy last night after patch?
General Discussion « WAR (Warhammer Online) 10/03/08 2:28:00 PM
Anyone else notice this? IT seemed to me that there was more lag and graphical glitches than usual. At one point while capturing the lighthouse flag on nordenwatch i fell through the ground and died. It seemed a lot smoother before the patch.

kotaku had this up today. Apparently they will be revealing the new Bioware Kotor MMO later this month. www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php

I roll need on everything period. they might as well just automatically roll the loot and give it to whoever wins. I dont have time to stop in the middle of a fight and examine a piece we are rolling on. If everybody just rolls need then nobody can bitch about it being unfair. the lucky roll gets the loot.
|
|
|
Everyone should just roll need all the time in scenarios. Just let fate decide who gets what. that way nobody feels cheated. The only other way would be to only let the class that can use the item roll on it.
