Wildstar did this, and people did nothing but bitch and moan.

Attunement that takes more than a day? WAHHH

Bosses that take 19 other people not sucking dick for 3 minutes? WAHHH

Actually needing a guild and not being able to pug raid content? WAHHH

All the "hardcore" players who clamoured for a hardcore game got just that, then realized that deep down, they were casual carebears who couldn't hack it in a game that was actually difficult. People don't want a hardcore PVE MMO, they want to have their hands held every step of the way.

QFT

and for the nimrods using the baseless time spent =/= skill argument, here's a little factoid: IF YOU DON'T SUCK ASS YOU DONT HAVE TO SPEND THAT MUCH TIME

Wildstar also happens to be ACTION COMBAT...

NOT TRADITIONAL COMBAT...

So yeah, Wildstar really shows anything

Being pro-active and re-active is pretty hard for some folks!

It has shown how unaware folks can be in Wildstar!

Critical thinking and multitasking is not for everyone!

Hey guys, I'm an app developer for iphones and androids, and also an avid mmorpg player. I thought of an app idea that I want to start working on, but I wanted your opinions before making it to get a general idea of what other gamers think of it.

Basically, it's a phone app that helps you make friends in any game you're playing by matching you with people (kind of like Tinder but for making friends) based on similarity in interests, time zone, level of your character, etc.

I'm hoping it will solve the problem that many MMOs today have, where you enter the game and feel like there's people running around but nobody stops to talk and party together, and you just run through one quest to another.

Anyway, any input is appreciated! I want to do this project but I know it'll only be successful if a large number of people use the app, so I made a poll:

Please don't be discourage by the NOs! There is nothing wrong with providing folks with more options. I think it's a great idea. I personally wouldn't use it.

Frankly is this really something that should be inbedded in the games instead, a recruitment and friendfinder is sorely lacking in most MMOs today. I think EQ2 was the last game I played that had some kind of mechanics for guilds to advertise and I don't think I ever seen one for friends.

Making the app might be a good idea though (if nothing else then becuase if it became popular most games would add the feature).

I wont use it though, mostly becuase I hate smartphones.

........you get my drift.

No I don't actually...yer saying (I think)  A list of apps/mods already in use? That I would never use either....

Acting like the mods are better than the app mentioned makes no sense. The app at least are gaming wide and not limited to one MMO.

Unconfuse me...please...

I'm sorry does every game have a MOD? OP wasn't talking about creating a MOD! He suggesting an APP!

I never said that MODS would be better than an APP!

I did how ever encourage him/her to create more OPTIONS!

See up there, I even highlighted green bold bigger text for you! Less confusing, unless you need a MOD that flashes big neon lights telling you so.

I'm suggesting an APP with a list of games for multiple platforms!

Is there a MOD or APP that caters to more than one game or multiple with various playstyles?

I voted no because I believe the design flaw in modern games needs to be addressed in game.  Its not something that can or should be rectified externally or it will only further enable a flawed design.

What flaw design is that?

Based on some of the few responses it's pretty clear people make their own decision for themselves to SOLO or PARTICIPATE and in engaging in a social MMO environment.

Examples have been given in past Threads how we all have the same options to socialize with others in the virtual world.

One of the most common feature in any MMO is a Chat Window!

Do developers need to include a FaceTime, Skype, or ooVoo feature?

You're wrong on so many levels, people moaned about wildstar because it was a failure not because it was way out of our league.  Time consumption =/= skill.   Amount of players required to raid on the same schedule =/= skill.  Forced grouping =/= Skill.

It wasn't WIldstar's failure!

It was the players:

Who can't put I the time or effort in the game!

40man raids have been done in the past some of us actually enjoyed them!

Not WIldstar's fault if folks can't move out of Telegraphs! Seriously! People have cried that there isn't enough FLASHING ICONS telling you to move! And you have Telegraphs to tell you other wise!

They introduced PROTOGAMES to seriously hold peoples fucking hands!

MOVE! INTERRUPT! And folks still have a hard time! Awareness in any MMO is key and still many struggle with this.

Forcing Grouping....oh geez.....then the debate will go sideways to not having enough group content. This is never ending.

The population is decreasing?  That's news to me.  Since everything we've seen is indicating an upswing in population.  But you wouldn't know anything about that.

Kaladin, to be fair WildStar only has two servers now. I'm pretty sure that fact alone is a death sentence. I like the game and would definitely play it if more people played...I just don't see it happening.

It's not teeming with players.  You are right about that.  But there seems to be enough to be heavily involved with whatever facet of the game suits your tastes.  So, if you like the game, however you want to play it, you shouldn't have any problems doing so.  Unless you can only play on non-peak hours.

Until they drop the servers, or stop developing playable content, I'll be playing Wildstar.

