This Article is realy over blowing the effects these idiots are actually cabable of.

 

I recall in DF1.0 they came and made some posts about how they were going to drive people away and all this nonsense.

I never saw them in game or heard of anyone who did and they stopped posting in about two weeks.

 

It seems like that is all they do.  They try and make a forum presence, annoy a few people, get some attention, then they leave.

 

If they stay at it AV will just perma ban them and people like this don't have the money to keep buying accounts and getting banned over and over.

 

They are really nothing and make no impact on anything.

It wasn't worth bringing them up to just give them some attention that they are looking for.

 

Basically, you just brought up a nat that you chased out of your house.....not really worth mentioning..

Mark you probably should not be on here discussing your game, no offense.  You are going to get quoted all over the place :).  Plus, people will read into it.  Myself, when I see a lead dev in a place like this it makes me think the guy is going to be playing the game and picking favorites.

 

Do you guys really want ALL games to do this?

 

Mark (hah funny pun) my words, this will be the new way for investors to test potential game ideas.  The whole new proof of concept (a saying Darkfall's AV likes to toss around).  Plus, free starting capital.

 

 

I don't mind being quoted. Sometimes I say something that I wish I hadn't but that goes with the territory. As far as that quote, it's accurate. I've been giping about what was going to happen in the MMO space for the last 7years to EA, analysts, etc. Sometimes I was listened to, sometimes I was not and when I wasn't and things then went the way I said they would, well, grumpiness ensued. 

As to Kickstarter, the best thing about KS is that it does free game developers to make the game their fans want and not the game the publishers want. Sometimes the publishers can be very smart, sometimes not but at least this way the fans get the game they wanted *if* the developers come through. That's one of the reasons I'm spending so much time talking about the game and not just doing interviews. I want our potential backers to know exactly what game I will make. 

Now, could Kickstarter turn out to be a flash in the pan, yep, if game developers don't come through, it will kill crowd funding for big projects and that would be a real shame. KS has the potential to put more power in the hands of developers and players than ever before. Now we as an industry have to not mess it up. But here's why I'm excited for crowd funding no matter what happens with CU:

Developers can use CF to not only gauge interest but more importantly, use it as leverage for distribution, partnering, licensing etc. deals as well as saying to a publisher "Well, you might want to own the IP but we'll take this game to CF so..." The industry is in a real bad place right now in terms of the balance of power. Publishers have gotten quite demanding (more so than any other time I remember) about IP ownership even when it's a distribution deal (which used to be almost unheard of in the past) and *if* game developers can use KS to create successful games, there will be a shift back to a fairer sharing of ownership (or none).

I'm not saying this to convince anybody to back our game because frankly, I think most people here already made their minds up here. What I am still doing here is just talking to players and getting their feedback for CU. As to what I'm saying about KS, well, watch what happens with it over the next few years. If guys like Obsidian, Chris Roberts, etc. deliver on their games, things will really change for the better for players and developers alike. If developers can't deliver the goods, well, CF will no longer be viable for developers and publishers will hold all the cards. It will be interesting to watch.

 

It seems Devs are trying lots of things these days.  There is not only this but Steam's greenlight is being used as well.  That appears to be AV's (Darkfall) tactic.  They do not appear to be listening well at all to their loyal player base and used the time/money that base paid to develop a game aimed at others.

 

But I have seen that happen to many times to believe a dev team.  I remember Horizon back in the day appeal to people looking for money.

 

EA's Madden dev team slipped out of the official forums and basically took over Operationsports.com.  I don't know what the deal is there but EA basically said what goes on.  Ian Cummings started having some good interactions with the community but almost everything that came out of it was incomplete/bugged and hyped up by a advertising machine.  EA hired one of the community members to help develop the game and here is what he had to say about it:

I personally spent a lot of time trying to get that game to turn around and saw one of my ideas put into the game.  While that was cool one thing doesn't make a game good when overall the fans of the game find SOO many bugs withing the first day it is just amazing to me.  I don't think that game even will turn around until the exclusive deal is over.  I remember when games came out in a pretty good state.  Now it just seems like the goal is to prehype it, over market it, get it out the door with hopes to patch in things that should have been done in before the product was sold.

 

As to those that hold hope in this sort of things well, more power to them I guess.  But I don't beleive any dev team until I am playing a game I enjoy.  People are giving their money away way to freely and that is a large part of the problem I think.  If the games had to be really good to sell then game quality would go up.  So, until people don't give any money until they KNOW a game is great it won't change.  Until then its just get the product out the door and collect the paycheck.

 I agree that it is an obvious money grab.

 

Pretty crappy that developers need to sink that low.

It isn't like they wouldn't be making the game regardless.

 

If you donate to it you are helping make this an industry standard.  ALL inventors of any company making a game like it will require the free money before approving future games.

I would macro too if it wasn't beta. Hell I would probably play the game for the grind as well. But doing it knowing a wipe will come is simply ridiculous. Makes me sorry for the poor souls farming ore every day which is the most boring thing I have ever done in any MMO. They could be having fun, but instead they choose to not have fun in order to have fun later.

for comparison Im currently playing Age of Wushu and it solves most of the grind. Its actually semi fun to farm. For example when you hit ore it takes like 3-4 secs and you get 2-6 a hit. It takes maybe 10 minutes to gather enough to craft with. Furthermore the rare ore locations are sometimes in tricky spots so you have to climb your way up platform style which is cool. 

 

The same amount of mats in DFUW would probably  take an hour of AFK hitting nodes to gather. 

