I need a free MMORPG with RP in it to play with my GF whom I recently hooked up with. It should probably not be too hard to get into. Thanks in advance.

i read an article that said if you tell your gf she can spend more time with you if she plays she will probably play. they are easy to trick if you tell them to play a cleric (most guys are beefy classes like warriors). the girls really want attention so if you just tell them you'll let them heal you they go for that. Even this girl gamer I know completely stopped playing a warrior to play a cleric just because he was a warroir lol. she likes him so much she is a cleric now and married to him online, but he just uses her to heal him. he's even married irl! lol! girls are easy to get to play games

I'd call your post a tad short-sighted, but then that's just me.

To the OP: What I did was I completely agreed with my girlfriend that MMOs where a stupid waste of time and extremely childish. As the weeks passed she would ask me about what I was doing and why my character was glowing green amongst other things. I just told her that its just this stupid game, you wouldn't find it very interesting. As time passed her questions became more and more frequent.

A couple of weeks later I went to pick up some wine from the local liquor store, and when I came back after 30 minutes I found her sitting at my PC playing a level 4 character. She has now maxed out her character and probably plays more than I do.

To be honest, I'm not very passionate about crafting myself. It has always been more of a timesink for me, rather than a goal.

Having valuable resources in zones where a powerful guild can stake them out, does not sound very promising.

I know it's a huge game and well known outside the US but inside it's really just now starting to build up momentum and you would be surprised at the number of even mmorpg gamers who haven't heard of it

I am a huge Warhammer IP fan and let's just say as it stands now I won't be playing the WAR game without a monstrous change in direction including everything from more PvP to changes in rules - a Chaos Chicken just isn't my cup of tea - so major disappointment right there for me

AoC I am now leaning towards buying and playing to at least try it - really don't know enough about it yet but worth a shot -

This game though , I saw a post about it on the FOH forums and checked it out - holy cow how did this fly under the radar until now - and that's the reaction I see from lots of forums from WoW to general guild forums -

Few of my friends who are in the same disappointment stage of WAR and shifting over to trying AoC idea had never heard of it either - after seeing some videos and reading about the game they are instantly looking forward to it more than any other one

Just curious as to if anyone else has seen this same thing , never heard of Aion , shown a few videos and checked out the details of the game and suddenly thoughts of other games get pushed back -

Really looking forward to this one now myself

I doubt it. Its just an other Asian MMO. I'm no fan of the cliche over-decorative art style and characters that look like pin-up models, an neither are many other Westeners.

That's the point I was trying to make.  You don't a 12 year old and a 40 year old talking as equals anywhere else in life.  It is a very very cool thing.

I don't see why not. I think many adults underestimate the intelligence of children. There is nothing like the uncompromised opinion of a 12-year-old to make you reconsider things you used to take for granted.

Well, I don't mind talking to anyone as long as they're not an ass. Needless to say, MMOs are full of asses(ha, ha), both young and old.

The nice thing about younger kids is that even if they start of as a complete scumbag(that may sound harsh, but in some cases 'scumbag' is putting things lightly) you have much more potential to actually influence them and change their online behavior for the better. I really enjoy this. There is no better feeling than knowing you've influenced someone in a positive manner.

I remember when we had a guild meet in the summer of 2005, a couple of the younger guys were pretty much epitomes of the stereotypical geek. Low self-esteem, poor social skills and tendencies for obnoxious behavior all in one greasy-haired and acne ridden package. We were a really close knit guild back then and we used to meet up frequently in real life as well, and I got to know a couple of these younger guys quite well. It was amazing to see how much they had changed in a year when the 2006 guild meet started. I still remember the feeling, ti was almost like seeing your kids graduate from high school, not that i have any.

Anyway, back to the topic. I would say that in general, if the atmosphere is right and the older players lead by example, the age gap is an excellent thing. We had people from their pre-teens to their late fifties playing in the guild which was great. From seeing the massive change in the younger players that happened in one year, I would say that what teenagers really need for positive growth are good role models, social acceptance and treatment as equals.

No offense to the OP, but it is impossible to make a coherent choice at this time, unless you are in both closed betas.

Completely untrue, and actually a pretty small minded point of view. "Dudes" and "chicks" often like the same stuff. People like youself who most likely do not have, and probably haven't ever had, a girlfriend think this way because they do not understand the reality that girls like the same crap as guys. My girlfriend and I play DDO together, and she is actually more into it than I am. I know many MANY girls who are the same way, and they are normal attractive ladies.

In fact I know a girl who is a model who LOVES EQ and has loved it since release. So, cut the crap, and just accept that because YOU don't know any girls who play personally doesn't mean they don't exist.

i have a gf...and she thinks games suck...everythime she sees me playing a gam she complains :)...get anoying sometime.

why do people think im trying to insult gals...geez..this is anoying

I have a girlfriend too, and I think I know how you feel. If you think about it, maybe the reason why she hates video games is because you are neglecting her due of your gaming habit. Women are like that, they don't like to be priority number two.

I found a good gimmick around this(Bastard alert!). What I did is I had one of my friends call me up repeatedly when we were spending time together with my girl. At first I simply hung up without answering, acting like I'm getting angry at the caller. Then I told my girlfriend that I needed to pick up, it could be work. Once I answered I told my friend off and angrily made him promise not to call me about a stupid video game raid when he knows I'm out with my girlfriend! Hook, line and sinker! It worked perfectly.  At first I was a bit anxious, I'm a very bad actor and liar, but I guess one truth does apply to people, most people rather see what they want to see than what is actually before them.

Now don't get me wrong here. I'm extremely fortunate to be involved with the wonderful person that is my girlfriend, so yes I've reprioritized my life, and while it does not revolve around her I definitely put in an effort to be there for her and make time just for us. I don't think you need to spend time wondering about whether gaming will always be a dude thing, I think you need some dating advise.

