I picked up Van Helsing based on the interview here and was quite satisfied with the purchase.  Nothing mind blowing but very fun and engaging.  Definitely looking forward to the sequel.

I really wish they would add a class similar to the protection monk GW1.   It doesn't have to be a tank or a healer but simply focused on assisting allies in need and mitigating damage.  There are ways to spec as a more support oriented character in GW2 but you never really succeed in achieving the experience a real support player or healer would like to have.

The problem is as soon as they add any class with a remotely greater focus on support and or healing it will most likely become a "required" class for all group content thereby breaking the game design philosophy of Anet.  The only way around this would be to introduce several of these classes and or add new weapon lines providing some of these skills to the base classes.  One other option might be an epic quest chain to greater specialize your character towards an aspect of combat.  I know Colin Johansen has been actively involved in the discussions on the forums about creating sub classes like a specialization of sorts and it seems quite likely it will happen.  However it confuses me why they would go this route since they scrapped multiclassing from GW1 due to the same balance issues this would appear to bring up.

Such as?

It had crafting, but few people did it and it isnt remembered as a strong crafting system (though I loved that it was a status thing to have maxed crafting skills).

My point was just that it had something to do besides pve combat.  Crafting would count as that something.  Pantheon offers nothing except pve combat.  Oh and lets keep slow leveling because old school players like it or maybe because we really can't produce very much content.

Not to mention, Brad has already stated that crafting will be in the game regardless. Whether it gets funded via Stretch Goal or not. If they meet the stretch goal, then they can focus on it sooner. If not, then they'll have to focus on it at a later time when the funding they acquire does make it feasible.

If anyone followed the KS for Dreamfall: Chapters, they'll recall one of the stretch goals being the ability to make a full on, classic 2D adventure game (aside from the main game). Same situation there... If they got the funding during the KS, they would be able to begin initial work on it sooner. If not, then it would have to start at a later time, but they still intend on doing it, regardless.

The purpose of the Pantheon KS (as he's also already explained) is to get the funding to help get the ball rolling, and they are keeping it focused on the core elements of the game. More funding will follow afterward. KS is not the be all, end all for them. It's just to get things moving in a more official capacity, as they've been working out of pocket for the last several months up 'til now.

All this information is out there. It's all been explained already - multiple times in some cases. So it really boggles my mind how people could have done so little research on the project before coming here and making some of the remarks I see people making. I have to wonder if they skim and don't catch all the specific details, if they do read everything but selectively "forget" certain details just so they can pick something to complain about... or if they simply aren't reading anything at all.

Uh...did you not read the interview right here on  He makes it pretty clear that if they don't make it as a stretch goal it will most likely be added as an expansion.  Personally I find the need to have an expansion to add crafting hilarious and even more so considering it will probably cost money.  "hey can you craft me a health pot?" "Nah sorry can't craft don't have the expansion." lulz.

Smed said in the AMA it will be a brand new IP not an existing one.  So no BSG or anything else you already know.

U know they shutdown amazing games all the time..... saying vanguard was a good game is just the hipster thing to do
Idk y this is up for debate it's a fact that f2p makes more money than sub only games anyone who's taken a basic economy course can see why. If u want to believe otherwise it's not even a difference of opinion you're just wrong
Game sounds like it's going to be woefully lacking in features. They vaunted built in downtime to socialize but there are no non combat activities planned. Unless of course u want to buy the crafting expansion post launch.
Isn't LoD being made by Derek Smart?  Yeah I'm good.
Op: "hey guys at work I can post whatever I want to on this forum without any evidence backing up my opinion at all and everyone will just believe it." I'm glad in your brain free to play is dying but its not at all. Nothing to discuss here

Well, they could start by making the PC version of State of Decay something other than an unoptimized, half-assed console port...

Seriously, I've no problem with ports. But when your 'port' is maybe one notch up from Dark Souls (which was by a company which had NEVER developed on PC before, mind you) then you're not in a position to be changing anybody's perception until you get your shit together.

