Travel in EQ1 wasn't really that slow. The faster traveling (druid and wiz gates) was cooperative, which I think added to the game. With SoW, and gates, travel was pretty speedy, unless you were going to the other side of the world without a player gate. There were plenty of ways to keep travel times down, liking binding near your hunting spots so you wouldn't have long run backs. Even when they added in the pok books, people still had to run a bit. Every now and then there were a few really long treks, if I didn't bother to get a gate, but I had the same kind of treks in WoW. Before they changed it, the trip from darnassus to stormwind probably was about the same going from halas to freeport, if not gfay. For fast travel, I'd like to see player run travel, for greater coop and immersion (druid, wiz), and speed spells like SoW. Mounts are fine, really the same thing as SoW, but I always liked the super fast running speed instead of mounts lol. It was always nice casting SoW on self outside the dungeon and having its benefit for the next 30+ minutes inside, while with a mount, you can't use inside. |

Scarlet Blade a Character might get wiped chance roll
General Discussion « Scarlet Blade 5/03/13 5:23:54 PM
I didn't have a hard time understanding. He said there is a bug in the game where peoples' characters are getting wiped/ deleted. People who have spent money on their character have nothing now, even if the character is remade. Of course spending that much money is ridiculous, but I can understand the outrage being out $3500, especially since it was the company's fault. If they restored the character and what was bought in the store, just an inconvenience, but sounds like they aren't which sucks. |

I liked how daoc did it. Normal cast, decent amount of mana. Don't remember much of a sickness if you got a rez. The greater sickness was if you had to release. Don't want rezzing to be a long chore. What if you had a major battle, killed off the other side, but half your group died. Rezzing those shouldn't take forever. The way some of you are talking, if you try getting those 50 people up, the enemy will probably be back at you before the rezzes are finished lol. Rezzing can be quick, just make it out of combat. That way it is more of a salvage after winning instead of trying to do it to win a fight. Does it really matter how fast or slow or annoying resurections are if the battle is already over and your side won? |

Well can't say we didn't see this one coming...
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 5/01/13 1:05:40 PM
I do see quite a bit UC posts, but there were way more GW2 posts for a longer period of time. Hell, I think I still see more TESO posts about why someone hates something than UC posts, lol.
I also find the comments funny about people saying they would have pledged or will remove pledges because of a few overzealous people wanting the game released. The former probably never would have pledged at all regardless, and the latter, that is just silly, or they never pledged and are just saying that. Think about it. A person won't play a game they are looking forward to because there are some irritating people in it. LOL. Guess those people will never play another mmo ever again. Annoying, immature people are in every game. If you don't like their forum activity, don't read it. |

This won't be DAOC2, it's missing a key piece!
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 5/01/13 12:10:48 PM
I agree that the lack of PVE concerns me. As far as obtaining gear, in daoc it was mostly crafted, and in UC there is suppose to be a robust crafting system. There are also other things to do like housing, inns, the depths, etc besides rvr, so not pure rvr, but definitely the main focus. I've never seen UC as daoc2, just follows in that direction partly, but has a lot of things I would like to play. I believe I will have fun with this game, but unsure of the longevity for me due to the lack of pve. Although near the end of my daoc playing days, I was only in RvR, lol. I guess I just like that option. Well, the game has to get funded first or all this is moot. |

