Read what I said CAREFULLY. I said Halo3 is NOT innovation but still a good game.

You do NOT need innovation to make good games.

On the other hand, Halo 3 does contain some pretty innovative features, which bring added value to an already strong FPS title.

Innovation is needed to turn out the most mundane of products, if they are to be successful. In terms of MMOs, it might be just that small change in the combat system which makes your game that much more enjoyable and a big seller. You never know...

Repetitive combat??????

Can you HONESTLY tell me an MMO that doesn't have REPETITIVE COMBAT???

Let's see:

Take ANY MMO - I walk up to a mob, press the left button to auto-attack, I watch the 2 or so animations with the hit points flashing on the screen.  I press any number of 0-9 buttons to initiate a special attack move.  Wait for cooldown.. rinse..and repeat.. until the mob is dead.  On to the next mob.. and so and so..

This is what I'm talking about!  Trollers complain about NORMAL gameplay!!!

Hell, I can load up GTA4 and press the same right button to raise my gun and fire the same trigger to see the weapon fire.  Is that repetitive too?  YES!!!!

I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but AoC takes repetitive button smashing to the next level.

LOL!  Do you see the irony in your post?? "Once all the technical issues were solved..."

You admit the game wasn't perfect upon release and yet you were diligent enough to wait on the fixes.  Did you also go into the boards and badger the game as you are doing with AoC before the fixes or did you just keep your mouth shut and wait on the fixes?

Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with the combat system.  It isn't for everyone but it IS for me.  I can't stand the AA of all the other MMOs.. it's what made me leave each and every game after only a few weeks of play.

I'm referring to the game breaking technical issues that took Blizzard around a week to fix. Players also received free playtime for the downtime.

In terms of AoC, there are simply too many things that are broken, the game doesn't feel fluid and immersive but rather glitchy and unresponsive.

1.  You are full of crap.  My hunter was broken from day one.  The Assassin was over powered and had to be gimped because the Hunter could NEVER beat him.  Let's not start with the Paladin which was alos WAY overpowered at the upper levels.
2.  Please tell me ONE game that I don' t have to press the same button, or go about finishing a quest by some common means?  Please?
3.  Why come back when you clearly stated that the game isn't for you?  I don't waste time talking in the EQ2 boards because I didn't like the game.  I canceled and left.  Period.
4.  Your opinions are the same as the other 1,000s of posts here.  Why add that 1,001th post complaining about the game.  Funcom isn't going to redesign the game for you.  It was designed the way it was years ago.

-M

Let me pose this question to you; How long have you been playing? Do you have a level 80?

I have been playing since the beginning of this year in beta, yes the game has improved by leaps and bounds, but it is simply not there yet. Give it a month and your opinion might change drastically.

Totally unrelated to our argument, might I suggest that before replying angrily, you could maybe weigh in what the other person has written and try to come up with a more thought-out response. This would make your posts substabtially more credible.

Yeah which one? I second that~!

Let's compare WoW and AoC at release.

The release of WoW was riddled with technical issues and bugs, class balance was much poorer than it is today and there wasn't that much end-game content. However, all in all once the technical issues were solved, it was damn fun to level up your character and play the game.

The release of AoC was technically superb, no major issues except standalone technical problems on specific machines. However, all in all, when taking in consideration the enviromental bugs, the combat system, ui and overall design coupled with the missing features at release, the game feels more like a fully functional open beta, a husk of a game, if you like. After the first 20 levels your options for progression are still very limited and content quickly runs out. For me the game feels hollow, not immersive and the fun factor certainly isn't there.

Again this is a matter of opinion and you might disagree completely.

2. Game Mechanics ARE repetitive in EVERY GAME!!  This is a stupid comment.  Do you not hit the same button on a console controller everytime?  Do you not type on the same keys everytime?  Do you not need to rinse and repeat in every RPG?

3. Overall enjoyment factor is subjective.  And since this is the case for you - you should NEVER come back to this game.  The design of the game has been laid out.  Take it or leave it.

4.  Good, I'm glad you think AoC has potential to be a great game.  Go purchase the MMO that makes YOU happy and comment about it in THEIR forums.  Not here.

Right, right, a truly open mind we have.

1. Late game class balance was not this jinxed in WoW at release, for example. You'll realise just how useful your necro is once you hit 80.

2. Game mechanics are not THIS repetitive in most games. Again, this is a matter of opinion.

3. Never come back? This truly shows what kind of attitude you portray towards people with differing opinions. I'm sure you are a valuable part of the AoC community.

