From what I am seeing, SOE is running true to form on this change: if something works, break it and insert a lobotomized replacement.

I have a pet in game now, a mounted pet at that, and it works. I can ride it, or have it follow me around. It does tricks on command. It even used to fight, in Pre-CU and CU and NGE, though that was removed. A good all-round functional pet. When Beast Master hits, this ends. My good old pet gets turned into a lousy (very slow) vehicle that happens to be shaped with an animal. A lousy vehicle that will probably still slow down when something aggros me, to give the mob a better shot at killing me. But only a vehicle, and not a pet anymore.
Are you being serious?

Beast Master pets can be used for fighting, including PvP.
Which part of "mount" and "in game now" did you not understand? I have a pre-CU level 10 BE-built Bol mount, trained in every command available at the time: basic combat, guard, grouping, following (self and others), and tricks. It works fine. But when this WoWish Beast Master brain-fart goes live, it wont be functionally a pet anymore, just a no-level animal-shaped vehicle good for nothing else.
They are looking to change that that at the moment so it should be fine when it hits live so dont worry
Considering SWG patches in the past, this is not very reassuring. However, a buddy of mine is having a great time testing this as well, I might just reactivate my account and give it a shot.

I'm probably going to get butchered for this, but MMOFPS! That's what I honestly want, a good and solid MMOFPS. I'm eagerly awaiting all the flames for this, but hey, it is very unlikely that it will be an MMOFPS, so please just keep this thread as a wish list.

I truly think "sticky targeting", meaning that your target is slected until an other one is picked and that you don't have to actually aim with your spells or melee attacks, is dead. This is why I find WoW PvP unappealing.

I'm truly looking forwards to playing this game, its an exciting and "different" scifi concept. Please, just please deliver a quality product Destination games, and don't let NCSoft work their "magic" too much.

I'd prefer an original IP like Mass Effect. Seriously, Star Wars has lost its appeal as a gaming platform to me after all the recently released crap. I guess I'd dig a Baldur's gate MMO as well.

I like LOTRO, it isn't perfect but its a solid MMO. More importantly its new and exciting! Whee!

For those interested, I recently did a short experiment on MMORPG.com that in a way relates to this thread.

You can see the early results posted on my blog here.

To expand on it slightly:- Over the following 7 days, I received only 57 hits with no active posting (IE relying purely on existing forum posts).

I think I have only posted another 7 or 8 times since then, and the running total since the beginning of the experiment stands at at 462 hits.

It may not sound like much, but I found the results quite interesting myself.

Interesting indeed, and this happens when a person who posts here just adds a signature banner. So in a way, viral marketing does work.

Then again, you aren't posting the garbage many of these shill accounts do, so I guess people took the time to read a post of yours, thought it was reasonable and based on that decided to click on your banner. This sort of viral marketing I welcome with open arms, still I was sort of surprised to see the results.

I really hate to burst your bubble, but MMORPG.COM is not the earth mover you seem to make it out to be.   I doubt any large MMO company is going to waste their time and money paying people to post here.

They probably already have, MMORPG.com is the largest "independent" MMO portal out there, of course this site will be targeted.

Not liking what someone says, even going so far as to post such an opinion, is not nearly the same thing as trying to institute a witch hunt to find people who do something you don't like.

I'm not starting a witch hunt, I'm trying to get rid of spam. I'm referring to the people who create numerous accounts and are paid to post here. If a large portion of the posts here are created by people that get paid to post what they do, the credibility of the dialogue and opinions on these boards suffers.

That's not where my beef with the "viral marketers" is. Its the huge loads of mindless spam that they produce. If a dev from let's say Vanguard, created an account here and started posted information about improvements and removal of bugs I'd be likely to actually give his post a little thought. Its a different story when the poster is "Joggde21" with a 2 month old account and 11 posts.

"Mindless spam" is practically a synonym for "the internet". If you haven't learned how to filter out the propaganda and blathering idiocy then you're not going to have much hope surviving out there. The human condition is a very noisy thing.

If you are unable to realize that "Joggde21" with a 2 month old account and 11 posts is probably a dubious source of information, well you have a lot to learn about life in general. Trust should never be given blindly to anyone.

every game i try is as best ok it seems...i enjoy them for a little while ...then move on ..eq was the game i did play the longest time..propably 1.5 years or so.. but after that i cant seem to get stuck to a game..i usually get bored after like 1-2 months..then try to look for another mmo.

am i just getting old?..or maybe the game that is for me has not yet hit the shelves... anyone else feel like me?

 im 32 years old.......

You are not old, I'm 24 and sometimes I even get the same feeling. Then I take a look at my dad, who's 58 and still plays WoW. If you don't like something enough, you won't be into it. I'm currently playing Lotro and WoW, and I don't think either of them are great, I just play them because nothing better is around and WoW mostly because its a great way of keeping in touch with my Finnish friends(I live in Dublin, Ireland at the moment.).