Revenge on Mark Jacobs-Count of MMORPGCrisco Style
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 4/30/13 4:26:13 AM
Originally posted by Fusion As others have stated, such a bs stance. My first mmo, eh, was ok. (meridian 59) 2nd, liked it ok, but didn't play much. (UO) My 3rd, EQ, absolutely loved it. Spent years in that game. Tried AC next, liked it ok Next was DAOC, loved it, tied as favorite all time with EQ. Many MMOs later, a few I enjoyed, played WoW and loved that too for a while., especially vanilla.
SO had 3 MMOs that I had that incredible feeling (more really, just less play time), and able to play for a long time, and none of them were my first. 3,5, and like 30th, lol. Also a few others that I enjoyed greatly that I played for several months+. The lacking part is due to the MMOs actually lacking in many areas! Would love to be able to play one for just 6 months, heck I rarely make it through the first month anymore. I can still go back to EQ and play that months at a time, and I have, but would really like something newer. Also it is a bit different now, but still fun. Daoc, well I just can't deal with the movement anymore. I was still playing until they got rid of classic. Too many changes to put up with detriments of the game. And WoW, while I can still have fun in it. it is not long lasting, just not the same game, was never the same for me after tbc.

They're fine. I see people every day wearing less than these ads. Earlier today, saw a hot pink hair girl walking down the street, showing way more skin than these ads. People are just too prudish.

How long does it take you to know whether an mmorpg is for you?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 4/10/13 5:40:40 PM
I can usually tell within an hour, but often play for 2-3 hours. I then base it on a few things. If I like the combat but am bored in other things, I give it more time. If I am having any kind of fun at all, I will give it more of a chance because things often open up. I rarely quit if the game starts with a tutorial. Tutorials can be bad but the game is great, so I keep playing after that. I've gone back to games that I hoped I would like but didn't and still didn't like them. Some games, I will have fun in them for a while, but they just don't have longevity for me. I never play to get to the end game where the "fun" starts because if I am not having fun on the way, it is just a waste of time. MMORPGs have always been about progression and the journey for me, so games that are suppose to start at the end game just make no sense to me. I'm not against "end games", usually like them, such as in eq and daoc. I just need to enjoy the majority of my time in the game. People that say the real game starts at the end game, well that is just their type of playstyle. I've played games that people have said that and enjoyed leveling through the game. |

$5000 Personal Island Tier. Would you?
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 3/28/13 4:35:17 AM
I wouldn't, and not because of lack of money. Mostly because I find the concept of the game to be incomplete. I think it will be fun, but it is sort of coming off as a daoc lite. Less classes (to start), no pve, just doesn't click for me. Now if it had everything I was looking for, probably still wouldn't. I have better uses for my money, like traveling. Would still toss a few hundred at it, but that would be if it was more than what it is. Currently, I am leaning towards not contributing at all, but that could change as I get more info. |

Bragging Rights: Leader Board for Support Classes

It was a lose/lose situation, so I just killed the enemy, that way at least I win, hehe. |

Rejoice complainers and whiners....YOU WIN!
General Discussion « Elder Scrolls Online 3/19/13 4:44:26 PM
This sounds like a good compromise. People can explore the other lands without making a new character, but are still seperated from the people of the other lands. I don't see any problem with realm pride, nor issues with the ongoing war. |

Defining the purpose of steath ; the first step (POLL inside)
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 3/19/13 12:44:06 PM
I love stealth classes in games. I like the way daoc did it. I never thought they were too powerful. I chose the ganking option, even though that is a bias phrasing because I want stealthers to be able to materialize out of thin air attacking someone. Often people are in groups, so if an assassin targets someone and kills them, most likely they are going to die. I liked how they couldn't restealth in daoc until out of combat. It seems a lot of people not wanting stealthers in the game are people that always got killed by them. You would think from my support that I was a stealther, but that is not the case. I usually played a caster, which was a prime target of stealthers. I also won a good amount of the time when I got jumped. Probably less than half, maybe 2 out of 5. For a cloth wearer being totally surprised and still winning against a stealther is great. If I were to surprise anyone, even a stealther, with my caster (meaning seeing them before me and attacking), My win rate was near 100%. Also most stealthers couldn't really dominate non casters, so not like they're all powerful. Add in that there will be a lot of grouping, stealth being OPed really loses its luster. That is where the other attributes of stealth come in such as scouting, sieging, etc.
As for the realism thing, there are plenty of novels where assassins have innate or learned magical abilties that turn them invisible, phase them out of sync, bend light around themselves, create an illusion of nothingness or air, or gather shadows to them that creates a distortion that is hard to see. Often it is just a poor explanation of the lore of the assassins in games rather than them being unrealistic. |

