Deeds? A horrible grind? or a reason to do stuff?
General Discussion « Lord of the Rings Online 11/22/10 9:09:33 AM
I hate deeds. Its just grind. However, I have no issue with a getting recognized for doing something unique that you werent even working towards, like eating 1000 lembas gets you a cake eater deed and title. Or maybe falling off a cliff and breaking your bones 1000 times. |

It is F2p as people currently understand that term, which means "no monthly subscription." Perhaps we should call these games microtransaction games, however. Except that lotro is a hybrid technically, part MT, part Sub. BTW, a sub is far cheaper than f2p in this game, if you play more than a few hours a week. |

Rift: Planes of Telara: Hands-On Preview

Originally posted by Shadewalker I agree. Id rather all their effort go into making a PVE game, than some of it going to make a PVP mini game. First, the PVP is never good, and second, the PVE suffers. |

Rift: Planes of Telara: Hands-On Preview
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/17/10 7:41:43 AM
My only complaint is that it sounds like any other game, but with a few changes. So this is progress, but not enough. Match based pvp, elves, respawns, etc. Its all been done and it gets boring. Im looking forward to the dynamic content and freer class system, but Im not sure yet thats enough to overcome the rest which ive seen before. |

Mortal Online: Survivor Guy: Mortal Online Edition Pt. 2
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 11/15/10 10:30:14 AM
Question. Does StarVault actually provide you with a manual in game which gives even a bare minimum "How to play?" My problem in beta was the lack of this. Take the map issue. You dont have to have a hit M for map, or a radar. However, you can make it so you can buy a static map from from vendors or players which show a basic old world type map, or buy pencil and paper in game to draw your own map (then sell it or get it stolen). Or have a built in paper to draw on like Paint so you can make in game notes. These are things which make the game realistic and dont remove the "hardcore" learning curve. They make the fun, not frustrating. Same thing with telling you how to equip something, vs letting you figure it out through trial and error or readin a forum. Basically, my problem with MO from beta at least, and with 'hard' games is you focus to much on learning to play, and not on playing. |

Darkfall: Cutting Down the Tedium

Its a start, but it seems more to be covering up the problem that is the skill system in DF. I would hope they redesign the skill system from the ground up at some point. |

Lord of the Rings Online: Improving the Vault
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/25/10 9:02:31 AM
My biggest problem with the vault (and inv) is stuff is indicated as pictures. I dont know about you but I cant look at a picture of a chunk of rock and tell if its silver or ancient silver. I cant look at 100 items and tell if the background is purple, dark purple, or light purple. It would be helpful to see it like a spreadsheet with a picture icon, then a name, then stat info like levels, etc. |

Fallen Earth: Combat Revamp Arrives on PTS
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/13/10 9:19:07 AM
I read combat revamp and was exicited. Then I read the details and was disspointed. The actual combat system is one of the weaknesses of this game, IMO. But it doesnt look like they are improving the look and feel of it, just the rolls of the dice. |

There really isnt a pvp design like with WAR, Darkfall, or EVE. Its more PVP on a PVE field. No real penalties to dying, no real motivation to PVP. Which is fine if you like that sort of thing. My experience with PVP in AOC was basically non stop zerging in Kesh, getting ganked while fighting a goat, and boring seiges. |

Perpetuum: Open Beta Coming Soon
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/11/10 8:29:30 AM
I played the beta a bit and couldnt really get into it. Its definely inspired by EVE but with robots on the ground. It just didnt feel instantly exciting like I thought a EVE on the ground might be. |

Lord of the Rings Online: Big Numbers Since Conversion
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/08/10 9:13:25 AM
I dont think the f2ps will stay for the long haul, but I think this game has taken the right path with f2p. It started as a AAA MMO, then went f2p, so the game is pretty good. It knows what it is (pve, lore) and sticks to it. And it give you just enough free content to encourage you to pony up. Hopefully by subscribing as turbine points are a ripoff compared to a VIP acct. |

Originally posted by BioNut We arent arguing for perfect, just better. I dont see why its so difficult to code a npc to say, hamstring you, then run away. Or run into cover, or call for backup. Essentially to act like a player would. If this isnt possible then games need to be more pvp focused so you can actually fight real people. Heck, maybe they should hire people to play NPCs. Outsource it to india. Point being dumb AI is not fun. We pay for fun. No fun, no pay. |

Maybe we should just to a Good, Bad, or Average rating. Such that you could easily put say, Mortal Online into one of those categories (bad), and LOTRO into one of those categories (good) and average would of course be WOW. |

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures: Monthly Development Update
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 10/04/10 2:10:07 PM
Originally posted by cyphers Because Im a Funcom customer. I paid them about $100 over the last year or so. I would also like to play the game again if they ever decide to move it in the right direction. The proof that they arent is in the financials. Their large scale MMO segment is down 4mil TUSD from the same period last year. Godslayer will indeed see a bump in revenue from people like me who were hoping it would bring the game back to life, but we wont know how many quit shortly after. But look. I have other games to play. I respect that some people like Conan. But its a fact that its not what it should have been. |
