They don't do that, and i doubt they ever will.
I make about 200 certs an hour soloing as sniper support, focusing on picking off healers and anti-tanks. As infantry it is all about player skill earning certs. I can't comment on vehicles though as i rarely use them.

So basically to sum up PS2 its just flipping territory and thats it.

I played for about 3 hours and I'm really disapointed I was really hoping for a great game.

* Map is much much smaller than I expected. I expected it to be a world .

* No safe zones , I didnt do much research on this game but when I think mmorpg I think cities , safe zones and auction houses.

* Nothing player built.

This is the first time I support a FTP game, I dont like FTP but Im really glad I was able to try this game out before I wasted money on it.

Between SWTOR , Tera , WOW getting Lazy , Diablo 3 sucking and now this PS2 crapfest , in my opinion video games as a whole are really starting to suck lately.

at least its free... and not pay2win ;)

its p2w

before you are able to buy all the upgrades and stuff

a guy who paid already have best weapons, armor, +25% more hp and kill you with 3 bullets :)

when you need to put full magazine into him

not mentioning alot of bugs like screen flickering, texture dissapearing, porting enemies, tanks etc

and random fps drop to 1fps

You can only pay for weapons. You can't buy any other upgrades through the cash shop.

Opinions?

- EU server lag sometimes
- People running off right after accepting your rez (with 30% hp...) and resulting in two rezzes, or me getting killed trying to heal them while they run into the firing line.
- no preview for skin patterns, results are different than they should.
- People and vehicles disappearing / appearing to late since the game trys to limit the visibly range dynamical for everyone, sometimes you can see people on the open field and they can not see you. Or the other way around resulting in free kills.

+ Love the wapon handling, there is a difference to each weapon, upgrades are noticeable.
+ Love the flight model for Galaxy
+ Dynamic night and day
+ many hotspots at once (with a healthy server population), no need to sit a lost cause out and getting spawn ganked
+ the rest

It's interesting that some people have performance issues even with high-end stuff. My GTX 580 doesn't give me any issues whatsoever with everything cranked up to max, and i haven't installed the latest beta driver. The people/vehicles disappearing was what i referred to when i mentioned clipping. Hopefully this is something they can tweak, although it doesn't really happen THAT often, it is an issue nevertheless.

One of those rare situations where virtually no one agrees with the OP. Starting to think perhaps he has an issue on his side, perhaps inadequate PC hardware or internet connection that may be aggravating the issue for him.

possibly this. i am considering it.

i am just wondering if there are any bf3/cs players here which can provide me their feedback/opinion so i can confirm whether i am just retarded/lag

atm everyone here seems to be ps1 and/or mmorpg players and i am getting a strong feeling that they either dont understand what i a saying or they understand but simply do not share the same enthusiasm for accuracy at range. assault rifles can hit man size targets at 400m no sweat IRL. in this game anything past  50m feels like a gamble.

I think i understand what you mean actually. It seems the weapons are actually designed that way. I know a lot of people complained in bf3 about rifles being almost as efficient as snipers at long range if you had a good scope.

Perhaps it's a design decision? I haven't attempted to shoot anyone from a range above 150 metres or so with an assault rifle.

Sorry OP, but you must not be aiming and controlling your fire. Also don't forget, this is not BF3/COD where the max players you have on a map are 64players. This is a large scale warfare game just like it's predecessor and WWII Online: BE. There's going to be server and client side hick ups. Especially this early in the game, different player regions will experience more severe or less of this. And yes, I do know the difference between spread and COF. Luckily myself and my entire outfit appear to not be experiencing what you are experiencing, then again, we come from years in PS1. We might just be used to it. Regardless, hope you get it dealt with.

Cheers

cod doesnt have 64 players and is very different to bf3.

fyi bf3 plays very similar to ps2. it is essentially ps2 without world persistence.

i beleive spread as i have described is the same as CoF. probably didnt read/understand what i said or you are mistaken about what CoF is or simply just a typo(hopefully)

ps1 is known notoriously for huge spread/CoF so its probably just that you are used to it

one of the main issues with this exaggerated spread in ps2 is that combat is limited to short ranges and hence we have large parts of the map wasted. everyone sticks around the control points or w/e they are called. there is no reason to spread out and shoot from far away because you cant do jack from far away.

When it comes to carbines and standard rifles i cannot comment, however i've found that sniping works perfectly fine from really far distances. Hiding in mountains, shooting into a base that is being assaulted works really well for me, and has gotten me killstreaks on more than one occasion.

- very unintuitive system with no tutorial - bad combination. even PS1 players are unable to figure out wtf is going on.

- lag

i havent really played enough to really critisize any further.

I have yet to notice the poor gunplay, and as for tutorial i didn't really need one to figure it out. Of course, the latter doesn't apply to everyone.

