1st Beta Weekend I was excited, now 2nd beta... not so much
Beta Reviews & Impressions « The Secret World 5/18/12 9:00:58 PM
They locked the higher abilities becase its a beta. They want to get you excited about the game but not show you everything. The ladies don't show you everything on the first or second date. You gotta wine and dine them for a bit before they'll lift their skirts. |

Aion followed by Warhammer Online followed by Dragon Age 2. |

How do you kill that which has no life? How do you ruin that which was never good to begin with? |

There's nothing wrong with not staying interested in a game after two months. They aren't meant to. Its about quality, not quantity. In five hours of playing a single player rpg I get far more entertainment than even playing a 'good' mmo for 10 hours interspersed could give me. You don't sit there watching a movie over and over, saying to yourself "Hey, one movie should be good enough to entertain me for an indefinate time" or sit down and play socom or even a single player rpg and say 'hey, this game is going to be my sole entertainment for a year'. You don't read and re-read the same novel, you enjoy it for what it is and move on to another one. Perhaps later on, after you've read some other novels, you might want to reread that one again, but its purpose isn't designed to keep you coming back again and again, that's what an addiction is. Video Games are boxed experiences. All MMOs do is take the experience of a single player rpg and streatch all that entertainment out across a ridiculous timespan, diluting the fun but creating filler and using the bragging factor and addicting qualities to keep people playing regardless. Its a money making scheme. |

Its a staple because its stupid. Video Game Designers make a product. MMO Designers make an addiction.
Video Games rely on your satisfaction to earn revenue. MMOs rely on your dissatisfaction and addiction to earn a revenue. They're little better than the porn industry or drug dealers. |

Dungeons and Dragons trumps MMOs everytime. I get my cooperative rpg fix that way. |

Dude, I was making a joke referring to Blizzard, trust me I've tried nearly every mmo under the sun that isn't a steaming pile of horse shit. |

Lol, I was here for a while when I did play mmos. I'm just explaining that mmos aren't for everyone, and they aren't for me. I'll be a lot of mmo tourists really don't like mmos but think that the way mmos present themselves should make them the greatest games in history.
To quote Bilbo baggins from lord of the rings, MMOs "feel thin... like butter, scraped over too much bread." |

Or bring three friends over and play halo co-op or borderlands or something. |

I play single player rpgs to experience a story and have fun with a video game. If I want human interaction I go out and do something with people. |

A single player rpg game is like playing in a novel, with an intelligent world, story, and characters thought out already. I want immersion, not to be insulted because my gearscore is too low or I'm playing a stupid build.
No thanks, I like the experience of single player rpgs and people are dicks. |

I have finally figured it out. After spending nearly five years playing various mmos, subbing and unsubbing, etc. I have come to a very important conclusion. I don't like mmorpgs. I play single player rpgs and have so much fun playing them, getting into the story, feeling the characters, etc. I play an mmo and I feel like its a job, like I'm just speed leveling and am not really interested in what's going on. Therefore I admit, to this entire community, that I am ignoring mmos from here on out. Goodbye, so long, Blizzard you will no longer get my money, peace I'm out. |

LOTRO Revenue Doubled since going F2P
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/08/10 4:06:59 PM
Well they have quest packs, which bind to account, not player, they have bag addons, which bind to account, remove credit cap, more character slots, etc. I think LOTRO is the best for previously subbing pkayers who go free to play, because we get all the expansions and a lot of other stuff off the hop, even if we're no longer subbed. |

Every game has its haters, and it seems like everyone on these forums hates every game, so whatever. |

Bioware has not let me down in the more than a decade I have enjoyed their products, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.
I just don't think they understand the market too well though. MMOS succeed not by being fun, but by being addicting, forcing grinding and tricking the player into thinking they're having fun. I don't know if they'll be able to keep players after they go through their content. |

You're on the wrong forums for help, people are dooshbags here. The community here is made up primarily of old school mmo elitest jerks who love to troll everything and everyone.
PS: you might consider instead just making an rpg, settle with that. There are a variety of rpgmakers out there, some of which require little to no scripting knowledge. Proper google techniques can nab you a free copy. |

What should be the primary motivating factor in an MMORPG?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 10/04/10 9:50:15 PM
Well it seems from my perview of these forums that most people's reason for playing is finding more things to bitch about.
Myself, I find MMOS the closest thing to the depth and awesomness that is tabletop rpgs without being tabletop rpgs. |
