I hate deeds. Its just grind. However, I have no issue with a getting recognized for doing something unique that you werent even working towards, like eating 1000 lembas gets you a cake eater deed and title. Or maybe falling off a cliff and breaking your bones 1000 times.

It is F2p as people currently understand that term, which means "no monthly subscription." Perhaps we should call these games microtransaction games, however. Except that lotro is a hybrid technically, part MT, part Sub. BTW, a sub is far cheaper than f2p in this game, if you play more than a few hours a week.

Just a thought....Rift is a 2 faction PVE game with PVP elements. I do not think PVP is a primary focus of the game just an added feature; whereas the endgame of DAOC was PVP. I do agree though - 3 faction PVP is the best.

What's even better in a PvE-centric game is the complete absence of PvP (other than consensual duels), that way the core content doesn't get skewed by the complaints of the 10% of the playerbase who want to PvP, and PvP can stay where it belongs -  which is in PvP-centric games.

That will sound harsh, but the fact is that PvP is only done to the satisfaction of regular PvP'ers in games that are purely based around it, and when added as more-or-less an afterthought to games that are based around PvE everyone ends up disappointed.

I'm looking forward to the game enormously, having enormous respect for Scott Hartsman and great confidence in his ability to produce a game that sounds increasingly like what EQ2 should have been rather than the dumbed down and heavily neutered version that we have today.

I agree. Id rather all their effort go into making a PVE game, than some of it going to make a PVP mini game. First, the PVP is never good, and second, the PVE suffers.

My only complaint is that it sounds like any other game, but with a few changes. So this is progress, but not enough. Match based pvp, elves, respawns, etc. Its all been done and it gets boring. Im looking forward to the dynamic content and freer class system, but Im not sure yet thats enough to overcome the rest which ive seen before.

Question. Does StarVault actually provide you with a manual in game which gives even a bare minimum "How to play?" My problem in beta was the lack of this. Take the map issue. You dont have to have a hit M for map, or a radar. However, you can make it so you can buy a static map from from vendors or players which show a basic old world type map, or buy pencil and paper in game to draw your own map (then sell it or get it stolen). Or have a built in paper to draw on like Paint so you can make in game notes. These are things which make the game realistic and dont remove the "hardcore" learning curve. They make the fun, not frustrating. Same thing with telling you how to equip something, vs letting you figure it out through trial and error or readin a forum. Basically, my problem with MO from beta at least, and with 'hard' games is you focus to much on learning to play, and not on playing.

Let me know when they quadruple the Tin spawns. then crafting will be fixed. Tin isn't supposed to be more valuable than Gold

It doesn't seem to be as much of a problem any more really. I mean I'm just starting on probably week 4 of playing lotro and I've gathered enough to make bronze to get me, and 2 other guys, out of the first tier without really feeling hassled. And I have no patience for gathering or crafting, my least favorite thing about mmos really but that's another argument. It could just be my gathering spot which does seem pretty barren compared to the other tin spawns.

Regardless, I suppose I like these changes. I never wanted to farm (literally farming?! nooo!!!) so knowing there will be more fresh taters on the market is a good thing.

4 weeks is a lot of time.

PVP Sounds horrible.

If only playing MO were as fun as reading about it.

Its a start, but it seems more to be covering up the problem that is the skill system in DF. I would hope they redesign the skill system from the ground up at some point.

My biggest problem with the vault (and inv) is stuff is indicated as pictures. I dont know about you but I cant look at a picture of a chunk of rock and tell if its silver or ancient silver. I cant look at 100 items and tell if the background is purple, dark purple, or light purple. It would be helpful to see it like a spreadsheet with a picture icon, then a name, then stat info like levels, etc.

I'm getting tired of these people.

The ones that play a game like Eve or Darkfall or even something like AoC decide its a bad game then try to push it off as a fact for everyone else.

Hell... I dislike Vanguard but i don't go around saying "Sorry dude but its a fact that Vanguard sucks" like some tard. Obviously someone likes it right? if they didnt it wouldnt be running aye?

./rant over.

I agree, as long as you dont include Mortal Online. Its a fact that that is a bad game.

I read combat revamp and was exicited. Then I read the details and was disspointed. The actual combat system is one of the weaknesses of this game, IMO. But it doesnt look like they are improving the look and feel of it, just the rolls of the dice.

Open pvp?

There really isnt a pvp design like with WAR, Darkfall, or EVE. Its more PVP on a PVE field. No real penalties to dying, no real motivation to PVP. Which is fine if you like that sort of thing. My experience with PVP in AOC was basically non stop zerging in Kesh, getting ganked while fighting a goat, and boring seiges.

I played the beta a bit and couldnt really get into it. Its definely inspired by EVE but with robots on the ground. It just didnt feel instantly exciting like I thought a EVE on the ground might be.

I dont think the f2ps will stay for the long haul, but I think this game has taken the right path with f2p. It started as a AAA MMO, then went f2p, so the game is pretty good. It knows what it is (pve, lore) and sticks to it. And it give you just enough free content to encourage you to pony up. Hopefully by subscribing as turbine points are a ripoff compared to a VIP acct.

The reason this feels wierd is you are essentially playing an FPS with MMO AI.  Your mind thinks FPS and is expecting certain things (smartish enemies, etc). Problem is, an MMOFPS with AI as good as, lets say, Halo Reach, is impossible due to network problems.

Maybeit will be possible  in the future when  we stop getting fleeced by service providers....ohh who am I kidding lol.

We arent arguing for perfect, just better. I dont see why its so difficult to code a npc to say, hamstring you, then run away. Or run into cover, or call for backup. Essentially to act like a player would. If this isnt possible then games need to be more pvp focused so you can actually fight real people. Heck, maybe they should hire people to play NPCs. Outsource it to india.

Point being dumb AI is not fun. We pay for fun. No fun, no pay.

I'm not seeing the problem really, as others have started, MOB AI is pretty standard for most MMORPG's except perhaps for the one example given, Darkfall.

This is the problem: apathy. What is the real reason mobs cant be improved in a game where youre supposed to have fun killing them? If Darkfall does it better, why not at least copy darkfall?

I don't know that DF does it better, just a story I heard tell one day.  Again, if I really want to have fun killing challenging things I look for games that have me hunting other human players.

The real goal of FE is advancing  my character in the most efficient manner possible, so challenging AI isn't really what I'm looking for.

Besides, no matter how they try, I'll be able to figure out how to beat any AI encounter, even WOW's huge raids are really just a matter of following the right dance steps unless they randomize it to make wiping on occasion inevitable, which usually just pissed me off, rather than make it more interesting to me.

Fallen Earth is a PVE game though, not a PVP game. So people expect to have fun doing PVE. And this attitude of "so what, all mmos do it" is never going to get anything improved.

Maybe we should just to a Good, Bad, or Average rating. Such that you could easily put say, Mortal Online into one of those categories (bad), and LOTRO into one of those categories (good) and average would of course be WOW.

Well, good luck with that. Look at the financial reports. Conan is losing money.

You must have missed the last financial reports.

Besides, why would you care about financial reports, you don't even play the game? Yet here you are, he was talking about the game and features in it, and you are talking about financial figures. The mind boggles.

Because Im a Funcom customer. I paid them about $100 over the last year or so. I would also like to play the game again if they ever decide to move it in the right direction. The proof that they arent is in the financials. Their large scale MMO segment is down 4mil TUSD from the same period last year. Godslayer will indeed see a bump in revenue from people like me who were hoping it would bring the game back to life, but we wont know how many quit shortly after.

But look. I have other games to play. I respect that some people like Conan. But its a fact that its not what it should have been.