4. I am a paying subscriber to AoC and also a long-time member of MMORPG.com so I have every right to make my opinion heard on the AoC forums here. Just because you disagree does not give you the right to be dismissive and over-bearing.

And this is why I think my opinion needs to be out here as well, as I am an AoC 'veteran'. I think most intelligent people are able to browse through the posts and reach their own decision about the quality of the game. And frankly, if someone takes a forum post here word for word and doesn't do any analysis of their own, they deserve their faith, whether it be subscribing or not trying the game at all.

To an MMO veteran I would suggest trying the game out if money isn't an issue.

I'm willing to come back in around six months to check out how the game plays then. Funcom still has a bucketload of work on their hands to making this game a quality title.

Fine.  Then make it your rule to not purchase ANY MMO at release because there's a 99% chance it'll be buggy and not have a lot of intended content.

Come back in 6 months.. and wait 6 months after WAR releases as well..  just leave the forums alone with people who want to read useful posts instead of useless ones..

You misunderstood me. I do not mind bugs and glitches at release. The fact of the matter is, that late-game class balance is still broken, the game mechanics are horribly repetative and the overall enjoyment factor is just not there for me. Like I said, this is a matter of opinion. I loved the game msyelf at first, but it got old very, very fast and the game breaking flaws just grew on me until I realised I was simply not having fun playing the game.

That having been said, I still think AoC has huge potential to becoming a great game, and I truly hope Funcom takes fast and decisive steps to get the game back on track. I have an open subscription at the moment, but the way things look now, I will definitely not be paying for a second month.

Oh WoW is based on Tolkien?  Really?  Then why are the orcs in WoW green?  Why do they live their lives just like Orks in Warhammer do?  Why do they look like Warhammer orcs?  Etc etc.

Face it World of Warcraft is based on Warcraft Orcs&Humans which is based on Warhammer.

There is actually a lot of speculation regarding if the first Warcraft game was first slated to be a Warhammer title, but in the end the negotiations for obtaining the IP didn't work out. I don't think anybody knows whether this is true except the guys at Blizzard/Games Workshop. The similarities between the two franchises in terms of artistic style are quite obvious.

If you look at Blizzard's earlier title, 'The Lost Vikings' you will find that the art style is also very similar to that of the Warhammer world.

I would assume that a sizeable investment like this is hinting at a new title, and not just polishing up LotRO. Then again, that is just me.

    Deadly boss Mods.

    Ktm or Omen.

If u are a healer than u need 1-2 more imperative addon. and no u cannot raid without them, if u say u can, u are totatlly clueless about the game u played. There's no endgame raider, that can call himself good in doing his jod, that doesn't use a minimal package of addons.

Not true. People have downed Illidan and bosses in Sunwell without any addons.

    Subject: Please Add "Mortal Online"

Just a request to add Mortal Online.  Here is the website:

    -----------------------------------------------------

with any luck we'll see the game listed soon here.

    Dear sir

Can I kindly ask you to raise the bar for when and how game developers can make it to be included at mmorpg.com?

When it comes to games like Darkfall and Mortal Onlines they are conceptually great for a lot of hardcore / sandbox games fans. However they do tend to pollute the industry due to the fact they are game concepts disguised as real games under development. This create inflammation of the boards, insults towards real game developers and create a blurry picture of the games that are truly being developed!

I don't think this is in the interest of mmorpg.com. Eventually real game developers will shy these boards and potentially hurt your advertisement sales. Also keeping the boards clean will provide for a nice place where people can follow real games.

I think games that look and feel dodgy or have been under development for 7+ years without having the backing of a real company that previously produced anything, should be removed from the boards. If Darkfall or Mortal Online wants to join the board they should prove they are for real.

I live in Copenhagen, Denmark and have friends all over the place. In Austin, Texas (of all places) I have friends who are into 3d games and who have developed their own engine just as a hobby. There are literally powerful freeware engines out there which can be used to make mockups. Some photoshopping and videoediting and skills you can make a sparkling new website and a fake game and drag people around by the nose.
It has become easier and easier to do so, with computer skills becoming abundant and freeware engines that float around everywhere on the web.

So the question is, how will you deal with this? How will you ensure that these boards will keep to a certain standard? And not let fake developers like Darkfall use these boards as a platform to gain attention for their pet projects and attempts to find an investor with something that isn't even a quarter of a game yet?

    yours sincerely,

    Draccan

A valid point. I would like to see a staff response to this.