Yeah macroing might be a problem, but its a fixable one. Beta is beta.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not some carebear who never touches pvp. In fact I'm extremely competitive. But, my current objective is just to experience what the game throws at me. I'm not going to gather a lot of resources because of the future wipe.

AV should definately look to solve the macroing problem.

AV never learned from the first game.

 

They never got it right until they were shutting the server down.

 

Then they screwed it up again in this game.

 

If you can't stand the heat get of the kitchen!

 

In other words, if you can't take critisism, meanly put or not, don't put yourself in a position were you are going to recve it.

 

They can simply ignore the poorly written criticism or not read the feedback at all.  But if they don't succeed they are going to be forced to ask people:

 

Why do you dislike my product?

 

If someone is selling a product  and can't take the answers to that question then how can the succeed when they are failing?

I mean think about it: would you rather the game die in a few months? or would you rather it live? with the current ruleset in todays mmorpg market I doubt the game will last long. The so called "hardcore" pvp crowd is so tiny that its not enough to support a game and make it profitable. Removing one rule, will piss off a few of the so called hardcore people (however most of these hardcore people are the types who kill low lvs and run like a chicken from anyone who could fight back). But in return they will get alot more subs, alot more revenue, and the game will life a bit longer. But I'll be honest I don't expect any mmo released recently to last more than 6 months before having to go f2p or die. People are just getting tired of the subscription model, when most of the time they can find the same kind fo gameplay or even better gameplay out there somewhere for free.

I haven't seen or played any FTP worth a damn.  I think the standards of the FTP crowd are pretty low glossed over by thier epic cheapness.

 

Die in three months lol.  I played for three years and the server was still going fine when they shut it down.

LOL.

 

You wouldn't like golf hehe.

 

Paying for some things aren't worth it to some and are to others.  Maybe I should make a post about how I feel Darkfall is worth $15/mo and we can discuss that.

 

BTW, I and many others that played the first game do not want or like the FTP models.  It just doesn't work in game of this type.

For the people that played the game for years with no real updates and paid for it well we have been patient enough.

 

If you are new to AV and Darkfall well you better have a crap ton of patience and be used to reading one thing and another happen. 

 

It was a great game that needed a lot more attention form AV.  They stopped updating the game a long time ago with promises of some big patch that eventually turned into this whole new game.  I am exited and worried at the same time.  But I am sick of excuses packaged in wording making it sound like it is in my best interest.

Aventurine actually have good reason for this delay. Mmorpg.com kids need to learn a thing or two about the game industry and not get all angry when they do not get what they want, when they want.

 

Deciding to do beta after missing TWO announced release dates.

AV should have forseen that and beta been a planned part of the game's development like all other developers?

It sounds more like an excuse to me (add it to the pile) then reality.

AV has poor time management planning skills.

From my perspectice of playing the game for many years this is more likely an excuse for an unfinished product then a legitimate excuse.

AV has given so many excuses for not getting this out the door since I started playing three years ago.  Originally, it was suppose to be the next big patch (they called it an expansion but to me it sounded like what Asheron's Call pumped out every month) to the game added content and balance to the game.

Here we are today and yes they have added, changed, and fixed a more then that original patch

BUT.......

It still isn't finished and I am not happily playing it.

If I had more time I would probably be playing something else right now but RL has me busy so when that slows down if the game is out I will try it.

But if it isn't I am going to try something else that may turn my attention away.

In either case, I am sick of rationalized excuses.

That's why we didn't launch the game today, and it's why we decided to take this opportunity to put it through beta. 

 

Life is incredibly complex with millions of things that can come up last minute.  You need to plan better for those few thousand that may come up with this part of life.  Time Management Skills.

 

Deciding to do beta after missing TWO announced release dates.

 

Shouldn't you have forseen that and beta been a planned part of the game's development like all other developers?

 

It sounds more like an excuse to me (add it to the pile) then reality.

Basically take Darkfall's gameplay/graphics  and combine it with everything else in Asheron's Call and I would be happy.

The thing that drove me away and probably still would (not sure haven't read about it in a long time) was the third-party invasion that took over the game.

 

Decal and its constant annoying updates needed to play and keep up.  Botting all over.  Constant afk macros.  Yada yada you get my point.

 

The other thing was the melee combat was really lacking.

 

If you took this game's lore, content, etc. and combined with Darkfall's gameplay I would never stop playing probably ever with the monthly updates providing third party programs, bottings etc. were not in game.

 

I do have to add that population is another reason as well.

Safe zones are a bad idea.  It will just be abused in creative ways.

 

This is a pvp based game.  For them to try and turn it into a pve based game they may as well give up as the game has little pve content and the little it does haven't isn't that goood in the first place.

 

the towers with some adjustments were a much better option.

 

They could have built of that and tried adding more factional content pvp to go along with the clans based pvp.  Factional pvp seems prefered to pve types imo.

 

If you the pve type you more then likely won't like the game and will leave for any of the better options after not long.

 

As to those asking for a PVE server it just doesn't work.  Very few developers can balance the gameplay for both sides fairly.  Also, the game really have very limited PVE content and there would be basically nothing to do.  The only real content imo is grinding gear and sieges (pvp).  So, unless you just like grinding on mobs what are you looking to do lol.

This is an out right lie.

I haven't heard of anythign like  this.  I have read plenty of really negative posts and haven't seen on post closed/deleted unless it was already being discussed or postings a way to cheat.

 

May I ask which mod or mods did this?
