I know they want to do a full and in depth review. still. it takes them too long, isn't it?

Well, MMORPG.com has staff writers posting about poor customer service from Funcom's side. Yet they have huge AoC banners on their front page. I wonder why the review isn't out yet? Kaching!

I would have more respect for the OP if he had just said "I hate WoW because it sucks". No, instead he comes up with super lame excuses like "WoW doesn't have the amount of content I think it should" and "Blizzard makes too much money".

Vivendi only? No. Blizzard has received more than its fair share of the profits. I mean, the Activision/Blizzard merger would not have been possible without a lot of serious dough.

I do agree with the original poster though, more content should have been released for the casual player.

MMO shouldnt be charging for expansions, If games like Lineage 2, CoX, and others can give away expansions every 3to 4 months then the beast Blizzard has made can afford to do that as well.

but they wont, they follow Everquests method of content distribution, The monthly fee should cover expansions but certain companies wont do that.

Hell i dont mind paying for Expansions, problem is blizzard hasnt really released any!!! LOL

well except Tbc in four years

Eve has released What 5-6 Xpacs in 5 years.

Its not quantity, but quality that matters. The last free update, that included a new zone and two new dungeons, features the best PvE raiding content in the world. I would like to see EVE top that. Wait, it can't since EVE is a point-and-click 'PvP' game.

All the crap that blizzard released was suppost to be in the Xpac on release.....

Dude that "new zone" is small as hell and the instance is like 30 minutes long. give me a break.

dude WoW can't touch eve in complexity and quality. More subs doesnt equal a better game.

Eve may be point and click but the combat is sure as hell more tactical and complex than Wow's.

Wow is basically a MMO with FPS controls were the ADD kids spin avatars around like tops and exploit Line of sight thats not combat.

Well that is your opinion. Having cleared the place, in my opinion Sunwell Plateau is still the best end-game raiding content in any game I have played. Mind you, I am currently playing EQ 2 and have played EVE for over a year and these two games have nothing like SWP.

SWP is hard, extremely well tuned and unforgiving. The sense of accomplishment in defeating the harder encounters there is not comparable to anything in any other MMO I've played.

Yet, I hated the BT farming prior to SWP and TBC raiding in general. SWP is truly the crown jewel of the TBC raid instances.

We all know that Blizzard today is not the Blizzard of old.  Hell, even Bill Roper let the accolades go to his ego and thought he could ream everyone with Hellgate and they would just eat it up because it came from him.

The group of people who put out the classic Blizzard games is gone.  The group that designed WoW is gone.  Hopefully Carbine won't suffer from the same ego problems that doomed Flagship and NCSoft has helped ensure that they don't have the cashflow problems that killed Castaway.

But if you are still paying Blizzard expecting something different from WoW, you are in denial.

Well, well. I guess hell has just frozen over. Blizzard is doing something different. Then again, the vocal moaners on these baords would hardly be mollified if WoW introduced life-like graphics and the exact game mechanics they are looking for, simply because it is WoW and comes from Blizzard.

With WotLK, Blizzard is doing exactly what it did with WoW, and ignoring the cashcow that was and is TBC. They are expanding on the Warcraft lore and taking elements from current cutting-edge and even to-be-released titles and going further with these ideas with the added Blizzard polish.

Having typed this, I am totally burnt out on WoW and have been for quite some time. It looks like Blizzard will sit on its throne for quite some time still, what they are doing with WotLK looks like an other sure-fire path to success.

Dude the 10 million people that play WoW will buy the Xpac for sure.

But afterward blizzard will release no content until the next Xpac milking its playerbase.

Hell the Xpac is only giving us one new class, a pvp zone and a LotRO lore book rip off.

I'm sorry but thats not enough. the sheep will flock to WotLK but i wont.

Did you view the linked article? Basically it seems like WotLK is what TBC should have been, a true expansion with significant changes to gameplay mechanics, a new class and controllable vehicles with distinct abilities. I know I will resubscribe, sadly, as I'll just end up burning precious real-life hours and in the end, accomplishing very little.

I think Halo 1 was, is and will forever be the god of FPS games. The following 2 sequels didn't do the series justice. How ever, if there was a MMO for halo on PC. Hell I'd go for it. Same as Star Wars. Just because it's "Halo."

Hah the first Halo was horrible on the PC, decent on the Xbox. Halo 3 is clearly the best game in the series.

Still gamews like CoD 4 are better, yet not as hyped.

