I really didn't like that zone that was right before VT. Not sure why, I just didn't like it haha.

I LOVED Plane of Water however, but I could see why people wouldn't like it. I thought it was a cool idea though. Coirnav raids ftw!

I haven't played EQ in many many years. I played primarily during Velious / Planes of Power but also did a stint in Omen of War. After that I haven't touched anything.

I am wondering what the game is like now? What is the raiding like? Is everything instanced now or are there still open world bosses? * FUN! *

I looooved Velious, Luclin and even Planes of Power. The elemental planes were truly challenging and fun, especially the plane of water for some reason (masochistic? perhaps).

Is the raiding anything like it was in those 3 expansions? I really cannot find a game that fills the void that EQ left, and I'm starting to think that theres a possibility no one will create a game quite like EQ ever again.

I am a raider at heart so that's what I'm most interested in. How is the raiding in todays EQ and how does it stack up against the raiding in Velious, SoL, and PoP?

Have a good dinner =) 20 days is a long time to wait. If you are anything like me, you want things right here, right now, and usually stop at nothing to achieve that goal. I've wasted a lot of money on MMORPGs that way. Re-subbing to old flings to try them out again adds up. Resub to EQ2, VG, WoW, AoC all within a week of each other because it takes only a few minutes in game to realize why you left in the first place. That's 60 dollars down the drain.

I'd suggest saving that money and putting it into an Aion pre-order, or better yet take your wife to a movie or on a road trip somewhere fun but near by. There are plenty of better things to do with your time and money than to waste it on a "what-if" that you already know the answer to.

If NCSoft and Aion aren't your cup of tea ( I've played the Aion beta, it's nothing like TR and it's a very very fun and polished experience compared to what we've seen lately ) there are many other good games coming out in the near future. Theres a new Halo and COD coming out, Dragon Age Origins, as well as a slew of new MMORPGs next year alone.

Trust me, you'll regret going back to WoW because it won't take you long to realize why you quit again and you can't get that money or time back.

I resubbed after watching Blizzcon. Already canceled my account again. There is a reason we left WoW. It's outdated, it's lackluster, and we've done it all a billion times before.

Just put down the urge. Play an FPS or Console Game or something until Aion comes out. At least with Aion you will get the same if not higher quality of Polish that we love about WoW with a new setting to level up in and a reason to be social.

20 days left. Can you fight the urge for 20 days?

That's like if my father were to go out and say "Hey son, I bought you a lifetime subscription to Darkfall because I think it's awesome!"   and then I would die a little bit inside.

Everquest was a world rather than a theme-park. The game thrived due to it's playerbase having control. There was no Auction House, rather people used a main City or a tunnel in a close by zone for trading.

There was no "gather 6 pelts" or "gather 4 snake fingers" type quests. And unless you picked a certain few classes soloing was very difficult after the lower levels. This promoted group play and social interaction, and gave people a choice as to what they wanted to do in the game.

What made Everquest so special for most of us was that it gave us the option to do what we wanted to in the game and didn't force us one direction or the other. It promoted Social play and that is the benefit of playing an MMORPG over a single player game, whether some people like to agree or not.

By the time you reached max level ( it took me over a year for my first toon, which sounds long, but the game was so fun and immersive you didn't even notice ) you had made hundreds of friends and usually found a decent guild of people or one you strived to join. End game guilds took on new players and gave them the benefit of the doubt, rather than just checking their gear and dismissing them. The guilds had high confidence that if you attained maximum level in a game like this, you had a good knowledge of how to play and interact with other people and how to control your class in a co-op setting.

Everquest will never be re-created again. It's not economically sound. The mass market of MMORPG players now days ( brought in by WoW ) are not interested in an Immersive world but are instead interested in a single player game with other people around them so that they can flex their Epeen and feel special. They do not enjoy a game like Everquest because they do not want to be immersed into a game world and/or social environment. This does not promote investors to re-create a game like Everquest because that's just not where the money is.

If something like Everquest ever came along again, it would only have a fraction of what WoW has in terms of subscribers sadly to say. It's an unfortunate devolution and it can't be fixed now.

I LOL at this post and this is NOT the EQ i remembered (and I played starting from beta).

1) It is just a diku MUD with graphics. You have as much control as WOW. It is hack-n-slash and no more than that.

2) No AH -> inefficient. Yeah, I remember that tunnel. AH is much much better. How can one argue a lack of feature is a good thing?

3) It is kill n mob to level. The difference is that you only kill the most efficent mob (remember grinding at that temple killing lizard men, anyone?) and quest grinding send you to all over the world. Quest grinding >>>> single mob grinding in terms of variety and fun factor. Once again, funny to see people complaining about a FEATURE. If you want, you can always go back to mob grinding in new quest-based games. The mobs are there, you know.

4) It is too long to level up and too little content. You spend weeks kiling the SAME mob to level. Thank GOD i don't have to do that again.

EQ would not be recreated again is because it is less fun than the newer MMOs .. particularly WOW.

Ok, you didn't like the game. That is your opinion. Those inefficient and annoying things you are talking about in EQ? Well they are part of the game and for some people made it so great. Different strokes for different folks. Thanks for your opinion.

