Yeah, it's pretty obvious that mackdawg is a WoW hating fanboy, shouldn't take him too seriously and the only reason the EQ2 animations look as good as some of them are is because they hired some dude to dance around in a suit that recorded his movements and cost 5 billion dollars per minute. The money they spent on that could have probably have been used to hire 3D modelers and animators that actually have talent and can put effort into the things they make also did I mention all of the hairs in the game look like playdough? I think I forgot that one |

I would love to see huge penalties to griefers, but unfortunately it aint gonna happen. Blizzard has to cater to the kid gankathon crowd because they gank when there isn't anything else to do, and if you took that away they would probably quit |

Originally posted by mackdawg19 what do you mean by 4 basic animations with variations? Also just to reiterate, I think the animations in EQ2 look really nice. Just my beef with them is they use them for every single race, so everyone does everything the same. In WoW, all of the animations were customized for each race and gender combo, as well as idle animations so the characters don't just stand there like dolls. |

yeah, no ****? whose else opinion would it be? The story on the graphics is that they tried to pull off some degree of realism (recall the chainmail paladin bikini in the alpha video) but they overshot by miles and no one could run the game. So they bumped down the models, so now you have these horrible awkward looking faces. My computer can play near max settings, and I'm sorry but no amount of technology can cover up BAD ART. The actual concept art in the game is quite good, it's just that they 3D modeling team they have is one of the worst in the industry. Now when they brought the game over to asia, they hired a team dubbed the SOGA team to make alternate models. The alternate models are more animeish and the asian influence shows. In terms of actual quality, they are much much superior to the older models. Now some people dislike the anime/asian style, and will only play on the older models. It's perfectly fine if you don't like the SOGA models because of the art style, but please don't tell me that you think the old ones are actually well made. That just kills me... From what I see from most environments, the world just simply looks incredibly fake and strangely out of place. Sure there are some nice technology effects like the water and some of the textures, but for the most part the textures look really weird on most objects, and everything feels slapped on with no regard for aesthetic appeal. In terms of models for armor and weapons, there isn't much variety. There's only one robe model, and most of the models are recolored and reused. MOST (not all) MMOs are guilty of this, but EQ2 takes it to a new extreme. I recall from a while back, a level 10 wearing a unremarkable robe that was the same model for the epic high level piece for wizards of whatever. With all the new expansions though, hopefully that's been changed..also from what I've seen from player screenshots, the armor is even more colorfully rainbow happy and mismatched than WoW's...the game that they call for kids because of the color scheme...irony the animations, which are rather quite nice, have no identity or life to them. If you look at WoW's animations, the characters all have several idle animations unique to each race. But they also all have different weapon animations, casting, emotes, etc etc. Also I can't stand how dead and lifeless all the players in EQ2 look, they have no idle animations and all stand in the same stupid pose. All they do is breathe, like dead meat zombies. In the newer screenshots I've seen, some armor and weapons that are looking much nicer. Also the new dark elf area with the WoW inspired wolf mount guards things! also looks nice too, considering the SOGA team made it. Does the SOGA team handle all the 3D stuff now? I wonder..

Naysayers like me are just as sad as the fanboys. It's the two extremes in the same topic, the fhit is gonna hit the shan! |

Thinking about playing...does this game have direction?
Giran (General) « Lineage II 11/29/07 3:36:28 PM
Forgot to mention the player politics, but honestly EVE supports that kind of stuff so much better than L2 ever will. you just have to look past the spaceships and be ready to sacrifice elf boobies |

I got a beta invite. I looked at some screenshots. I'm probably not gonna DL it. they didn't even try there, they just looked at L2 and copied it with slight alterations |

How important are spell effects to an MMO?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/29/07 12:35:36 AM
I put well made models, idle animations, and general combat animations on a much higher level of importance than spell effects. that's probably because I prefer melee usually. although the spell effects in WoW look really quite nice, it's really dissapointing to see the animations never upgraded, especially since the lower level spells look really weak and as lame as hell. although the animations in WoW are some of the best in not just MMOs but in games I've seen, the combat animations need some serious dosage of FLASH. |

When a game is too old to start playing...
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/28/07 9:51:18 PM
I agree that people need to talk more and socialize. It's not like I'm playing these games soley for the game, I'm playing them because I can talk and make friends with other people. Maybe mmo grouping and working together as players needs to be looked at and redone |

I totally agree with you, OP. I honestly don't see why people keep throwing reccomendations for this game with no explanation. The only thing it has going for it is the character customization in these types of game where you have to play so long doing the same exact thing over and over, PLEASE don't have delays in it. That just makes it feel so much longer and crappier. and having to be higher than level 7 to have fun is a sign of a terrible mmo. of course in most games as you progress you get more options and more fun that you unlock, but there has to be that initial satisfaction in the start to hook you to get to the good bits. This game has none, and is pretty much your standard asian MMO except instead of doing everything ragnarok style they're trying WoW style since it's the big daddy in town now also have you ever compared the official site of PW and WoW? Hillarious. Same with the WSAD controls and DOUBLE JUMPING and all the other crap. Except it's all done terribly and comes off as a poor imitation ingame, but only for those factors. It's a asian grindathon at heart it's funny and sad how the fanboy squad always have to use the same copout responses like "if u dunt lyke it dunt play it!!11!!!111" Obviously he isn't now, and being that it's a discussion board he's letting other people know that the game blows and why it does. Of course that pisses of the fanboy squad because they want people to play their bad game which they love probably for bad reasons, and will do anything to deter the naysayers

graphically, the game looks like a poor imitation of lineage 2 |

Originally posted by Bane82 funny you should say that, EQ2 was released within a few days of WoW's release! I wonder what that means.. also, even though BC came out around christmas time, the game still got delayed for like another year from their initial release date. Although blizzard does put an incredible amount of effort to perfect and polish their games, I wouldn't be suprised at all to see the expansion released against WAR. Not like they have anything to worry about anyway... |

although I didn't read everything, I have to say that the person who said that the quests had good storylines to them is a bunch of BS. The quests in this game were cheesy to the max, like most MMOs sorry but metal gear hobbit pie delivery missions are the lamest things I have ever done in a game |
|
|
It probably wouldn't influence blizzard that much, it's common blizzard practice to delay games for months and years until perfection |

Someone named Wow4lyfer saying that warhammer will heavily borrow art elements from WoW despite a screenshot by screenshot comparison, and attempting to talk about proportions as if they know anything about it Yeah, I think I know which forumer to not take seriously anymore, though it would have been hard to take him serious in the first place with a name like that |

Gold Selling: How big and profitable is it really?
The Pub at MMORPG.COM « General Discussion 11/26/07 7:10:19 PM
Phos - That's fine that you enjoy the game that way, some people have fun by trying to complete all of the quest content, and others just like seeing the world, and most do a little of both. I like doing both myself, in fact doing all the quests will pretty much have you explore most parts of the game world. To get to my main point, saying that there's something wrong with the game because you felt you HAD to buy gold is totally wrong. that's the players fault for choosing to grind instead of doing minitasks that pretty much IS grinding but with the benefits of more exp, money, exploration of the game world, equipment, and helpful items. Greenchaos - I agree, but it seems some people just LOVE throwing money away. enough to support an entire industry. |
