General Discussion « Rift 1/25/11 2:15:38 PM
I can confirm that servers are crashing constantly and there is major lag atm. There are huge ques for every server it seems and there are even people like myself who can even que up at all lol. Got this info from another forum after I found out that 2 hours after beta went live I still couldnt connect. Seems a lot of people have problems. Well so much for the praise of Trion by the Rift fans I guess. Not to say its bad or anything, just saying that this was just an incrdedibly stupid move by Trion to begin with. |

1 of the better shooters released in the past few years. However it failed to entertain me as long as the classic battlefield games did. Rush is entertaining and intense, but it gets old after a while. The games sometimes feel more like fragfests and because of the phasing the battlefield is limited in size in contrast to the other BF games which had huge battlefields. The conquest mode falls short compared to conquest in the original BF series imo, mostly because it isn't played with as many players ofcourse. Overall a fun and entertaining game, yet incapable of capturing the essence of the orgininal series. Ofcourse it never tried to, its more like the smaller brother that was mainly targeted at the console audience and the quick CoD gameplay. it does however crush most of the competition and offers a little more depth than the CoD series does these days. A series that was severely raped since CoD4 imo ;). |

WoW's endgame is the very thing I dislike about it
General Discussion « World of Warcraft 1/16/11 3:22:25 AM
As most people know WoW is praised mainly for its rich and content filled endgame. However, it is this endgame that keeps me from playing the game. I have played WoW for quite some time, but every time a char would nearly hit endgame, I would roll a new one. Now this was both during vanilla and BC and even though Cath is offering some cool features and a lot of my friends play it, I still can’t motivate me to play it because of the endgame.
Why I dislike the endgame? Because it just feels like a giant waste of time. My main problem is probably because raiding is for BETTER gear. I really do not understand why people find it fun to do the same raid over and over to get the best gear and then, when everybody has the EXACT SAME best gear, will try to get the next ever better gear that came with the update.
For me, the endgame would be so much more interesting if the raid simply dropped vanity items. Remember in Vanilla that some players used to have those legendary weapons, like the sword with the electric spark all over it? I mean such items. Items that are special for their prestige value and look awesome but are not actually necessary to play the game. This would actually make all the old raids from previous expansions useable and worth visiting again, and could even make exploring worthwhile again if Bliz would add hidden caves with awesome loot in it all over the game world.
But where are the stats? Well stats come mainly from crafting and can be applied to the special gear gained from raids, like upgrade schematics. It would make crafting necessary and make the player economy flourish. The crafting should need a lot of valuable materials and hard to get schematics that can all be found within the raids and within the world in very exclusive places. This will make raiding the same raid multiple times for the materials worthwhile.
The reason why I would like this so much more is because I do not give a damn about stats. Especially when everyone can get them easily and there is constantly one armor set that is used by most people because it gives the best stats. I honestly do not see the fulfillment in raiding over and over again for the best gear, just so you can raid more…
Also, my system could offer harder raids as there is no unfair advantage of having the gear or not. This way the annoying mainstream players who want the best gear after 3 hours of playing won’t complain the game is too hard.
A short example that actually came from the misleading development videos of WAR:
You kill are very hard boss in the game, and you get his ugly head as loot and apply that on your armor.
To me, and flame me if you disagree sincerely, this system would hardly make the game less interesting for most of the playerbase. The content is still there, however now there is just a little more depth to crafting and you are not raiding the same content for gearscore but for the achievement in itself.