There will always be a large gender gap. It's not like guys are eventually going to like shopping. It's just not in the genes. It's not that the stores in the mall don't know how to cater to guys, or don't carry the things guys want. It's just the fact that guys like to go buy something they already know they want or need, and leave. Can you seriously imagine calling up your male friends just to go try on clothes at the Mall? Ok, a few of you guys can, but I'm telling you, you are definitely in the minority and you're going to stay there. It's the same for girl gamers. Yes, there will be some, but for the most part the girls will prefer shopping to fragging someone online.

Nothing wrong with the guys that like to shop, or the girls that like to game, but they're probably going to remain in the minority, no matter what developers or merchants do to attract them.

Quite astute. I agree with you in manner of speaking, but in my opinion indifference to gaming is not something which is hard-coded into the genetic makeup of women, like object orientated shopping with men. Simply put, I think it is more of a social acceptance issue currently, and the gender gap will close in a relatively short period of time. Give it twenty years and you'll see the gap has all but disappeared.

I don't think Darkfall will be a recruitment vessel.

Like someone pointed out before, it is most likely Aventurine is just using their past experience in producing War Game simulators to create a MMO.

I would assume they are indirectly funded by the EU or then by the military of a European country. This could be one of the main reasons for the delays as well. I mean if the main funders tell you to 'drop Darkfall indefinitely and work on this battlefield simulator', you do not have much choice.

The question that we have to answer is do either of these company’s websites Razorwax or Aventurine

look anything like the sort of websites we would expect from a successful and professional company who receives funding from the EU or the military of any EU member or has any sort of experience or success at producing war game simulators.

Or any of the other speculations about Aventurines possible involvement with government military contracts.

The only “evidence” that any of these speculations are based on as far as I’m aware is Aventurines name appearing on a list of thousands of attendee’s for a convention or tradeshow one time.

Some pictures of the Aventurine company logo on a racing car in Greece at some time years ago was discovered, can we presume that aventurine is also partly financed by contracts for software suitable for the racing car applications?

I personally think it is quite an extraordinary leap of faith and wishful thinking to believe that they are so busy working on contracts for EU nation army’s or war simulators that they don’t have enough time to finish Darkfall, especially considering they have publicly stated that they are working on Darkfall full time and never mentioned any other projects.

Most small defense industry companies do not even have websites.

I hear people on WOW for example all the time saying put this macro on and then you can put this dot on while still attacking or just to make combat easier so your character does things on it's own rather than you having to pay attension. I just really despise people who use macros because it's taking the skill needed from the player and giving them a unfair advantage.

How is the advantage unfair when you could as well use the same macro? Besides, most of the macros only make playing your character less tedious(less buttons to use), and do not give the player any particular advantage.

Its the beta feedback you are hearing from other players.

Most likely not, as NDAs are aggressively enforced by MMORPG.com staff.

If the feedback is "wow this game sucks" then they're not breaking an NDA.

In this case, most probably(Or at least I hope so.), they are not in the beta either.

A note to the OP: Don't make bold proclamations in the name of 'we' or 'us' when in fact opinions stand very divided regarding this matter.

I would love a well balanced and working MMOFPS, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Some people are getting a little overboard and bashing on any game that doesn't personally cater to their specific desires, even if it is a decent well made game.  Also those who confuse getting bored with playing a game they once enjoyed and treating it as hatred.

Sorry to remind you, but we, the MMORPG.com frequentors, are the loud and obnoxious vocal minority of the gaming world. Some are more upfront than others, others try to hide their true message behind elaborate posts and a compilation of moderate statements.  I'm personally writing this to appear mysterious and all knowing, but I feel I've accomplished yet an other EPIC FAIL!

That's the point, a game would have to be designed in such a way that many people wouldn't find it fun at all, including a lot of you. And for those of you that do like it, after you put a ton of work into your character and have everything, then die and lose him, lets see how you feel about permadeath then. All I have to say is I told you so, and don't come crying to me.

While I'm totally against permadeath, I'm completely for more death penalties.

Ex: Break armor, drop items, gold, etc. Lose experiece, delevel. PvP Full Looting.

But permadeath? LOL! That's all I can even say to that.

I've played permadeath versions of varous games, and liked it. Did you ever try HC in Diablo 2? That was very well implemented in my opinion. Its a niche genre, but who is to stop a dev from creating a permadeath server? I think it would be more popular than most people think.

Agreed. I still remember the jitters I used to get when an obviously 'PK-orientated' player would join a Diablo 2 HC game. There was nothing better than to take down one of these creeps. Also, when you hit 99 with your HC character, there was a true sense of accomplishment.

Dying in an MMO without a severe penalty can either feel welcome, or totally wrong and game-breaking, depending on the person and their state of mind. I'm one of the people who feels more gratified when whatever I'm doing is actually challenging and there's a certain amount of risk involved. Like I said, some people prefer the exact opposite, being unique is part of being human after all.

OP: I would say, WAR and AoC. RvR is not PvP, AoC doesn't look like a PvP based game to me, but rather a 'normal' PvE title with some intertwined PvP elements.

Why are a lot of people now posting about wanting permadeath in MMO's? Do you people realize how stupid that would be!? In World of Warcraft, people die ALL the time. In a permadeath game, it would have to be designed in a way that it is really hard to die, unlike World of Warcraft, or it wouldn't work at all. Does anybody realize how lame this would be? What a boring game! Blizzard even made an april fool's about a permadeath in the new race "the wisp". That's because that's all permadeath is, a BIG JOKE!

{ Mod Edit }

OP, what was your point?
