The Chronicles of Spellborn, Asheron's Call 2, Earth & Beyond, Seed, and Ultima X: Odyssey would top my list of games I wish had made it. If I could pick more than 5 I'd through in Tabula Rasa and Auto Assault. Vanguard I'm actually playing with a friend and there are a good number of people playing it seems to me. It's such a huge world. They definitely need to update their quests though. Too many "Go travel for 30 minutes to kill 100 beasts because I want 5 items that are rare drops and only one person in the party can loot it. Then travel 30 minutes back to me so I can send you 30 minutes in another direction to do the same. This time kill 200 things because I really only want you to kill 5 things, but they're rare spawns so you'll need to keep killing things until they spawn." |

Release? No. 24/7 beta? Go for it! It still has issues, but I would happily continue to play it until it is released. I had more fun this weekend and played with more people than I have in a LONG time in MMOs. I wasn't even really looking forward to this game. I assumed I'd buy eventually just because it doesn't have a subscription, but other than that I barely paid attention to any of it until I decided to pre-purchase because I was bored this weekend. I'm hooked! I don't want to play anything else now and I'm having withdrawals! It's been a long road and many games since 1999 with each game losing a bit more of that magic. Plenty of fun because I simply like these games, but it's been a while since I've felt any excitement to play. This game... for some reason it's there again. |

Chronicles of Spellborn - remember that game?
General Discussion « The Chronicles of Spellborn 3/09/12 10:07:06 AM
Yeah I'd agree that it wasn't a totally finished product and it had various technical difficulties it would have to fix. It kind of sucks that games cost so much to develop, produce, maintain, etc. So many games that have failed pre and post release have had some great ideas and simply needed more time and money to come to their full potential. |

Chronicles of Spellborn - remember that game?
General Discussion « The Chronicles of Spellborn 3/09/12 8:49:56 AM
This game was awesome. The combat was unique, incredibly fun if you actually understood it, and ahead of its time. Between the PEP system, skill effectiveness being determined by your stats VS enemy stats, and the revolving skill deck there was a great complexity to combat that you could really take advantage of to great effect if you bothered to open your mind a bit. With so many games now going with the Freemium model it's a shame they shut down this game when they did. I think today's average gamers would finally be able to understand the complexity of the combat system and the lack of a weapon/armor grind (replaced by sigils to augment your equipment instead). I know those were deal breakers for some less experienced gamers and gamers stuck in a rut from older game philosophies. |

I think the meta-game of twinking can be quite fun in itself. I haven't played in forever but I remember spending quite a bit of time trying to get the right items just to let me get into some other items just to let me finally get into some other items. I'm sure for some people that's a hassle and not seen as fun, but to others it's a mini-game of sorts. Also keep in mind you don't HAVE to twink. You can play the game without any appreciable twinking just fine, you just go slower. Back in the beginning lvl 50 people messed around with content close to their level and enjoyed it. You don't need to be doing content a hundred levels above you to enjoy the game. |

NWN was a CORPG, then PW turned it into a MMORPG: what do they mean by that, or is that just marketing talk?

Originally posted by Wicoa My friends and I were in the same boat. We are all long time MMOers and enjoyed the action play of DCUO quite a bit. However, we absolutely hated the UI. No, I'm not saying I want 20 hotbars which is the usual negative response to people saying the UI is poor. It also felt like it really needed to have spent a lot more time in developement, even taking into account all games lately are released too early. I imagine it is better in that department by now though. Or at least I hope it would be. I was hoping that given some time it would improve. From reading this post it kind of sounds like that's not happening too much. |

Oh the potential, if it was free 2 play
General Discussion « Vanguard: Saga of Heroes 7/02/11 7:33:39 AM
I'd definitely play it if it were F2P and I'm positive a few of my friends that loved it would do so as well. However, considering they are killing SWG instead of going F2P... it just doesn't seem likely. You really have to wonder what sort of jackalope is in charge over there. |

Can World of Warcraft be played on commodore 64?
Hardware « General Discussion 6/30/11 6:42:15 PM
Definitely not a Commodore 64. Maybe a Commodore 128 though. That thing has some major power. In the unlikely possibility that it wouldn't work on THAT then I'm afraid you'll have to upgrade to an Amiga 500. I'm pretty sure that'd be overkill for WoW though. Might have to run a CPU killer program to slow it down some. |

I'm one of the unfortunate souls that bought a lifetime sub for the original. I'm excited this is back and have no problem paying a whopping $4. |

heh, I thought it was stating there was a new mage class as well. Got super excited over that news! Still a cool trailer though. Especially the annihilation of the bunny! |

Champions Online: Atari Divests Itself of Cryptic Studios
News Discussion « General Discussion 5/17/11 5:06:51 PM
Not to mention development costs of NWN. I hope they can continue to improve and become profitable. I know it's popular to hate CO and STO but I think they're fun games to play. CO more than STO, but everyone has their preferences. And a NWN MMO could be an awesome thing so it'd be great to see what they can manage to come up with. |

I totally agree. F2P is just misleading and has turned into a dirty word. Maybe "Full Subscription" and "Optional Subscription" (Modular? ) or something along those lines would be more accurate. |

I think the pay model should just be another category. In rating a game shouldn't it boil down to "Is the game fun?", "Is the game visually appealing?", "Is the game stable and mostly free of bugs?", and "Does the game use music and sound in an appealing way?" I think the only thing that needs to be expanded on as far as pay model is if it isn't a straight subscription then what can your money get for you, is money required for a casual player to enjoy themselves, is money required for a hard-core player to enjoy themselves and if so how much? One of the biggest fears many people seem to have about F2P is whether or not you "need" to spend money to be competitive. Then there are those that don't care if they're competitive as long as they can have fun. Those are issues that should be brought up in a review, not whether a game is good or not depending on if it's P2P or F2P. |

I've been hoping something would come out some day to be the next Anarchy Online. Nothing quite like it has come out since. |

Uh... what do you mean you wish you could see names and guild names, not just the faction name? You DO see their names and guild names, not their faction. |

Er, I'm not bored and I've been playing since beta. I'm having a great time with my guild. Sorry that you are bored though! |

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the game, OP. To me it feels like a breath of fresh air. The class customization system, rifts, and invasions don't seem to me like any other game. I have to admit the first 10 levels seemed pretty average, like any other MMO. However, once I got out of the tutorial part of the game and gained another level or two the game just sort of opened up. You start to realize the incredible possibilities of building multiple roles for your character with various souls, and begin to partake in some of the exciting invasions and rifts. I've played every MMO since 1996, and beta tested most of them as well. This is the first time I've felt like a child digging under the Christmas tree to pull out the biggest shiniest present with my name on it. Anyhow, hope you find your shiny present some day. I think I've found mine! I can't wait to get back into the game! |