EVERY single MMO has these immature people in their community you just see it more in WoW do to so many people playing it. Use some common sense people it gets so old hearing its WoW's immature communities fault for everything.

Utter...fail.  The WoW community is one of the worst I've ever experienced.  Last night I logged in (first time in 3 weeks) to find someone in IF yelling (/yell) "will give you secks!" within 5 seconds of being logged in.  I promptly rolled me eyes, logged out, and played something else.  Trade channel in the faction cities is utterly useless.  People begging you for gold, blindly inviting you to guilds (if you aren't in one), being asses in regional channels when people ask for help "Where's mob X?"  "Look it up on thott you n00b", pugs rolling need on crap they can't even use, node stealing, etc

The list is almost endless.  In general the game is indeed populated of selfish children.  There is some truth in the OP no matter how many times it's denied...the reality is there.

These is a very vocal extreme minority you are writing about. Learning to use the ignore feature will solve most of your woes.

First off i have to say that Eve is a very good game. Deep and rich.

And also a ground breaking game with nothing like it currently on the market.

However...... the mechanics behind fleet combat is aimed at ganking and is incredibly boring.

A fleet warps in to enter combat with another fleet. The Fleet commander calls a primary target and everyone presses f1 to f8 to activate their hi mods and if the primary has not aligned he dies, this is straight forward ganking.

Further to this there is almost zero stratergy invovled once the combat starts, note i am talking fleet battles here. I consider this to be similar to 25 man raids in Wow and the likes, where a mage just spams a fireball over and over for example.

Do you find this type of gaming interesting?

No, point and click is my main turn off for EVE. Waiting for Jumpgate evolved currently.

What I do not get though, is this game was in development for something like 4 years and was still released unfinished.

Not to sound like a fan boy, but WOW changed the face of the MMO industry forever. They released a game with a lot of content and took what was already successful with other MMOs and improoved upon them. The main reason you release an MMOO is because you want people to pay a subscription fee and then bags of gold will fall from the sky and you can be weathy beyond your dreams. So why screw something like that up?

I think this is why Warhammer is taking as much time as possible to get things right because they know who they are competing against. You can not release a MMO today without competing against WOW and Mythic is well aware of this. Apparently Funcom was not which only goes to speak of the ideocy of Gaute Godager when he said this in an interview "If you've been to McDonalds for four or five years, and had your burger and your coke, sometimes it's great to just have a great steak and a glass of good wine. I think that's what we're trying to do. It's more expensive, it's not for everyone and perhaps it's not as easily accessible as WOW is. But it could be more meaty. [laughs]"

So AOC is the steak we have been waiting for?

WoW was in no way a polished game when it launched. However, it was very playable and enjoyable, unlike AoC.

I can't help but smile at the players leaving the game now, who so arduously defended their 'love-child' when the game was released instead of heeding the word of beta testers about the quality of the game.

Of course the game is losing players, its a bad game!

I  100% agree.  If there are playable Jedi, then count  me out !!

*waves goodbye*

J/K...though I do think you will be sorely disappointed. Old Republic and no playable Jedi....? I highly doubt it.

Yea I understand the timeline., its just I want a SWG without Jedi :)  But to those who want a Jedi MMO, hope this does it for you.  Playing Jedi and seeing a ton run around just isnt for me, if thats what they plan to do, who knows?  I'll keep a watch out, but after the SOE whipping, I'm very cautious.

Old Republic timeline means there would have been a lot of Jedi.

Of course Wow is the best rated MMORPG ever.

Just look at the reviews and prices this game had.

And the people: whell they vote with their MONEY: owing 60% of all the MMORPG market shows  ----> it is THAT good to PAY for a game.

All top 10 Xfire games played are F R E E. Only Wow is FIRST and you have to pay to play it.

Only on this mmorpg.com site this isn't the case, because here you'll find 95% of the worldwide WOW haters community and this being BACKED UP by the bloggers of mmorpg.com

How many good articles did you find already on WOTLK on this site???

The whole internet is full of the newest WOTLK news, except for MMORPG.COM

A laugh really, because all the posters here are waiting for the next WOW killer for 2 years now and the only thing they can come up with are complete D U D S.

From Vanguard to LOTRO Tabula Rasa to Conan.

The developpers at Blizzard must have a real laugh in viewing these pathetic trials challenging the best MMORP ever made.

... You know I pity those posters here who hate a game because it is THAT good and popular. They waste their times on trying out and playing games that are ....

unpolished, badly animated, bugged, unmotivated, boring to play for the MAJORITY of players.

