I'm in Act IV with my DH and it's a really great class imo and they look really nice. I'm trying to settle on my 2nd class for another playthrough but can't decide between monk and wizard. I really wanted to like WD but it just didn't click for me at early levels -necro plz :( - altho i really like how they look in later levels.

Barb seems so flavorless to me. It seems like a class that every other kid chooses when they first log-in, without even trying anything else because it's "rawr barbar". Altho it was fun when i tried it. Every class is fun in this game, can't choose :(

Peeps, i just yesterday discovered this, when you go to options>gameplay, there are two checkboxes; Advanced Tooltips and Elective Mode, check those boxes people, it will give you more info about your skills and control over how to use/assign those skills.

Expecting good combat -and rightly so- from a game which you'll do tons of combat doesn't automatically put you in "short attention span dudebro" category so i don't know why you labelled hundreds of people like that unjustly. Please stop talking like we are the ones to blame for expecting good combat/animations instead of incompetent devs can't animate a thing for their lives.

How is being critical for bad sound effects shallow for god's sake? Sound is a huge component in creating atmosphere and whoever thinks it's shallow to critique sound effects is an ignorant tool who should go speak with a composer or a sound engineer. Please stop giving these trolls legitimacy.

You talk like it is a mystery why or how the animations and combat feels bad but maybe it's just because you don't wanna say it outright that they did a bad job with it while other devs perfectly nailed the mobile combat thing. The fact that it is ceratinly possible to do it makes their excuse an invalid one so maybe you should take that into consideration when you reference that statement.

"placeholder animations" yeah, we'll just have to see about that. They'll throw in a few more hand waving and say they didn't lie, probably. They didn't say most of it was placeholder, just some. They did show it to the press and we're one month from launch after all.

In the end i hope it will be polished and i will be wrong, honestly, but i don't know, they themselves said it was not possible for them to have both good animations and mobile combat. I hope there'll be a devoted fanbase so it will stay afloat and get frequent updates tho. I really wanted to play it.

EDITOR's NOTE: Since publishing this article, we've heard some feedback from Funcom about our concerns with character creation and the animations.  Director of Communications, Erling Ellingsen, told us that the character creation is indeed very much limited in this beta build, and will be more fully fleshed out in the future with options and the like.  As for animations, Erling explained two things.  One is that there are many animations which are not yet final in this build.  The second part is that because of the team's decision to allow characters to move while casting skills, they had to untie the upper body from the lower body in the animations.  This means there will be times when swinging a sword or using your fist weapons will look odd, but it's the price they've had to pay for allowing players the ability to move while attacking at any time.  Basically, it becomes more difficult to structure animations that always look perfect when the characters can't move during the animations. 

 

Well sorry but no one is saying animations are bad for no reason, people are simply saying it is bad. I for one don't actually care why it sucks or the technicality of it but only that it sucks. I don't care about their technical reasoning and it is not my problem as a customer because there are games out there(mmos too) which has good animations and mobile combat. So either make it so that it is possible for your game too or let it be known that your game has bad animations. Simple as that. Frankly, Mr. Ellingsen shouldn't embarass themselves with such meaningless explanations in my opinion.

And by the way, what about the sounds? Which is a huge component in creating atmosphere which this game is so bragging about, are those sound effects placeholders too? Such horsec**p.

I was very excited for this game and that's why i'm disappointed so much now.

Everyone is saying overlook the animations and sound but come on are you kidding me, this is a game, you interact with it and visuals and sounds are just as important as the gameplay itself. If i can't interact with it properly or without being annoyed, i cannot enjoy the gameplay. No one can tell a gamer to overlook the animations and sound, those are the means we interact with the damn thing itself.

After seeing these god awful animations, dull uninspired art direction(imo) and hearing that god damn shotgun sound over and over again, i'm sure as hell not buying it even if it has brilliant quests/story whatever. This is 2012 people, no game company should hope or expect it's customers to overlook the animations and sounds -that'd be a big LOL- unless it's doing something stylized or not very mainstream.

Besides, giving players walls of textses during the action is not a good way to do a tutorial.

Still can't believe people payed monthly for a subpar single player game with a multiplayer option.  Luckily BW didn't try to charge monthly for Mass Effect (but soon).

Definitely gonna check this out but i wish they did this sooner because if GW2 launches around june, this transition may not reach it's true potential.
