I could be playing this game all wrong but I have not yet repeated anything a dozen times. At most it has been 5 and I have gone back I was told to go there to meet someone and I simply went in and cleared to that area and left. I pick other maps and as more open I do them. I do understand there is some repetition but not to the extent you all seem to be foisted with. I do the open areas and some I do over a course of two days. I have not yet become this tired of the repetition I'm beginning to wonder if I've missed some aspect out . I am about 2.5 k prestige now.
I'm wondering how this translates into people moving about and their positions changing .The weapons they use the armour so on and so forth and when the fight their HP and so changing values how well does the 20 million block pyramid engine work with changing conditions which is what a few hundred PvP players will be doing.

For me considering I play very little each day I am loving it. This game you're right Bill you cannot play like a lot it will definitely create a feeling of too much grind but if you play it like I do about maximum 2 hours a day and usually less it works out and I only repeat the instances may be once in two weeks so considering my earlier game was repeating FFXIV ARR dungeons ad nauseam this is fine for me and often I just do the main objective and ignore the instance objectives when asked to go back to the same instance. I've done that with the Factory 501 when I was asked to get the book in fact it was close to the entrance so I just cleared my way there did it and left .

Of course each of us will play at our pace and I am not going to stand here and lecture anyone when I have played straight 40 hour Fear and Hate raids in Everquest. It would be false on my part but this game right now at the stage of my life is the perfect hobby game for me.

I do enjoy the character progression however and love the Ascension Atlas idea and am enjoying working my way towards the class I want to unlock. It gives me something to look forward to and then to work at learning and playing.

Thanks for the partial review. It is a fair review

Also even if they might open consoles finally to China and X-box and Playstation do get in, it would still be a luxury item for many .The type of games that might be allowed in might still be controlled. Cultural differences do to a large extent influence the type of game people might buy or what might be brought in as appealing.

Ah that's right WoW spent ages trying to get wotlk past the communist party sensors as it depicted undead which was somehow offensive to Chinese morality, have fun with that ESO.

Coming from Malaysia I have some understanding of Chinese culture as it is one of the major races in Malaysia although they came to Malaysia in some cases centuries ago with Hang Li Po the princess that married a Malay sultan resulting in the Baba culture of Melaka. The other Chinese were merchants that traded and lastly the tin miners employed by the British when Malaysia was a colony. The British were always clever to keep the Indian rubber tappers and the Chinese tin miners apart by simple cultural differences. Divide and conquer huh .

They have this thing Hungry Ghost month during August I think it is. Where to appease the dead spirits they burn replicas of cars and mansions and food offerings are made so that the people who they loved who passed on can have a better time in the undead world. So I suppose it may not have anything to do with communism since this is old Chinese superstition and belief. Lot of Taoist and Buddhist in that part of South East Asia celebrate this month so it is not only the Chinese. Also the Burmese ,Cambodians and Siamese practice it.

Rhoklaw I admire your attitude. I know of others who quit in disgust after they found a node they could not access until end game. I also agree that this point is not highlighted anywhere except when you read numerous sources on Reddit or watch Youtube videos or gobble every crumb of info one can find   that's me lol. I found out pink nodes is a no-no especially as I was plotting my path to Necromancer looked in my currency and found no pink resource then I did some research and found out.

This is truly a huge oversight they have got to stress and stress it hard enough that some nodes cannot be opened since the node is an end game drop. Not doing this severely upsets people enough to quit.  I do not blame them either . Who wouldn't after they have they think found a shorter path and then to be blocked like that when they were so looking forward to playing the class of their choice.

My husband wants to play and I was showing him how much each node costs on the Berserker and compare it to the Cryomancer advising him to play that instead he got a bit miffed too saying why were those nodes so expensive. I opined it was because it was an advanced class and well they need to pick premium and play longer. How else is a game suppose to keep a playerbase if they do not make some things a challenge.

I have a Founder's pack thanks to MMORPG the giveaway which I won so I advised him to get the other pack since the founder's is no longer available but he is not happy he cannot click anything. He is a clicker so there is that.

Thanks for taking your time to make that I enjoy reading people's explanations and reasoning behind their choices. It helps me make a better use of the skills in other classes too. I will check it out.
If I were a billionaire I would want to enjoy what is left of my life (54 right now) so not that many years to enjoy a healthy life. I would want it stress free. Making an MMORPG  dealing with the players is far from stress free... so I will never make one.
I would play if they had third person view not FPS and if it is on the PC.
Yes it is subscription only.

Oh how I loved this game. I loved the crafting , carpentry in particular and housing so much .Then I could have only one character selling on the account so I had to have 2 accounts and one had a house  and carpenter in Freeport and the other was in Qeynos and two guilds so I could get the guild furniture and bigger houses too. You could not trade between the factions then ,not sure if that changed.

I believe the correct attitude about cash shops is not to simply discard a game based on the existence of a cash shop but rather to study the cash shop and if it has any real influence in your game. If you are personally not affected by it I will generally ignore it. I have never been one to worry about cosmetics and as long as no great furniture is in a cash shop EQ 2 can have a cash shop and a sub and I will still play it.

What a wonderful game I loved the dungeons grouping and I healed so many times with a Fury and a Defiler in them and I enjoyed this game so very much in 2005-2007 after I had initially left after one month after it launched. When I came back they had removed the shared debt but the crafting was still very good . I immensely enjoyed making poisons too for my ranger it was I think the class that could also use poisons. I sold so much on the auction market with my carpentry and I bought rarer gems and resources to make those great furniture and in my guild I would beg them for a resource when we raided and since many knew about my crazy houses they gave it to me....loved my guild.