Just look at the XFire stats HOW much these games are being played: ZERO - NADA - not worth even mentioning for the gaming public.

But Oh Boy a good and polished GIANT  game that put MMORPG finally on the MAP has to burn yeaah .

How pathetic !!!!!

yeah it's pathetic to see how naive some people are to believe and trust reviews. All they do is hype a game and get paid for doing so and the lobotomised simply drop the cash.

If they give a monkey a gun and review it  as a sharp shooter people will believe it because the figures say so...So WOTLK will not fail.

Yeah, WoW is only popular due to the reviews and not becauxse it is a good game. You are absolutely right. Wait, no I guess you are the monkey with a gun marketed as a sharpshooter.

WoW was a success due to marketing and word of mouth, not reviews. And people will not stop playing because it is good game.

Howdy folks,

I've been looking around at other MMO's to play as of late, but nothign really suits what I am looking for. It's been a year and a half since I left World of Warcraft, and, to this day, I still hold a love - hate relationship with it.

I hated the need to raid to get somewhere and hold a chance. I got sick of the monotomous PvP and lack of diversity amongst it, as well as the lack of cooperation. The grind was possibly the worst of all.

However, I loved the art style, the events that got organised within my guild (we had little games, ie. two 70s escorting a level 1 around parts of the world, if they survived they got a prize.), not all of the dungeons were absolute crap either, some were rich in lore and held my interest.

I'm looking at Warhammer Online as a possibility, however WoW is already established and has a deep community. I've come and gone back to the game around 2 -3 times now, whether it be a friends call, boredom, or a desire to play something different. When I last left I deleted all characters on my account to remove any possible temptation. But I hear that leveling from 1 - 60 has been increased, new mounts are on the way and so on.

Is it worth coming back, even as a casual attempt?

I think it is at the moment.

However, give LotRO and DDO a shot as well if you haven't tried them.

I think Bioware is into a world of hurt now. If they think that an mmo with levels, classes, raids, wow gameplay like they said they love, will leave people happy they have bought the wrong IP.

There are tons of disgruntled SWG players who will take aim at this mmo if it is yet another non-sandbox, level based linear crap game with no real pvp.

There are tons of those in development anyways..

This is going to be a very hard IP to handle for Bioware and not the easy cash cow they might dream off.

I know I personally will be giving them a tough time if they make a polished version of POST cu/nge SWG and push it to the market.... And I doubt I am alone.

heads up BIOWARE... don't try to spoon feed us with wow gameplay !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yup. also i don't think they realized how much infighting goes on between star wars fans. no matter what design path they take 50% of fans will not care for it. go sandbox and  the level kiddies will hate it. go strict

levels and the old-school sandbox fans will balk. try to be all things to everyone and everyone complains

(see soe)  that its not enough of either. i see it being kotor with online instances for grouping.  however they have the hero engine and you never know.

I think you miss the point. There are a lot of non-hardcore Star Wars fans. This is the new generation of teens that has grown up to episodes I, II and III. This is the portion of Star Wars fans that belong to the 'mass market'. Guess which demographic EA and Bioware will cater to? The hundreds of thousands of hardcore oldschool Star Wars nerds, or the millions of kids that like the franchise and will buy a Star Wars game but are not foaming at the mouth over the details?

I guess the answer is quite obvious. Still, many people seem to miss the point.

Nothing like SWG, please.

A PvP orientated class-based system with strong PvE end-game content as well would appease me to say the least.

I hope they create something a bit better quality wise than Mass Effect with similar gameplay.

Newsflash: Bioware DO NOT CARE about your SWG woes. They are in no way under any obligation to satisfy the meaningless amount of NGE disgruntled SWG vets. If they want to create a success, they would do well to ignore the SWG vets.

Of course there will be playable Jedi. Its what all the kids will want. Then everyone can be the coolest and the best! There will be hundreds if not thousands of them running around chopping everything up with lightsabers and they will all have names like "Handy Solo", "Look Skywacker" and "Dark Vader". Everyone will be the coolest and the best.

Hopefully if it plays like WoW then it will attract all the kids and leave the more mature players for other games

Maybe if you tried playing KotOR, you'd realize that at that time, the Jedi weren't wiped out. Both sides actually had large numbers and they fought with each other all the time. So it would make sense to have Jedi and Sith classes.

NO! The only thing that makes sense is to get old pre NGE SWG back! There is no other way, are you daft?
