I have created a number of browser based games over the past 15 years, some have been successful while most have gone up in flames ....

For the past 7 months as an indie developer I have been working very hard on a new 2D browser based MMORPG called Lands of Hope Redemption. A prequel to one of my more successful games in recent years ... Releasing officially tomorrow (October 3rd)

Many of my previous games were largely text based back when text based was new and hip ... but LoH:R is full 2D using HTML5/Javascript with no flash plugin or JAVA required. It should work on most platforms as long as your web browser supports HTML5 which is fine with the browsers released in the last few years such as Chrome, Firefox etc ....

You can play Lands of Hope Redemption directly from the website at via Facebook at and via Kongregate at

LoHR features a lot of cool and unique features as well as the staples you expect to find in most games:

·         Sprite Based 2D Graphics.

·         HTML5 Canvas / Javascript Hybrid (Compatible on Windows, Mac, Linux and more....)

·         Class Templates or Build Your Own

·         Sound Effects and Music

·         201 Level Limit (Overpower Levels can be obtained at level 201 for even more levelling options)

·         118 Large Maps to Explore

·         Open World Gameplay Elements

·         Dungeons and Ruins to Explore

·         Over 60 General Skills such as Cartography, Hunting and Fishing etc …

·         Over 150 Combat Powers

·         Tens of Thousands of Items to Loot / Steal or Craft

·         Crafting

·         Gathering

·         Rogue Skills such as Stealing / Shadowstrike / Stealth and Lockpicking.

·         Home Ownership

·         Pets

·         Player Stores

·         Guilds and Groups

·         Hundreds of Hours of Gameplay content.

·         Turn Based Combat

·         Armor and Weapon Sets

·         Integration with Facebook / Kongregate and more.

You can play Lands of Hope Redemption directly from the website at via Facebook at and via Kongregate at

Over the past month we have been busy adding new content to the game and there are now quests and monsters all the way up to level 100!

INDIANA, US - Lands of Hope Redemption a new Browser Based RPG currently in BETA has now expanded content to include the Eastern Lands, and quests and monsters up to level 100.

LoHR currently features 60 maps with numerous, quests, dungeons, monsters and more!

The Eastern Lands include the "Asian" inspired Town of Hasumachi, as well as dozens of new dungeons.

This recent update also included new artwork for the Pirate player sprites, and the Legend promotion Cerberus pet!

LoHR is currently in a No-Wipe BETA test and is available for play directly through our website at via Kongregate at and even through a Facebook App.

Thousands of people have already taken part in the BETA and we are constantly adding new content and tweaking the game to get it just right for the planned full release later this year!

If you are looking for something new and fun to play that is unlike anything you have tried before please consider giving LoHR a try!

Hi folks,

Lands of Hope Redemption is a new MMORPG that entered Open BETA a week or so ago. It is an independent project developed solely by myself.

LoHR is essentially the third game in the Lands of Hope franchise and is set before the events of the first LoH that was released in 2005.

This game featured custom 2d Sprites and Artwork while the original LOH was text based.

Features include:

  1. Questing
  2. Monsters
  3. Combat
  4. Crafting
  5. Gathering
  6. Thousands of Item combinations
  7. Linear Story OR Open World
  8. Pets
  9. Guilds
  10. Group
  11. Player Housing
  12. much much more ....
Please check the game out at or via Facebook or via Kongregate.
Let me know what you think and thanks for trying!

Well good luck!

This NPC teaches the Appraisal skill but not till around level 35.

You can ask other players to identify items for you, or find Appraisal NPCs to do it for you at a cost of ingame money.

Once you have the Skill you can raise it appraising Items OR Appraising monsters, the latter tends to be faster due to the varied nature of item levels.

The Server itself was moved a couple of months ago, from being hosted at my house using a powerful server TO being hosted in a world class data center on an even more powerful server so I am not sure why you are experiencing speed issues on certain parts of it.

Again this could be an issue with the way your computer is setup. Perhaps an add-on running in the browser you are using to play the game.

Have you tried using a different web browser? The game should work in pretty much any browser some seem to be faster than others.

Thanks! I love my job :)

Hi folks,

I just wanted to post this here to help any of you that may possibly be overwhelmed at the start of the game.

There is a popup that comes up that should explain this but if for some reason that is not working on your computer please read the following.

