Am I missing something? Or did I not read one negative/con in the entire post?

I am just posting my impressions from Korean beta as Devilian is virtually unknown to the vast majority of players in the west.

I think people want to know what the hell Devilian is  - hell I still didn't understand a lot of the underlying systems due to my poor Korean skills, but I posted what I remembet from beta.

What is there to miss? Are people not allowed to talk about betas they played?

I know you abhor Trion - that's yoir own agenda, I am not talking abut Trion here I am talking Devilian in Korea.

Again, not completely true on the "limited" run for free statement.  I have taken a buddy of mine through a chapter of the LS so that he didn't have to pay for it.  I can take you tomorrow.  It only becomes part of  revenue stream if the consumer chooses it for convenience sake.  And whether we like it or not, it isn't up to us to determine what others are willing to contribute to the cash shop for the convenience of not farming for gold or having a friend.

I agree with you if a purchase is required to obtain the content.   But when a developer provides multiple avenues to obtaining missed content, we as players should be encouraging it.   Again, I like your argument but I believe you are stretching it in its application here.  For your box price, you can experience the LS content that you missed without paying for it.  You can argue the ways to obtain it, but you have a choice whether to contribute to the cash shop or not and still get the content.

I guess I should have worded it that it is disingenuous not mention all options in your argument.

People do not want options or they ignore it all together. They see a price tag on it and it suddenly becomes an issue.

Who said anything about  them charging for it being an issue? I also didn't ignore it, that point came with the original post by MadOtak. which I responded to,  Let me put it as plainly as possible, you can't argue something is free, while a company makes a dime off someone for it. No matter how you slice it or the options available, they're still making money off of it. WHich means you can't turn around and say, that's part of the box fee...How hard is that to understand?

I see what you did there. Let me slide it back in so you can better understand I quoted SteeJanz.

LS = Living Story.

People were shitting bricks over having to pay to unlock living story episodes. Rather than taking the advise many have suggested they focused on the price tag and nothing else.

The gender lock issue is strange as the two most similar games Marvel Heroes and Path of Exile also have gender locked classes. And those two games are western, not Korean

Marvel Heroes gets a pass because its based on established super heroes but you can still change the gender of some of the heroes like Black Panther, Loki, Ms Marvel and Hawkeye with costumes.

Sadly there is a pay wall for unlocking those genders.

It's a f2p game.  I mean come on, if you enjoy the game shouldn't you support it, Mr. GW2 Superfan?  You're not...entitled...to free costumes.

People do not want options or they ignore it all together. They see a price tag on it and it suddenly becomes an issue.

Why do even stop there?

I mean I have only played for 6 days total. I spread the love where I can. No, I am not a fan about obvious pay walls like SWTOR paying to "Hide your fucking Helm." Marvel Heroes lacks customization and I didn't want to run around looking like everyone else.

Anything else you want to quote me on while you are at it?

Meh.  I'm much more interested in Lineage Eternal, if that game ever comes out.

You're not limited too this. I am looking forward to Lineage Eternal myself, but until then I'll be checking this out.

Whether its a fair price is irrelevant with the expansion your not just buying the base things your also buying the immense amount of living world that will follow all next year, which will be loads of content period.

That would only be a fair point if they do not monetize the LS like they have in the past. Once they do it's no longer a free content update, it's paid DLC., which shouldn't be factored into such arguments. As it places said content outside the binds of the box fee.

Your argument is a little disingenuous isn't it.  It kind of changes when you add other facts, that it actually was offered for free by merely logging in anytime during the LS chapter.  You got it whether you played it or not.  Those that didn't log in or couldn't can obtain it with in-game gold without spending any RL money or can group with someone that has the LS content and play it for free.

While you have a point, it seems a pretty big stretch to apply here since this is nowhere close to traditional DLC.

I don't see how simply saying once they start charging for it, it's no longer to be considered part of the box fee, is disingenuous. I'd say it's being disingenuous to ignore it becoming a revenue stream.

It's limited run content that has a window of free time, once that window is over it becomes part of their every day revenue (ie the cash shop).

For me downscaling is the worst feature period. It's the reason why I dont play GW2. Being forced to scale down simply by entering a lower level area - ugh no thanks. Make it optional - forcing me to be weaker, yeah I'll pass.

I do not understand how it makes you weaker. You scale from 80 to 20 in a zone 20-25 and fluctuates as you move in and out of areas throughout the map. You are not weaker than any mob or difficult for you to kill if you were actually at level 20.

If you are just talking about being level 80 and just face rolling level 20 mobs. What’s the point in that?

Absolutely I should be able to faceroll lowrer levle mobs.

What's the point of levels really?

If you have a level based game with level progression - max level is superior to loser levels and should absolutely wtfpwn noob mobs.

I can't tell you how awesome the feeling was when I hit 100 in EQ1 and could faceroll content that was super hard for me even at level 90.

Or pulling an entire zone of 200+ mobs and just killing them all in a matter of minutes.