The game runs flawlessly and looks great for me with everything maxed out and i only have a 7950.  Runs great on my laptop with a 760M GTX too.

There's quite a lot of titles for PC.. Steam as mentioned before has over 3,000 titles to choose from, as well as Steam Greenlight which indie devs publish on. There is literally no shortage of PC games, unless you meant PC games you want to play.

I have scoured over the Steam library until I am blue in the face.  Of those 3,000 or so titles it claims to have for the PC, 90% of it is total crap, 8% of it is decent niche stuff and the other 2% are big budget, quality, multi-platform titles.

The Indie games, while some are decent okay, most never make it out of "beta" or "alpha", and even if they do, never make it out of the niche genre.  Besides that, Indie titles have this "it's getting old now" knack for being too preoccupied with the concept of trying to be "art" rather than entertainment with some solid streamlined design.

PC gaming IS dying because PC gamer standards have been lowered past reasonably acceptable.  Our standards have been lowered because the only titles we receive as exclusive are MMO's, and they've been utter garbage for the past 10-12 years.  And this F2P crap is just milking what hope PC gamers have left for some quality gaming experience.

The fact of the matter is - Consoles have better games and more of them.  Period.  I don't care who argues with whatever claim.  One exclusive title like Starcraft 2 every 10 years isn't enough to make me believe that PC gaming is still alive when all we have left to chose from is bullcrap Steam sales of crappy games and older games that were fantastic back in the day when PC gaming was still good.

Too bad PC gaming isn't dying.  All reports are that it's the fastest growing segment of the gaming industry.  Old and bitter much?

Also Dust was never promised to be an MMO, only to have connections through gameplay to an existing one, and definitely is a lobby shooter at its core so while the game is crap I don't understand why it's on the list.

Because CCP claimed it is massively multiplayer  ?  what do you see there ?

DUST 514® – a massively multiplayer shooter

I dont get the logic that these people use to defend CCP  , and this is another while CCP says it massively multiplayer . Blame CCP  .

Idc what the site says it's not an MMO by any stretch of the imagination.  Defiance I'd consider and MMO shooter. Dust 514 doesn't have any persistence whatsoever outside of equipment and levels.  It would be like if this site had Warframe listed as an MMO.

Its sad that so many are still on the fence about this or better yet continue to throw hate

Bottom line is this is about the big picture people. We need this game to succeed, why? Because it lets the publishers know that our audience who wants these type of games still exist.

If this game fails at the Kickstarter level be prepared to see

More console exclusive mmos

More shallow rush to endgame who gives a damn about the journey casual easy mode garbage

MMO's (can't call them rpgs) have become shallow shadows upon themselves. The most prevalent gamer in these games nowadays are anti socials who are just content with seeing people around them, grouping up with them in PUGs and hardly saying a word.

Even the roleplayers are Anti Social! WTF is that?

So go ahead, sit on the fence, wait till its finished, and if the game does not get its funding and some publisher says "well hey you guys had the chance to support that game to show us that you are worthy to make games for, but you didn't, so obviously you are all talk and no action"

You will not be able to respond to them with anything but a "Well yeah you are right"

Stop talking and start doing twenty dollars is not going to bankrupt you!

Take my word for it, these niche mmorpgs are going to be the future of mmoRPGS on the PC!

But go right ahead and do nothing, wish, hope, dance, pray, chant that someone else will make this type of game and it will be succesful

But know that you have no right to say a word when publishers continue to give us fast food mmorpgs, because you didn't do anything to support the real mmo's.

This game represents the bigger picture, why is it so hard to see?

I really don't see any particularly unique features.  What am I missing?

Oh god I am so excited.  State of Decay is such a good game and runs so well on PC.  Best game I ever paid for Early Access on Steam. Wish they could've got multiplayer working in the current game because it would have been awesome.  Can't see what their multiplayer efforts turn out in the future after releasing such a high quality first title.

glad to hear your review.

i hesitated because at the time- they didnt have a mouse/keypad  control. did they ever get one applied to the game?

i may try it out.