She is an NPC with an eye problem at the exact spot you begin at. All you need do is click on her picture to "talk" to her.

She will then take you through some simple talking quests where all you have to do is read some text and click Complete to continue. For those of you who hate reading you can of course click complete but things may get confusing from here on out.

At the end of talking with her (about 5 or 6 quests) you will have a Skill credit which can be used to get your first combat skill using the flashing chest on the ground. (Click on the chest)

You should also be pointed to the first dungeon you will need to use to get started.

Yes you can wander around the above ground map but as one person has already commented here the monsters are not suited to new players.

If you follow the starting quests you will progressively work through the right level dungeons until you know the basics.

Alternatively if you must deviate from the plot use the menus at the top of the screen to go to World > Landmarks, then type in the level range of dungeon you are looking for and away you go!

You will also find the players in chat are helpful so if you have questions or find yourself stuck please speak up and ask in chat!

Did you try talking to Annabeth Scott the NPC with the serious eye infection?

She will explain the basics of the game. She will then point you to a dungeon that has level 1 monsters in it to cut your teeth at fighting.

You are not meant to wander around where you start in the Map as the monsters will as you have discovered be too hard to fight.

If you follow the basic training quests from Annabeth you will find dungeons and slowly learn how to use the game.

If you ignore what Annabeth has to say then it may very well be too overwhelming for you.

I am sorry you dislike my website, what exactly do you not like about it?

Also if you check out our wiki at you may find a lot of information that you may have overlooked.

The game site at or is literally used to access the game and the game itself if you want more help you can use the Library / Support and Help menus in game which have links to both the support site and the wiki page etc ...

Edit: I have updated the game login page with links to the Wiki, and also the Character selection page.

But please do let me know what it is you do not like about the site. Thanks!

Owner of Lands of Hope Phoenix Edition

Over the last week or so I have added a level 600 - 700 Quest Arc for the Dragonslaying Guild. With 5 new dungeons and thousands of monsters to kill!

Today I implemented a new Halloween event where players can enter a pumpkin patch in the first realm and gather pumpkins. The player with the heaviest pumpkin at the end of two hours wins an ingame prize.

  • Real Time Chat

Most epic feature i have ever seen...lmao

There are plenty of browser games with either no chat, chat in a popup or third party or a delayed chat system.

Real Time Chat is therefore a valid and important feature. I am glad it has taken your interest.

Some more screenshots:

Normal Combat

Vessel Equipment

I'm sure I will. I'm just one person.

I will say though, to this one person, seeing proper spelling and grammar in a video game is important. It's like audio in a movie. You don't have much wiggle room as you do with almost every other aspect of the movie. The audio can't be out of sync and the dialogue can't be inaudible. Same thing with spelling and grammar in my opinion. It's one of those things that needs to be right.

Well as I wrote pretty much 98% of everything that shows up in the first game and the second game the buck stops with me.

I will say one thing tho whether or not it explains your problem or not I dont know ...

I am from England, although I now live in the USA. Some of my spellings end up being English/American/Englican. For example the US tendancy to have "or" at the end of words where the English have "our". Examples being flavor/flavour - color/colour etc ...

As for anything else in the new game as with the old game you can submit Bugs straight to me and bugs with text/typos etc are acceptable. Use the Support menu then click Report Bug. So if you see anything report it.

IT shares the same name BUT it has been redesigned immensely. The interface has been hugely simplified ... gameplay elements totally redesigned. Please give it a try ...

Hi folks, it has been a while since I have posted on these forums. For the last 6+ months I have been working on a new version of the award winning Lands of Hope browser game.

I am now able to say it is up and running as Open BETA. Everyone is invited to play!

Lands of Hope was a game that revolutionized the Online RPG browser game market when it came out 6 years ago, many of the subsequent games seen in the market since then have pulled concepts and ideas from Lands of Hope and interwoven them into their own design.

Just like its predecessor Forlorn Hope Online which also changed the gaming world when it came out in 2001!

Anyway enough about what has come before, you all want to know what Phoenix Edition has to offer!