I have never come across as talented a bunch as those who posted on the Norrathian housing forum (I think it was called) that imagination that was so creative you simply have to see it to believe the things people did with their houses. I used to visit houses for ideas and I'd spend an obscene amount of time collecting those racial quest rewards that gave those wall mountable weapons. I had a whole wall on each of my houses dedicated to them. People would visit my house and send me a tell telling me my house rocked and if I could help craft them some stuff and I actually did some interior designing for other players and discuss ideas on the housing forums with other like minded individuals. I had lofts and dens I made with the high roofs and literally spend hours and hours rearranging furniture. What a glorious time I had.

I would love to go back but right now so little time have too many hobbies and housework so can only manage one game. I envy you guys who get to play. I wish I was you.

I don't play much either but it is almost impossible to advice anything which involves people's choices in game time. What each person decides to put into a game is personal. Which is a fair point however if a game decides to limit the progress in one area if you tend to play more is also something a game company can do. However the chance they are losing players to this restriction is also a real issue. However I think those that leave were never going to stick around for long anyway nor spend much money by going premium.

I do hope the developers do not get scared and change things and take away the limits. I do however think that  may be they need to allow people to reset the atlas once and may be for a price and you can perhaps use it once every 3 months or so. This may help those people who have made bad choices not feel they have wasted their time.

I think a lot of times people are more willing to adapt to a system if they are not cheated of their time and that is one resource that can sometimes make more difference than money. People hate wasting their time more than money.

I hope I did not sound like I was putting you down on your gameplay. I was merely lamenting the way the Necro in your video obviously lacked the skills to play well. Not that I myself could have done better merely a wistful look at how a really good player could elevate the class.

As for flavour of the month well that happens in every game but most threads I read have been on how they are presently kicking Necros out of groups or how they are underpowered. I think the three easiest classes obviously are Paladin,Cryomancer and my personal favourite the Lightbinder. The class closest to the nodes and one quickest to be unlocked are not exactly easy to play since they involve you actually practicing and perfecting your placement of abilities and your rotation for different areas like PvE single mob, area mobs, PvP ,grouping for a dungeon and so on.

It is possible the classes that are even further away are even harder to play well but I have no real personal experience to comment any more on this.

I was merely projecting my own wish to be good at the class I hope to play eventually.

The only real fight was between you and the other paladin. The other two were really weak I have seen a very good video of a well played necromancer. This game you don't see what the Necromancer is capable in the hands of a skilled player.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5yNkujsys0

That is not true Dren because they are the greater Atlas nodes that build overall stats and people can choose their own stats and the stats the game picks for you is not optimum nor the best stat path ,you just did not check the availability of each node resource which in all fairness you probably had no idea you had to do. That is lack of explanation in the game

Then there will be the Divine Atlas and another Atlas after that to further customize your character .What you are seeing is just the tip of the iceberg in fact many players from what I have been reading have been rushing to get enough prestige to get more and more resources to unlock their nodes to get to the classes they want . They have ended up in a prestige hole as a result and this results in terrible dungeon runs as the tanks cannot tank and the DPS cannot dps fast enough.

The dungeon part is worrying me as I enjoy grouping and I am playing a Lightbinder . Many players are rushing their prestige and are building poor stats and  choosing might stat items because of the higher prestige and they end up with characters that simply cannot tank the bosses or do enough damage making dungeon runs fails is what I have been reading.

This is something that needs to be fixed either making sure other parameters are met before a person can join the group (will not be popular for friends who want to group together) or indicating the requirement other than prestige for a dungeon. Takes a lot of work and I do not think the developers have the wherewithal right now what with the network and other issues to address this would not be on their priority list. The other problem is people are developing characters with only goals are to reach the classes they want to play and often the path to the class is charted depending on what resources are available and is not optimum and may pick poor stats that do not help your character overall. Since the goal is the fastest way for me to get to berserker or monk people are not circumspect about what they are picking. The reverse of that are those that do decide to choose their own path finding they went along a path to a node they have no hope of opening at the stage they are at and promptly quitting the game .

Lot of reading up and research is needed to play this game because it looks deceptively easy but the very fact that people are failing dungeons where certain pantheons can do easily is indicative 'the throw everything but the kitchen sink' attitude is getting the players nowhere.

Pity I wish while designing the system the developers had thought to explain things more so that players may make wiser choices. Or they should just allow players to pick their classes and the harder classes being clearly indicated as such and having a slower progress so that they can come up to par. This whole work your way to the class you desire seems to have created a very focused and speedy path that has made poor players emerge and giving up in frustration.

I have reduced my prestige and while watching other players in the open world I notice how much easier it is for me to solo the mobs then when I watch another advanced class which means they may not have all their abilities which makes each encounter near death for them. Surprising how many people were dying left ,right and center. I spent  a bit  of time resurrecting them. I did jump in after awhile and help most after observing for a bit. Not try to boast ,I am not a better player just that my prestige is lower but I am quite high up on my class tree completion and that is in my opinion the reason I am surviving better.

Loved AA for what it offered, but let's not deny there is P2W going on here. Real money has definite impact in what is an almost 100% forced PvP game.

EDIT: unless you live in this game, good luck not spending any money to have a shot in any type of PvP. But if you do live in this game as a Free to play, you'll be ok.

100% forced PvP eeek ! I thought you could choose not to PvP. I was mistaken then.

The anime was okay first one I mean. The concept would make a good game.
I think the investment in this area is dwindling. The costs are prohibitive to make one and the players who are willing to sub are getting less so they will create more games with lower investments and with that in mind the scale also decreases. When you try to make it grand via feature creep in a Kickstarter project people will soon get suspicious the game may never come out.

If you read this it seems you might dig a prestige hole for yourself if you do advance your order too quickly.

It is possible this game is not meant to be played everyday. It might just be a new trend in games where you play some games in between others. I think Skyforge is a game you should not play too much and work it in between some other game.