If someone can be swayed by a half dozen posts saying "this is the coolest thing ever", then they deserve to be sold a false bill of goods.

And before you say i am just yip yapping i know its true, because i know an employee from Blizzard and he told me that they have been working on Starcraft Mmo for last 4 years and the concept for it was developed even before WOW and that WOW was never the first choice of Blizzard.
Show me some conclusive proof, and I won't think its a rumor.

LMAO, you all most got me with that line right there.

Did someone say something about honesty? Maybe if someone create an account soley to promote there game, but openly admitted it and was honest in answering any questions and comments about it...posters just might appreciate that more then the paper-thin disguised posts by these viral marketers....

....hmmm....nahh!

I don't think the OP has got it yet.

Thanks for appreciating.

I haven't got the will to come up with another creative viral marketing post for this thread so..

PLAY VG IT TASTE LIKE CHICKEN SO YOU'LL LIKE IT.  AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE CHICKEN THEN IT TASTES LIKE BEEF OR WHATEVER MEAT PRODUCT YOU LIKE OR VEGETABLE IF YOUR A VEGETARIAN AND NO ANIMAL PRODUCT AT ALL IF YOU'RE A VEGAN.  SO NO HONEY, EGGS, MILK,OR GELETIN.  YES GELETIN. LOOK UP ITS INGREDIENCE IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.  HORSE HOOF FTW.

I got you the first time, I just didn't think it was such a riot. =)

Viral marketing itself is a growing phenomena, or more correctly, it is finally getting the public awareness and exposure that it deserves. It has existed in various media forms for decades.
Yeah, but you're a different breed of viral marketer. You aren't one of the so-called  "shills" that create 20-100 accounts and create "false identities" over time to gain trust and respect from other posters.

Eve is a great game.  No other game has a deep comunity feel.  The skill system lets you focus on the important parts of the game without having to worry about gaining lvls.  No other game can you participate in corporate espionage.  Or you can just become a simple hualer; transporting good from star system to another.  Eve is such an open and complex world, and it's winning PvE game of the year is a great honor.  Give the free trial a shot and see for yourself.

I never implicated EVE or any other game for that matter. Its just that now, when there have been a bunch of recent MMO releases, it seems that "shill" activity has escalated and I'm not liking it.

I'd at least hope the game would be a little more complex and challenging. But yeah, so much for defiance, I'd play it as well, like the sucker that I am.

Have you noticed it as well? There are suddenly many "new"(couple of months old) accounts with just a few logged posts under them posting numerous threads about how great a certain MMO is, or how this and that MMO sucks and how they've reactivated their subscription to that and that game. In the last few months the volume of these spam posts has increased substantially. The funny thing is, many of these posts are obviously created by people who have never even played the game they are writing about, and the arguments they make are less than compelling to say the least.

Seriously, do game companies really think this marketing method works? Resorting to "infiltrating" online communities is something I can understand, but come on, at least try to be professional about it. My mind is not going to be swayed by an incoherent thread posted by some over-worked viral marketer who has a deadline of a hundred posts an hour. Chaps, at least try to get most of your spelling and grammar correct, create an avatar or do something else to try to retain some credibility. What you are doing now is ruining communities like this one and not advancing your own cause one little bit. Please stay the beep away from this site!

I'm excited to see what Blizzard come up with. What I would love to see is a MMO that's more complex and has a steeper learning curve than WoW, but is still as polished and well-balanced as WoW. We'll just have to wait and see what they're planning.

I jumped off the Vanguard trainwreck a few weeks before release. The reason was not any fault in the game itself, which of there were many, but the dishonest customer service and press from Sigil and SOE. I used to be the biggest Vanguard fanboy, until I was accepted into the beta, and I truly understand the frustration of Brad's and Sigil long-time fans as they are finally realising what a bad move the move to SOE was from Sigil.

/salute to the original poster, I applaud your integrity and straight-forwardness.

Original poster, what did you expect? LotrO is a great game, no there's nothing revolutionary in the mix, but it is an enjoyable game and very polished and stable. Then consider the IP the game is based on. I'm sure Tolkien's beloved Middle Earth drew in many MMO "virgins", after all, Lotr is the most popular and the original fantasy trilogy.

Currently LotrO is the only MMO I'm playing, I'm not in love with it, but it is the best product out there, at least for now while the "new factor" lasts. I'm hoping to move to Huxley or Age of Conan upon their release, I just hope the devs of both of those titles deliver a product that is of similar or better quality than LotrO. The only thing I really miss in LotrO is PvP, but oh well, one can't have everything he desires.

Now, I'll add in a poll to help you get some sort of idea on the main reason behind LotrO's popularity.