Here are some of the features:

  • Unique and pleasing artwork
  • Real Time Chat
  • Large game world and dungeons to explore
  • Hundreds of quests
  • Two sided gameplay, play as either the Chosen or a Reaper.
  • A new Story that follows on and changes the events of the original Lands of Hope
  • All new screens, redesigned faster features.
  • Gathering and Crafting
  • Fighting
  • Guilds
  • Land Ownership with unique benefits to tiles of Land and where they are located.
  • Pet and Mount ownership

In essence this game takes the strongest elements of LoH, and sees the weakest parts get whacked repeatedly with a mallet until they are much better!

You do not need to have played the original LoH the game is designed to be enjoyable both for the novice and advanced gamer.

This game should work equally well on all Web Browsers, it does not use Flash which means it should work on Tablets such as the Ipad and even some of the more powerful smart phones.

You can find the game at ... please remember this is an Open BETA so there will be changes and some aspects of the game are not 100% done!

If you give Firefox a few seconds to cache all of the images it needs the flickering should go away, failing that try refreshing the browser and it should go away.

If you choose to play the game in Firefox you will not experience the game the way it was intended to be played that is all.

I would make a page to cache ALL of the games images and therefore negate the flickering issue for Firefox but we are talking thousands upon thousands of images and that in itself could take quite a while to cache on computers with slower internet connections.

I have added some code now that precaches sprite images for sprites in use in the current area when you change areas it is not 100% foolproof but it should mean that in general Firefox should not flicker.

Thank you for playing, here are my responses to your CONS.

  • Character customization, artwork is expensive until the game makes more money I cant afford to throw thousands of dollars at new avatars although it is on the cards as something I would like to do when the game is making more money.
  • Sorry but this is not a rogue game, I have no intention of adding anything to do with stealing/sneaking or that kind of thing I do not see it as necessary with this type of game.
  • The MUSIC has been designed for me by a Sound Artist, I have used it in Lands of Hope another game I have written but aside from that the music is 100% original.
  • Lag, are you playing the game in Google or Internet Explorer, the former is highly recommended for play as it runs the game the fastest. Any other browser including Firefox is not 100% compatible and has little issues that may affect gameplay.
  • Content, I wanted it easy enough at the start that anyone could pick it up and play with it without needing a PHD, if you want hard I recommend Lands of Hope
  • Aggro, I am not sure why this is a Con, what would be the point of Monsters that didnt want to attack you?

Petalcotta just mentioned to me you were using Google. There is a command line switch you can use when running Chrome that has helped some people out in terms of performance boost.

Talk to me the next time you are in game and I will try to help you with that.

I would like to share with you all a game called Legendary Voyage, it is a game that I developed on my own and would like to make a little more popular than it currently is.

Let me start by telling you all a bit about the game itself.

You begin Legendary Voyage as a young peasant (for want of a better word) in the late 15th to early 16th century, you are one of a handful of people lucky enough to bribe your way aboard a vessel heading to the Americas and you hope that you will be able to make a name for yourself in this new land.

Unfortunately things do not go quite to plan, the journey is uneventful at first but one night a few weeks into the voyage a terrible storm hits and the vessel sinks.

You appear to be the sole survivor as you come to on some distant land, rather concerning is the fact that the sky now has two suns rather than the one you have been used to your whole life and while this land seems similar as you are about to find out in your epic journey you are not in kansas anymore!

The story will go on to explain where exactly you are and how you got there as you play the game.

  1. A distinct levelling system that uses discovery points rather than experience. You gain 1 discovery point for each of the following actions.
    • Fighting and killing a new monster for the first time.
    • Discovering a secret area.
    • Finding a gem from a treasure chest.
    • Discovering a new gathering resource.
    • Discovering a new crafting plan.
  2. Hundreds of quests.
  3. 90% of the Game is Instanced to your own character meaning you never have to worry about competing for the same monster or resource.
  4. Public towns and other areas for chatting and player interaction.
  5. Resource gathering and Questing.
  6. Guilds with cool Guild rewards.
  7. Parties with cool Party rewards.
  8. Totally browser based using Javascript and AJAX and no third party components.
  9. Regular daily updates from me the game developer.
  10. Over 60 playable levels of gameplay.
  11. Player and Guild housing.
  12. Pets
  13. Forms and Titles

I know this style of game and infact likely the 2d graphics will not appeal to everyone, but I really feel that this game is quite distinct and unique from other games out there.

For example the discovery system rewards people who take the time to explore rather than sitting in one spot beating down a monster!