True Class Balance = FPS shooters. MMO's will never achieve perfect "Class Balance" because Classes aren't designed to be balanced, they are designed to be a different and offer a different gameplay style.

Folks,

Some of you DONT have a clue what I am talking about. If you wanst playing an ONLINE game 5 years ago, your opinion about WoW dont count to much.

5 years ago, remember what games was on.... Warcraft3, Diablo... Quake... and derivations.... EQ1 with crap graphics.... and the comes WoW.. when you started to play that game, was something... was like WOOOOOW thats a real game, AMAZING.

To have the same feeling like 5 years ago TODAY, I should probable play a game like in a real movie, to SEE a real difference, peoples from Quake to WoW is a HUGE step forward, I dont see that in any other MMO, and sincerely, almost ALL of them SUX, there is NOTHING at the moment to make me say again, WOOOOW I MUST PLAY THAT.

I wasn't at all impressed with WoW when it first released. I came from EQ1 > FFXI > WoW and to be honest FFXI's graphics and EQs world and gameplay were vastly superior and occurred before WoW was thought of.

Very cool vid. Only 21 days to go.

All those people that say its "Just another asian grindfest" or "All PVP with shitty PVE" should watch this video and rethink.

I'll be playing Aion. I prefer bug - free, well optimized game / graphics engine, and an immersive world with real PVP and real PVE endgame rather than them both being tacked onto a single player game and called an MMO like CO.

"Additional instances cannot be launched" ... Good thing a multi billion dollar company can't upgrade hardware when they stupidly funneled everyone into ToC instance. Blizzard doesn't care about their cash cow anymore because people are so stuck on it. Why bother?

I have this issue, but only with certain abilities. For the most part abilities respond like they should, but on others it can be quite a problem. I can't remember the name's of the abilities, but I have a melee character focused on single swords. The leap ability under martial arts, when I use it, has three responses:

1. Wait two seconds to finally respond, leap at target.

2. Not respond to the click at all.

3. Perform the leap away ability rather than the leap toward (the same move dependent on which direction you are moving).

I also have another issue with Dragon's Bite (at least that was what I think it was called; it is the charged attack that grants the energy bonus on single swords... bare with me). It will either take a second or two to actually respond, or not respond at all. And since it's a charge ability, this can get rather frustrating. I'll hold it for say a second and get no response, so I'll stop charging in thinking that it didn't respond. Turns out right after I stop holding down the mouse the charger pops up, but only charges to halfway. It's doubly frustrating due to the fact that the ability only has use when fully charged (of course, you can use it without the charge, but it has little benefit without the energy bonus granted).

I'm pretty sure it isn't an issue with my computer, either. My computer falls well above the maximum specifications and the game runs like butter, thankfully and surprisingly for pre-launch, and I only have an issue with these two abilities so far in terms of response times. I find it to be a rather annoying and moderate issue that needs to be adressed, considering these are major abilities within a specific set of powers. I wonder how many other abilities have this response issue?

Ignoring the OP for being troll.

That Lunge ability sucks.  You have to move in a direction.  I figured it out after I read what it does.  As for when powers go off.  They only have a 5 ft range.  If you charge something up and they start to move away your not gonna hit them.  It sucks.  They need to do something with Melee.  Right now its very weak.

Keep calling me a troll. I don't really care. Just because the game runs fine for you doesn't mean that it's everyone elses fault.  http://forums.champions-online.com/forumdisplay.php?f=104  If you really don't believe me go there. Tons of people having the same problems.

It's a lot of people having these same issues. It  has part to do with their User Interface dropping FPS and part to do with their game doesn't support multi-core GPUs because it was designed for Console gameplay. It puts more stress on your CPU than your GPU.

I'm sure they'll fix it eventually. When they do maybe I'll try it out again. Not worth my time atm though.

I turned the graphics down as far as they would go. It's not on my client's end.

Now if only they could fix their graphics engine and make it not be a total piece of shit we might be in business. The tech support forum at CO is filled with people with high end machines far surpassing min specs *me included* who can't even play the game because it's configured so horribly. The User Interface is one of the worst FPS droppers I've seen, but they notice this so hopefully it will get fixed.

Definately not the best launch I've seen. But for the people without issues it's probably not the worst either.

Truth is, you don't know until you log in to the game and try it out. My specs are at least double yours and I get movement lag and FPS loss. It's a terribly optimized game engine and the graphics don't warrant the strain it puts on your system.

I don't mean attack cooldowns, I mean your character responds to movement very slowly.

I played Champions for an hour or 2 then went and played WoW for a bit and felt like I was some kind of movement god. In most MMOs your character responds to keystrokes immediately. In CO the response is just off.

Yup its almost as if im playing Warhammer agian.  Well maybe not that bad but it diffenently is noticeable...

It seems Cryptic didn't learn the lesson in WAR...

It's kind of too bad, I like this game enough that I'd sub to it but I can't shake that sluggish feeling. I'm assuming it's not something they'll be able to fix in the near future, so probably won't be re-ordering. Hmmph.

Does it feel like your character has to think about for a second or so before you move? It might just be the lag in the starting zone because so many people are playing atm, just feels that way to me. I have a high end PC and run at max settings just as well as I do at the lowest possible settings so not sure what the deal is here.
