General: Steam "Perils of Summer" Sale Offers MMO Deals
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/29/10 7:26:07 AM
I think no mmo actually uses steam so when you buy an mmo from steam youre just buying a game from a digital store, most likely you dont even have to have Steam on to play the games. Its a pretty safe bet that you need to make an account for the specific game for it to activate. |

Why do we gank? A PvPers' confession thread.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/28/10 7:39:49 AM
I think levels should be hidden to the enemy faction on a PvP server and completely hidden to anyone but the player in an open pvp game. |

Which IP would you like to see made into an MMo?
General Gaming « General Discussion 6/27/10 11:52:46 AM
Alot of great games could come from these IPs but I chose Starcraft, becouse its the most obvious candidate for a 3 faction RvR mmo. |

I bought the game a while back but only recently got back to playing becouse FINALLY they put in dedicated servers. Before dedis the lag was horrible and barely anyone was playing. Now people are back and its great fun. That being said the game is light on maps at this point. It makes up for it though with 4 distinct classes that are all fun to play and alot of modes. The graphics look great and do a great job creating that wild west feeling. Person above mention Fistful of Frags I would say that this game is a bit simpler. As far as I remember there were more weapons in the mods and they were pretty nice like flaming arrows and such. Last time I played it though not many people were playing it. |

While I like Age of conan there are many things to keep potential players away as well as things that deter from resubbing. First of all gamers are a vengful bunch with good memories. Everyone remembers the horrible launch and this will never change. When you talk about AoC with someone the conversation WILL steer towards the launch problems. These days although the game runs alot better and lag atleast for me is very rare the game still requires a more powerful PC that other mmos require. Once you are in the game there are a few problems too although some might not view them as such. First of all something that botherd me is that PvP servers are almost pointless. Its a gankfest and beyond that becouse of the low numbers large scale conflicts arent where they should be in a game like this. Another problem is Tortage loved by some hated by many. Having this as the only starting area gets painful for altoholics like me. I can breeze through this section very fast but I should have to do this for the 5th time. Once you get out of Tortage the game gets alot better I think, but it also gets alot harder. In WoW, a game I know, group quest very rarely actually require a group to complete. In AoC if you dont have a 6 person group you can forget about completing these things, especially if there is a boss to kill. This I think is a shock to players who came from easier games. Not only that but since the population is either small or top heavy im still not sure finding groups in Conalls Valley for example can take a very long time. Finally AoC isnt popular becouse even though people know the Conan movies very few actually read the stories and those that have are not automatically gamers so the potential playerbase is alot smaller than in the case of an established GAME universe like Warcraft or Warhammer. |

City of Heroes 50% off on Steam today only.
Paragon City Hall (General) « City of Heroes 6/26/10 6:05:02 PM
So its 7euro for CoX. I think its worth it even if the palyerbase is on the small side and europeans like me have very little choice in servers. Still the game has an expansion incoming so devs still support it. Anyone play CoX? Is it possible to find groups? If not then is the game soloable? |

Who should have the upper hand in MMO game design? Players or developers?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/26/10 1:33:59 AM
In short players dont know shit. To elaborate more casual players dont know what they want, what it takes to implement and hardcore player on top of that dont know jack shit how buisness works and would run any mmo straight no matter what the budget into the ground by making it a convoluted mess of half assed but HARDCORE ideas that 1% of the games population actually enjoys. |

Rift: Planes of Telara: E3 Hands On With Rift
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 6/21/10 10:31:25 AM
The preview says the game plays like a traditional mmo...So the combat is typical ability clicking fare? I was under the impression that this was an action mmo like Tera or Vindictus. |

Alot of the hate stems from one thing. The feeling that it could have been so much better. To me the game seems lazy. Having played Champions Online the similiarity between the two games graphically bothers me. The game looks good dont get me wrong but imo the style does not fit Star Trek. Thats just me nitpicking though. Like I was saying many think they game could have or should have been better and it would be if it were not for Cryptic an mmo mill at this point, seeing as that they have another mmo already in the works. My biggest gripe with STO is that it is not the scope that a game with such source material, should have. Having only one side in the conflict is a complete joke and deprives the game of a meaningul PvP aspect. This shows how lazy Cryptic is. In CO there was also one side and barely no PvP worth mentioning and people complained so the devs have learned nothing in the time between the two games. Going back to the scope of the game it feels tiny, confined. I have never played a space themed game where the UNIVERSE felt so small. Thats a shame becouse once you get into it the space combat is actually quite nice and alot better than the afterthought that are the on foot missions. These feel even less like Star Trek. I dont know maybe its just me and my expectations of something more than another comabt oriented mmo, but to me the game is a disapointment and I understand why some, who are probobly bigger fans of the show than me, would spew hate when talking about the game. |

Which MMORPG has the Worst Community ?(Excluding WoW)
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 6/21/10 7:40:11 AM
Originally posted by negentropy I would agree with AoC. Chat in this game is emberassing....We always throw around the insult of someone being a kid but I think in the case of AoC it might as well be true the chat as far as I have seen it is more about porn and hentai than actual game related stuff. |

DC Universe is going to be Bigger then WoW?
General Discussion « DC Universe 6/18/10 5:03:42 AM
I think the game will last a long time becouse of the steady comic book fanbase but it will be nowehere near WoW numbers. Also I am not sure how different it is from Champions Online, which is not doing as well as people expected prior to release. One thing I am curious about is how DCs character customisation compares to that of CO. |