It gives you a sense of your levels meaning something, your character actually being powerful.

in GW2 a level 80 feels week even vs level 5s because of downscaling.

I understand some like this - I hate it.

The OP is talking about the new downscaling changes. It would have been better if the OP title and post had mentioned changes a little clearer when asking the question.

Whether you like downscaling or the downscaling changes are two different beasts. Personally I like both. I like downscaling or automatic level scaling.

Level 80 characters can faceroll in level 5 zones, just nite quite so easily now. That's what this change is about.

I would also like upscaling but with the idea that an upscaled character is going to be underpowered for that level, but people could band together for safety and efficiency.

Didn't CoH have this feature?  could have sworn they did, it was such a long time ago.

Its just so unrealistic, but par for the course in modern MMOs.  As far as I'm concerned, you are either of a certain strength and level, or you aren't.  The idea of magically becoming weaker or stronger based on where in the world you are is a huge immersion breaker.

Realistic to what exactly? I must be living under a rock.

If you want immersion in GW2 there is a lot of it. play a Celestial Eng build.

If you like the game, want to support the dev and want to see the new content first and 50$ is a no brainer for you - bend over and take it like the unappreciated consumer you are.

If the price seem too high, wait until christmas, I bet there would be a sale then. No need to cry about it and trying to make a thing out of the fact that you are having to pay twice for the base game instead of paying for the expansion like is normally done.

I rewrote that for you and filled in the lines to make sense of what you are actually trying to say. In all honest I don't understand where consumers like you come from. Could you explain to us more about your gaming habits, income and what you do in your spare time? I would really like to understand consumers like you.....cause I don't.

I work as a PR consultant, my boyfriend is a programmer. We are gaming on most of our free time. We've both clocked over 2000 hours in Guild Wars 2 and various other titles. 50$ is not an issue to our household in the slightest.

We also don't live in a basement as other gamer brethren, trying to tell me how fucked up we are for paying 50$.

You know, there are restaurants where dinner for 2 costs more than that.

What you have to understand is that some are willing to pay a lot more than others for entertainment. That is why you have a multi million dollar cars. That's not their real value.

Besides we can talk all week but the fact remain is that value is in the eye of the beholder. With the vet perks 50$ is worth it in my eyes. If it is too much for you, move along, plenty of games in the world.

Or you know ... get a better job.

Zero people in this thread have argued that they can't afford the expansion. What they are saying is that it does not contain $50 worth of content. So instead of lording how much money you have over other people and telling them to get jobs, how about actually reading their posts first.

To prove my point, I have masters degree and a full time job at one of the highest ranked hospitals in the country. I share my costs with my gf who I live with. I had a family member pass away recently who was extremely wealthy. I have more money atm than i know what to do with. I love GW2. Guess how many copies of the expansion I'm buying? Zero. Why? Because it's literally a joke how little content it contains.

Guess what I did do? Buy FFXIV + Expansion and a 6 month sub. Wait! You might say. That's more than GW2 + Expansion 2x over. True story. However, I actually think I'm getting my money's worth in comparison to the offerings from ANet.

TLDR - we've all got the money. The question is: what's the value of the expansion to you? For me it's not $50 that's for sure.

Thank you both! 2 different consumers with 2 different values.

I'm not rich or poor, I know I do not come close making what you and Leon1e make. But telling folks to get a better job I find insulting... looking@Leon1e.

I do Purchasing/IT for small local business sacrificing pay to see a small business blossom.

  • Planing a Wedding
  • Child Support
  • Fiancee laid off for almost 6 months
  • Lawyer fees
This all adds up. I do not have a need for things like most folks. MMOs are my entertainment. Just as much as dinning out or cooking at home with quality food.

Yes, I know what it's like to enjoy an overpriced Big Mac or enjoying $10-$15 sandwich or burger. Even just to head over to a 7 Eleven and grab a couple Torenados. Many of us see

Value over time, they delivered and entertained me for 3 yrs. Looking forward to another 3 I drop $50.

FFXIV has always felt restrictive and zones too small. No exploration. Are the maps bigger in the new expansion?

Auto Scaling like GW2

No. Hell no. That is the single most feature why I can't stand GW2.

+1. Either have levels or, bite the bullet, and don't have traditional levels. The half-arsed crap in GW2 is a horrible "solution".

In GW2 when you scale down to a zone your are still OP.

I know, but to me level scaling just makes traditional levels largely redundant.

I get the feeling with GW2 that the early concept may have included advancement other than traditional levels (small incremental improvements perhaps plus all the caps and achievements as per GW1), the game seems designed that way (and remember that the majority of GW1 expansions were played at level cap); but at some point someone got cold feet and traditional levels were incorporated to create a time lock against entering certain parts of the map.

The traditional levels in GW2 feel unnecessary; and like I say, redundant due to the scaling mechanic other than to lock off higher zones.

I may be wrong on this, but it is the sense I got playing the game.

But like I say, if you are going to arbitrarily scale one's level to match a zone then just get rid of the huge stat hikes of traditional levels, have small incremental improvements, capping, achievements and maybe quest paths to unlock areas if you want to create a timesink.

