not really sure why it has to be only one side or the other.. me personally I like both types of combat if done well.. i like gw2 style when I really want some fast paced skill based combat and i like slower more turned based combat when I want a slower more strategic style system.. not sure why so many are so left fence right fence on the topic

I agree with you completely. I play Tera for my action combat fix. But I still appreciate a more tactical approach such as FFXIV uses, and disagree with the previous poster about them "having learned nothing".

Man you guys are harsh. I thought the game was actually pretty good. If you tried to play it solo like a WoW clone, and gave up on it after your first quest where u didn't get an epic item, then I can see the hate. 

For some people, who are sick of the current joke MMORPGs, it was a nice change of pace.

Not saying I'd pay 15/mo for it, but it's a nice back up game. Reminds me of a 3d Hardcore D2.

It's a game that worries more about combat positioning, timing, and combining group members abilities to have an increased effects.

Sure, you could stand in one place the whole time, and be terrible. Most abilities work better / combo in a certain position or condition. 

There are tanks, healers, support, and DPS classes. If you prefer running around in circles spamming attacks, you won't find that in FFXIV. FF games have always been more about tactical combat than spammy combat.

Penalty for failure is absolutely mandatory. Theres a reason why Dark Souls has such a huge following. The point of a "game" is that you can win or lose. Risk vs Reward. 

Ever since WoW came along, games have been losing the risk portion. You can say I'm wrong, you can say death penalties are pointless, but I guarantee the next big thing will go back to the root of gaming in general. Risk vs Reward.

I was never a fan of holy trinity. I'm also not a fan of free for all combat as in GW2. I prefer EQ's method. Tanks, Healers, DPS, Buffers, Debuffers, Pullers. 

Make more group roles, not less.
