If there are still keys left, I would like to try the BETA aswell.

Do not really want a key, but its nice for those who do want one. Maybe you should consider getting another network? Coz I do not see you play a MMO with that connection.

Looks more like a FPS.

It's defined as:

# Genre: First person not so massively multi player online procedural adventure game.

What makes it' sandbox for you?

I think I could better ask you the same question.

The fact that it has FP view and has shooter elements in it has nothing to with whether or not it is sandbox. Sandbox, for me, is (complete) freedom to mess around in a interactive world. You can simply look at the name "sandbox" and then imagine what it means: You are in a gigantic sandbox and you do whatever want in it, is totally up to you. There is no main story line or main attractions like in "themepark" games. You just mess around and see what happens. Being creative is really important to enjoy a sandbox game imho. You can compare it with the GTA games, I played allmost every GTA game (I hated san andreas) and I never completed any of the storylines. I like the games because it has an interactive world were I can do stuff in, and make my own story.

Something like Second Life makes a sandbox to me. I can build a hat, a car or a whole game there. I can earn a living dancing, building scripts, making clothes, or selling my body, I can set up a conference room for my company, or friends, I can do anything.

In Love i can shoot at things and set up structures with doors that open and close, so I can shoot at them. Is that a sandbox for you?

I think you have a whole different view and that is ok.

Like I said before, sandbox for me is freedom and do what you want. However, this does not mean that a sandbox game does not have a focus. It may have a focus or direction and within that you are free to do as you please and be creative. For me it isn't just the THINGS you can do, its also HOW you do them. The fact that I can be creative and create whatever I want wherever I want makes this game a sandbox game to me. Plus you seem to forget that the server AI also makes random cities and therefore create, together with user created content, a dynamic world that you infact can interact with (in the sense that these changes actually mean something other than appearance) and that also makes this game sandbox for me.

The things you can do in SecondLife do not define that it is sandbox, the way they are implanted do. SecondLife is a Sim and Sims are actually always sandbox. I personally do not want all those things that are in SecondLife, since they are EXACTLY the same as in real life and thus boring. Love in comparison has very little features, however, that does not have to make it less interesting to play. One big feature gives it a general focus that shapes the world toward that focus. Sure there are things that could be added and there are things added since the beta, but the creator does not want to list them to avoid spoilers. Another sandbox element for me: exploration not only of the world, but also of the possibilities within that world.

SecondLife has its boundries too, it lets you do what ever you want in its "real-life" setting. But can you be an Alien? Can you put a rocketlauncher on rollerskates or could you talk with animals? In those conferences can you choose to hit everyone with a baseball bat or flame them up with a flametrower. Can you build a spaceship and explore space? Can you create a forest in the centre of a city? Now these things do not make any sense but im quite sure you cant perform them. You can do what ever you want in a realistic setting, but not beyond that setting.

Final example: Google for "World of Sand" You will find a small flash/java game that enables you to put certain materials together, nothing more. But its still very fun to play, since you can try out combining stuff and see what happens. I can have easily an hour of fun with World of Sand on my Nintendo DS everytime I pick it up. This is an example of a very simple sandbox.

There is a fact a MMO that has a changing world. This due both the players who can change the world directly by building stuff and due to the server AI that randomly builds cities and attack player cities (and vice versa).

it is called Love. and it actually has gone into beta today! I made a thread about it: www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/264859/Amazing-sandbox-MMO-.html

I can't believe people really think this game doesnt look amazing. It's about stye not graphics. This is basicly why WoW still looks very appealing even though the graphics are outdated. The art-like style of this game is lovely imho.

Whats so great about it?

Other than that it is the only  true sandbox out there and its produced by a single person that did a better job on creating  original and interesting gameplay (running on a true dynamic engine that produces a world that is dynamic and changing constantly)  than developers with botomless budgets did? Nothing much....

I just found out about this game minutes ago and im blown away. I didn't see it in the list of MMORPG.com and this is a shame. I dunno how many people know about this, but i'm going to post it anyway!

About the game:

It's called Love and its a sandbox MMO created by 1 person (yes for real).

You are misinformed now, dear OP. Now it's up to 500 players per server. ^^

It costs 3 Euros per month to play and is completely player operated for the most part.

The gameplay so far consists of players entering the world, joining a settlement (or placing one if one isn't created yet), gathering tokens, building a base and working with other players to take down the AI and defend their settlement.

LOVE is not about winning. It's about the neverending cycle of winning and losing. It truly is something you take with a grain of salt because it is a hell of a lot different than anything you'll ever see.

So what makes LOVE different?

- easy to learn, hard to master FPS style gameplay

- parkour style freerunning

- PROCEDURALLY GENERATED WORLD!

- completely terramorphable world

- auto-assigned names for plenty of immersion

- the most awesome art style ever. you have NEVER seen low-poly graphics look so good

- never-ending persistent world

I didnt have much hope for sandbox MMOs untill now, but if 1 person can create this, the possibilities are endless.

This is would be amazing! A world were it would actually be cool to find a book with lore info instead of boring and a waste of time as the useless dropped books in wow.

Actually I always thought, before playing a MMO game, that you paid every month so you would actually get extra content on regular basis. Someone told me a about WoW years ago and when I thought it was weird that he paid for it every month, he replied that there were new dungeons and items almost every month. Which I thought was a fair deal. But when you look at it now, the sub you pay is actually nothing more than a license to play the game after buying the box. Sure there is a bit new content now and then, but the profits they make out of the subs are disproportional to the effort they put in the game. Now any company wants to make as much profit possible ofcourse, but it is a bit weird that we as consumers actually accept this.

