No, Steve Ballmer want Xbox One to also be the home entertainment box, and that's why social networking and TV are big here. It is a mistake as at launch they aren't going to be able to roll out the TV stuff world wide. If you want a TV box of tricks then things like Apple TV make sense and so do the next generation TiVos which my ISP provides me with. SImply, put, M$ haven't a clue here.
PS4 is the gamers choice of console now, M$ don't have a clear direction anymore and Nintendo just sell toys for the children. |

Bill, about the shameless rip-offs of IP. There is a book by Max Brooks called World War Z.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/World-War-Z-Max-Brooks/dp/0715637037 Maybe DayZ stole a thing or two out of here, e.g. The name and zombie stuff? it was written in 2006 BTW. |

If you don't like their TV aspect to the new console media centre, and most of the world won't be able to use it at launch, then it's crazy to invest in buying it. The media content seems to be where Steve Ballmer and colleagues are coming from on this one, but they are forgetting that while that is all well and good it is a games console, so to have it weaker versus PS4 in terms of GPU will really hurt. PS4 is the gamers choice for next gen console. Nintendo released another Toy for playing Mario and Zelda games and M$ have re-imagined the windows media center PC in console form. |

Yes, People, I will write it here. Microsoft are going to blow it with this console. They are going to lose all the indie and small game developers who will hop on the gamer friendly PS4.
In recent years Microsoft has started to lose it as a software company and this will lose the respect they got from Xbox 360. I will be flying the Japanese console flag happily with a PS4 purchase this year, I don’t need a big ugly Pontiac hooked up to my Smart TV. Definitely unlikely to impress in Europe or Asia, but maybe USA will save Microsoft from oblivion here. |

Well, folks, as we know CPPs cash cow is EVE and at the moment it is a Mac and PC client game. Obviously expanding the game client into other areas is one way for CCP to grow as a software company. However, after Dust 514 and the PSN experience many would have thought a console client might be an idea for EVE. Logical, noes? Well, mmo gaming people the surprise is that our Icelandic software developers are planning for mobile, and Thor Gunnarsson proclaimed... “Ultimately, our strategy is to create bespoke experiences that are tailored to what our fans are using,” and, “Of course, they’re using tablets and smartphones, day-in and day-out. W e want to bring another access point to them, wherever they are.” So there we have it, you will soon be able to play EVE on your iPhone or iPad. Clearly, CCP have purchased iOS development kits and the challenge is only now to port a client, since EVE is a point-and-click game the interface must be changes to allow touch and swipe gestures. Feel free to comment guys on the diversification of EVE game client and can read more at

Neverwinter: Weekend Exploit Repaired

It is always a problem for games with the full-on cash shop like the Neverwinter Astral Diamond Exchange, if the cash shop can in some way be exploited then it will be exploited.

Dust 514 reviews. Has the CCP turkey finally landed?
General Discussion « DUST 514 5/18/13 10:48:04 AM
Well folks, a lot of us have long had major doubts about how good Dust 514 might be, and the reviews in so far seem to suggest we were all right. The game just isn't an epic, in fact it is average at best, e.g.
http://www.destructoid.com/review-dust-514-253697.phtml
Now, as we all know it bolts onto the EVE game as a sort of PS3 shooter expansion. The choice in PS3 was questioned from the start as it is at odds with the EVE platform of PC only. People, why didn't CCP make a console port of EVE? Why not a PC version of Dust at launch.
Finally, it hits in the wake of Planetside 2, which is a good game.
As always everyone. feel free to post your thoughts on Dust. Is it actually a good game, or has the turkey finally landed for CCP.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn: Letter From the Producer #45 Published
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/10/13 2:48:42 PM
I think the exciting thing about XIV ARR is how it plays out on PS3 and probably PS4. Naoki Yoshida has been talking about this quite a bit in the media, and by the looks of it XIV ARR could be the best fantasy console RPG to hit the consoles over next few years. Looks very promising at this stage.

World of Warcraft: Down to Eight Million Subscribers
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/09/13 6:07:44 AM
Well, folks as I predicted some time ago the bubble after the Panda launch has burst now and WoW sub numbers are going down and are at 8 million and dropping fast. I think the business suits who run Blizzard must be worried and they will have to act as the WoW sub number could fall below 5 million by the end of the year. So what can they do? Two things I can think of. One is another large content expansion. They must have this in the pipeline, and could put bodies on the project from other teams to get a product out by the end of this year or early next year, that could keep the cash cow floating for a while longer. The second option is F2P. This wouldn't be so hard for Blizz as some aspects of the game can be F2P, and they have a cosmetic item cash shop already. The full-on cash shop, such as found in GW2, and the F2P model with perhaps an expansion too could change the game for Blizzard and WoW and see it recapture its fading gaming glories. |

[Preview] World of Warcraft: The Solo Scenario System
News & Features Discussion « General Discussion 5/06/13 9:42:00 AM
I think the future for WoW is solo scenarios and group dungeons/small raids, and this sort of demonstrates that the business suits who run Blizzard are headed in that direction. What they have in WoW is a very large levelling game, that then heads into a kinda dull gear treadmill. Solo Scenarios and group dungeons is the way to avoid this and give people a reason to keep playing. WoW has a history of borrowing from other games, and with GW2 and TESO (which is still in beta) being small group and solo play orientated, it is likely that is the direction WoW is headed too now. All they need is another expansion and I will dip my toes into the game again, I played Panda from 1- 90 as a Gnome Mage and it was a blast, but at 90 I stopped as I don't want to play the WoW gear/raid treadmill again. |

500K buks to go and 4 days to get them in. It's doable for city state enterainment, but it needs that end of kickstarter burst. Apparently, David Braben got there by heading onto the internet social networking sites of all type. We will see in just a few days if we do get Camelot unhcained,