Yes they corrected this issue even though personally I prefer to play the game with a controller.  This was only an issue while still in Early Access cause they converted from the console version to PC.

Brad lost his team and then the game was rushed out before it was 100%..

Don't be so quick to put everything on one person.. he seemed to do ok with EQ1 (and VG) before the big company came in, and that is what hes trying to recreate here.

What? That's not what happened at all.  That's only what Brad said to shift all the blame from him.  There's a reason it sounds like the exact same story every shill tells when they release a crap game.  "I didn't do it. Publishers fault."

Yeah, optimization was bad, but if he can deliver a game as 'crappy' as Vanguard, I will be happy.

To each their own. If that's what you enjoy I hope you get that and more. I'm not hoping for the project to fail.  I just don't have much faith that it will succeed.

That is fair.  I had a brand new computer when VG came out, so even before optimization, I didn't get hit super hard, the lag while panning is mostly what got me.  So I may be more jaded at the optimization, if it affected me more, but I loved VG's harvesting/crafting/diplomacy stuff, to go along with what I felt was a great pve/class system.  I also played on the pvp sever(s), so I had that to do.

My top mmos are EQ, UO, DAoC, VG, and SWG (pre-cu/nge, and I admit it needed fixed, but not changed).

I liked TSW, but ran out of content, may go back and do some of their newer content, but I haven't enjoyed a mmo besides TSW since VG.  They feel like shallow lobby mmos to me for the most part, with tacked on crafting/harvesting.  I know a lot of people do, and they should all have their game.

So that's why I say, if I can get another game I liked nearly as much as VG, and hopefully things go decently well this time at launch to give the game a chance.  Too many people were put off from VG's launch and it doomed it.

We all have our dream games and if this is what you think is your best shot at getting yours I say go for it.  Maybe I'm just too cynical, jaded, and pessimistic.  Although I like to view it as realistic lol

I am just stuck in my ways, I personally dislike f2p.  I like everyone being on even footing, not buying stuff that is more than cosmetic, even xp potions.  I know many do not feel this way, but I don't like the idea of it.

Some of the f2p models I have seen make me feel like the cash shop is a money black hole.

P2P games have a fault in this though, they started dipping into the cash shops, even when they had subs, I can live with it, if it is cosmetic only, not a fan, but I can live with it.

Also, they needed to be more transparent, and have free trials at least with-in 1-2 weeks of launch.  I can see holding off for a week or 2, but they usually don't for months (use to never have them).

So, I would like to see p2p, free trials at or near start of game for people to know if they like it (we kind of have this now with these open betas, I have been able to get into any of them I wanted to at some point), no cash shop (true cosmetic only if it is a must, but prefer none).

I want my game making money though, they should, but I would like a commitment that 'x' percentage or a good amount is going back into the game development and new content.  I don't want to play a game that is stagnant and nothing is added.  I generally only play 1 mmo at a time, 2 here and there, so paying the sub for them has never been a big hit, unlike if say I played 6-8 or something with subs (been thinking of doing the new $15 SoE pass though, while I wait on something new to play).

Whatever works for you.  No one can say F2P is the BETTER model for EVERY game out there.  B2P, F2P, and sub based games can all function in the same economy.  Whatever model they decide on they should try to caputre as many consumers as possible and design their game to function and be profitable within that given model.  For me I don't like sub games so a sub game will never get any of my dollars. For you, and others, you say you'll only play a sub game so F2P can never capture your dollars. No company wants to see any of those dollars go to waste (lol) so I'm sure they will continue to provide options like freemium at the very least and most likely some sub games going forward.  Ex: Camelot Unchained - focused on small pvp player base that generally prefers subs for the even footing reasons you list not focused on capturing a billion subs.

You do realize you've basically described every single MMO on the planet with tab target combat right?  But somehow this one needs to do everything your way or else your going to be an asshole to everyone in game and on the forums while you bot and actively destroy the ingame economy by the same means you complain about?  Sounds really good when someone lays it all out like that and it looks like only one poster in this whole thread would disagree. If everyeone's saying the same thing, well....