Its the same thing with upcoming market of DLC content. Some of this content is actually on the retail disc of games, only to be "unlocked" with a code that u get when you pay an extra €10 over the €60 you already paid. Its like magic how the developers manage to do this eventhough a lot of people are aware of it.

I would hate it, since the movie was everything but creative and original. They called it James Cameron's Re-Invention of film. Please, the script was just pieces of others films put together in a story line that we have seen a 10000000 times..... The only thing that was amazing was the CGI, nothing more.

Really people call it creative, I cant stop laughing. This is just as creative as the fantasy genre in the past 20 years: 0. Really, Cameron just took animals from our planet and gave them a alienlike/deepsea look. I've seen dogs, rhinos and the worst of all were the horses. Yep, there actually were horses on the alien planet, but oooooooooh they had 3 legs! How creative! And they glow in the dark, that soooo cool. Not to mention that the Navi are an exact copy of the native indians with horses, body painting and even freaking bow and arrow. This is simply impossible. Got a piece of IMDB that puts it wonderfully.

"Interesting how the indigenous bi-pedal humanoids evolved nearly identical human features, including tear ducts, facial expressions, and mirror-imaged emotions. Odd their independently developed culture seems eerily like an idealized image of Native American Indians, as fantasized by an illiterate modern neophyte. For the 'suspension of belief' principle, let's accept the absurd notion such a race could develop and move on to the eclectic technology employed by the evil invaders. Consider for a moment the microbiology and neuroscience required to 'grow' a DNA hybrid and connect same to a telepathic machine with no apparent range limitations. Contrast this phenomenal science with a military still employing Vietnam era M60 machine guns, tear gas, and bombs. Hmm….."

Now don't get me wrong, my rant is only focussed toward the lack of creativity and poor script. I still enjoyed the film for what it was: A mindless actionfilled blockbuster with no story that is meantt for entertainment. And it was great at it! But I just don't think it diserves the credit it gets. This isn't nearly the best movie every made, not even the best of 2009. Its filled with plagiarism (Dances with wolves in space) and should get the "best CGI" award at best.

I'd rather have an MMO with a real alien planet that was NOTHING like ours. That would be amazing to explore, since it would actually be new and things you never imagined. Sadly the creativity that is needed for such a MMO is not to be found in the businessplans of current developers.

General Discussion « Aion

People who call Aion a grind just define grinding different (different is wrong in this case).

I call grinding killing mobs for EXP. to level up.

Quests, what ever the goal is, are not to be called grinding IMHO.

(This all In the case of 'grinding' being defined as something negative)

Many people who say Aion is an endless grind see the quests as grinds because they have to kill or gather x mobs/drops.
I would like to welcome these people to their, apparently, first MMO!!! Also, if they did not like this way of playing, I really advise these people to stop their MMO journey right now and never play any MMO ever again. Because the goals of most quests in pretty much all MMO's are in fact to kill x mobs and gather x items, with the occasional find / explore this person / place. This hasn't changed since the very first MMO.

Can i use a digital CC?

I do not have a creditcard neither do i know any1 who has a creditcard. Do i need a CC to activate my 30 free days?

Reasons for me being worried is that it seems you either need a CC card or Time card to activate your free 30 days and headstart ends in aprox 8 hours....

Another problem, ncsoft timecards.....they dont seem to be available in any of my local shops and so far i could only find them on American E-stores, and you have to pay for them by CC >.>.

Does this simply mean that Europeans without a CC can not play the game, yet? Kinda funny since most Europeans do not have a CC.

Headstart ends in aprox 19 hours from now....and after that, the game is released.....in NA.

However the European release is 3 days from now, does that mean that when headstart ends we simply have to wait for 2 more days or does our headstart time last longer?

I had the same problem and got it fixed very easily.

You miss a file that can be downloaded here:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YCPPES89

This is 2_enu.pak file that u need to put in the L1ON folder.

It was originally  posted here: http://www.aionsource.com/forum/technical-support/57376-korean-not-english-language.html

goodluck :)

Ok so here's the deal: My aion client is seriously out of his mind!

First try:
Installed Aion, updated it, appeared to be the NA version. Tried logging in, but since my account is European this didn't work. So I just removed it but didnt remove the NCsoft launcher ofcourse.

Second try:
Then during installation I found out on some forum that you could actually play with a european account on the NA client if you just set the launcher to European and then started the client. So as I was already pissed at my self for being a retard, something weird happened during the update proces of my new client. Suddenly, out of nowhere, while running the launcher, the launcher uninstalled itself. Seriously, the program's folder was gone aswell.

So I reinstalled the launcher by running the install.exe and chooe for the option of installing and it installed the launcher. The launcher updated itself and then I set it to European. Then I updated the Aion client and....again it was NA version. But since this shouldn't be a problem I just let it be and update.

The result: I launched Aion, finally!!!!, and...... my Aion client is completely in Korean....(i guess its Korean because when i clicked some random button it refered me to a korean website)

Tried messing with the language options in the launcher and exit and run the launcher again but it keeps being Korean! It even sais its North American in the freakin launcher....

Anybody knows how to fix this? It was funny for a few minutes but now id rather just be able to run the client in english...
