Sadly, even if they paid me to play it at this point. I would not. I am sure someone with some real vision will come along and make a good mmorpg.

Ya, I did the Rift Alpha and Beta and quit playing then becasue sadly it was just a WOW clone with nothing new to offer. I got bored fast. I am so sad. :(

Trion's budget is 50 million so they may not have as many resources. I can tell you the game is awesome so far. They have won best booth for gamescom. They are doing PAX on the 3rd. I have no doubt they wil be the next fantasy mmorpg to play once it gets closer to release.

 The Rifts that randomly open up and threathen the worlds stability is one uniqueness. The other seem to have the ability to collect many souls that you can change out to get different abilities. For example a warrior class that can use a beastmaster soul to summon a pet to aid him. These seem to be the two main things. I am sure more will surface as more infomation is released.

You're pretty much right on the money with this.   The Sr. Community Manager is Cindy Bowens from EQ who originally inspired, setup, and ran the EQ Fan Faires as a fan before SOE hired her to do the job.   She's been a great community manager in everything shes touched.    From everything we've read, Trion hasn't skimped on the quality of their staff one bit -- from the community manager to the developers, and even the management team --  all are well known top dogs from games past, and so far at least, it shows.   The videos, the amount of information they've passed out, and the quality of the pre-alpha product have been top notch thus far.    If you're a fantasy fan, this is certainly a game to keep an eye on, thats for sure.

 It is really good to know all this information. I actually remember her from EQ1. They do listen to the community too. Lately they put the new reputation system up for a vote and it was removed from the forums. This is a sign of a good manager.

Looks great to me. With the soul stones his abilities will be a welcome addition to the thief class.

I have been absorbing all the material I can on this mmorpg and it really looks like it will be "the game to play" I am a regular on the forums there: http://forums.riftgame.com/ My board name there is Anasazi. The thing that I love the most about this game so far seems to be the ability to have multi souls and change them whenever you want. They are not worried about balance. The balance you have to find on your own by testing. The just let out the Paladin class too which seems like one heck of a tank in the truest sense of the word.