Kaladin, you are unknowingly displaying a classic case of fanboyism.  In this thread, no one is attacking your game.  No one is screaming to have the game shut down.  No one is saying the game sucks.  No one is telling you to stop playing your game.  Everyone is simply talking about the sad state of the game and how it can be improved.  You, on the other hand, are getting defensive and defending a game that is going nowhere but down.  You are claiming the game is on the upswing, yet there is no proof of that whatsoever.  There is, however, plenty of proof pointing toward a declining and unhealthy population which is a death knell for an MMORPG.

Why are you threatened by my suggestions?  All it would do is add content in the form of 5 and 3 man dungeons and allow for the best gear rewards to be achievable in more equally challenging ways.  Heck. you can even keep the raids in tact though they would be rarely used, and when used it would only be by the odd end guild on very few occassions.  But no, you are digging in and would rather the game go down in flames than make a few changes that can do nothing but help the game.  The best solution you can come up with is "pick the right server and play on peak hours."  Look, the proof is in the pudding, my man. I guarantee you if they do not make changes such as the ones ive described, this game will soon go to F2P and eventually fade away.  It is just not a good game model for today's player demographic.

You can see a healthy new group of players trying out the game. How do I know this? I was one of those stepping playing for about 2 months now. Some of these folks coming in for the first time they find it overwhelming and too much for them. Not understanding their class and some too lazy to read abilities, constantly wanting their hands to be held having to explain each boss fight for them. You even find some who actually pick up the game mechanics.

There is a decent spread of group content Dungeons, Shiphands, Adventures, and Raids. It's not sad the best gear is from Raids only! Not all games or players are created equal. It's not fair right? You actually have to take the time and earn it.

...They are all good solo classes.....games made that way.

This... it's basically a singleplayer game.

And what title isn't unless you take the effort to group?

Ones where the world is broken into instanced static hubs (without day or night cycles) that then send the player into further instanced halls, with NPC companions to fill out the group role?

This was designed by a singleplayer RPG studio to be a singleplayer game with optional COOP. There's no real cohesive social world to it.

That is my point. Almost every single mmorpg can be played as a single player game unless players take the initiative to group with others.

Rare comment on these boards!

Folks are quick to blame the developers because it's their responsibility to help Danny Boy how to socialize.

The list is endless what developers get blamed for.

An online game's culture reflects its game mechanics. If the mechanics discourage socializing, people won't socialize. And the few inherently social people will get tired of beating their heads against a wall and move onto a game that does encourage socializing.

Any game with an active chat offers the ability for an individual to group with anyone else.

Except its usually more profitable and way way easily to solo, so that's what most people will do.

All the developer has done was provide you with options.

You make the informed decision to solo not the developer.

There are games where grouping to farm trash or dungeons can be profitable.

SWTOR

Grouping

You don’t have to explore the galaxy alone. As you gain more experience and complete more missions, you may join or create a group (a maximum of four players) to tackle the more difficult challenges, like Instances and Flashpoints. You may find certain difficult missions easier to complete with one or more players at your side.

I get it, I really do. After all, I'm a massive RPG fan myself, I want these games to be stellar too, but it's truly cringe-worthy knowing people are fooling themselves and reading reviews that are so over-hyped it really gives credence to the notion of, and term: Fanbois.

It's amazing how this genre does this more than any other I know. 'Hey, here's a decent RPG and it's new' always seems to turn into: 'OMFG better than BG/BG2. 10/10 would suck it's co*k again.

Disclaimer: This is a fun game, worth the money (the story is particularly well written, well done). If you're into true RPG's you'll like it.

However, it doesn't add anything to the genre, is riddled with bugs and IS NOT a 10, or even 9 out of 10.

TYVM, goodnight.

What Generation are you talking about?

I think some folks pointed out how EVERY GAME is going to have bugs! I personally was expecting that.

I was not following the game at all and if anything with all the great reviews I read and game play videos leading up to release I was pretty turned off by it.

I didn't even bother BETA testing. I went against it by purchased the game anyways taking a chance of losing out on $50 bucks....oh well! IT'S FUCKING GREAT!

This is in fact subjective!

You make think it's great, meh..., or just garbage! ... na it's FUCKING GREAT!

The weekend is just about to start and many hours are about to be spent on a pretty FUCKING GREAT game!

How is the population of this game? Is it friendly to new players?

There have been quite a few people coming back recently, so the low level zones are doing ok.  The PvP server is still reportedly pretty light on people though.  But the PvE server is doing well.

I re subbed 2 weeks ago to check it out again, and still, queues are absolutely non existent for both PVE and PVP pre cap.

Tank or healer, expect to wait 2-3 hours in queue for a dungeon group, if one even pops. PVP, forget about it completely (according to the official forums, PVP queues barley even pop at lvl cap)....

If you don't mind straight up questing from 1-50, its one of the better themepark leveling experiences.