Are you talking about network lag or performance lag? I've noticed a little network lag, but it's rare. I get no performance lag at all, and i'm one generation behind (2600k cpu and a gtx 580)

Now that the game has been live for a couple of days, what are people's initial impressions?

As for myself, it has pretty much replaced my BF3-sessions. I drop in with 3-4 friends, squad up, and just try to help my team as much as possible, and i am really enjoying it for what it is. My initial fears of the game possibly becoming properly P2W have been eased as the only things you can buy for irl cash are the weapons, which seem to mostly be sidegrades.

With the 4000 points i got from alpha squad pack, i've bought 3 different weapons for different classes, and to be fair i didn't really like any of them more than i liked the stock ones.

As for base-capture mechanics i find them perfectly fine, the obvious problem being actually organizing yourselves properly to capture/defend since most people don't really know how to play their roles yet. I do believe that this will get better as time passes and people get more experienced though.

I've had a few issues related to people clipping in and out (playing on a full server), but that's about the only bug that have annoyed me, and i think it's something they can probably fix in the near future.

So how about you? What are your negatives/positives thus far?

I haven't seen this issue really. I play as light assault mostly, utilizing the weapon you got with alpha squad (can't remember the name), and a 1x NV-scope. I find that hitting targets up to 100 metres away isn't particularily hard at all.

That said, i haven't experimented too much with other classes/weapons.

The gamepad-issue some people have applies to some other devices as well. I use an USB Condenser microphone, and if it is active when i boot the game up, it crashes instantly. Luckily i can just turn my voip application of choice up after i boot the game and it works fine.
You can do this in any common programming language really, wrap a browser control into whatever language you wish. You can use any of them, Chromium, Mozilla, IE, Opera etc.
I hit 80 in about 8 days, i was quite addicted to it to be honest. At this point i only log in when i'm bored to play WvWvW PvP, which i play the same way i play games such as Battlefield 3 or Planetside 2. The game was still great value, and the enjoyment i had during those days was far more than any other MMO has managed to give me since Ultima Online in 1999.

For me, this is one of the most important things i look for in an MMO. I could go ahead and write a long essae on the matter, but why bother when Raph Koster has already done this for me?

http://www.raphkoster.com/2012/03/20/do-auction-houses-suck/

It is a very good read that outlines the problem in a way that perhaps more users here will understand.

Seems Blizzard is starting to fall. While i enjoy Torchlight 2, i still think Path of Exile deserves more recognition though, it's a worthy contender and in my opinion far superior to any other "Diablo-clone" out there when it comes to game mechanics and design.
I hit level 80 3 days ago, and i did it to take advantage of the Trading Post and make as much profit as possible before it stabilizes for the high-tier stuff. It has already gotten me roughly 8000 crystals and a pile of 71g, well worth it.

Well at least it wont go the dreaded f2p (thats what some people these days judge a game a failure or not).

F2P?   You sold some of your old games to buy GW2 and yet you call it " free ".

GW2 is like all the other cash shop games.  It is designed around the P2W business model.   The only difference is they are asking players to pay $60 up front.

Just so we have an understanding........

B2P:   Box cost and/or expansion cost(s)

P2P:  Subscription cost and possibly expansion costs

P2W:  Cash Shop

Last time i checked, there was no way to buy an advantage in the cash shop. Yes, there are exp-boosters for mob kills, but mobs give such bad exp that you probably level up about 10x faster just doing the dynamic events, which anyone can join at any time. Not to mention they're actually FUN!

As a sandbox-fan (UO and SWG specifically), this is the first Themepark i've actually enjoyed. My only real gripe would be that it is zoned, rather than truly open world really.

Hello there! I am looking for people to play with on a somewhat regular basis. After having played solo for the first few days i have reached level 11 and realized that i have to repeat content or go to different starting zones in order to progress in my area solo.

It's a huge bonus if  voice chat is being used, preferrably Mumble. I also have a Mumble server of my own (5 years uptime now) that could be utilized if none exists.

As for content, i'm willing to just about everything, PvP, PvE, Dungeons, Exploration, you name it!

The server is Piken's Square. I'd appreciate a response in this thread.

Thanks!

Writing a MMO in Java is ludicrous.  Sure you can write small games in the language, but Java is an interpreted language, means it is compiling itself as it runs.  Hence performance bottlenecks are common.

Just is an instant feeling for me to avoid any MMO this studio writes.

Java hasn't been an exclusively interpreted language in years. I suggest you get up to date with how the Virtual Machine works, in particular the JIT-part. By your logic anything written in the .NET environment should be avoided as well.

Some corrections:

  • Java is not an "Engine", it is a programming language.

  • This isn't the only survival MMORPG, take a look at Wurm Online.

  • Ender's Client is actually a "hack", the game itself has no plugin-system.

Considering that there are no technical limitations to putting a game as elaborate as Ultima Online in a browser, i'm sure the issue lies in greedy publishers and a casualization of the market.