Or have levels and allow people to keep the dam level they have played to.

I understand what you are saying.

By not adding the traditional leveling you will have empty zones and players skipping content all together.

There is also nothing traditional about the level system at the same time. It's not like the option for skipping content is not there. You can just gather, craft, revive, and explore your way to level 80. You and I are given the same options.

This is could be a complete waste of time for you. But not for some of us.

Zones do not feel empty especially revisiting them for Group Events or World Bosses.

Zones in this game are very much alive compared to many other MMO's even with Mega Servers.

Auto Scaling like GW2

I gave this game another try and I really do enjoy it.

Pugging is easy, but found Grouping is very disorganized. It's really tough on the healer and Tank when so many go off and do there own thing.

Before you tell me or any others that you should join a League, no one should have to do that.

This makes me miss CoH very much.

They're asking for $50 and a cash shop. Anyone remember Guild Wars 1 + Factions, Night fall and Eye of the North? Everything was in the game, aka stylish armor, weapon skins and even accessories. Now all that is in the cash shop. Want glasses? See cash shop. Even if you can buy cash shop items with gold, that is a massive grind (For something that should have been in game).

Simply put:

Guild Wars 2 B2P no Sub - $50 purchase For 3yrs with OPTIONAL cash shop

Heart of thorns B2P no Sub- $50 purchase For the next 3yrs with OPTIONAL cash shop

F2P games   - $0 purchase with cash shop

  • Champion Online F2P with Subscription and Cash Shop options
  • ESO B2P with Subscription and Cash Shop options
  • Rift F2P with Subscription and Cash Shop options
  • Tera F2P with Subscription and Cash Shop options
  • SWTOR F2P with Subscription and Cash Shop options
  • EQ2 F2P with Subscription and Cash Shop options
  • DCOU F2P with Subscription and Cash Shop options
  • AOC F2P with Subscription and Cash Shop options
  • TSW F2P with Subscription and Cash Shop options

I question how much content is in Heart of thorns, and how much was taken out to be in the cash shop.

There are still people saying the core game comes "Free". No it does not. You need to buy HoT to get it. It is factored into the $50 which is the point of the whole argument. A expansion only copy would obviously cost less and yes it would be in your best interest to get a expansion only copy if you already own the core game.

You didn't even try.

What I'm getting out of his example is that GW2 should also have an optional subscription model and a more vigorous cash shop. Maybe then you guys wouldn't have to wait so long for what many here seem to think is a substandard expansion.

Many? You have statistics?

Or are just like some of folks on these boards who like toss out numbers? This is fairly common here.

Dear Op,

Don't buy it then. There is no SUB, it's a fair price for free content there-on-after.

End

There is cash shop. Also, if you didn't log in for Living story season 2, you had to pay 200 gems for it or something like 800 for the whole set. How do we know they're not going to pull that again?

To the "Freerers", just because a marketing team labels something as "Free", doesn't make it so. Do you get to play Guild Wars if you pay $0? Of course not, you have to buy HoT.

So, how many people claiming it's "Free" actually own Guild Wars 2 already anyways? It's a slap in the face of the millions of people who already own the game. Yes, it makes good business sense to bundle it if you want to attract new players, but for their existing customer base, they should have offered it as less for just the expansion. Both you and I know that the cost of the core game is factored into the $50. For the $50 price point, what do they offer to the people who left Guild Wars 2?

The only true free games are the F2P where yes, we've paid $0 to play. In Guild Wars 2, you paid $50 to have a inventory bag slot locked, legalized RMT, "Convenience" locked away on purpose and most all the good looking armors and weapons in the cash shop.

P.S

Guild halls were a feature that were supposed to be released with Guild Wars 2's original release. Then they said they were releasing it later. Now it's a main feature of HoT. I'm curious if some guild halls are going to be cash shop only.

If you even played the game you would know all you had to do was FARM the FUCKING GOLD exchange it for GEMS.

You also have the OPTION to join friend who has the Living Story unlock and then it would be unlock for you.

Plenty of folks made these suggestions[mod edit]

Exactly. The entire game should be free since it is virtual.

Looks like you want to play the entitled game some more.

Go ahead - I didn't care before and I won't start caring now that things happened just the way I expected.

He never pulled that card once!

You were the one UP & ARMS about Vets not getting anything in return. Now that you got it will never stop there.

You move on to "$50 Expac not Waranted!"

Gosh i hope you are not like this when you go to Starbucks. Then again Starbucks will give anything away to anyone who cries the loudest.

You want charts and graphs?

For what end? This isn't a B2P vs P2P matter, why you insist on making it so I have no idea. The payment model really has no standing on the value when it comes to what comes in a box, does that mean I should automatically run out and pre-order Knights of the Fallen Empire because TOR is F2P? Which would be the best value would it not? No sub fee, no Box fee for the base game, just the price of the expansion. or the price of a sub....

Value over time for another 3yrs.

I just got done purchasing HoT. See you around in the next thread.