I  have been leveling slowly both Tank/Healer running leveling 20 dungeons. The queue at that level seems like there is a shortage of Tanks Mon-Fri. On the Weekends it seems a lot better and try my best to use my healer.

Disc is hard for some folks! And Vets get pissed pretty easy, they feel their time is wasted if you can't one shot.

Look at Eve Online one of the most succesfull sandbox mmo's ever created.

Its still going strong today.

I hope one day we get to play an mmo with such depth in a fantasy setting like Eve Online.

Everything destructible, world pvp, zone domination,  building castles and towns, defending sov, attacking or raiding neighbours, become a real pirate or outlaw, after seeing how Archeage did everything wrong what could go wrong i realy lost hope something like Eve Online in a fantasy setting will not be created in my lifetime :(

We are looking at EVE for a lot of our inspiration.

Eve is not a Sandbox.

Honest truth is that the cost of making games has risen exponentially, due almost entirely by the need and want for better and better graphics.

Game makers are forced to suckle the corporate tit to get their vision out there, or now beg the community via crowd funding.

So many people say gaming has gotten worse than it was 10 years ago, 15 years ago, etc.

Do you people even remember the games of that generation?

Yes, but those folks say that those games got ruined. Even then, they jump back into the other wagon saying how great those games where.

If it's new it's not old school enough!

I don't think content gobbling is hardcore, I think that's indicative of someone with way too much time on their hands.

Hardcore is more like what we got from Wildstar, where the available content is challenging/difficult.

Granted, the more difficult it is, the more time you will likely need to invest...but that's because you're overcoming a challenge, not because you are REQUIRED to spend 80 hours clearing an easy mode raid umpteen times to get the dungeon tokens for a piece of gear.

Again, time sink =/= hardcore

The game is so painfully obvious and easy!

What makes this hard is being surround by folks who just don't understand when they are suppose to move out of Telegraphs!  Hands are being held and folks can't even do that right!

Unless you're fucking color blind it doesn't get any easier than that!

Move out of red shit!!!

This isn't a discussion about Subs v. F2P v. B2P...

What I am asking, is for all the F2P AAA MMOs you have tried, which one had the most restrictive set of features for the free player, AND (this is important) the buy-in to unlock those restrictions were the most frustrating? (i.e. either way too expensive, or were in such low or restricted quantities you constantly had to buy another 'stack', etc.)

Also, I listed 10 of the most played AAA F2P MMOs, but I know there are others out there. I also tended to stick closer to the traditional MMO, and shied away from including World of Tanks, Warframe, etc.

So... what say you esteemed MMORPG.com public? Which AAA F2P MMO really sets your teeth on edge?

"That's a VALID OBSERVATION"

You should take the time to educate himself about the games before listing them.

Talk about throwing yourself under the bus!

Most modern mmo's do everything they can to encourage solo leveling to max level, and then once you're maxed out, the only thing to do is group content.  I don't understand this bi-polar approach to game design.

If you want your game to appeal to group & social type players, make it that way all the way through.  If you want it to appeal to soloist... make it the same all the way through.  Don't make your game one thing for the first 60 hours, and then flip it on it's head.

I don't know what game you are playing, but many games offer solo and group content.

Don't blame the developer for a player choosing to solo.

Many of you raising hell if a developer forced grouping in an MMO.

There is never going to be a sweet spot no matter how well a MMO is balanced. For some of you it will never be good enough.

Actually I prefer to group and socialize rather than solo.  So you have me pegged wrong.  I'm also not complaining about there not being a sweet spot between solo & group.  What I am saying is decide what you want to do as a developer, and stick to it.

If you want to make a solo oriented game, do it, and do it well.  If you want your MMO to be focused on grouping and socialization, do it.  But Dev's need to stop this crap of trying to offer something in their game for each camp of player.  It only ends up being a piss poor mish mash of the two.

Completely agree with OP

Poor Mish Mashed of the two?

What games are these?

Please give us examples.

Skyforge will be a great place to meet chics!

Well sandbox is both not clearly defined and very overused term nowadays.

Good example are i.e.  Assasin Creed games which are often casually called sandboxes and there is basically nothing sandboxy about them.

The term sandbox is clearly defined, it's just that people on this site have a tendency to use it to mean whatever they want it to mean, rather than what it actually does.

Well it's not just this forum. It's quite widespread and not only amongst players but also amongst gaming media and video game developers and publishers.

The same way the term INNOVATION is tossed around.

I'm a fan of MMO's and I would enjoy diving into another great concept!

Unlike you I actually enjoy playing MMOs!

If I don't like it I move on!

See how that works?

So what are you talking about ? People have moved on, and left the core player base with a nickel and dime scheme to make up for the poor product that was delivered a t launch ?  II don;t understand your argument since it seesm you are agreeing with me that bad games.. usually die.

Well ok!

I don't mind paying for a game or it's feature!

GW2 was never a poor product!

Not anyone's fault but your own if you don't know get around paid features.