There was already a random aspect in mez in daoc, and some not so random. People could resist it. There were also mez reduction, while not random, it was from the point of view of the mezzer. They think they have 30sec, but then person is free in 5 seconds. Don't really think it needs to be more random that that. As long as resists affect the cc, you wont really know how long exactly it wll last or if it will even hit. Sure you can quickly cast it a second time to make sure you hit them, but that 2nd cast that hits the already mezzed people cuts those times in half, so don't really want to chain cast mez on people. |

If you don't like the holy trinity, come up with something better.
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/11/13 7:02:11 PM
Originally posted by nottuned I've said this before. EQ, daoc, there were 4 or 5 roles, then it gets simplified and we have 3, the trinity, then a step further with 2 roles where people can heal themselves or use pots or no tanks etc. Next will be everyone can do everything at the same time. No real reason to group, but if people so, they just smash buttons as fast as they can to do the same thing. Maybe they won't even have to heal themselves, it will just be an automatic heal that goes off every 3 seconds or a constant regen. MMOs are becoming too simplified, making them boring. It is no wonder people don't stay in a game long anymore. |

How important is the overall look of your character in a MMO
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 3/07/13 6:59:09 PM
I voted important. I don't need the best graphics, but if I can't like the look of my character, not going to play it. Usually there is at least 1 race I can find that I will like. It is not just the look either, but sometimes the animations. Battle animations I could ignore because I'm so focused on the fighting, but things like running, walking, have to be good. I remember in daoc, when I was playing some hibs, I wanted a lurikeen. Like the look of them, and being small for the pvp was nice. The male lurikeens running animation were awful! I tried, but could not keep playing them. Females ran just fine, were smaller too so worked out well. |

Tanks and their common ability... Taunt.
General Discussion « Camelot Unchained 3/07/13 12:12:11 PM
I've always liked the guard and intercept abilities in daoc. Tank jumps in front of blow to take the hit or block it. Now if a person is chasing someone who is chasing someone, there are better things to do that forcing them to change target. Tanks usually have disarm. Disarm that person going after your healer, now they can't hit. Make them fumble, or if you're close enough, often there were attacks, especially from behind that had a snare, or a stun from a shield bash. A forced target change is so unnecessary. |

What class in Daoc you like most and why?
Round Table Pub (General) « Dark Age of Camelot 3/06/13 2:11:58 AM
Loved my Spiritmaster. Probably my favorite class all time of any mmo. I just love lifetaps, especially when it is the main type of damage. Had fun with sorcerer for albs, and hibs hmm valewalker was fun and really liked my warden. I liked most of the classes, lol. Th list of what I didn't like is much smaller. Never played animist much, didn't like necro, and hunter was my least favorite of the archers. Oh, and it wasn't my main, but Valk was fun to play because it was just WAY OPed, lol. Kind of nice to feel unstoppable every now and then. |

EQ cost stamina when you jumped. Quite a bit too. Think after like 6 jumps, you were out of stamina. No stamina was bad for fighting, hehe. Forgot exactly how, just knew that for a while, people were need stam recovering spells cast on them just from combat over extended periods of time, so jumping in combat, especially bunny hopping was way out of the question. |

ESO Petition, Make Tamriel Seamless.
General Discussion « Elder Scrolls Online 3/04/13 3:20:37 PM
Even though they're using a megaserver, they probably can add a different server that allows people to zone into other sections. A megaserver doesn't restrict that. Just need another server that is not part of it. I'd like to see 2 alternative servers, 1 for pvp, 1 for only pve, like daoc, just to get the whiners out of the servers that will be populated. As much as people are complaining and clamoring for a server to go anywhere and gank people all day long, those were the least populated servers in daoc. |