Ah that seems to be commonsense these days right? When you like something, it is impossible to like something that is the complete opposite. Like when I enjoy the colour red, I must absolutely hate green....right?
Rift was hyped and advertised to do something different, namely rifts which were to be dynamic and random, making it less linear. So it was unclear how the game would be for the OP. Themeparks are not necessarily the same, the level of linearity can differ within the sub-genre. What if the OP likes both Themeparks and Sandbox games, yet he doesn't like to play the exact same game over and over of either genre? You can not blame the OP for searching for something different here, as Rifts were advertised as offering a twist, thus making this game not the regular themepark on first sight. He explained he tried and wasn't thrilled about it, so what WHAT'S IT TO YOU?
The OP explains itself very carefully, you just choose to read in it whatever you want to easily dispose an opinion that is obviously not in line with yours.

totally agree here. On these forums people seem to confuse discussion with debate. It is like people here have some agenda or something. We are just discussing games here and opinions differ..... |

Rockgod you are completely off the ball here. I think you should reread vesavius posts a bit more carefully coz your responses to them are way off imo. You come off as someone who is annoyed by the fact that someone else has an opposing opinion and even though he has carefully explained why, you try to attack him and say his views are wrong without any valid argument to back it up.
For example you say he shouldn't complain about rift being a themepark and specifically a linear themepark. But how linear a game is differs a lot even within the themepark sub-genre. Therefore it was not known to him how linear this game was going to be, especially when there was so much emphasis on the rifts. They seemed random and dynamic, and therefore opposite to linear. I can definitely see how someone might have expected a game with more of twist due to the advertising of the rifts. You cant really blame him for having the wrong expectations in this regard.
Vevasius has explained his position very well so why dont you just agree to disagree here. How exactly do you think you are right and vesavius is wrong. Your arguments are most of the time not really applicable on the OP at all. There is no need to make a war here. People have opposing opinions all the time.
Off-topic even more than the rest of my post: Fun>Innovation? I think I agree with this, however what is fun is 100% subjective. So that means something innovative can be more fun to some people then something that is not innovative and is fun to others, right? I just don't really understand this statement I guess. You apply something that is 100% subjective, 'fun', to a factual statement that combines this subjectivity with something more objective, 'innovation'. Seems rather pointless, as innovation could just as well equal fun in this regard, as it could be that someone is so bored with the same thing, that he could not have fun unless at least something fresh comes along.

I am quite sure that many people here are such devoted fans that they will the deny the utter disaster that the prequels are. To them I suggest the Plinkett reviews, which completely destroy both episode I and II in 90 minutes or more. Please be educated by these reviews. You can find them on redlettermedia.com. |

Besides that the combat animations in some scene made the combat seem dull, I have to admit that I LOVE the visuals. Hope to see some detailed beta impressions soon, so I can make my mind up on this one. Had little interest in this title so far, but... ...damn...look at the prety colors!!! :D |

What a rediculous, flawed statement. Really this one is used way to often. Like you can tell nothing from gaemplay videos or dev interviews. All point out that it will be entirely different from GW1 on many grounds. The "not out yet, so you do not know yet" argument is wrongly overused. |

Originally posted by maskedweasel Thnx for this. It would make alt crafting less of a problem. However since it is likely that most players will have numerous alts considering the very high replay value of ToR's stories, I still see a problem in crafting without player attention. If recources can be gathered while offline on 3 alts, that seems like an easy way to be self sufficient to me. See my post above. Btw, at first I was worried that a player couldn;t gather themselves, but this seems not to be the case. However player gathering should be more effective so that it is valuable for the player to do so and players who liek to focus on crafting and trade can distinguish themselves from those on auto craft. |

Originally posted by Foomerang It is not about the alts themselves it is about the fact that it can be done without actually doing anything. You don't have to pay attention to it and it can actually be accomplished while you are OFFLINE. Here lies the problem, being self sufficient in other MMO's still requires time...this system suggests it would take a lot less time to be self sufficient. Actually it seems that most of the time consuming work can be done for you when you PvP or even when you are not logged in. This makes crafting useless from a trade perspective, or at least a whole lot less necessary. 5 alts with offline crafting could make it so that crafting is mostly usefull to be self sufficient and the value of crafted items would be useless compared to drops. We need more indepth info on the subject to see if this 'problem' would actually be there at all. However, Zeppelin never stated that it would be, he is only posting critical doubts to the info we know so far. |

Hmm, I really like the gathering aspect when it comes to crafting, actually I loved to mine in WoW. While this system does seem fun as it gets rid of the boring aspects of crafting, it also cuts of some of the good things for me. |
